Very much enjoyed the online seminar last week.

We got very lucky with some very well informed people who knew about
various sectors as those were the businesses they were in.

Thanks to all of you who attended, lots of great ideas, one or two in the
markets section below.

I suspect will be seeing some of you again in the autumn!

For those who missed the July seminar, the next is
on September 22

Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "September seminar interested"
if you are, well, interested!

This doesn't look like a great time to go on holiday, does it?

Airline strikes, rail strikes, air traffic control, Spanish air crew, bags stretching
out all over airports, massive queues..

Thank goodness I'm at home... oh, hang on, that holiday we booked ages ago
when there weren't any problems... heck...

We leave for Spain in a couple of days.. on Easyjet... on a day when its
Spanish crews are striking!

Gulp. We're definitely not taking bags to put in the hold, we'd never see
those again.

That leaves us with a tiny amount of space, whatever goes in a backpack.

My packing is: 3 t-shirts, 2 shorts, one small chromebook, sunglasses, and
that's about all we have time for, folks.

You guessed it, going commando, don't tell anyone.

Our son and his "lady friend" are coming, plus another relative and a friend will
be dropping in.

It's self catering so we'll stock up at Aldi on the way in the hire car.

Hire cars in Spain are now three times more expensive than they were.

We're also sussing out villas for my naked trader retreat in September
in Spain and looking at the costs.

This is all assuming the plane actually leaves and isn't cancelled.

The cats will be pissed off, but not so bad as our neighbour loves them and will
be more or less living at ours so they have company.

I'll let you know next update how it all went.

I have a suspicion I'll be glad to get back and all our possessions are
still intact and we haven't spent hours at airports.

Having a great time trying to write screenplays.

It's a lovely hobby even as it most likely will come to nothing.

I have a really lovely screenwriter guy who's helping me with a drama, and boy it needs
a lot of work!

It's about a doctor who goes bad in the 1960s.

Only when you try to write do you start to admire those that write for TV and
Film for a living, it is REALLY hard!

I've also written a silly half hour sitcom comedy ( a kind of older inbetweeners).

I have no contacts in TV comedy and no idea if it's any good or total pants.

So if anyone out there has any contacts, let me know - look it's worth a try, you never know,
the script is done!
Some lovely people, some great chats and brilliant ideas at last online events.

Though we did have one or two blokes from Yorkshire who were too tight to buy Yorkshire Gold tea instead of standard Yorkshire....

Also glad many of you at the follow up one are still doing ok considering it is difficult at the moment.

Thanks for the great feedback especially from you beginners and remember you can just start with small amounts, you don't have to go all in!

Let me know how you do.

if you fancy spending a day with me and live markets and a bit of fun too, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "September interested."
Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Boris J has decided to win over his pissed off troops by inviting them to BBQ's.

Another terrible idea to go with all his others.

BBQ's are always terrible.

The food is always half burned, half raw and food poisoning is usually on the cards.

And what's with the pasta salad?

I guess it's there while you wait hours for the "food" to be "cooked".

My worst BBQ? The one where it was dark before the food ended up being
edible.

Sadly for me I had a big plate of pasta salad.

I ate it in the dark and thought it tasted horrible and slimy.

When I went inside there were half eaten slugs on the plate.

Yes, folks, slugs had crawled onto the plate and I'd eaten them.

If I ever get an invite to "I'm a celebrity" eating slugs will be no problem.

I watch tennis like everyone once a year, been to Wimbledon a few times, a
very pleasant experience.

You forget they can be exciting though looks like our players won't get
too far this time.

Probably the women's game is more exciting - when you get the blokes
with the big serves, it can become a bit monotonous.

But why does the BBC piss about switching channels the whole time.

Just leave it all on BBC2 so we know where to go and which channel to record.

At one point as they were faffing about switching channels the Murray game
was only on I-player.

I always fancied the job of being the director of a live football game.

I could order "Just show the whole game" then head for the pub.

We've headed into summer TV which means the schedulers leave us with the
worst stuff that's been knocking about finding a low grade slots.
Love Island (**) ITV 2
All the rage with the kids and the mrs. I've gone along with it just
so I don't feel out of the gossip.

Well, as the kids say it is what it is which isn't really much but with a bit
of nimble fast forwarding it can be entertaining.

It does rely heavily on producers steering the "stories" and you do worry about
the state of mind of those that get rejected.

Still, when the teens hit the kitchen looking for a burger it's fun to be able to say
"I can't believe Gemma snogged Steve".

Man Vs Bee (**) Netflix
A vehicle for a more mature Mr Bean.

Rowan Atkinson is brilliant of course at the slapstick but this wears thin quickly with
gags signposted a mile off, and repetitive.

But, possibly a great view for families with smaller kids?

Suspect (**) Ch4
Adapted from a Swedish series it has the feeling of a not great theatre production.

And it's James Nesbitt yet again playing a messed up detective.

It's all a bit of a yawn and we made it to the end of episode one which is were we left it.

Avoidance (*) BBC1
Well, the title sums up exactly the action to take.

Borgen (**) Netflix
Enjoyed this a few years back but this time round, well a bit meh.

Lots of political stuff but it's just a bit on the dull side and once again
only lasted the first episode.

Hacks (*****) Amazon Prime
Yes, just excellent comedy from this great show which does not
disappoint as we reach series 2.

The dynamic between old comic and young writer sizzles. There's never a
dull moment with many cracking lines.

As you can tell, rather keen on this one.

While we're in Spain we'd better be careful if we go in the sea.

A Spanish council has come up with a massive fine if you wee wee in the sea.

I was wondering how you would enforce that?

A wee in the sea enforcement officer?

"Here you go, son. Here's some speedos and goggles, now get out
there and get fining."

An admission: I have done something much worse in the sea.

I'd tell you the story, but frankly, the story is a bit sh1t.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Podcast 5:

https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/nt5/

Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money, plus a £100 competition, top tens, spot the intros, nostalgia corner and loads of laughs. Plus experienced investors have tips for beginners and investment ideas - settle down and spend
some time with the Naked Trader!

I guess it's really no surprise yet again it's proved a "challenging" time.
Well, crazily up and down they go.

The first three days were all deep joy and shares actually went up!

But no, hang on, today it's gloom again.

And I bet tomorrow everything will be fine!

I can't think of any other than the lazy rollercoaster cliche.

So, cliche it is, got to get on with it, a rolling stone gathers
no moss, after all.

At this point best bet might just be to hang on to what you have left
and just watch - maybe from behind the sofa.

Perhaps doing nothing for now is the cleverest option.
On the upside there are loads of juicy bargains out there and I'm happy
to buy what looks exceptional bargains.

Nothing worse than spotting the bargains but not being brave enough to buy
on a bad day (and I don't blame you).

We're emotional things us humans and on fear days it's hard work.

My strategy continues to pick up cheap ones on the drift, short the bad ones,
and keep a lot in cash for the upturn which always come when least expected.

This means generally the ISA has lost a fair bit on paper, but the spreadbet
accounts have shot up because of the shorts.

The online seminar last week brought up a whole host of ideas and interestingly this
time an even split between long and short ideas.

Looks like I have managed to convince a few students how to short and why it can
bring in a lot of money if you can handle it the right way.

So we spent half the day discussing longs, and half shorts.

In difficult conditions I think you can still win if you short the bad and
still consider buying the good.

At the september 22 beginners/improvers seminar I'll be spending a little more time
than normal on shorting and try to persuade it is easier than it might look.

Trade of the day idea vote of the people went to Vikesh for Facilities by ADF, (ADF)

We were lucky to have a couple of very experienced TV and film professionals who both
confirmed new productions were booming especially with new channels like Paramount.

That's important for ADF which runs the trucks and equipment needed for outside filming.

Both pros also gave the thumbs up to ADF which apparently has a good reputation in the industry.

A good look at the fundamentals reveals a company in great shape.

It seemed an excellent one to buy on the dips after the big sell off in small caps.

ADF should recover back to the 80s in time which is where I think it belongs.

Vikesh has donated his prize money to charity so good on him!

Steve came up with an interesting trading idea in Airtel Africa. AAF.

This one seems to be in a trading range of 132-150 and on seminar day it was
trading right on support which made it quite an easy one.

(Buy around the mid or low 130s, stop at 129, aim for 150).

Also a possible keep hold of it it could break above 150.

Fundamentally AAF looks strong. It provides mobile telecoms in Africa.

Profit forecasts are strong. At first glance debt looks a problem as it's high
and only just within my normal parameters.

But it owns a lot of valuable assets and those way outstrip the debt.

Given the low forward PE and likely profits, looks a nice buy given the
stop suggested above.

I've picked up a few Alliance Pharma (APH).

Alliance buys, markets and distributes heathcare products and drugs.

It operates mainly in consumer healthcare brands and prescription drugs.

The last two years have seen a profit boom and at the mo this shows little sign
of stopping which makes it a potential bid target for me.

The downside is the debt, but it's well within my limit and coming down.

It also holds up well in down markets which is rather handy.

I've added some more BAE Systems.

This defence company continues to do well and it's in the spotlight as the
rumours are there is going to be increased spending on defence.

The shares certainly think so and it's one of those performing well in a down market.
On the short side at the online seminar we were alerted to Just Eat by Ivan.

This terrible business continues to sink.

The restaurants round here hate all these businesses as they take often
35% and most of their profit.

The poor drivers get a pittance - but away from all that it doesn't look good.

There are no signs of profits this year or next, debt is big.

The only thing going for it is perhaps one of the others in this area could bid for it
so probably a guaranteed stop on a spreadbet would make sense just in case.

The Gym group came up as a short as well at the seminar.

Looks like a decent short idea to me.

While the company will make a profit, the debt is at eye watering levels.

You could argue it has assets but how easy in a downturn would it be to sell those?

As we discussed online you can cancel easily - given gym models previously relied on
your punters paying yearly contracts and not turning up this doesn't look good as an investor.

It's always worth keeping your eye on a repeat range trade and I'm having another
bash with Team 17.

Looking for late 300s back to 450.

At the moment the market seems to think the shares are worth between these
two figures.

Buying a trading range makes it easy to get out, if you're in near the bottom you can
just quit fast if it falls below that with a small loss.

Which is my plan!

My biggest holding Telecom Plus continues its huge rise and heads for
2000p. Can it break through?

It continues to benefit from a fragmented energy sector and is taking on new
customers at a great rate.

It goes ex soon for its massive dividend, a cheque for over £10,000 coming my way soon!

(If you want to become a distributor or customer let me know, it now offers the best energy
rate on the market).

Totally has been totally going against market trend and rising,

We discussed this one at the seminar and wondered if there was something about to
happen given the amount of buying that has been going on. Who knows?

ienergiser is doing well, it produced a very strong statement and is up for sale at potentially
a much higher price.

Given IBPO's statement you would think the takeout price should be at a nice premium even given current markets.

It went ex dividend for a massive dividend today so a lot of the fall is due to that.

Shortwise, the Aston Martin short is now up more than £50,000 for me personally over
three spreadbet accounts.

I suspect there is a bit more to fall and I'm now eyeing up another 100p fall to around
350p which I suspect is about right.

It needs an urgent fundraising soon as it can't carry on with that much debt.

I am going to blow my trumpet even if it makes me appear a smug arse.

I did say when the shares were 1900p they were only worth under 500p.

So there, I am an arse, and nah nah.

(There again I did buy something last year that went down 50%, not so clever there
were we, smartarse?)

And the shorts in Boo Hoo, Uber, Joules, Naked Wines (profit warning). Wise (profit warning)
and Superdry among others are all winning handsomely.

I do wonder with some shares looking cheap and some of these shorts maybe quite soon the
same the market may turn in the not too distant future?

Well, who knows. As always good luck.

I do suspect in six months you'll be wailing: "Why didn't I pick up some bombed
out shares when they were so cheap?"

The answer of course is fear.

Fear and greed, greed and fear. It's a bugger, eh?

Though nothing is as bad as the earworm produced by the new Beyonce single.

I can't get that out of my head.

Hey, reckon that would make a good title for a song?

Quite a nice way to find a quality co is to use Stocko's quality screen and make sure they have a good quality score, over 80.

It's that time of the year when you can add 20k into an isa.

It is an amazing tax perk and we are very lucky to have it, I am especially grateful and remember the feeling a while back when I made the first tax free million in one!

I use Barclays, IG and Interactive Investor for mine.

Interactive Investor have a referral thing for the moment so if you want £125 of fees
taken off let me know - available for anyone who invests 10k plus.

On the referral I apparently would get £200 into my account so a win win for both of us?

If you want to go for the referral and the money off email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you details of how we can do it.

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
