Had a great evening at Kempton Park Races with a few friends.
Most actually made a profit, though it did help that a lot of favourites won.
Indeed Paul managed to get a £400 profit from an £8 stake (4x accumulator).
I'll be listening to him next time for sure.
A lot of extremely rude topics were discussed which I'm afraid I can't share with you.
Well, maybe at a retreat or hotel seminar"¦
Thank goodness the tote and bookies still take cash.
I mean what the hell is the fun of having a win and you get a bank transfer?
You want lots of lovely notes then you can also show off how much you won.
We could celebrate as the tote handed my friend Paul £400 in notes.
A bank transfer? Pah! (pah is a surprisingly high scoring scrabble word in the right place).
Kempton Park is a lovely venue and hosts the King George on Boxing Day where it gets big crowds.
But sadly, the evening racing attracted hardly anyone last week.
A shame as it's a beautiful venue (we got married there).
We had a lovely table with brilliant views of the course, a great three course meal, a TV with the racing on.
However I suspect it's being run down because the owners are rather keen to sell it off.
I imagine it would be worth a fortune as a housing complex so I fear it is not much longer for this world.
We're off to the seaside to visit some friends in Whitstable this weekend.
Looking forwards to checking out Whitstable. Never been.
If it's a nice day maybe even the Burns feet will emerge for a paddle.
Probably not the speedos.
Keeping them for the Portugal holiday in July to delight all at the villa.
"Watch out, Robbie's coming out to the pool with speedos on, evacuate.. evacuate"¦"
Son is now at week three at his new job and every day he gets more enthusiastic than ever.
He absolutely loves it and it is great to see. He's making phone calls all day and yet he still has boundless energy in the evening. He thinks the training there is fantastic and he is learning all the time.
Good on him, after the Dubai scare we are glad he is here and safe - and enjoying life.
Good news for him is apparently if you cold call, go for it the day or two after an England win as people are in better moods!
Instead of "Piss off and never call me again", you might even get "Did you see that Harry Kane goal? Sure, what would you like to sell me, I'll take it!" (Ok that's going a bit far).
It is fantastic when you're working somewhere you love. I remember the feeling when I got my first job at his age at a newspaper.
I could hardly believe I was getting paid.
A game of scrabble with the ultra competitive 86 year old lay preacher nearby.
Again, she used a very bad word.
This time "tw@t".
She looked innocent and pretended she didn't know it was a bad word.
"I don't know, it is a bit like being a twit," she said.
I am pretty certain she knows. Or does she? She is inscrutable.
Interesting a number of you got in touch re growing broccoli sprouts in jars in the kitchen and I have handed out some tips.
You agree they taste great sprinkled on anything, cost hardly anything to grow and they're so good for you!
Des says "I can see why you grow broccoli sprouts, it is quite fun and I'm enjoying them"!
Though Andy didn't realise you have to buy the pots separately from seeds. Seeds aren't included with the jug kit.
Jug kit I have link:
And some very good quality organic seeds, link here:
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.
II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.
If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.
Seems like a no brainer here is the link:
If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.
I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.
He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.
You can hear be blabbing on about how I came to be a trader and suchlike.
https://zeuscapital.co.uk/adp-podcast/ scroll down to find the one with me.
Took the credit card tracker with me to Sri Lanka. Used it twice to locate where the cards were!
Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!
Link to the ones I bought:
Put one in your passport wallet and one in your credit card wallet or purse.
Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
"Your spam folder jokes really made me laugh, very funny.
Great update thanks very true and I totally agree re the government and taxes and clobbering businesses this labour lot are totally anti businesses and I cannot wait for them to get voted out."
Thanks Tom, I'll take you through some more rather amusing spam mail next time!
So, we have some kind of war deal.
Instead of writing about it, I think I can sum up this deal easily in football terms.
Iran 3 USA 1
I reckon that sums it up without having to go into any more detail!
It's a World Cup football fest with I am sure those who hate it moaning and groaning about it.
My 94-year-old I talk to every week for Help The Aged is somewhat miffed when the football boots Coronation Street into touch.
She thinks it shouldn't be on ITV at all!
France looks the team to beat doesn't it and that's where the Burns bet has landed on.
What a player Mbappe is. A fantastic eye for goal. Shame Fulham can't afford him (!)
Harry Kane looked rather sharp last night didn't he.
Could England do it?
Of course as a country we are primed for disappointment.
Apparently the manager just told the players to go for it in the second half.
Well, that worked!
Who's noticed the creep of adverts you can't fast forward on the streamers.
Many now demand extra money to avoid them.
This is mafia like tactics and total extortion.
I refuse, and will continue to turn off the sound and head off to get some tea while they're on.
I noticed Greencore had results recently.
This company specialises in (let's face it) producing UPF sandwiches full of preservatives.
Sandwiches at nearly all supermarkets are made by Greencore.
The one you get at Tescos will be the same you get at M and S.
Except you'll pay more at M and S and think you're getting a premium product. Oh no you're not!
And pretty much all the terrible crap Starbucks flogs is made by them too.
Avoid, Avoid"¦
Temperatures are up and it's hot in the bedroom (?) but I have got a wonderful fan!
It's the first one ever I've had that is actually quiet. It even knows what temperature it is and can adapt coolness overnight.
You simply don't even know there is a fan going through lack of noise. It looks pretty good too.
Link here:
This fan today got an 86% rating with Which magazine and I totally agree though I'd make it 100%.
Summer TV has started which means nearly everything is a bit crap.
But that's fair enough, we should be out there enjoying life not sitting slumped in an armchair.
Still"¦.
WIDOW'S BAY **** Apple
Scary/comic events in an out of the way town.
Stars the great actor Matthew Rhys who gives it his all.
Should please horror fans, comedy not so much but entertaining all round and whatever he's in Rhys is always so watchable.
THE BOROUGHS ** Apple
I'm just not a fan of the monster thing and got bored quickly but reviews for this are good so maybe ignore me on this!
CLARKSON's FARM **** Amazon
It continues to be a wonderful show, not only entertaining but thought provoking too.
The amazing self farming equipment was truly eye opening.
Why doesn't the government buy up this equipment for farmers and let's get food production up and more profitable.
I haven't seen the one yet where he says he has prostate cancer but I do suspect he will be around for many years as I believe that cancer moves incredibly slowly. He'll be fine.
CAPE FEAR **** Apple
A remake of an old horror movie from 1991 and it's pretty good so far.
I think I remember watching this in 1991 at the cinema!
It's a wild ride for sure, with plenty of tense scenes delivered well.
Be interesting to see if it gets padded out for lots of episodes but so far, worth a view!
The headline in The Times:
"Men who go shirtless in France risk £150 fines".
Totally approve. I would also like to see these headlines:
"Men over 30 wearing football shirts risk fines".
"Anyone over 12 who does high fives risk fines".
(Don't try to high five me, I will definitely leave you hanging).
New Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.
The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
Can you believe if England win the world cup shares could go up just on sentiment!
New analysis finds that stock markets in countries that go on to win the World Cup gain 3.2% on average during the tournament and the months after.
That's more than double the FTSE's typical 1.4% across England's last five World Cup campaigns.
The boost tends to land in popular consumer sectors like hospitality, retail and leisure, as pubs, bars and restaurants cash in on a feel-good World Cup summer.
The standout was Argentina in 2022, whose market jumped 9% around its win. Germany's DAX rose 11% the year it won in 2014, and Italy's market climbed 16% over its 2006 winning year.
Well, the markets are mad and sentiment is a big driver.
With some kind of war agreement, markets have had a good week though oil and commodities are down today.
And of course we've had blast off for Space x.
Did you get some?
More than 100,000 UK investors bought the shares in the offering.
Some of them don't have any other shares.
I got some for me and the Mrs in the offering at the 135 dollars which I sold and took lovely profits on at over 200.
And then I went short!
The shares will just trade with volatility on sentiment and not much else.
They are obviously not worth anything like the current valuation.
But"¦ maybe there is perhaps a case for holding them for 5-10 years.
After all Elon Musk, whatever you think of his politics, is a brilliant innovator and should be admired for all he's achieved.
More on Space X and when and how to go short and all that is in the sub email as it's very risky, too risky to discuss here I think.
If you're interested in the sub mail which includes extra trades not shown here, US trades, plus the website trades delivered to your inbox a little early, mail me for details at robbiethetrader@aol.com
The good news is you only pay once and that's it forever.. no monthly fee business.
Moving back to the UK then.
Pebble Group looks interesting and provides tech to the promo industry.
The Stockopedia algoes really like with good scores and a 99/100 overall rating.
It's rare to see a set of such good scores.
Despite recent rises, if forecasts for the next two years are right, this is still undervalued.
Looks a super isa tuckaway, a patient hold here could yield some great profits.
There's also a decent dividend here, and a statement is due sometime next month.
PEG ratio is super, indeed I can see why the algoes big this one up.
PEBB is buying back its own shares in the market which should help keep the price stable.
For me, PEBB has lots of what I'd like to see in a smaller cap and I'm happy to be in.
Keller is one super share which no-one apart from me is interested in.
It keeps on powering up, and despite recent great rises, it is still only on a pe of 11.
It attracts little interest really, maybe it's because it is considered a boring industrial company.
Only last week it said it had got a $207m contract expansion in the US with its order books at record levels.
I know: it's hard to buy something which is near a high but it can often go higher.
You can always set a "get out quick" in these situations (see the book).
Optima Healthcare is interesting, but higher risk as it is on the acquisition trail which does push up debt.
I'm interested here as profits are forecast to grow nearly 40pc per year to 2028 with borrowing coming down substantially.
Taking a longer term view on this, it could be a lovely isa tuckaway for this future growth which could attract a bid itself.
The company which provides technical corporate wellbeing solutions is winning a lot of business.
If its giant acquisition of PAM Healthcare integrates well, profits could end up nicely ahead of expectations.
I've topped up in Volex, taking advantage of some weakness in the shares.
And I added some more to a recent buy Brave Bison (winner of the hotel seminar share of the day comp).
Its trading statement this week looks good and I especially like the debt repayment with the company now saying it is in substantial net cash.
The current rating could easily go higher and with patience, it could be a lovely winner.
One of the most overcooked shares on the market has to be Raspberry Pi and I am an enthusiastic shorter!
I've shorted a couple of times and then taken a profit.
Have a guess at the PE Ratio. 20? 30??
Erm, over 70 (!!!) Which is fine if you're Space X, but not RPI.
It's a massively bonkers valuation.
They hit a tenner where it's a massive short. In fact it's a massive short down to 600p.
But of course this one too is played on sentiment so care is needed.
Sentiment can take it a lot higher but in the end the figures speak and it's not worth a penny over 600p imo.
It's hard to get a short on it with most SB firms.
You can with Spx. Link here:
http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader
I pulled the plug on Gama. Two of the potential bidders pulled out so perhaps the figures don't add up.
It could be a mistake as it could still get bid for but anyway, profit is £1,130.
I bailed out of the Tep trade with results next week for a loss of £34. It's been my income share for more than 20 years (dividends of over £500,000) so I won't be happy if it gets cut a lot in favour of buybacks, we'll see.
Prn hit the target quicker than I thought for profits of £200.
With the war (hopefully) ending I suspect sentiment in defence stocks will be lower for a while.
So a touch of topslicing in the sector after a good run for me.
Topslicing for the website produces profits of £122 and £3,007 for BAE, £2,150 and
£1,932 for QQ.
And a very nice £5,980 and £1,255 on Chrt.
I still hold a lot of all of these shares but it seemed sensible at this stage for some profit banking which raises a nice lot of cash to deploy elsewhere.
Total profit banked for the website then is £15,742.
Filtronic is going well again, probably on the back of the Space X float.
A buy back of this recently is producing good profits but you need a bit of courage to hold as it is a roller coaster ride!
I think many are just trading it to the range but there is an argument too for holding it longer term.
I am probably going to trade the range for the recent buy and hold longer-term the ones I bought for 46p a while back.
It does take patience when you hold shares that don't move for ages but patience often pays off.
Journeo which hasn't moved for ages is spiking up nicely after doing nothing.
And Cordiant has been making great gains too.
Some great information received from reader Martin:
"I love the blog and your stock market exploits please keep up the great work :)
Just wanted to give you a heads up (you may already know) for your trade Ish Auto & Robotics
RBOT is the US / USD ticker
RBTX is the UK / GBP ticker
By choosing RBTX the ETF is exactly the same and you'll avoid broker FX conversion fees (0.25% to 1.5%)
I didn't know Martin. Thanks so much for this great info and so the moral of the story is but RBTX and not Rbot!
For spreadbet shorts or longs I do suggest TN. Tight spreads and light costs.

Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:
"Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.
But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.
I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
