Some fantastic share ideas last time.

There'll be a competition of course and Elizabeth and I will be discussing an aspect of trading psychology based on a song.

I travelled into London the other week to take part in a filmed podcast.

I often turn these things down but this was interesting as I could see it was aimed at 20 somethings who wanted to day trade.

I decided it might be fun to play the token old fart telling youngsters they won't really make a million out of fifty quid in a day.

The angle chosen by the (excellent) interviewer was "Trader models himself on 60s sci fi character".

I liked that angle. He got that from my book "Trade Like A Shark" where I explain how modelling yourself on the logic of Star Trek's Mr Spock is the best way to handle crazy markets.

And interestingly following that I have had some interest from 20 somethings who've realised it's possible social media has been lying to them and they can't make ten million from a quid in ten minutes.

One 24 year old told me he used to watch original Star Trek's with his granddad and he loved Mr Spock!

Looking forwards to seeing him online tomorrow.

Liverpool Street where I went to film the podcast is a bit of a mess, lots of building work.

Thank goodness for the google map pointer app where it knows where you are via the camera and directs you along the street.

After many visits into town recently while obviously being a bit vigilant it really isn't the savage place depicted by click bait sites.

We should be doing another retreat in this year in early November.

Places are limited to only ten and you need to apply for one, we chat to you and make sure it's right for you.

Interested? Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "2026 retreats interested". We'll then put you on a list to contact and allocate places on a first come first served basis.
People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.

I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.

Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Wired headphones are making a comeback.

Global sales are up 20pc this year.

Which makes me rather trendy as I dumped those bloody pain in the bum bluetooth ones ages ago,

You have to pair them, charge them, obey their instructions, and they are so easy to lose.

Celebrities everywhere have turned to wired including Harry Styles

The joy of the wired! Just stick them on, no hassle anymore.

Losing them? No sweat. They're less than a tenner so I have three pairs so if I lose one there is always another around.

They boast noise isolation, a strong bass and a tangle free metal cord. Fab.

Here's the link to the ones I use.. Enjoy for under a tenner!

Good old Ryanair boss wants pubs in airports to ban or limit drinks to those drinking early in the day.

Just when you think he is being rather sensible and quite right to stop drunk people getting on a plane you realise the main reason.

He wants to sell the drinks on his planes rather than the pubs selling them beforehand.

Clever fella.

BEEF ***** Netflix
This show just keeps getting better and better! Gave up on series one but this one is way better and if you're missing White Lotus, this really has White Lotus vibes.

It's even set at a posh fitness club full of people paying $300,000 joining fee.

Cue how horrid rich people are and how money doesn't buy you happiness and all that.

If you enjoyed The White Lotus you'll definitely like this. It's stayed right up there throughout.

The Cage ** Bbc 1

This is getting good reviews but it all felt cliched to me.

Liverpudlians getting into crime/debt/police/fights/drugs"¦. I found it depressing and I want to be entertained!

For great shows I'm happy to overlook massive plot holes but I can't buy casino employees getting away with robbing from their bosses. Just wouldn't happen.

And using a computer that looks like it comes from 1998 to do the stealing!

Amandaland **** Bbc 1

Amanda's mum, played by Joanna Lumley, is the highlight of the series' return.

While not quite up there with the brilliant Motherland it's got to be the BBC's best sitcom.

A bit too much on the kids football pitch stuff but the rest is great fun.

Her efforts at becoming an influencer are brilliantly played and Anne's decision to go "straight talking" is another highlight.

Best line from the headteacher after Amanda's speech. "Thanks for making it look easy to make money on Tik Tok, that's all the kids here think you need to do."

The General Manager of the cat sitting app "Cat In A Flat" is "¦

Phil Katz.

I bet they didn't even bother to interview him !

Meanwhile given the disastrous share price action of Shoe Zone, I wonder if its boss Terry Boot has been"¦ erm"¦ given the boot yet?

Which reminds me of the first firm of solicitors I used to buy a house.

"Wright Hassall and co".

New Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Interesting week.

Yet again it seems the best time to buy is when everyone is selling and full of fear.

Buy on fear. Sell on greed.

Indeed sell when you're telling anyone who'll listen what a great trader you are and how much you're making.

The odds seem to be in favour of the orange one coming up with some face saving deal to end the war.

That's what the markets are banking on so let's hope they are right!

Probably the markets will then revert back to more normality sooner than we think.

It is in the interest of all sides to come up with a face saving deal, and it really isn't in any of their interests to keep the hostilities going.

Even the hardliners that run Iran will need to get their economy up and running again to stop uprisings.

We all know the Iranians won, but can we all just pretend Donald did so we can all get on with our lives peacefully?

After a flurry of trades last time I've had a quiet couple of weeks letting the new trades develop which has been quite easy as most have done well.

The trade ideas I got from doing the live show have proved invaluable.

One new thing I've noticed recently is shares coming off AIM and onto the main market.

A while back, shares used to climb ahead of the promotion date.

But things have changed: these shares tend to go DOWN ahead of promotion then start to rise after the promo has happened.

I think the reason is those using AIM shares to avoid inheritance tax sell up just before the move.

There are some special tax funds that I believe also have to sell up.

Then main market fund managers buy in once the shares are promoted.

You can take advantage of this by buying after the time of promotion.

By then the sellers have now sold, and if the share is sound it should start to rise.

This seems to be the case with MAB1. Mortgage Advice Bureau

On the last radio show listener Tom brought up the Mortgage Advice Bureau which I agreed looked like a decent company that's been oversold.

But I didn't buy right away when I saw it was going for promotion on May 1. I waited for a price drop.

Which duly happened and I got a nice price on the falls. Well, hopefully nice.

There is such value. Pe under 10, a low PEG and a super dividend.

On the show, Tom said:

"It seems to be a steady company that trades between 500p ish where it is now, and 900p.. If it can achieve its forecasts and growth strategy then you'd think it would breakup beyond 900p. A recent acquisition of a data platform will help grow market share and achieve the forecast growth."
It reckons its use of AI tools will help it to grow.

Watch out for early doors wide spreads in it though.

That's because market makers open their prices with a huge spread then orders gradually come in and close the spread up.

So it is a better one to deal in after 9am or use direct market access.

ALWAYS pay attention to spreads, and never deal when they are silly, the market makers are simply picking your pocket.

Though I guess they have to pick a pocket or two to make their profits.

It has strong support whenever it hits the 500p area but any dip much below that and I'd probably have to quit.

I also bought a second share.

When a company gives out an ahead of statement, goes up and gradually falls back it's usually a good time to buy in.

That's because you almost always get a great statement again!

That's why I bought some Keystone Law Group before it reported a few days ago.

The company has already said it would beat market consensus and given the drift in the share price it seemed a good buying in point to hold for a while.

This law company does seem to be going places and it appears using AI is going to be helpful.

It has a nice net cash pile of nearly £10 million. And a massive dividend.

It goes ex dividend on June 4th for a massive 17p so if you have it watch any stop losses aren't inside that 17p area as shares should open lower by that amount on the 4th.

I topped up in a couple.

MHA reported today, and I bought some more.

We have those lovely words "Ahead of expectations".

Earnings and profits are rising nicely at this top accountancy firm.

It's also buying up other companies and expanding internationally.

It looks a super ISA hold maybe for a couple of years and relax.

Also reporting today is Personal Group, another with an ahead of statement.

And another company where prospects look bright.

If it can start to break out over the stubborn 400p area, then 450p could be the next stop.

A disappointment from Telecom Plus which got hammered even though guidance was still within a quite tight range.

The problem comes from the company heads up that it's likely to make a reduced dividend in favour of buybacks.

This wouldn't be the favoured option I bet of most shareholders including myself.

It is supposed to be a solid share held for income. I'm not moaning as over the years I have had more than £500,000 in dividends from them.

They will say more with the results next month, and I'll decide then what to do. But I believe most of us shareholders would want and expect a dividend over 5%.

I did get some as it fell to around a tenner as that really looks too low. However that is more of a short-term thing. The rest remains in a share cert from 2002 and I have no idea where it is!

I've taken final profits in the other half of the Diageo short for a profit of nearly £4,000.

Despite volatility in the main market my portfolio has had a very good couple of weeks.

MS International rose well after a tip in the Mail on Sunday.

The paper reckons it may not be too far off from selling its non defence divisions which should raise a lot of cash with a potential special dividend.

I've held this one for a number of years and sitting on some massive gains. But perhaps those gains could grow more over another couple of years.

SRT Marine also got a thumbs up in the Mail and again buyers came in. I agree there is lots of potential upside there.

Filtronic rose strongly, some kind of activity in the US where space related companies are blasting off.

Although on conventional metrics it looks overdone, once you get these crazies in the USA taking an interest, the prices can go vertical.

I think another massive spike up which could happen (it often does in these cases) would persuade me to bank part profits.

And continuing on the space theme the Seraphin Space Trust continues its thrust upwards.

(Please cease your endless childish puns with added sexual frisson - ed).

Some giant gains too for recent buys Globaldata and Craneware. And yesterday a statement from Brave Bison went down well and that is steadily rising.

Generally with some big profits on paper over the last week or so it is getting tempting to bank some of them.

After all, a profit isn't really a profit till it's actually banked is it?

I'm thinking I will probably topslice here and there soonish especially on the ones that have done exceptionally well.

There are more trades but I have to save those for my subscribers, after all they have to get something extra don't they.

If you'd like to subscribe let me know. Well, it isn't strictly a subscription, you only pay once and you get till I stop doing it, likely when I kick the bucket!

You get all the website material and trades delivered to your inbox earlier than the site is updated every other Thursday, extra trades, any US trades and high risk ideas I use for my sipp.

Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:

"Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.

But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.

I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.

if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
