Great to "meet" some of you online earlier this week.

Most were beginners and it was great to get back to basics.

I also know we covered a lot which probably set some heads spinning but hopefully
those of you attending will find the notes helpful for the future.

For example you may not want to get into level 2 now, but perhaps in the future and
I hope the notes will remind you what we went through live.

And thanks very much for the nice feedback!

If you missed it, the next beginners/improver seminar is July 20th, again that will be the last one for a bit.

For the follow up please put "follow up interested" in the subject line and for the beginners/improvers starter one put "July seminar interested".

How was your jubilee weekend?

It was amazing to see the country come together.
We went to the races and had a good time though a friend who'd never been before
won £500 by asking for the horses with "The worst odds".

Another friend went for the nicest names and won £100.

Meanwhile I was supposed to be the expert who was once a pro horse gambler and
went on form and guess what...I lost £150.

Just shows you: don't trust experts.

We invited a lot of neighbours round for a garden party managing to find the day when
it was actually sunny.

It was fun, the kids splashed around in the wave pool.

The adults gave forth about everything and we're now much more bonded as
neighbours.

I'm even thinking about taking their bins in as well as ours.

It must have been a success.

No-one drowned, no-one was sick and every drop of alcohol seemed to have disappeared including two bottles of Pimms.

The cats were pretty pissed off though as a two-year old chased them all over the place
trying to pick them up.

They are just about recovering.

Though they are still looking round from time to time to check a little kid isn't charging at them.

It IS fantastic to be able to socialise again, us humans need other humans however
annoying they can be!

Though already dreading July when we are travelling to Spain.

Will our plane be cancelled? How awful will the queues be?

Should we just stay at home?

The answers to all those questions will be resolved here sometime in July.

I had a bone graft in my mouth at the dentist to prepare for some implants.

Delighted to see masks gone and the re-appearance of magazines in the waiting room.

But the rest of the visit not so great!

It was pretty unpleasant and two days later still very sore and on antibiotics, ice packs.

Oh well, I suppose it will all be worth it once I have the teeth back.

Why oh why did I eat all those thousands of twixes?

That's it. I have given twixes up, it's been tough.
Some lovely people, some great chats and brilliant ideas at last online events.

Though we did have one or two blokes from Yorkshire who were too tight to buy Yorkshire Gold tea instead of standard Yorkshire....

Also glad many of you at the follow up one are still doing ok considering it is difficult at the moment.

Thanks for the great feedback especially from you beginners and remember you can just start with small amounts, you don't have to go all in!

Let me know how you do.

if you fancy spending a day with me and live markets and a bit of fun too, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July 20th interested."
Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

The jubilee four day weekend was perfect - a chance to forget about normal
life and just relax.

It didn't even matter if you think the monarchy stinks - it looks like lots of people
bonded over that weekend.

And even better we could get away from the tediousness of "partygate" and suchlike.

Weren't all the concerts and events fantastic and showed us brits at our
eccentric and delightful best?

I know maybe the Paddington - Queen bit was a bit schmaltzy but oh well, I thought it
was great.

And surely the Queen would know her hygiene and perhaps at least cover the marmalade
sandwich in foil.

The whole thing shows maybe one day we can all get together as a country and stop being
at each other's throats.

I loved the cars bit especially how old police cars used to look.

Shame there were no Hillman Imps though, my first car though not surprised as they
could never go very far without breaking down.

A sex expert says today when a guy talks too much during sex it is a turnoff.

Yep I guess "How did you think Abrahams did standing in for Kane in the Nations
Cup" isn't going to go down well.
State of The Union (**) BBC 2
What happened to Nick Hornby here, it feels like he's knocked out the dialogue
in half an hour between coffees.

The "couple have coffee before seeing the shrink" series was decent.

But the second series moves to the USA.

Stilted and cliched guy moans about different coffees constantly had us exiting
quite quickly.

Shame as it's a great premise.

Moaning about long coffee menus was cliched back in 2001. Come on Nick!
Big Boys (****) Ch4
What? An actually funny comedy from Ch 4 and not a show where people
take their clothes off?

Yes - lots of great witty lines in the first episode anyhow. Sad shy mummy's boy
goes to a bad uni.

Cue lots of bad parties and dating angst but told in a fresh original way.

What a nice surprise, me and the Mrs were giggling throughout despite some
over-reliance on knob jokes.

We Own This City (**) Sky Atlantic
A new version of The Wire they say.

I tried really hard. But after 25 minutes I gave up.

Maybe it's great but do I want to spend hours more of my life watching people
being horrible to each other beating each other up?

And frankly I couldn't be bothered with having to pay attention! It was hard work.

It's me, I'm too lazy to enjoy this show.

Better Call Saul (*****) Netfllix
The mid season finale was everything you could ask for with the shocking
death of a major character out of the blue.

Kim continues to be more breaking bad than Jimmy and Lalo has developed into a
superb baddie, nice to have a baddie with hair for a change.

Gus' OCD has got worse as he awaits Lalo's appearance and the gun he placed in
the super meth lab to be will no doubt come into play when things resume in July.

Two Summers (****) Netflix
As long as you don't mind subtitles this is a very entertaining psychological
drama.

A group of friends re-stage a holiday they had 30 years previously but two are probably
being blackmailed by a mystery member of the party.

Who is it and why? A definite binge watch. And always a bonus when you've never seen
the actors before.

A sex toy company in Sweden has decided not to float on the market.

One assumes sales of sex toys have been a bit limp.

Some spam mail subject lines are getting weirder.

My latest was "Milf rides 18 African cocks".

Which does beg a few questions, 17 of them to be precise.

(Or maybe 16)

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Podcast 5:

https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/nt5/

Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money, plus a £100 competition, top tens, spot the intros, nostalgia corner and loads of laughs. Plus experienced investors have tips for beginners and investment ideas - settle down and spend
some time with the Naked Trader!

I guess it's really no surprise yet again it's proved a "challenging" time.

Worries about inflation, Russia, China, logistics, oil prices..

Chuck in cost of living, now rail strikes and it's hard to find anything to get optimistic about.

Oh and terrible economic figures today.

And have you noticed people have stopped bragging about bitcon?

Except... the markets do look forward and let's put an optimistic hat on.

It is possible to see perhaps that inflation comes down, the war ends, things aren't so bad,
there could be the mother of all rallies sooner than later.
One thing I've noticed to the upside is, despite big sell offs last week and today so far it was mainly in the share giants.

I get the feeling sellers of smaller shares finished their selling a while back and there aren't
many sellers left, meaning a lot of these smaller ones aren't going down as much as they did.

And some indeed are pretty stable.

Which means should optimism return, a lot of these that are now very cheap could turn around quite quickly and there could be some big gains for the brave.

So it's not a bad time to be a beginner and a bit of buying good quality smaller shares over the summer here and there could pay off.

Main things to still avoid are retail shares and restaurant/pub groups as I think they will struggle for some time to come.

Also anything with big debt. Try and find cos with net cash and a good dividend.

One share that ticked all my boxes that I bought last week that we discussed at the online seminar was Photo Me.

I had some of these many years ago but hadn't considered this share for a long time.

The reason was something like "Photo booths are an old technology which no-one uses anymore".

But reading through the very bullish statement PHTM put out last week this is not the case.

Main reason for the bullishness is the return to travel.

Pent up demand for passport photos and documentation has seen a surge in use of booths
both here and in France.

Not so much in Asia where restrictions still exist but further growth could come from Japan when restrictions ease there.

Its laundry machines appear to be going well too.

You can stick your giant duvet in one of their machines outside a supermarket, do your shop
and pick up your clean duvet on the way out.

Given it reckons profits will be around £50m and taking into accounts its huge cash pile,
shares look well undervalued.

They could bounce a lot higher once the current malaise is done.
I got some iEnergiser IBPO live at the seminar using DMA to get the sell price.

We discussed it looks cheap though two caveats that the shares are owned mainly by one
person and it has to change brokers which means a tiny chance of a delisting.

However two days after the seminar shares started to rise after it confirmed it was in
talks to be bought out.

Tricky one, the bid might not go through but you wonder if it does, the premium potentially
could see 30 pc plus upside given the cheapness?

Head cheese Anil Aggarwal is nearly 70 (And worth nearly £2bln) and you wonder whether he might fancy a sale at this stage.

I guess it could go either way and even if there is no bid, the co is still going well so
downside should be limited.

I bought some Argentex - averaging up after they have risen from the first buy.

Results are due July 6th and shares have been doing well in the run-up despite the
market sell off which looks a good sign.

Fundamentals look good as was the last statement.

I've shorted some Currys.

The name has always confused me - why call something Currys when it doesn't sell currys?

Why not actually switch to selling curries? Could be a good new income stream.

Anyhow the main reason for the short is the huge debt.

OK, it does have some value in its fixed assets.

But overall looks like some more downside here unless there's a bid which is why perhaps if
you do go short a guaranteed stop might be a good cover.

With fund managers getting out of Starbucks as well as the founder I have shorted it.

Despite falls already I can't see any fix for it, even a treble espresso won't do it.

The stores don't make an awful lot and there is so much competition.

Throw in union problems in the states, inflation and working from home and I can't
see the upside.

And finally the coffee tastes crap !

A tip though: if you want to taste the coffee and pay less ask for the secret
"short" size.

Not on the menu but ask for a "short" and you will get a small cup with less milk.

Talking of shorts I've gone for some quite big shorts in the Dow and FTSE.

I've done this rather than sell any more shares unless they got hit by stops as I do think all my longer--termers are decent and they will recover in time.

I've been a bit lucky in that quite quickly I could put all stops into profit so now it should
be just a question of how much profit it will be.

As it stands up about £20,000 on the index shorts.

As it retreats, I bring the stops down.

Then when they go up in a rally profits will be banked.

This is working nicely and helps not worry so much about good shares falling
in the isa.

I'm also using short ETF's in the isa to make some from the downside, see the book
for details on how to use, we did cover it at the seminar.

Some shares strangely enough continue to rise, as they are considered defensive.

One example being Telecom Plus which marches on mainly upwards.

Bloomsbury also holds very well and fingers crossed at some point for a
bid from someone like Future.

So does Totally, Begbies Traynor and to a certain extent K3C.

Indeed a good plan may be to look at those holding their own or rising
on bad days.

These could end up being big winners.
The best thing in a down market is also to be pretty ruthless selling off losers.

One example is some people who were at the seminar and this is so common, holding
onto losers.

As they say a long-term investment is a short-term trade gone wrong!

My plan for recent buys is to use trailing stops but setting them fairly
tight in order to get out with minor damage should the sell-off continue.

After all, I can always buy back another time.

So various trailing stops knocked out some shares for losses and profits.

It meant I didn't sell anywhere near the top, but trailing stops got me out with smaller
losses and maybe bigger gains short-term at least.

A loss of £78 on Easyjet - not surprising given its problems, I have a flight
leaving in July, though will we get cancelled?

I sold off part Qinetic after a very good run banking a profit of £1,679 .

Watches hit a trailing stop with profit of £248... shame as did have a nice profit
much higher up at one point.

ITV also hit a tight trailer for a profit of £95.

A good run with T17 which nicely hit target for a quickish profit of £750.

As I suspected Bitcon continues to crash so a bit annoying I took profits on the
bitcon shorts too early. Never mind.

Shorts are obviously going very well with giant profits building though I wonder
how much downside is left in them.

Biggest short gainer is Aston Martin where those who came to the seminar could see
from live accounts real profits are more than £35,000.

Profits from Boo Hoo sit at nearly £10,000.

Statement due this week, could be short exit time maybe?

The shorts in Joules show about £2,000, Wise £4,500, Superdry near £8,000,
Robinhood £1,000, Uber £8,500 among others.

Longer term longs not so good and some paper profits have come down a lot.

The shorts haven't cancelled out the downturn on some of the longs so isa
balances are down though spreadbet balances up.

I find it hard at the online events to do any persuading for people to look and understand
how to short.

I guess for most psychology of it is hard, but how else to make money in a down market?

I do get it, if you're used to being a share buyer it is tough to consider shorting, it
seems unnatural perhaps.

Though looking at the last 2-3 seminars, I have had mails from people now happily
shorting away which I am pleased about.

The thing to remember about shorts is using the stops in the same way as you'd do for a long.

Where to from here?

Sadly who knows? It really could go either way.

As I said above I think there are some bargains around and it's not a bad argument
to buy on a terrible day.

One thing to definitely do is have a nice list of real quality ready to buy when things begin
to turn around.

Perhaps drip feed buys on bad days into your favourite shares, this may
well pay off.

But remember to pick good ones!

Quite a nice way to find quality is to use Stocko's quality screen and make sure they have a good quality score, over 80.

Us fear and greed driven humans think shares will never go up again in a down market.

And never go down in an up market!

If you're finding it tough, you can always just go flat for a bit and wait it out.

But as always it proves never play with money you can't afford to lose.

If you are playing with money you can't afford you know what you must do.
It's that time of the year when you can add 20k into an isa.

It is an amazing tax perk and we are very lucky to have it, I am especially grateful and remember the feeling a while back when I made the first tax free million in one!

I use Barclays, IG and Interactive Investor for mine.

Interactive Investor have a referral thing for the moment so if you want £125 of fees
taken off let me know - available for anyone who invests 10k plus.

On the referral I apparently would get £200 into my account so a win win for both of us?

If you want to go for the referral and the money off email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you details of how we can do it.

Good luck to all of you in current volatile conditions. Maybe we can be lucky, hostilities
will cease and we get back to normal.

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me
with "email interested"

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
