I very much enjoyed the hotel seminar on Friday even though I was out of it for the weekend after my brain said: "What did you just do"?
Talking for 8 hours in front of a group of people is pretty tiring.
And you never know what's coming at you!
It was a lovely group, many have been to several events, indeed one person had come to one of my first hotel ones"¦ 20 years ago!!
I never realised I'd been doing them for 20 years, it came as a bit of a shock especially when I think I am still only 25.
The first one I did was in Birmingham (not sure why?)
Unlike today I think I was the only one who had a laptop. Smart phones didn't exist!
People actually paid some attention to me instead of staring at screens. Ah, those were the days, eh?
Using old tech I blu tacked a poster of Mr Spock behind me to emphasise you can't let emotions get in the way of trading.
The poster of course kept coming down as blu tack is crap.
The second one was in Dublin.
I ended up making a loss on it because I stupidly did a free bar afterwards.
A free bar. In Dublin. I was nuts.
1,000 pints of Guinness later I realised I'd now made a huge loss and resolved never to do a seminar again.
A similar thing happened with the first retreat we did in Palma.
We made a loss with that, though only a small one,
In pricing it up I forgot about food costs, taxes on villas, cabs, the cost of taking people out to restaurants and various other costs I'd never thought about.
Someone in the bar told me I was still charging the same price for seminars as I was in 2005. Time to put the price up!
Maybe I'm good at spotting shares at the right time but a bit rubbish at being a businessman myself.
Not that it matters much, I enjoy doing all these things anyway.
We had a lot of laughs but also came up with a lot of interesting shares and ideas to be.
We even spotted Easyjet as being a value buy little knowing over the weekend it would become a bid story.
Congrats to Steve for winning the best trade of the day £100 prize.
No idea how Jeff managed to get a tenner in cash out of me. How Jeff, how? What a hustler.
Asaf wanted to bring us to Glasgow. Sorry Asaf, the Mrs refuses to travel north of the M25.
In the bar after Tom taught me a lot about the ups and downs of being a Wolves supporter and I gave as good as I got with tales of Fulham and away trips to Barnsley.
Anyhow, thank you all for coming and see some of you again at the retreat in November or the hotel seminar on December 7th.
Meanwhile if you fancy an online one the next is July 13th, mail for details!
Glad to say my son is in his first week at a new job.
He loves it! He's coming home full of enthusiasm and excitement.
He also says he is learning a hell of a lot every day, looks like he has landed at the right place.
Which is great for us as we'd rather have him here than in Dubai, we'd rather not have those nights of worry again.
Judged by how much he loves this job, I don't think Dubai is on the cards anytime soon.
Broccoli sprouts are one of the healthiest things you can eat.
Full of good stuff with up to 100 times more glucoraphanin than mature broccoli.
This compound converts into sulforaphane during digestion, delivering powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying benefits.
All the benefits are especially good for older chaps.
And you can grow them at home very cheaply.
Takes about 5 days to grow them in a jug in the kitchen for next to nothing.
Just get the seeds, some jugs and really all there is to it is soaking and rinsing and they're ready in five days.
It's quite rewarding to see them growing and you can sprinkle them on anything, sandwiches, salads, smoothies or I like them with a bit of olive oil.
Benefits stated include helping to arrest cancer growth (like prostate) Vits C and A and a whole host of other anti inflammatory benefits.
It's like eating broccoli but you get 30x the benefit. You don't even have to eat very much but it is surprisingly tasty even on its own.
I bought a jug kit which is cheap and very good quality, link:
And some very good quality organic seeds, link here:
Have fun if you give this a go and let me know how you get on!
Any tips or problems I am experienced with these now, let me know if I can help.
And you're thinking "Enough of this just tell me which shares you bought and shut up about all the other stupid stuff."
And I say "fair enough". Move along.
People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.
II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.
If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.
Seems like a no brainer here is the link:
If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.
I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.
He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.
You can hear be blabbing on about how I came to be a trader and suchlike.
https://zeuscapital.co.uk/adp-podcast/ scroll down to find the one with me.
Took the credit card tracker with me to Sri Lanka. Used it twice to locate where the cards were!
Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!
Link to the ones I bought:
Put one in your passport wallet and one in your credit card wallet or purse.
Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Doesn't matter what it is. Don't complicate, relax, de-clutter.
If you make a few quid resist the temptation to show off and buy a holiday home or some such.
Or buy artefacts. Or a silly super car.
Spend it on experiences, oh and business class flights and nice hotels!
Talking about overcomplicating"¦
The government is infuriating. It wants to complicate, regulate, add rules.
Put in nonsense sub-clauses. Make anyone running a business think about jacking it in.
It should be doing the opposite.
Everything it does stifles innovation.
There are so many examples.
The new ridiculous tax return every three months thing.
People creating the money have to spend longer and longer not creating the money and instead have to spend time puzzling out taxes.
The latest bad idea is to take a brilliantly simple savings tool, the isa which has worked so well for decades and complicate it.
Why? There is no need and it's going to put people off investing.
The sooner we're rid of this bunch of useless losers who've never had a proper job.
If I ran a political party I'd call it "Simplify".
The aim is to make life simple. Scrub all the stupid tax rules. All the silly arbitrary cliff edges like the 90k vat cut off.
Every "rule" should be simple. Let's also de-clutter parliament.
All this childish nonsense "class war" .
I've met so many businesses that are about to hit the 90k turnover and they say they're actually deliberately not growing or else they have to charge clients 20% more and those clients will go somewhere else.
With prats like Torsten Bell about to get more power things are only going to get worse.
This idiot who has never done a proper day's work in his life will probably decimate anyone's dream of doing well or building savings.
He is going to over regulate, complicate and make any growth for the UK impossible.
The spam folder overflows for some reason this week.
Lots of women fancy me apparently.
Julia, 40, very kindly offers me sex with "no small talk".
Drat.
I really wanted to know where she was going on her holidays this year.
Never mind.
Meanwhile Karla offers a "69".
That must mean no talk whatsoever?
I guess it would be extremely difficult to have a conversation.
Things might get a bit muffled.
And in any event I'd much prefer a 99. Nothing like a whippy.
Rod wants £200 in bitcoin or else he will send pix of me watching porn to everyone I know.
I told Rod that's fine as all my friends are into swinging and I'll send him all my contacts to make it easier, though I can only find one called Ocado.
Just in passing Rod, bitcoin is a mass ponzi scheme that will crash. Don't say I didn't tell you, Rod.
Meanwhile The Casino Team offers me a HUGE 400% bonus.
Whooo!
I'm going to have such a big win against a computer that I am sure is programmed to send me loads of money.
The worst offering? Sadly O'Reilly autos can only offer me a tool set.
Unfortunately I really wouldn't know what to do with it.
Sorry chaps, the no small talk sex offer from Julia is frankly more inviting.
United Healthcare offers a "free dental kit".
Well, actually that could come in handy after the 69 with Karla.
Angel offers "direct or playful".
Hmm, I'll go direct, Angel, as it'll be quicker to get it over with so I can grab some tea and toast.
"Amelia Nympho" says she has seen a picture of me and got excited.
You see? You'd be surprised how many women fancy us baldies.
Meanwhile "Sexy" writes "Your secret admirer is wet".
How many times have I nagged Sexy to take an umbrella with her when she goes out. She never listens to me.
You just can't trust the British weather.
Nothing at all this week from my Nigerian friend who wants to send me 10 million.
More news from the spam folder next week!
Two Weeks in August **** BBC 1
Silly but fun guff about old university pals off on hols together.
They come with collected baggage including kids, nannies, emotional damage, unfulfilled desires and recreational drugs.
Main thrust is Zoe who wants out of her marriage to depressed Dan and who can blame her?
She has liaisons with pretty much anyone but will that lead to happiness?
There's a touch of the supernatural too. Best TV is always watching people having a worse time than you and this provides it in bucketloads.
Dear England *** Bbc 1
It actually works better in the theatre but still this mostly hits the back of the net but needs the odd bit of VAR.
Ralph Fiennes does a splendid Gareth Southgate played as a thoughtful man who realises psychology training is required to get the best out of the players.
The main problem here are the football lookalikes. Harry Kane is nearly right but the Wayne Rooney lookalike doesn't look a like at all.
CLARKSON'S FARM **** Amazon
It still has it! Wonderful entertainment right the way through.
From errant sheep to pub problems to Rachel Reeves troubles, it's all there.
The only thing is, he is looking a bit unhealthy and let's hope he does actually stick to a good diet.
A pr email came in promoting a new movie about to hit screens entitled:
"Lesbian Space Princess".
I was just about to suggest to the Mrs that we go because the reviews look good (what do you mean liar?)
But then I had a closer look. It's a cartoon movie. Damn it.
New Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.
The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
Well, the online and hotel seminar has me brimming with ideas, trades and trades to be!
Again thanks to you all for coming, I sent you all the list of shares discussed in a nice real time price list.
As above congrats to Steve for winning £100 for trade of the day, more in a min.
We got through a ton of share ideas and I have a lovely long list.
You have to be pretty selective in the summer and be careful with stops as less liquidity can bring extra volatility.
And currently we have all sorts going on. Will the war end? How about inflation?
One of the first shares we discussed was Easyjet (suggested by Vikesh).
I'd already bought some earlier in the week and we decided there was tons of potential here and the airline sector as a whole.
We didn't forsee the bid rumour so I guess we all got a bit lucky short term.
However the bid rumour does show airline shares are almost certainly oversold now.
People are still going on their holidays ("Where are you off to on your holidays?") and the war will end sooner or later.
For now, I think I will keep Easyjet for the longer term and see how it does.
My choices at the seminar were one going up and one going down.
One going up.. Colefax.
Normally I wouldn't bother with a fabrics company (boring right?)
Except it looks like this one which makes lots of twee fabrics beloved of middle England has found a great spot in the USA.
They can't get enough of country style twee stuff over there!
Colefax put out a lovely ahead of statement and told us profits would be at least £10.5m
With a market cap of just £70m and a tiny debt probably going into cash shortly it looks too cheap even given recent rises.
If this unexpected outperformance can continue, shareholders could even be able to afford a nice pair of upmarket curtains.
The share I bought that's going down I think that'll have to be on the sub email only because it is quite high risk and so I bought if for the high risk sipp section of the sub mail. My views on Space X there too. You get the website stuff a bit earlier than published here too.
If interested in the sub, contact me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "mail sub interested".
Brave Bison won the share of the day and £100 for Steve.
Trades at under 12 pe with an excellent peg.
This marketing outfit has recently come up with an ahead of expectations statement and it looks a bit too cheap.
It's been growing nicely for the last 5 years
Downside? It's very close to where it can't break out from.
But then there is good upside if it can.
You may be noticing a theme from the seminar"¦ companies who publish "ahead of" statements.
Thing is if you buy this the next statement is likely to be very good too (like Bloomsbury).
Gives you a better chance of further rises even if shares have already risen.
RBOT is a fabulous ETF and I have again added to it.
We discussed this at the hotel and looked through the many investments it has in the space, well over 100 companies including Nvidia.
It's a way of holding higher risk companies without so much of the risk as it's spread.
The shares trade on its Net Asset value which is published most days.
These are on a very nice uptrends with bumps here and there.
A profit take and then a buy back of shares in FTC.
As I mentioned last time, a trailing stop on FTC might be a wise move after such a big rise and so it proved for me on the last position.
Half were sold on a trailing stop for a profit of £6,586 after some major volatility and I bought some back this morning.
Some crazy volatility here, have set a new trailing stop for the new buy.
They are impossible to value but an interesting way to buy a bit of space without getting involved with the US.
A warning from Megp - I like the company but you can't let that get in the way and it's the second negative so I am out totally.
A loss of £809 on the last two trades and a profit of £1,695 on a longer term position.
However, it could just be a bump in the road here and I like the laundry business so a re-entry buy might work sooner or later.
Perhaps wait for something like 90p. It seems the company probably wants to sell itself so at this low price it could attract a bid sooner or later. I'll wait it out for now.
Keys went for a profit of £766.
That top up in CMC Markets and IG last update paid off!
A fabulous update from CMC this morning has really lifted the shares with hopefully more to come.
M and S and Craneware also going well and SDI seems to be finding buyers.
And a shout out for Cordiant which has really done very well and is set to join the FTSE 250.
Defence outfit Cohort surpassed expectations with its statement last week and looks likely to see further gains and seems like a lovely longer-term hold.
Profits for the website positions are now nearly £35,000.
Space X launches soon, maybe it will be a buy for a bit.
Then open up some spreadbet accounts and get ready to go short on them.
Because when the space and AI crash comes those of us who are short are going to get huge payouts. I'll let you know when I start doing it.
TN even pays a bit every night for open shorts. AND there is a guaranteed stop so if you are short at the wrong time you won't do much damage.

Mentoring
Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:
"Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.
But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.
I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
