The absolutely must buy book of the year is out: The 2014 UK Stock Market Almanac.

I didn't do my own diary for 2014 because honestly, this one is better.

It is a beautifully produced hardback stock market diary, two pages for each stock market week.

So much useful info including results expected in the week, market behaviour and history weekly and monthly, best and worst performers, company profiles, plus strategies, social, sporting and financial events.

I already have mine on my desk and it'll stay there for 2014. I also actually will use mine a diary for my own ends and put in my own social events!

I persuaded the publishers to offer a discount to you lot so they are offering this beautiful book at a discounted £15 (it is £20 on amazon) at this link only (cut and paste into your browser)

http://books.global-investor.com/books/873331/?ginPtrCode=21654

Delivery is speedy and usually next day. Enjoy the feel of this really lovely diary - it makes a great present too for a trading friend.

I've decided I'm just not a mid market guy, I hate middle anything.

Give me top end or bottom end, just like in bed...

I was thinking that at the cinema the other day.

I like watching films either at an amazing top end cinema such as the electric in notting hill or the new fab one that's opened in Barnes.

Both offer amazing seats, excellent food and a great experience. Home made ice cream? Yes please!

But I also like a real old cineworld fleapit in hammersmith. Hardly anyone goes, you have the place to yourself, stretch out and relax, but mind the fleas. And Tuesdays? Just £7.

I really hate the mid market ones that everyone goes to. They're full, expensive and rotten. Mid market people rustle and chatter and fart, it's horrible. The places smell of a mix of farts and CK1.

Same for me with shops. I'm either in Poundland, Primark or Pringle.

You wouldn't find me in Next. It is just so MIDDLE. Middling clothing, middling service. Midding mediocrity (but a great business of course)

The Pound shops are great. I could be in there for hours, fascinating what you can buy.

Still amazes me you always hear someone asking the cashier: "how much is that?"

In the park, I'd rather mix with what you might call the rough kids/parents. They're fun and open and talkable to. Even though last night the rough lady with the massive alsation kindly advised me not to kick the football or her dog would "ave the ball and pierce it."

The middles are awful. So stuck up. "Pomegranite, Orlando, come away from those horrid rough kids now!"

You can't get a conversation going with them. They look as you like you're something nasty the cat dragged into the catflap.

I love the uppers though. So jolly and fun. And lovely and posh and comforting, and talkable to.

Hotels? Travelodge or Ritz Carlton. Hate the middles and the "boutiques".

Restaurants? You'll either find me in the local cafe with a bacon sandwich or at the top places eating lovely food.

I hate the middle ones. Those chains serving up horrible middle food at middle prices. With middle flavours.

Taxes - either go for it left wingers and tax at 70% if you think that works (but see how well France is doing with that)

Or tax us at 30%.

But then I realise myself I find I am either bottom at something or top. I never manage the middle of anything.

At school I was in the top 2 pc for English and the bottom 2% for science.

One school report I got said: "Robbie is one of the most backward pupils I have ever taught."

So if you want to find me look somewhere near the top.. or somewhere near the bottom.

On Friday we're at the top, darlings.

Going to Ascot to see the racing donchaknow, been invited by some very top people at a top box though let's face it the catering is going to be middle but we'll let that go.

I haven't been to the races for a long time. Lost interest a while back. Used to be my thing many years ago. I tried to make a living out of it before I discovered the lovely stock market.

I even owned horses but I couldn't make any real money out of the game. I'm taking £200 to bet with and expect to come back with nothing, entertainment is all I want out of it.

Don't expect me to bet each way. That is so MIDDLE. Go win only or don't bother I say.

We'll miss the last race as we'll have to motor back to get our lad back from school to Friday night fives football, oh it's going to be all go on Friday.

And then there's Saturday!! Christopher's birthday party taking six of his football team to the Fulham Vs Swansea game. Maybe the team will win for once,

Christopher wants to play musical statues before the game. We must invite one of our players, Berbatov, he'll win it easily as he spends a lot of time behaving like a statue in most of the games.

We're going to have a football table tournament and maybe pass the parcel. It'll be fun.

I can't believe he is now nine. Where the heck are the years going.

At this rate won't be long before I take up Michael Parkinson's generous offer of a free parker pen "just for inquiring". And those stairlifts are looking mighty attractive...

Thanks for the continued nice feedback on the last seminar, glad it is working out for so many of you.
If you missed the last seminar, the next seminar is on Monday December 2nd at Heathrow.

Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "December seminar interested" in the subject line. There is a very decent early bird discount on offer right now. But not for much longer.

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

**** BOOKING OPEN FOR DECEMBER 2ND*****
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Dec 2

Price is £590 plus vat. (Early bird discount is on offer however)
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling

Just cut taxes ffs ! Raise the threshold for the poorest and lower it for everyone else too. Including "the rich".

Make it 30%. Make people really go for it. The less tax, the less they will bother to try and evade it, the more jobs will be created, the better the economy will do. We'll get loads of new investment and becha the tax take will be bigger.

There's not a surprise, the ex co-op bank chief and minister takes cocaine and meths.

Let's face it, there's loads of these top alpha males hooked on alcohol or drugs or both.

Whether it's the top people in banking, journalism, politics, share tipping, big companies... they got to the top by quite often being powerful addicts - they of course are often powerful and charismatic characters so rise to the top.

Once there of course they screw everything up because they are addicts it means they are usually self-destructive too. They don't care who they lie to, deceive or trample on.

No wonder the world is a screwed up place with everyone fighting each other.

So I'm a c*** is back on on the TV.

Yes those desperate "celebs" are back.. so desperate for our attention, love and loads of cash they will do anything to be on TV.

Personally I wouldn't eat a wallaby's penis for even a million pounds.

A bit like Strictly, the whole thing can be watched in about ten minutes with a fast forward through the best bits.

Homeland keeps on improving. Surprising how little Brody is in it this time. Hurrah to the end of the teenage love saga for now.

But what is the betting Brody's daughter ends up turning Muslim pretty soon? Odds on right.

I don't rate the new baddie much, feels like he's an actor pretending to be bad.

Talking of bad....

I watched Breaking Bad alone at the "office" but now the Mrs is interested so I'm going to watch it all over again.

I don't mind, something to savour and sure there will be loads of things I'll pick up second time round. Anyway I have a bad memory. What was I just talking about?

Any chance? Of course not!!

Naked Mail

Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
Well, great news for me this week, the icing on the cake of an amazing year for me, never thought I could make so much money so quickly.

Wow. I made nearly £60,000 overnight thanks to news from Telecom Plus with my holding having now raced up to nearly £700,000. A pity three quarters of it is in share certificates and so when it comes to selling the Government will be sticking its paws in for its share in tax, though I have quite a few in the ISA too luckily.

However I have to plans to sell any till it's in the FTSE 100. More on this later.

Right now I'm not doing much. Unless you count various TV box sets I'm currently going through.

Why? Well, the markets tend to be weak between now and early December so unless anything really gets me going it's not coming in.

And also the shares I have continue to do well and the money keeps going up so no rush!

And finally one should never "try and find a trade" out of boredom. That is silly.

I'm happy to sit and wait. Indeed I made most of my big money by: doing absolutely nothing!

The people that lose and don't make much? They make endless trades, sell them way to quick and then hang onto the losers. It really is more simple than you think.

If you are trading because you are bored take up a new hobby. How about origami?

Anyway after saying all that I realise I have made 4 buys this week!

BUY ONE: I put in for some shares in new issue Infinis (INFI) and was allocated 2,288 shares at 260. Bit of a profit already as they went up to 270, not exactly a major reward but sticking with it to see how it goes. Probably one just to keep hold of.

And yet more issues around. I decided to pass on Bonmarche. I can't see the point in buying what is a boring retailer.

BUY TWO: So I went for something more crazy but potentially exciting and this morning I bought some of new issue Applied Graphene Materials (AGM) getting 2,000 at 206.09.

Graphene's a new type of material expected to revolutionise medicine and manufacturing with light but strong and conductive properties.

They reckon interest in Graphene is growing but up till now it hasn't grown as it's been hampered because it's been hard to produce it efficiently and to scale.

So, it could be the next big thing. Or it all might fizzle out. One of those ones where it might be worth having a nibble but realise risks are there. So I had a nibble and if I hadn't been scoffing toast early doors I would have got a better price today.

In a year I bet the price will be either double or half. It's one of those. If it starts to tumble I shall exit fast with a small loss.

BUY THREE: Avation (AVAP) - I sold some then bought them back - the shares really took off and raced higher over a month so topsliced a few at 128.57 to take out one of the web positions for a profit of £1,128.

Then there was a shake out yesterday, the shares crashed down so I bought them back at 112.9. Today they announced a very decent trading update and they sold two planes. All that is left is to tuckaway the shares now.

BUY FOUR: Dialight (DIA) has slipped quite a way because growth wasn't as good as expected but as I said last time well below a tenner looks like a place to pick up a few. I nipped 500 at 909.3 on the basis there is strong support on level 2 at 900 and that directors have being buying hard at these levels. I've taken massive profits on these in the last few months and they've made me over £100,000. I still hold a longer-term position from the early 200s.

I suspect next year things will improve and they will head back up to the 1200 mark again..

Oh and buy 5 to be.. that will be new shares in Telecom Plus which I can buy at 1475 in the open offer... I shall be taking up my full entitlement and why wouldn't I with the shares now at 1700 !!

And I made a little short in Twitter. Looks crazily valued.

Petrofac spreadbet was automatically closed by a trailing stop at 1242 - I only realised when I got an email as I don't follow it closely. Some kind of warning and it closes out at a profit of £270. Still got a small long-term holding there where I have four timed even after the fall.

So total profits banked today is £1,398.

Elsewhere

Tons of really good news for the portfolio this week and for me personally more than £60,000 profits have rolled in thanks to the Telecom Plus amazing news. And it now means I have a massive stake in there worth nearly £700,000.

The Telecom Plus open positions on the website now total profits of £270,000. Now who said buy and hold doesn't work?

They did a stunning deal - buying its energy companies from N Power for £218m. A real forward thinking move that will not only raise profits substantially but mean they can really go for much lower energy prices really challenging the big six suppliers with lower prices

This should swell its number of customers and eventually push it into the FTSE 100. Its share prices has soared today and there is more to come.

Holders can now buy 1 new share for every 35 at 1475 - given the current price is 1700 you'd be silly not to ! I will.

Full marks to management at the company and in particular head cheese Charles Wigoder. A sensational businessman who brought the business which was making a loss to a stock market wonder. Having met him a few times I would also say he is a fantastic chap and great fun, knows how to live life well and also a top poker player!

If you'd like to go with them for energy and telephony let me know as I have been a distributor for them since 1998. If you do go with them via me not only do you get cheaper energy and telephony but you get my weekly email with
all the website stuff sent to early in your inbox and also higher risk buys made in my sipp

Mail me if interested at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "mail offer" in the subject line.

And the good news kept coming for me this week!

Long-term holding Coastal Energy has been bid for at last at around the 1140 mark, a bit lower than expected but still would give me a profit of over £7,000 if I banked it.

However will keep hold of it a bit longer just in case of a rival bidder.

Recent buy Telit couldn't break through the 150 and then did it in style, one suspects a seller has finally been cleared out, hopeful for a move up to near the 2 quid level.

Regeneris has been shooting up and managed to conquer the 300 mark, what a great trade that has been!

SQS and Porvair are two that have gained a lot of ground recently, nice work both.

Renew is really paying off now with some nice rises.

32 Red has had a brilliant time - up another good ten per cent this week and it looks like my original buy is going to be a doubler.

Kentz has been rising again. Perhaps the fact the big didn't go through is good news as in time a new bidder might have to pay an awful lot more.

Cohort has had a great couple of weeks an zoomed up over 2 quid.

Entertainment One has had a nice run higher and a statement this week shows it is on course for more.

GB continues to push up and this one has more or less become a doubler for me.

So what can I say? An amazing week! And an amazing year.

*** Two Newer Spreadfirms I Use

FOR SMALL COMPANIES:

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Dillistone so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They're also offering a mini Ipad or something - read through conditions and all that as I would guess you'd have to make a trade or two to get it.
***
TIGHEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC

If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

www.spreadco.com/nakedtrader

I've been testing out a new spreadbet firm over the last year. I just won't recommend anything unless I have really tested it over a long time and now happy to endorse it especially for any bets on indicies as the spread is only 0.8 on stuff like the FTSE.
Also they don't seem to do any messing about in stopping winning trades from being executed which has been known with a few of the firms which I totally refuse to endorse.
Execution of trades have been spot on as has account management and a robust system too. I really can't find fault with it.

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.ig.com/nakedtradercfds

Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Capital Spreads offer

Capital Spreads offers a really excellent book on spreadbetting for those who open accounts through the link below. Spreads are very tight and every trade has to have a stop loss which is excellent discipline to have especially for beginners. Execution is really good I find and they also allow shorts on shares it is hard to get shorts on like say Carpetright or facebook.

Telecom Plus Offer

Want to quit the rat race? Try and start a new source of income so one day you can tell the boss to stuff it? You could do what I did to escape my grotty office job and become an independent distributor for the Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on Wednesday afternoons.
