The absolutely must buy book of the year is out: The 2014 UK Stock Market Almanac.

I didn't do my own diary for 2014 because honestly, this one is better.

It is a beautifully produced hardback stock market diary, two pages for each stock market week.

So much useful info including results expected in the week, market behaviour and history weekly and monthly, best and worst performers, company profiles, plus strategies, social, sporting and financial events.

I already have mine on my desk and it'll stay there for 2014. I also actually will use mine a diary for my own ends and put in my own social events!

I persuaded the publishers to offer a discount to you lot so they are offering this beautiful book at a discounted £15 (it is £20 on amazon) at this link only (cut and paste into your browser)

http://books.global-investor.com/books/873331/?ginPtrCode=21654

Delivery is speedy and usually next day. Enjoy the feel of this really lovely diary - it makes a great present too for a trading friend.

OMG I hate the sounds of the postman's footsteps. It mean loads more Xmas gift junk leaflets and bookets are going to be landing.. yes here they come, giant thuds, must be some big ones.

Wearily then time to go over and stick the lot in the bin. More rainforest gone.

This year those visiting us for the day have been told no presents but to bring £30 which is then going into a pot. Whoeever wins the big Xmas quiz wins the lot and can buy themselves something nice. If I win it it's going to an animal charity so come on me!

Of course Christopher is the exception and will be allowed to open loads of parcels containing plastic crap. Hey, stop calling me Scrooge, bah humbug to the lot of you.

Even worse are the junk emails. It's taking longer and longer to delete them and some of them are so pathetically needy. Most offer some kind of "Xmas discount" but usually there is some catch,

Look, sorry not a big fan of Xmas. At least I haven't heard one Xmas track yet, though I haven't been in Starbucks or indeed out in the shops for a while so that helps.

I paid my first ever visit to the 02 arena - I think I prefer Wembley though it's pretty nice.

Easy to get to and from.

We watched some daytime tennis including Ferrer. It's a different experience from Wimbledon - much faster and it's a little like US Football with lots of razzamattazzzz - wish I hadn't used that word now as not sure how to spell it and frankly right now I'm too lazy to look it up so there!

If there's a set point a huge bit of music comes up and signs everywhere. No marching bands though.

There's a circular walkway around the venue where the usual overpriced food is on offer.

However to be fair they make a bit of an effort though a tenner for fish and chips (fish was okay chips suspiciously look like oven chips) seems a bit pricey and the stir fries were more fry than stir.

Sometimes as the parent of a football loving kid you have to sigh.

For starters I have to put up with watching our local team Fulham get beaten nearly every home game. We have season tickets but the games are so bad personally for now I wouldn't be going.

But Christopher wants to go to every game and accused me of being a bad supporter because I keep moaning about them and I told him we'd get thrashed by Liverpool.

"Go and support Liverpool then," he says.

"At least their players make some kind of effort," I say.

After all these guys get 30 grand a week and they don't seem to be trying or care much. Berbatov hardly moves. Christopher's under 9's team seem to have better defenders.

Indeed at the Liverpool game our defence even popped the ball in their own net.

The next game is against Swansea and I'm taking six of Christopher's friends for his birthday.

We have never won a game when we have ever taken anyone. Well, you never know. Maybe one of Swansea's players will get sent off, preferably two to give us a chance.

However spookily we have not won a game since the Michael Jackson statue was taken away. Since then the players have behaved.. just like statues.

Talking statues, we are going to play musical statues before the game and we have lots of other games lined up for the lads.

More tribulations for the dad of a football mad kid: For example last Sunday I had to take him for an away game which started at 1.45.

So I have to get him there at 1.15 for the warm up.

It's a good hour to get there, park and find the pitch. Actually a pretty little village in Surrey. The sat nav got fired once and for all after she dumped as in the wrong street a mile away.

She's been getting pretty bitchy recently and making it harder to get to the right place. She's being fired and removed this week and a new more exciting model is being installed.

Oooh. I wonder how we're going to get on.

Anyhow we get there and I have to spend the next hour and a half in the freezing cold wondering if the game is ever going to end.

The wives cleverly aren't present. I make some small talk with the dads but it kind of runs out after a while. I try anyhow.

The team's good and we win 10-2 and remain unbeaten. But I can tell Christopher is not happy with his game and only scored 2.

Now he wants even more football training. Not happy with Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings we found somewhere that does Monday nights.

I've had it with football and if I never saw another game I really wouldn't be bothered!

Of course there are plusses: it's great to have an active child who loves sport rather than video games and that makes it all worthwhile!

Thanks for the continued nice feedback on the last seminar, glad it is working out for so many of you.
If you missed the last seminar, the next seminar is on Monday December 2nd at Heathrow.

Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "December seminar interested" in the subject line. There is a very decent early bird discount on offer right now. But not for much longer.

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

**** BOOKING OPEN FOR DECEMBER 2ND*****
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Dec 2

Price is £590 plus vat. (Early bird discount is on offer however)
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling

I reckon Boris' plan for a six runway airport in the Thames Estuary to be a pretty good one.

As many planes can land and take off as we need, and no-one has to suffer the awful noise caused by aircraft overhead.

You could say I'm biased as we're on the flightpath into Heathrow when there is a westerley wind which is most of the time.

But it seems crazy that half of London gets woken up by ONE flight that comes in at 4.30am. Millions suffer for 200 people flying in - can't be right.

Then all the others which start at 5.

The real problem with another runway at Heathrow is how are the roads going to cope with more people coming in. The M4 coming into town from Heathrow is already a car park at busy times with only two lanes coming in.

Heathrow could be shut and tons of new homes built just outside London. Meanwhile we get the capacity we need at the new airport.

Jobs lost at Heathrow can be regained and more and the cost of it all is roughly the same as the ludicrous high-speed rail project. And all ready in 7 years.

Why doesn't someone be brave and make a decision on it?

Ouch.. you have to feel sorry for the golfer on hols in Mexico. Taking a shot he got attacked from behind by a crocodile which bit his leg.

Then when his friends tried to help it had a go at the golf buggy.

It was pretty handy they all had golf clubs so they could have a go at the croc.

When I was "playing golf" in Florida I was told one golfer put his hand in the water to retrieve a ball and a croc jumped up and bit off his arm.

Homeland picked up this week - the ending of the teen romance sub plot ended, we just fast forwarded through that.

I mean if I wanted that kind of thing I'd just watch Hollyoaks instead.

I tried "Fresh Meat" but realised just too old to find college kids shagging about to be funny. Hey we all end up as boring old farts eventually if you're a teenager reading this - yes even YOU!

I see Downton Abbey is still going - even the Mrs who likes costume drama got bored with it by the end of the last series.

Drat. I've watched all the Breaking Bad I can now and await delivery next week of the final 8 episodes.

Yeah, I know it's on Netflix, I just can't be bothered!

There's an irritating new catchy song out called What did the Fox say that me and Christopher both like.. don't youtube it, you'll never get it out of your head..

However I was thinking there is only one answer to question "What did the fox say?"

And that is: "Stop hunting me you bastards!"

Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.

Markets continue to hold up well - November is usually a bit crap but not this time, at least for now though we are down a bit today.

Why are we down today? It's because of good news.

Yes, get this... the mad dysfunctional pisshead alpha male gamblers that run the market want bad news!

Bad news is good! It means more printed money and no interest rate rises. Boo, down with good news... who cares it might create jobs and better times for all, we won't make so much money so quickly....

Anyway look our new-look swish bank head says we are on the road to recovery!! Let's hope he's right because that is what we should really want and interest rate rises are a good thing. Time savers got some reward.

Usually markets go down ahead of a usual santa claus rally. Maybe they still will, I don't know. There are loads of bulls--- merchants out there who will tell you - ask one of them and don't ask me.

The portfolio doesn't seem much affected by the main downmarket today and continues to go sky high with the ISA and spreadbet account awash with cash.

Indeed if I hadn't taken bundles of loot out to buy and refurbish a house they would all be on well over all time highs.

Which of course makes me think I should take some more profits.. and I probably would if we were in say June. However if November can just stay steady a santa rally in December could bring in even more so going to stay brave and hope for no black swan events in the meantime.

I've picked up some shares in Telit (TCM) - machine to machine wireless tech company. That means stuff like remote meter readings and soon self-driving cars.

I've bought it even though it has gone up a lot recently (I nearly bought some much cheaper a few days ago but got distracted and forgot!) So it is possible for now the entry price might be too high we'll see.

Never mind as this looks like a terrific growth share even though it doesn't look obviously very cheap, I'm looking forward to a future where it's going to do rather well and so right now I've bought it as a long-term ISA trade looking for a potential doubler over one or two years.

I got mine in two bundles around 144 as it dipped a bit yesterday. It struggles to get above 150 at the moment, if it can then more upside to come. I think I will keep any stop fairly loose and keep it if I can. Indeed I think I would more likely buy more say if it dipped back down to say 120-130ish rather than sell.

Telit ticks all my boxes, good rising profits and low debt and a good market/sector looking ahead and possibility of getting bid for. I guess there might still be profit-takers about who might push it back but hoping once they are out of the wayI hope it's up.

...I like to Telit how it is.

Now... new issues! There are a lot of them about! In fact I am now gonna go new issue crazzzzeeeee...

I bought some of a recent new issue Kromek (KMK) at 62 after also getting some for my pension a couple of weeks ago at 58 ish.

It develops high performance materials and products for radiation detection.

Plenty of markets for this including detecting explosive materials for airports and identifying cancerous materials.

Kromek has that chance of coming up with one amazing game changer and if it can do that, I think it could be a trebler or more. Probably plenty of patience needed and a few shakeouts to jump over.

So, I got my allocation of new issue Merlin (MERL) my application for 10 grands worth getting me nearly 5 grands worth, bit better allocation than Royal Mail!

I ended up with 1,888 shares at the allocation price of 315.

I bought a few more with a spreadbet at around 340 on a more shorter-term basis as the issue appears to be very popular.

Seems to be going well and aiming for 400. Still don't know how long I will keep them. Maybe take profits on half perhaps at 400 and keep the rest?

I have put in for an allocation of another big issue this week, Infinis. I'll know later this week how many I got. Not an easy type of new issue to weigh up but there is to be massive dividend so that sways it for me.

You can probably still get some via your broker but some of them are closing the offer at close of play today.

I didn't get involved in two new issues this week, Just Retirement and Rightster. Both to me seem to be floated too high.

Just is an okay business growing at about ten pc a year but with a profits warning from a rival being valued at over a billion looks too much but I might be interested at say 170p.

And Rightster is a crazily valued tech company, a clue is it is incredibly hard to get any real figures about the company - it all seems to be a bit vague everything's good but not a mention of what it makes or loses in its admission doc that I could see... it might come good in time but I'm steering clear for now at these levels.

Csr has been crazy volatile up and down and I then remembered why I never buy crazy volatile shares: note to self, leave shares like this alone. Anyhow I could have taken a profit on them as they soared higher the other day but managed not to and instead took a loss (doh!) of £288. Note taken.

Vesuvius has proved a lovely spreadbet.. but its failure to get and stay above 500 has made me take profits at 494 for a profit of £2.370.

I sold Caracal at 476.1 - given I don't understand oil shares very well and it's been gradually dipping it seemed sensible for now, maybe get back in lower - profit on it is £742.

So, ladies and gentleman one loss and two profits leaves a banked profit today of £2,824.

Elsewhere

Last two trades have been brilliant, both Avation and Avintrans that dynamic duo have soared.

Same with recent buy Arrow Global (ARW) which has now pushed through 250 and looks on course for the bullseye (arrow - bullseye, gettit?) of 300 at least

And what can I say about Royal Mail? I still haven't sold it!
Probably shoudda. But it's only a small amount so I didn't bother.

A nice rise too for recent trades Accumuli and Dillistone... hopefully more upside in both of those.

SQS and Porvair are two that have gained a lot of ground this week, nice work both.

Telecom Plus - still hovers around 14-15 quid now! I have near £600 grands worth. Renew is really paying off now with some nice rises.

32 Red has had a brilliant time - up another good ten per cent this week and it looks like my original buy is going to be a doubler.

Well, it proved correct to sell off some of my Dialight recently. However I still have a long-term stake. It seems fair that it sold off as profits are flat but next year I suspect they will head straight back up again so considering a buy again in the 800-900 area where it now looks fairly valued for upside again.

Kentz has been rising again. Perhaps the fact the big didn't go through is good news as in time a new bidder might have to pay an awful lot more.

Regeneris has been showing some good gains and perhaps can soon get up to the 300 mark.

Cohort has had a great couple of weeks an zoomed up over 2 quid.
The future continues to looks very bright for Vectura (VEC) which recently reported approval for another of its drugs. Looks like it might not be long now till I doubled up on the first buy. Massive profits now though struggles to get through 110.

Entertainment One has had a nice run higher .
GB continues to push up and this one has more or less become a doubler for me.

I've been testing out a new spreadbet firm over the last year. I just won't recommend anything unless I have really tested it over a long time and now happy to endorse it especially for any bets on indicies as the spread is only 0.8 on stuff like the FTSE.
Also they don't seem to do any messing about in stopping winning trades from being executed which has been known with a few of the firms which I totally refuse to endorse.
Execution of trades have been spot on as has account management and a robust system too. I really can't find fault with it.

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:

Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Capital Spreads offer

Capital Spreads offers a really excellent book on spreadbetting for those who open accounts through the link below. Spreads are very tight and every trade has to have a stop loss which is excellent discipline to have especially for beginners. Execution is really good I find and they also allow shorts on shares it is hard to get shorts on like say Carpetright or facebook.

Telecom Plus Offer

Want to quit the rat race? Try and start a new source of income so one day you can tell the boss to stuff it? You could do what I did to escape my grotty office job and become an independent distributor for the Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on Wednesday afternoons.
