Unfortunately the Burns household is very sad.
Unbelievably and unexpectedly we had to put our one-year-old cat down - a decision which caused us all considerable heartbreak.
The poor thing had been stuggling with constipation for some time and she had had many visits to the vet and I spend many thousands on medicine and an operation to help her.
For some reason, poo was simply getting stuck inside her causing her terrible problems.
After many investigations the vet called us to tell us her colon was more or less just not working.
Crumble could be kept alive but her colon couldn't just be fixed and she'd have to have the equivalent of an enema every week. Pretty much, the vet said, she might live for a miserable couple of years with a horrible minor operation weekly to remove the poo.
I expect you can imagine the internal stuggles we had to come to a decision.
The vet advised us to end Poor Crumble's torment. She had had another family with the same problem - the family had continued to try and keep their cat going but that cat had a miserable time. And they wished they had given her a comfortable exit earlier on.
If we had kept Crumble alive she would never live the life of a normal one year old cat hunting and skipping carefree.
She'd be sat in a chair feeling horrible and not able to move much which is pretty much how she had been for a while.
It was simply rotten luck. It was horrible.
We were all devestated. Christopher was very upset but has taken it as well as could be expected.
I know time will pass and the pain will gradually go. But it is awful when you get up still and think where's Crumble...
When time has helped us heal we'll find a stray cat from Battersea Dog/Cat home and at least we can give an unwanted animal a new loving home.
I know there are a lot of lovely people out there and you might think of sending a message of support to us but actually please don't.
As you might imagine a load of "sorry for your loss" emails would make things worse.
We are just getting on with it and keeping busy to try and forget a bit though it is hard, especially for Mrs NT who spent all day with Crumble.
Rest In Peace poor Crumble. Our thoughts are with you and we are so sorry.
Don't forget you can spend a day with me at my next seminar on Monday
March 9th, and get into good trading practices by trading live with me.
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "March seminar interested".
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Here's some feedback from from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

Spreadbetting firm Capital Spreads offers a great book on how to spreadbet for readers via this link http://www.capitalspreads.com/ntrader
Its spreads are surprisingly tight and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset. A super site for beginners.
I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on March 9th
Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a decent early bookers discount available for those booking nice and early.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

While some of the policies are ludicrous I have to agree with decriminalising drugs and prostitution.
There's no point in laws that can't be enforced. The crime and waste of police time that would be stopped would be amazing.
Much reduced use of jails too is commonsense. There must be other punishments we can make without locking minor criminals up. I would suggest hard labour instead. Getting them out there and working. Much more sensible.
Make them sweat instead of being locked up in comfort. Then they might not want to come back.
Well done to James Blunt for having a go at Chris Bryant. A "classist gimp."Why does Labour have to make a class issue of everything?
The policitics of jealousy as usual. Bryant is another champagne socialist most of which dominate Labour.
Bryant makes so many idiotic comments about the arts and TV. Oh and he went to a fee-paying school costing £33k a year. Bryant just wants to be James Blunt and not another hated policitican.
Hurrah - Google has ditched its horrible glasses. It was another horrible idea from the company.
Let's hope the idea for driverless cars gets ditched too. Otherwise we will all end up as google people, with no fun whatsoever.
Well, the Big Brother producers got very lucky with Perez Hilton!
They must have thrown megabucks for two Kates, Price and Hopkins expecting them to bitch up the house.
When in fact Perez it turns out is probably a crazy alkie who gets madder and madder daily.
Causing us a lot of entertainment but not for those inside with him. Still, they get paid a lot for putting up with it so can't have too much sympathy.
The contestant I like the least is Nadia. As Hopkins points out she's one of those lefty liberals who think they know best for everyone else. They know exactly what we should be doing/eating/saying and would love to control our lives so everyone is as "amazing" as they are.
When push comes to shove and they get anything wrong they disappear.
They are in love with themselves and think they are better than anyone else.
They shou'd never have let rampant alkie Jeremy in at all, a terrible mistake.
Patsy can't really cope in there and Keith is struggling a bit. Katie Price turns out to be a bit dull more than anything else.
The producers are doing their best to keep Perez in as without him, it would have been incredibly dull.
Amazed the contestants are so non self-aware they don't realise the changes in personality late at night are due to alcohol and it shows what a destructive drug it is.
People like Kavanagh, perfectly nice and lovable when sober turn into horrible vindictive, jealous, aggressive people when drunk. Like his attack on poor Cheggers.
He attacked Cheggers because Cheggers doesn't drink as he's an alkie but recognised that and stopped drinking many years ago.
The attack was because he is actually jealous of Cheggers and his ability to stay calm. Kav doesn't realise he wants to be like Cheggers and the alcohol brings out all his demons, one of which is low self-esteem.
The Mrs was very keen to watch Wolf Hall. On my own I wouldn't have not being as cultured!
I struggled with it as history wasn't a good subject for me at school but the Mrs filled in the gaps for me. Enough there for me to join her for the next episode.
I can see how it will pick up the pace next time and who knows? Maybe I will end up loving it.
The only thing is: where are the car chases?
Girls is back - not nearly as good as it was but still watchable..
The new series of Broadchurch is a little contrived but also just about watchable though you've got to overlook the court scenes are unbelievable.
Those of you who want to spreadbet on sports and entertainment shows like the X Factor and Big Bro, here's a great sportsbet site.

I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.
I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.
Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!

"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites

genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.
ADVFN level 2 offer
First great deal: If you want level 2, through me it is only £350 for your first year including VAT!
This compares to £473 direct from advfn inc vat so this deal saves you over a whopping £120! ADVFN level 2 also includes all the live trades made through Plus Markets which I find invaluable.
To accept this great deal just e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Level 2 offer" in the subject line and I will tell you how to get it. Level 2 gives you access to all the market maker positions and the order book and I would not trade without it!
More on level 2 in my book and I spend hours on it at my seminars. So if you get level 2 and want to learn how to use it properly live, book my seminar!
ADVFN Bronze Offer
To take up the offer, e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with Bronze in the subject line and I will tell you how to claim the deal.
Bronze is included inside the level 2 deal.
Advfn Silver Exclusive Offer
The deal is via me you can save nearly £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com if you'd like this deal with "silver" in the subject line.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

In my books I do bang on about being careful with "leverage."
"Leverage" is just a spreadbetting firm giving out credit so you trade more and so they make more money.
The amount of leverage they give out is way too much and with the news of the Swiss Franc sudden massive change loads of trades got totally wiped out.
Not only were traders wiped out but some spreadbet outfits that allowed too much leverage meaning their traders can't pay their debts and so they have to take the hit.
Alpari was badly hit, pretty much wiped out, IG lost £30 million and London Capital a modest £1.7 max.
The lesson here for those of you who use spreadbetting is, do NOT over borrow.
Imagine what would happen if some of your positions went wrong/bust. Your losses might be massive, could you afford to pay them?
Spreadbetting debts are liable to law, so they could send the bailiffs round. Beware!
Always only use a bit of leverage if offered. Please! I have heard enough stories of people being wiped out. As they always say, only play with money you can afford to lose and can cover with real money.
It's time for a bit of caution at the mo - what with money printing and the Greek troubles and the Greek election this weekend.
Expect probably a lot of volatility in the next few days. Things might go up massively or down massively or both at the same time!
It was pretty volatile after the QE announcement this lunchtime as traders tried to make sense of things. However the amount of it should be seen as broadly positive.
Of course the fact they are having to do the QE is because things aren't exactly great so we ought to bear that in mind.
January is a tricky month anyway which I'm wary of and I don't take on unnecessary risks.
However I have made one or two trades in some favourites.
I'm very grateful to an "analyst downgrade" for the drop in price of Entertainment One (ETO) as it meant I've been able to buy some more at a lovely price (280.2)
I've more than four timed my money on this company making me more than £30,000 and more than happy to top up with more.
If you go to the cinema these days chances are Entertainment One will be the first thing you see on the opening titles. It also makes popular TV shows like Peppa Pig.
And not only are profits on the up but so is the valuation of its catalogue which is worth a fortune.
I think eventually the shares will go to a fiver but the first target which should be obtained this year is 350.
I had a very nice run with Spire (SPI) and so lobbed a few out at 341.96. The shares went down due to a placing at 315 - shares often go down to a placing price and then go back up again so I gratefully bought them back at 314.4 and 314.7.
It's a big dodgy touching anything oil related right now but Pressure (PRES) was probably hit way overhard and I have bought some .
Shares have more than halved so I've bought some on a little bottom feeding (Sounds horrible) - it's bought its Sheffield base to cut costs which was announced this week.
I've added some more Pets At Home (PETS) after its decent statement yesterday. Already in a great profit from the ones I bought in the 170s.
New stores are opening but I especially liked the revenue increase of 26% from its joint vet practices.
Most traders shun this kind of share as they perceive it as boring but I don't see why this one shouldn't have a good year with current increases it looks worth more, and no reason why it shouldn't head back up to its float price of 250ish. It's also a nice sleep at night one.
I sold and then re-bought London Capital Group. (Lcg). It started to tumble as it got hit by the Franc debacle and I closed for close to break even. However the shares tumbled this morning so I bought some this morning with the view the markdown has been totally overdone. It said up to £1.7m of losses at most could occur and given the masses of cash and that it is going into profit means to me it's a buying opportunity today with very limited potential downside unless I am crazy.
Finally I picked up some 32 Red (TTR) - this one has been well oversold on new gambling licensing regimes and in my opinion and today's very bullish statement shows why it has become very cheap now.
It announced record gaming revenues and a very good performance in Italy. A strong start to the year already, it has to be worth more. It looks a good gamble for recovery!
Let's have a look at some shares in the porfolio that have had statements..
Servelec's post year-end statement was confident and bullish and all seems on track so see no reason why not to hold it for as long as possible for gains. It also has to be on a potential bid list.
Sprue Aegis put out a fantastic report, expecting to beat market expectations - a really strong update. Plenty of profit here now but there is more to come. If it were not for weak currency it would have galloped much higher.
A good trading statement from KBC this morning. Results are in line and when you look at those the shares look mighty cheap and directors are piling in. It won a good contract extension and has a record order book.
Quartix issued a steady update, nothing remarkable but nothing bad either.
Energy Assets has won a decent metering deal with Westminster Council, one of many to come I suspect and directors are buying after it said revenue was up but its meter deal with BG was moving slower than expected. I am staying put for the long term here.
Regenesis put out a decent trading statement and with directors buying straight after the shares have gone up nicely.
GVC reported well last week, very strong sales indeed and a wonderful dividend, it went ex today which is why it is down a bit but a nice dividend has arrived in spreadbetting accounts and soon to be in the ISA.
Xeros Tech has boomed higher last 2 weeks... As those of you who get my SIPP email know and those of you who have been to seminars also know I have been buying these for the pension since 70p and have now trebled on them making massive profits. Hard one to call as it's a jam tomorrow story but the jam could end up being thick.

SPREADFIRMS RECOMMENDED AND USED BY ME:
For biggest range of spreadbets:

For cheapest FTSE bets 0.8 spread suggest

For tightest FTSE 250 spreads suggest

Dignity which owns funeral parlours has soared nearly 200 points since bought it last month. Nice. Those who come to seminars know I have already doubled my money on Dignity having bought in the 700s and 900s a while back.
Vectura has absolutely stormed up, I have a lot of these - Vectura has been making a lot of decent announcements and today submissions for new drugs have been filed in the states. 150p is the next area that needs breaking.
Audioboom has an overhang cleared according to the Mail today which might help the shares rise back again.
Tep keeps dropping. Maybe to do with energy prices dropping but it looks very good value now, it's a long-term hold from a quid and under and hadn't expected to buy more but I am getting tempted as it is trading on less than 14x expected profits which looks cheap for what is still a growth stock.
I can't believe I did do well out of the British Airways spreadbet now up more than 150 points, or whatever it is called International Consolidated.. I got lucky there though.
For those of you thinking of playing the Ftse or Dow it might be worth opening an account here in readyness as the FTSE spread is only 0.8

FOR SMALL COMPANIES:
It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Xeros so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link.

TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC
If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on every other Thursday afternoon.
