I would love to say it's great to be back. But, frankly it isn't!
We're literally just back from Dubai, sun and warmth all day. So you can imagine what it is like being back to cloud and cold. Yes, boo. If it wasn't for school I'd be off somewhere warm in November and see ya in April.
Even better with the time difference, markets don't open till noon there. Fantastic. Whose idiotic idea is it to open at 8am here?
We're all a bit weirdly lagged. Getting up at 5am and going to bed at 8 !
Bit of turbulence on the way back. I was looking at the map thinking: "Come on just make it a bit further, I don't fancy crashing in Ukraine..." Then "Bugger it's Romania next, what's the healthcare like there?"
"Come on if we can just stay in the air another 20 minutes, we hit Germany, great hospitals there, come on, we can do this..." Yes, let's crash over Germany that's our best chance of survival..."
Anyway turbulence stopped over Germany so went back to watching "Lucy" a decent thriller as we flew the rest of the way back with no problems. Just as well we didn't fly over Greece, plenty of turbulence there.
As you can tell we had a great time. Started off on the 40th floor of a City hotel overlooking many miles of the harbour. A stunning view - spent probably a few hours over time just staring at it. (The view).
The view came into its own on new year's eve where we had a bird's eye view of the amazing fireworks. That's a lot of views, I should go back and re-write but I'm jetlagged and can't be bothered so there.
New year's day we moved onto a beach hotel. Christopher found a few boys his own age, and they formed a gang.
I think the gang possibly terrorised the staff for free ice cream. However the gang cleverly got adults on their side by offering them free ice cream so we turned a blind eye.
They also enjoyed seeing how far they could go before the lifeguard told them off. "No flips allowed". Health and safety and all that. Flipping crazy if you ask me.
Anyway the main thing is Christopher got to be head of the gang. I think he'll be the boss of whatever he does. We just have to make sure he isn't the boss of his parents.
There are plenty of benefits to a Dubai break. Perfect weather, a relaxed atmosphere and no plague of hustlers. Except for one poor guy trying to sell an IPhone.
Yes, of course I'll buy an Iphone from someone I don't know in the street. If only he knew I didn't even have one and don't want one even if it's free!
"A year's guarantee" he shouted hopefully at our departing backs. He'd be brilliant at any branch of carphone warehouse.
Apart from him, no hustling, no hordes of drunk obnoxious Brits (Didn't see one) no mess, great food, service and atmosphere. People from all cultures mix well.
Now Christopher is into supercars he enjoyed taking pix of all the amazing cars out there. Of course he is only into cars because I'm not, typical kids eh!
Amazingly the Dubai Police has its very own police supercars, they include a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, an Aston Martin, a Bentley and even a BMW and Mercedes. You can imagine the meeting can't you?
"Yeah we'd better get our own supercars or else the gangsters could outrun us..."
High Fives all round!
Ever since the supercar fleet was introduced, drivers have been begging the police to arrest them and take them to the police station in one of the motorized beauties, just so they can have a first hand experience of what it feels like to sit in such a powerful beast.
And they routinely parade the cars with the public taking pix of the coppers by their cars.
Can you imagine it happening here? The Met Police buys its own Ferrari on the pretext of being able to outrun anything else.... That would go down well...
Anyway enough of my holidays, right?
Enjoyed seeing some old faces at the follow up seminar in December there will be another one at some point in 2015 when I climb out of a winter lazy feeling.
Don't forget you can start the new year with me at my next seminar on
January 26th, make it your new year's resolution to come and spend a day with me and get into good trading practices by trading live with me.
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "January seminar interested".
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Here's some feedback from from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on January 26th
Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a decent early bookers discount available for those booking nice and early.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Not one decent new idea between them.
I think I'll be watching CNN instead of Sky News from now on - guaranteed no British politicians!
Oh the irony of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook suggesting we all read books.
He wants everyone to read one book a fortnight! This coming from the man who is helping to destroy book reading with the horrible Facebook with people reading all the crap on there instead of reading.
And remember folks, books don't need charging. The number of times I had to take the Mrs' kindle to the hotel room to charge it up while I used my old techology which never needs charging... a real book!
Interestingly, reports are kindle sales and downloads are dropping and old fashioned books are selling well!
Congrats to Times columnist Caitlin Moran for bringing up the subject of homework.
Yes ban it now!! In fact my political party would have this as the single policy and we'd win easily. All homework banned for all!!
What is the point of it especially for under 12's? They're at school for 7 hours ffs! After school they should be enjoying running around and having fun. Not painfully doing MORE sitting down learning stuff they will never need to know in real life.
Homework is a pain for parents, children and teachers and often causes family rows and arguments. Let's bin it!
Homeland's finale was a bit dull. I hope they don't turn it back into a family style soap.
Dunno about you but Carrie's missing mum holds zero interest for me, or her fledgling romance.
And I'm not sure about the ending - seems unlikely Saul could be bought so easily.
Broadchurch is back.. not seen it yet so don't tell me a thing!!
Big Brother is also back, the celebrity one I mean who would watch the normal one any more?
We watch because it's fun to see desperate celebrities basically being ordered around and made fun of for our entertainment...
They hired motormouth Katie Hopkins who will say a anything controversial you like for cash.
Good idea except they should leave her to it instead of forcing her into slagging off her opponents.
Keith Chegwin looks the one to do well early and would be my early favourite. Unless he goes bonkers which is always possible.
There are a few too many silly bimbo model types, why bother including them? And why Alexander O'Neill? His agent has advised him very badly.
Ken Morley looks a bit puzzled and lost by the whole thing but if he manages to stay the course could do well. I guess the older you are the harder it is in there.
Patsy Kensit looks very relaxed and would also be on my shortlist of potential winners. But there is a lot of dead weight in there.
I guess producers will try and keep Hopkins in there for as long as they can as she's being paid to create trouble and drama.
Those of you who want to spreadbet on sports and entertainment shows like the X Factor and Big Bro, here's a great sportsbet site.

Good quick execution of bets and a great range of markets. Recommended!

I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.
I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.
Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!

"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Well the Xmas rally and new year slump rightaway worked out almost to the day. The rally started a day or two later than usual but there were quite a few points for the taking and I got £8,000 ish out of it, stopped out of it as it started to slip.
Sadly because I was on holiday mode I never got the return trip on the short side which is annoying as it was so obvious to short the Dow at 18,000. There was a wonderful 500 points to be had before it came up again yesterday and today.
But what with the beach and relaxing and cocktails and all I never got round to it now I am a lazy fat cat and don't need the money. I didn't do it. Hope you did.
Yes, lazy old fat cat now that's me. I remember when I used to be a hungry trader.. yeah I'd have made a load on the short side from new year.
Which makes me ponder again, why do I carry on trading at all? I should bank all that's left, take my millions and move along to something challenging again.
I have a lot of other stuff away from trading I want to do. I think it is some laziness.
I think also though I still enjoy the cut and thrust of it and the joy of getting something really right. And I like the detection work, finding something good and then getting the perfect entry price. That's rewarding.
I'll have to have a think. Maybe there is a happy medium.
(Loads of happy mediums around with such a gullible public)
Anyway while I'm still awake (jetlagged from Dubai) - here are one or two trades I made. I didn't do much apart from the santa rally bets after all what are holidays for?
Servelec (SERV) has been a brilliant share for me and in a lovely profit now and as usual I employ my strategy of buying more of a share already doing well for me.
The reason I bought more at a much higher price than I already bought was an announcement it spent 23 million on buying another company that will be earnings enhancing rightaway.
It will really help SERV to expand and win a lot more contracts and this share looks like a "Keeper" for at least a year or two for potential even bigger gains.
An investment mag this week pondered on likely takeovers in the health sector the share is in and it is possible a takeover could come there at some point.
The oil price falls have caused carnage in oil related stocks and lucky I don't buy oil companies as a rule - one or two in the past.
There's two I think have been oversold in the sell off and could bounce back strongly - that's KBC and Gulf Marine Services (GMS) both of which I bought before, made a profit on KBC and a loss on GMS.
KBC helps oil companies to save money, so if you think about it, it ought to be going up! It's also raised a ton of money recently, directors have been buying and it announced a major contract extension too. Indeed a director buy has just been announced this very morning.
It looks way undervalued at under 100p and I reckon there is a decent 20% upside to come in KBC. I suspect whenever the catalyst comes it will get rerated back up very quickly.
GMS has pulled back all the way to a quid and that looks like any bad news is in the price so I have bought some back. Looks well oversold and any half decent statement would see them rocket. I would guess it could rise 20% one morning when you least expect it.
I've bought a few Cranswick (CWK) a food producer that came up at the follow up seminar in December.
Fundamentals look nice and it pays out a decent dividend and is in a long-term uptrend.
There was a sudden inexplicable fall in recent new issue Quartix so I snapped up a few more. Looks a nice one with excellent fundamentals and another I hope to tuck away for a couple of years.
Finally a couple I wasn't sure whether to bring up here or leave for those who get my higher risk pension dealings.
I've made decent money on both so far but think there might be more to come and so have added these two shares into my ISA as well as my sipp.
First is London Capital Group (LCG) a spreadbet firm that has been down in the dumps for a while, not managing to make a profit. Really, a spreadbet company ought to easily make a profit after all it is in essence a bookie and bookies usually win!
I bought last month and some more this year as new management has come in and there has been an inflow of cash. So it's not going bust anytime soon and if they can remodel the business it could easily turn around and perhaps even double from here. Volatility should help and it has been a volatile period - a trading statement due soon should tell us one way or the other.
Second is Xeros Tech (XSG). As those of you who get my SIPP email know and those of you who have been to seminars also know I have been buying these for the pension since 70p and doubled on them but I have also bought for the ISA.
It has a brilliant business idea which is polymer bead cleaning - clothes get cleaned much faster and better, a lot less energy is used thus saving businesses like hotels a lot of money.
It recently signed deals with five of the top hotel chains. There is risk of course as profits are way off and more money will probably be needed. However I thought it was worth the risk as if I were a hotel I would definitely buy its services.
When you also think about future potential users - and the domestic market way down the road I could think this could be a big company in the future.
Anyway I've been in for some time and have bought more. They've gone up quite a bit now so maybe a buy on any weakness. Please don't email me about the fact the fundamentals etc don't match my usual criteria. I know! It's a punt on potential future earnings.
I haven't done much selling though long-termer Creston has gone as it seems reluctant to move any further and I have had a lovely run from it so sold at 129 for a profit of £1,705.
While I've been away the porfolio has risen very strongly with some lovely performers.
Death has gone well! Dignity which owns funeral parlours has soared nearly 200 points since bought it last month. Nice.
Those who come to seminars know I have already doubled my money on Dignity having bought in the 700s and 900s a while back.
Vectura has absolutely stormed up, I have a lot of these - Vectura has been making a lot of decent announcements and today submissions for new drugs have been filed in the states.
I kind of wonder if BTG could perhaps bid for Vectura as they are in the same ballpark - together they could form a new drugs FTSE 100 giant. Anyway just wondering, I know nothing!
BTG raised another £150m to help fund another acquision last month and today completed it. In tremendous profits here having timed my money by nearly 8x now making mega thousands. I'm sticking with it I suspect for at least another couple of years and I think in time more upside is to come from FTSE 100 inclusion late this year. 825p is the target area to break through.
Caretech (CTH) hasn't done much since I bought but sticking with it. Audioboom has been disappointing. Though I made nice profits selling some at 17p it seems stuck around 10p for now though up a bit today on further expansion news this time in Africa.
Renew where I have already doubled and more my initial stake made on the site a while back continues to look strong,
Recentish buy Amino has stopped but a good profit there, needs a push up through 130.
Pets At Home produced some very decent figures and it seems to be it is worth more, at least up to 220 so I remain a holder and in a good profit. Can't seem to get above 205 for now. OPG, GB and SEE have been quiet - all probably need some news to push higher. Though there is some upwards movement in two of those today.
Sprue Aegis put out a fantastic report, expecting to beat market expectations - a really strong update. As I mentioned when I bought this lower recently it looks like a lovely company in a growing area.
Telecom Plus floats around the 12-13 mark for now. Picked up a lovely dividend of nearly ten grand last month. Energy Assets still looks a good thing. I can't believe I did do well out of the British Airways spreadbet now up 150 points, or whatever it is called International Consolidated..
GVC continues to be a lovely share. Super profits but the dividends are simply amazing and I got a nice juicy payout of nearly £2,000 recently.
For those of you thinking of playing the Santa rally in late Dec, might be worth opening an account here in readyness as the FTSE spread is only 0.8

** TWO NEWER SPREADFIRMS I USE:
FOR SMALL COMPANIES:
It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:
http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader
It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Dillistone so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link

TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC
If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
IG
I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Telecom Plus Offer
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on every other Thursday afternoon.
