Enjoyed another day online with some of you last week. Thanks for the nice feedback though we need an upgrade to Elizabeth's mike.

Glad some of you enjoyed watching massive cat Jacob who spent the whole day asleep in the fruit bowl. We can't use it for fruit as it is now his bed.

Hopefully you all got the notes and I know I am seeing one or two of you for the spreadbet seminar next month and the follow up in March.

If you missed last week's event have just booked in March 2nd for the next online one, so mail for details. 10am -4.30pm at your place.
The mrs and her sister have gone to Rome. Sadly not quite up to a trip yet thanks to the annoying back issues.

But, I have decided I need a target. So I have booked a (refundable) trip for us to Palma in mid March.

A nice 13th century converted castle.

I am aiming to try this one no matter how much it hurts. I am going to sit on that Easyjet flight whatever the pain. Also hoping by then the tests will have gone. The mrs and her sis were on tenderhooks waiting for the result.

They are currently touring the coliseum there. But the best thing of all is you get a proper
cappuccino there they tell me. Coffee with just a bit of milk and foam. Not a bucket of milk like here.

I feel exceedingly jealous they are there while I am on my own here, google chrome
laptop perched on my tum in bed.

So, on my own currently. It is a bit scary being in charge of the dishwasher and the cats.

After a full house at the weekend, the cats find it weird there is no-one around and seem to be camped out on the bed, squeezing me into the far corner. They also see me as a soft touch and have started demanding food 24/7.

I had to get up at 3am just to shut them up. The mrs takes a firmer approach when she is here but the cats realise I am the equivalent of the geography supply teacher and so take the p1ss. I need to be firmer but how can I when they are so cute?

On reflection, I decided it was best probably just to have takeaways. It will save messing up the kitchen, working out how to do the dishwasher.

You might think yeah right Robbie is going to live off pizzas and kebabs. Well nah to you. My mate Nahra who runs the local grill house is supplying me with very organic burgers and a very healthy salmon thing.

Meanwhile Fabrice who runs the local deli is keeping me going with eggs and avocado on toast and some amazing takeaway chicken salads.

I have just met two Indian guys outside the ex Italian restaurant that went bust. They tell me it will take then two months to sort the place out but then promise authentic Indian cuisine.
Can't wait.

Lovely to speak to some of you on Wednesday for the seminar. Caution was the watchword of the day given market volatility.

Thanks for the great participation and interesting chats. I hope you all do really well and always remember there is no rush at the moment with crazy volatility.

Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!

.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Right, now do what the government tells you and get back to work at the office.

No more of this "Working from home". We all know what WFH means. It means doing FA.

I know what you are really doing working from home. Feet up, watching Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt. Buying stuff on Amazon, instagramming and watching funny cat videos.

Now back to work with you. Get back there for some banter with Jeff in accounts. Surely
you missed that.

I have been so fed up with all of you copying me as I have wfh for 20 years. I used to be able
to go out with no-one in the shops, have a swim with the pool with no-one else there.

But since wfh took off I have had to share a swimming lane with alpha male bankers, and the
shops have been busy and I have struggled to get a seat at the deli for brunch.

So, all of you please PO back to the office. You know you love it really and leave us long-term
wfh people to get back to our lonely lives.

No more masks from today. But some train operators and shops will still ask for them to
be worn.

This is going to cause a lot of problems and fights sadly. I can imagine quite a few rows
breaking out in shops and on transport.

I hope we can all go about our business and be respectful to each other.

If you are worried about people not wearing masks in shops rather than row with them, why not go at off peak times when few are around?

Billions (****) Sky Atlantic
This was a surprise I hadn't noticed the new series in advance. Of course it is all hokum
but always entertaining. Axe has disappeared and Mike is now running the place.

(spoilers coming): Mike's decision to axe his investors is completely nuts and could never
happen in real life but if you treat this now as entertainment it is fun. It's generally
played more for laughs now rather than the drama of series one and two. Some sharp
lines as ever though too many US sports references I don't understand. It was a bit
weird to see Chuck from Breaking Bad!

Hidden Assets (****) BBC 4
And a hidden asset hidden away on an obscure channel. This one is quite a gem
of a drama moves between two countries but is mainly based in West Ireland close
to where the mrs was born! It's a bit The Bridge meets Line of Duty.

It's fab not knowing any of the actors though the lead did appear in the Irish
movie "The Commitments." It looks at the work of the Criminal Assets Bureau in
Ireland as it hunts down those responsible for a bombing. Nicely done.

Kelvin's Big Farming Adventure (*) BBC 1
A terrible pound shop version of the brilliant Clarkson's Farm. Watch that instead on Amazon.
This is a shameless and very poor rip off with less of everything. Less interest, less
sheep, less tractor and less personality. Indeed I can't see how it can be much worse from
the cardboard cutout personality of the star, to the horrible music. Trust me, give it a
miss and watch Clarkson. Even if you hate Clarkson, it is one of the best shows out there.

Dragons Den (****) BBC1
Ooooh, Deborah Meaden really got her claws out over two hapless event runners.
She made an offer but withdrew it when they overdid it trying to get her percentage
down. Even Peter Jones looked shocked. Meanwhile new boy continues to irritate
Peter which makes for some good moments. Poor Tooker looks a bit lost now, he makes
some offers but the contestants want Peter or Deborah.

The Responder (***) BBC1

Well Martin Freeman is some actor and can sure do Liverpool accent. Impressive. But he really needs to "calm down." He plays a copper who's had enough of being a copper and is heading for a breakdown.

This was written by a cop and you can tell, it is more realistic like, they break the rules.
The bit where he finishes off the fag of a woman who'd just died was sharp. The only
thing though while probably truer to life than Line of Duty, it is all a bit grim.

The Apprentice (***) BBC 1

This is gradually becoming a "fast forward". It feels like there is so much manipulation now.
According to the papers, an expert who appeared on the show was asked to change
her mind by the producers. An order was withdrawn to suit whichever team the
producers wanted to win, and so they could kick out their preferred loser.

Is this any surprise? Of course the whole thing is manipulated it is reality tv!

For the first time ever Lord Sir Alan Sugar said the orders were "hypothetical". So we now know the "orders" are definitely fake. Still, it's all just entertainment. More to the point it is time Sir Lord stopped reading out those awful jokes written by the trainee comedians.

Apparently the Tories have changed their party anthem. From now on, it will be
Pink and "Get The Party Started."

Though one suspects poor Boris will sooner than later be playing "It's My Party and I'll
cry if I want to."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Podcast 5:

Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money, plus a £100 competition, top tens, spot the intros, nostalgia corner and loads of laughs. Plus experienced investors have tips for beginners and investment ideas - settle down and spend
some time with the Naked Trader!

The Telegraph features this on its money problem page:

"A forex course I cancelled won't let me have my £3,000 back".

"The presentation was exciting - we were told a few lucky individuals would
get the course for £3,000 instead of £10,000. I was selected."

FFS is all I thought. How could she be so easily taken in. Why didn't she find
out that everyone loses money at Forex? And what luck she had to get the course
for just £3,000!

Hilariously her "mentor" stopped answering her calls once he knew she'd asked
for a refund. She still can't get the money back despite being promised a 14 day cooling off period.

Of course not, all forex courses are scams. Because those running it must know everyone loses. It's just an online casino which will take your chips over time.

Those running these "courses" are appealing to greed and the thought you can make quick money which you simply can't.

Please don't get taken in by youtube vids of someone driving a ferrari telling you they can teach you how to make millions in a few minutes. You won't.

I don't know how many forex trading systems, courses and the like that want to advertise on this site. My guess is I would probably make hundreds of thousands from the ads. They promise to pay me loads. When I say no, they seem amazed. They don't even protest when I say all their "customers" will end up losing.

The same is true of day trading. Despite all the warnings I have given over the years I know when I mail someone and say don't forex or daytrade they'll still do it, the allure of easy money is too much. I am just a boring old fart they think.

You CAN make money on the markets but it takes time, discipline, patience and some effort and you won't make it from "signals" and forex scams. I have had so many mails from people who got done by these things and some lost substantial amounts.

And never think you can make big money fast. Think 25% per year on your capital is doing very well.

There is nothing like an old cliche but a "rollercoaster ride" sums up the last few days.

Or completely nuts! I mean, I have seen some volatile times in the past over more than
20 years of doing this full time but can't remember the Dow swinging from 1,000 points
down to well up over one or two hours.

Today the FTSE has gone from 50 point down to 100 points up!

Tomorrow probably the reverse!

The last few days has seen constant crazy volatility. The excuse given is Ukraine and inflation
and rate rises but we already knew about these things a while back. There was nothing really new.

The sell off in the States and tech shares seemed reasonable as some of the valuations had been nuts.

Why this should lead to 15-25% drops in small caps here that were reasonably valued usually on only tiny selling I don't know. It's very frustrating for investors.

However in times like this if you didn't already sell and you are certain you are in decent quality companies with low debt or net cash it is likely they will come back up.

So it could be the best idea of all would have been to hide behind the sofa, do nothing and keep your fingers crossed!

What you do really depends on who you are, what you want from the market and how much
you have to invest.

So you could:

Ride all this out, ignore it, keep what you have as your view is you'll hold them for years.

Get out fast, the market is going bear - get into cash, be safe collect dividend income.

Sell half your stuff, keep the rest, wait, ride it out.

Sell any stinkers, keep your best companies, have some cash.

Keep most as it will come back up but hedge shorting some shares and indicies.

Hedge - buy gold, silver and all that. Maybe even bitcon!

Actually buy - some shares are now in bargain territory, buy when others are fearful. Then
just hold them.

There isn't a right answer. I am kind of in the middle, sell some stuff, go into some cash and do some hedging. But if there is a bargain maybe consider buying. Bit easier for me to do this
as it is my full-time job.

Overall in these situations you will probably lose some money which is always going to happen. When (lucky me) you have a lot you can "lose" £100k on paper in just one day. Then again it can all come back in just a day.

If it helps the way I work it, I assume only 35%-45% the money I have invested is really mine to spend. The rest I pretend does not exist. Otherwise you can overspend. With spreadbet accounts I assume none of it is real!

I have also never added any new money into the
market over the years except the isa allowance. And actually I haven't used this year's
allowance yet.

Indeed I am going to have to withdraw some as my accountant revealed my tax bill. How
can they take so much? It feels like I have been robbed by the mafia.

Above all main thing is don't get emotional. This is just a business and don't let falls affect
your mood. And it isn't anyone else's fault you lost money.

Got a nice email last week from a chap apologising for being horrid about me on a bulletin board as he lost money on something and so that was my fault. He kind of said he got drunk and wanted to blame someone. I don't even know what he said as I stopped looking at bb's.

Actually this has happened before. Another guy just came clean, said he was an alcoholic who liked going on BB's and slagging people off. Made him feel better, he said. He was sorry too. He says he will never troll anyone again. Though I suspect he really needs to go to AA.

Seems a recurring theme. I had one detractor who was not only nasty about me but said really horrible aggressive, violent and homophobic things about other people he had never met. Even threatened to kill them so frankly I was quite scared of him. Again, bet you he was on alcohol, drugs or steroids.

And I betcha all these people are really nice when not under the influence. So if you get trolled, don't get angry, take pity on them as hard as it seems. And the best move is not to respond. My advice if you get hate from someone who doesn't know you is do not engage with them, don't reply. They want a fight, don't give it to them as you will never win. Remember they're the ones with the problems, not you.

Having hosted the current online seminars it amazes me that even seasoned investors
struggle with how to go short of shares or the market.

Thing is, however good your stockpicking is, if you don't learn or try to understand how to
short the market in a bad year you have little chance of making anything.

Without being able to short over the years there is no way I would have made as much as I have over the years collecting so much on bad companies. Best ones were over £30,000 made on debt laden the AA, but overall Carpetshite was probably my best ever short.

Not sure what it is, I think psychologically many find it hard to do the opposite of investing. I can see that.

But anyway, if you want to learn how to short and how to make money on it as well as everything you ever needed to know about spreadbetting join me for a day online on Feb 9th.
As well as myself I have some interesting guests during the day, spreadbetting bosses and a real life investor who uses spreadbetting to hedge, come and find out how he does it. We will also try and find some range trades. Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com if interested.

A downside of spreadbetting through is overuse of leverage and that can lead to bigger losses as you're using money you don't have. I always suggest not to use it or it you can end up with overtrading and big losses - if you are to do it, you have to be sensible. Interestingly, while 98% or so lose money trading Forex, roughly 30-35% do win spreadbetting so it really is possible. However, if you have a gambling problem definitely do NOT touch spreadbetting.

My book The Naked Trader Guide to Spreadbetting Edition 2 covers all this and lots more.

What have I been up to apart from cursing at the screen like probably all of you?

Well, mainly trying to make sure paper losses aren't too big! I've certainly given back a few
quid this year but shorting has really helped a lot.

I'm sure many of you find it very demoralising like I do to see a favourite share down 25% on very little selling, just markdowns for no real reasons.

There is no right answer, I tend to quickly get rid of anything I'm not sure about though loathe to part with very good companies I've built stakes in which will probably go back up.

As you can well imagine despite already selling a lot recently I did some more
spring cleaning of shares that seemed the weakest.

My cash levels now sitting around £700k.

However if I see a bargain I still can't help buying. So overall I have kept
calm and carried on.

I picked up a few Bloomsbury BMY - been looking at it for a while and bought a few on weakness trying my luck with a DMA order and getting some at the sell price saving me the spread.

I know as I'm a writer that books sell well and Bloomsbury is a star. It's announced profits will
be well ahead of market consensus of over £20 million and a recent acquisition is going well.

You can't really ask more from this company - targets all being hit and it is going brilliantly
in the digital space as well for both children and adult books.

Margins are still pretty decent.

BMY's share price still looks extremely cheap and I reckon it's a lovely isa tuckaway, stick
away, ignore volatility and expect some capital growth and a 3pc dividend.

I was amazed to see one of my biggest holdings Sureserve head down on results. I hadn't intended getting any more but the price was just too tempting.

This social housing energy services group is on a roll from results this week.

Operating profit is up 40% and net cash has grown to over £16m.

I think this is a great hold over the next 2-5 years. It is going to benefit from the current
energy transition agenda.

It looks like it will continue to use cash to acquire others and also has a high debt facility.

The downside is the lack of dividend. But seems to me this is fine and I would prefer it
to use its cash to buy others. Given my new topup this is now my biggest holding.

For those of you who use researchtree, there is an in depth broker report on SUR today which
reckons the shares are well undervalued and something I hadn't thought of which is a switch to hydrogen or other power sources could bring many new opportunities.

If you want to have access to broker notes go to Research-tree.com . Put nakedtrader into

At the beginner/improver seminar last week we chatted live to a spreadbet firm and he
said they were very busy with the current volatility.

We had already assumed that a bit but I thought might as well buy a few more IG.

S bet firms always gain a lot from volatility so it seemed a worthy buy together with some
CMC I hold too.

It actually produced a statement today which was well liked by the market.

Of course if things quieten down, that might be the cue to (hopefully) take profits.

Trustpilot looks like a terrible investment and so I have gone short of this one (Ie betting
on it to go down).

The valuation still looks overcooked despite some recent falls.

We all know what it does, and it is pretty useful - but I can't see how it is valued where it is
given it's loss making.

There is no chance of it going bust as it has some cash but not that much. I think there is
further downside to come.

I went into further cash, as I mentioned earlier up to 700k roughly in real life. This was after
another spring clean as I'd already done quite a bit of selling over the last few months.
One or two were stopsliced and still hold a bit in real life but for ease for me, some positions are totally sold for the website.

Actually felt good, a bit like when you declutter the house and have a spring clean.
They were either shares where I felt I had had a good run and it was time to bank profits or they were shares I wasn't so sure about, or bought recently, or they had weak level 2's or it was time to stem losses before they got any worse.

So the list includes:

Watches - Profit £1,975. Gatc, loss of £1,245. Clinigen, profit £5,760. Hils loss £585.

RMG - profit £835, Harbour, profit £175, Solid State profit £5,663
Fif loss £65 and vtu profit £293.

All of which banks profits of £12,806 for the website though I haven't updated the profit
totals on the site for years due to laziness and also I can't remember how to do it!

Some of these are still great companies and will probably re-enter some of them when the time is right.

With so many markdowns there is a ton of bargains out there! When to snap them up is the question.

To which there is no answer though level 2 helps a bit.

It is worth having a list of shares you would like to get into once things get calmer and clearer.

Shorts have been going extremely well with massive gains in Boo Hoo, Uber, RobinHood,
Trainline, Bitcon, Aston Martin and Dechra.

Easyjet's statement was liked by the market today so travel stocks look forwards to a return
of passengers and holidaymakers.

However you are handling the volatility good luck, and maybe doing nothing may end up being the best move. I do tend to play it safe which could be totally wrong but I have always
been safety first. So if shares suddenly spike up quickly I'll miss out.

Whatever you do keep trading and investing away from your brain once off the keyboard it is only money which I hope you don't need. If so enjoy life away from it, do not take it out on your friends and relatives or tipsters or commentators.

I use Interactive Investor for my sipp and it is pretty decent. It has a refer a friends thing, so you'd get £125 off its fees and I would get £200 into my account. Seems like a win win, but only applies to isa or standard trading accounts of £10k plus.

So, if you wanna be my friend, mail me and will tell you how to get the discount.

If you want to be my lover, then you gotta get with my friends first. Got it?

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

If you are thinking of A ftse trade try https://www.spreadco.com/nakedtrader
as their spread is the tightest at 0.8. Also very pleased with execution - FTSE cos the cheapest spreads there too.

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does: https://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader
****
Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
