Had a very interesting day at the spreadbetting seminar this week.

Lots of decent ideas came up and so glad beginners felt they now understood it much better.

I think the resounding message of the day is don't overuse leverage on spreadbets as it
can lead to big losses and overtrading.

I think we figured a way to ensure this.

Thanks to all the expert guests who took part you were all brilliant.

I always learn something myself at online events even though been doing this full time for more than 20 years.

I'll probably do another SB one near the end of the year.

In the meantime if you'd like to spend a day with me and live markets online from your place a beginners/improvers one is only round the corner on March 2nd.

Email robbiethetrader@aol.com with "March seminar interested".

Visited a swimming pool for the first time in ages.

I have been using the flow pool in the garden but after the back problems mentally was a bit scared of getting out to the pool.

However, fears were conquered and I managed 20 lengths.

Two years ago I used to knock up 50 in 25 minutes. I'll get back there!

Amazing how quiet it was compared to two years ago.

I would think Virgin must be losing a fortune on these bigger clubs.

I wonder how long before they have to close some clubs or sell them on to someone like David Lloyd?

Looking at reviews the staff feel they are treated pretty badly.

The guy who came to visit to service the flow pool/hot tub told us a shortage of chips is causing a shortage in pools/tubs and he says in some places there is a two year waiting list!

While they would like to supply more tubs/pools and bring down the waiting list they just can't get their hands on them.

He said if we wanted to sell ours second hand we'd probably get more for it than we paid for it new!

Maybe it's chavvy and I know some people look down their nose at them and I understand why but on a cold winter day it is lovely being in warm bubbles looking out at nature.

After two years off visiting the dentist after covid looks like I need two implants.

Oh well, and I thought I had really cut down on twixes.

I could have crowns redone but why not just go long-term, seems sensible.

I know the bill's going to be more painful than the treatment.

On the plus side the hygienist said I was doing a much better job and I only need to stump up £75 every 6 months instead of 6.

Looks like I have become a dab hand at putting those little stick things between the teeth.

More likely it's because I've cut back on twixes.

Good luck to all parents over half term - time to work out what to do with the kids for
a week.

The Mrs had her booster and son had his second.

Both felt pretty ropey the day after but looks like they are on the road to recovery.

Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!

.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Apparently most people would prefer to keep covid measures like distancing and masks.

Personally I tend to agree with letting restrictions go and allowing people to use their
own common sense.

Enough must be enough.

I've known many who've had the new one and it's not been as bad as flu.

We have to start to live with it.

You have to pity those in New Zealand who have been locked away for so long.

Surely we have to try and get out there again, learn to communicate.

Many have used it as an excuse just to stay at home but is that a way to live a life all tucked away?

What a fabulous idea tried out by a hospital.

The idea is to place a GP and nurse outside A and E to head off those at the pass who really should not be heading for a and e at all.

75 patients were re-directed in a single day for an appointment with their own
GP or even a pharmacist.

One patient even went to a and e as he had run out of calpol.

I think it is time to clamp down on those visiting A and E because of alcohol related
incidents that was their faults for being plonkers.

If you arrive well over the limit for example because you had fight with
someone or banged your head because you were pissed then you'll get treated but
you will have a £100 penalty to go with it.

The Teacher (***) Ch 5

Disappointing final episode of the drama.

It all became fairly obvious and the storyline ended up a bit far fetched. Shame as the first two episodes were nicely done.

Maybe Sheridan Smith will have a bit of a rest as she's been in ten of the last 11 commercial tv dramas. Oh, hang on....

No Return (***) ITV
And a drama starring... er Sheridan Smith playing... er.. a feisty northern lass.

This time her character's son is accused of a sex assault while on hols in Turkey.

Nothing wrong with this (the show not sex assaults) and it's easy going.

Not so sure if I was Turkish as their police are portrayed as cartoon baddies who are bribeable.

The Turkish lawyer is a cartoon comedy character. It's all perfectly fine and nice and easy.

No time shifts a big bonus.

Cheaters (****) BBC1
What! A BBC comedy that actually raises a laugh.

Cleverly designed in 10 minute chunks.

Some fun and sharp lines so well done to the writers. Yes, laughs from the BBC.

It's been a while coming.

And Just Like That (***) (Sky Comedy)

The Sex in the City follow up ended with an encouragement for Samantha to
return if there is a next series. It will need her.

Well, it wasn't a disaster of a series as it could have been.

Lots of decent moments but it was spoiled by way too much wokeness and Miranda turned
from cool lawyer to a complete ditz.

The romance between Miranda and Chay was very unlikely and there was way too much of the "comedian". Still, overall a sound effort.

And women everywhere love the hundreds of outfits worn. (How are they supposed to afford them?)

Chloe (****) BBC 1
A decent start to a psychological drama about a woman who uses a fake ID to infiltrate
a group of well to do friends.

The drama is nicely built up - her mental state is fascinating.

She isn't just a conwoman (conperson?) (Conhalfwayhouse?) but there are many layers to her.

I guess it is exploring her self hatred and insecurities. Be fun to see how it develops and well acted by Erin Doherty who played Princess Anne in The Crown.

Hidden Assets (****) BBC 4
This hidden asset proved to be just that. It's on I player I think now as it's finished.
Nice ending which sets up for series two.

The Fear Index (**) Sky Atlantic
I was looking forwards to this adaptation of Robert Harris financial thriller.

What more could you want than an AI robot selling everything and bringing down the whole market.

But so far so disappointing. It moves so slowly. The acting isn't so great either.

Hoping that it picks up the pace, I'll keep going for when the super computer goes bonkers and sends people like me into the poor house. Serves me right for being so smug.

Have you been inundated with valentine's day stuff since Jan 1? Me too.

You really have to be a right mug to eat out at double the price.

Go on the 13th or 15th instead!

Soon no more terrible marketing emails. "Robbie we love you and missed you" from a chiropractor.

Experts told us this week a happy marriage should consist of sex five times a week.

Given I've scored a zero so far this week I have an awful lot to catch up on before
the end of the week.

Although five times three minutes, so only 15 minutes really to fulfil my quota.

Anyone got a cigarette?

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets rarely cease to surprise.

For a lot of this week participants decided all those things we were worrying about
well, they are nothing to worry about.

Forget rampant inflation, some crazy US prices, Russia, China, et all.

Let's chuck some more money in.

Of course I know it doesn't matter what I think which is there is quite a bear case and I'll
just follow what's going on, and if that's buying I'll take part.

We seem to have had more optimistic days then pessimistic this week but a bit of fear back
in today.

It's all a bit bonkers. Markets are down as US inflation is higher than expected.

Quel surprise. Of course by the end of the day they could be up.

Who the hell knows what is going on.

At the spreadbetting seminar this week, I think we uncovered quite a few shorting ideas.

It's nice to have a list of potential shorts for when an inevitable slump comes in at some point.

And still happy to have a wad of cash on the side.

To some trades then.

With covid fears decreasing and the holiday business re-opening up it seemed a no brainer
to pick up some more Easyjet.

I have no idea how to value an airline, if I was looking at the figures blind I think the valuation would be not much!

But the market looks to the future and thinks Easyjet will take off this summer.

We also bought a few live at the spreadbetting seminar with a nice little trading plan which
I hope works.

Could be a ride up to a tenner here at which point I will hopefully scarper with some nice profits.

Of course it will also move with the main market and it's volatile so tough one to manage.

I picked up a few TT Electronics (TTG) which seem to have formed a support base.

It came up at the online seminar as a potential spreadbet though have ended up getting it in the isa.

It's in electronics and power management - if forecasts are anywhere near right then it
looks a bit undervalued.

The downside for me and why I have bought small for now is the net debt which isn't under my parameters by much though there is no sign it's in any actual trouble.

If it can get that down then valuations could soar.

Its full year is due in a month, if the shares start to fall ahead of that I might take a quick
loss, be interesting to see how it goes.

I bought some Watches of Switzerland WOSG. You may remember a while back I made
a good profit on these.

I am going to try and repeat the trick even though the shares have gone up a little since
my first go at them.

Yesterday's statement was very bullish and it expects results at the top end of expectations.

Rolex prices and going up and WOSG seems very busy trying to expand not only in the US
but also across Europe, demand in the UK is also strong.

WOSG also has another revenue stream in luxury jewellery and that has been going at a great
rate too.

It looks like rising prices and inflation are so far not stopping people from buying
luxury!

Problem with holding these shares is the volatility, they can go up or down 50 points just like that.

I am going to try and hold them for a while and er... take my time.

I bought some more Facilities by ADF.

Discussed them at the last update in depth so you can go back to the archive for that then lazy me has less writing to do about it.

I see the Mail on Sunday picked it up and tipped it.

Strange that paper seems to tip a lot of stuff after I feature them here (!?).

Anyway the write up was decent and agree with it, you should be able to google its write up.

Got lucky here I think with one of the few IPOS in the last 12 months that have actually been
realistically priced and hopeful that it will hit 100p in time.

Today it issued an ahead of expectations statement and it was all rather bullish.

Unlucky they released the statement on a down day though. And of course as is typical on results day the shares fell - I might be tempted for another top up.

I rarely get involved with retailers - not sure why, find them hard to value, indeed have
probably been more short on retailers than long. I bought some Tesco.

Anyway you can blame Derek at the spreadbet seminar.

They were on a dip, looked like some support. It also looks to have upped its game. It says prices are going up 5% and I wonder whether it thinks people will just stump up without a fuss.

Cleverly though maybe it's a bit sinister but it's offering massive discounts on high margin
items if you use its loyalty card.

Methinks it thinks there is gold in the data provided on you and so is pretty much blackmailing its customers with huge discounts especially on booze.

I saw some scotch £39 but £20 to card customers.

It might just end up being the supermarket winner this year and I'll give it a bit of leeway.

I did ask my broker if I could get three Tescos shares for the price of two, but no luck.

I added a few more Bloomsbury as an average up.

Its trading statement on Jan 26th was very strong and it seems happy with its
acquisition recently which expands its presence in north America.

It should be quite a nice defensive share to hold if there is a downturn - be interesting
to see whether it can break through the 400p mark which seems a stumbling block.

I did wonder whether Bloomsbury could end up being a bid target itself?

I was wondering considering it can be picked up for under £400m someone like Future could snap it up - £400m for Future would be peanuts and be a great acquisition. Just thinking and
obviously total speculation. (I have to say that just in case you think I know anything
and I really don't.)

The I Chronicle covered BMY today with a decent article.

Oh, today is also the day it puts out a list of tiny illiquid penny shares which go up 25% before anyone can buy.

Beware of getting caught up in buying illiquid shares with huge spreads already up 25% without doing any research.

It doesn't seem to matter how decent a statement a company puts out, shares almost
always go down on the day of a report!

It is very frustrating for especially longer-term shareholders. In the end, if you think you have a quality company value will out and often it can be worth holding on.

I guess markets just take profits now on results days whatever!

One example is K3C, a long-term hold for me which produced excellent results, looks cheap but went down on results.

The flipside is if you like a share, results are decent and they drop on results wait a couple
of days and pick some up on the weakness.

For example you can now get K3C cheaper than a few days ago - and if you can get quality at a discount, eventually the profits should come in. K3C is near the top of my list of potential bid targets this year.

Network International came up at the seminar as a potential short. I liked the look of it
as a short, we couldn't get on with Spreadex but did with IG.

It's been continually falling yet it still seems overvalued for the fundamentals on show
and it has some debt.

There seems little sign in a recovery even on risk on market days so for now looks like a decent short idea.

I love going to the cinema. There is nothing like it.

We go to the very swish and amazing Olympic cinema in Barnes which is wonderful and walking distance from us.

Used to where artists like the Rolling Stones would record and rehearse. Lots of lovely food and posh snacks and huge seats and all that.

I remember the last time I went to a Cineworld which was a huge one in Hammersmith I
think about 5 years ago before it got knocked down.

It was a total fleapit, you needed a good shower to get the fleas off on arriving home.

But I liked it as you pretty much had the whole place to yourself.

The film by the way was Frozen. I went with my then 11-12 year oldish son.

We stood it for 45 minutes before making a run for it. I hadn't researched that it was a film about princesses for young girls.

The music - arrgggghhhh!

Which long ramble means I have shorted Cineworld.

Which is a shame but this is business nothing personal.

I hope it survives but the debt is just enormous. I was a holder of the shares a few years back, I thought it looked good value then.

But some bad acquisitions and of course covid and various other troubles leave it in a parlous state.

I know people are going back but with Netflix et all I think it will continue to struggle.

A bust would not be surprising but hopefully a new chain will arise from the ashes. Only a small short as it could easily rise short-term with covid restrictions lifting.

There seems to be more people interested in shorting than there used to be so probably if you are attending online at the beginners/improvers seminar on March 2nd I'll spend a bit more time on learning how to short and finding shorts than I've done before. If you are coming you will get a questionaire from me nearer the time can you mention you want shorting covered as it helps me decide how much time to devote to this topic.

I sold two thirds of my Begbies for a decent profit of £ 3,130 and £2,880

So total profit £6,010 for the site.

My reason is they just don't for now want to go much above 130 where they always
meet with sellers.

So I think the market is telling me for now they are the near the
top end of its valuation.

Overall shorts are doing better than longs at the moment though no particular disasters.

I think it remains a tricky time and caution has to be the watchword and having some cash
on the side might be wise for now.

It's pretty difficult to decide which shares to hold onto and which to cut in market turmoil.

In the end it can be profitable to hold onto the quality ones and cut anything where you think
it isn't quality.

Good luck with any trading - certainly is not easy at the moment.

I use Interactive Investor for my sipp and it is pretty decent. It has a refer a friends thing, so you'd get £125 off its fees and I would get £200 into my account. Seems like a win win, but only applies to isa or standard trading accounts of £10k plus.

So, if you wanna be my friend, mail me and will tell you how to get the discount.

If you want to be my lover, then you gotta get with my friends first. Got it?

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does: https://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
