NEW: Spreadbetting Seminar Feb 9th
Learn how to go short in a down market - make money in a crash.

Done a couple of these online and one at the hotel and really enjoyed them.
This for both total beginners to spreadbetting and improvers or those who want to do more spreadbetting after perhaps having dabbled. I will try and teach all I've learned over the 22 years I have been spreadbetting. I love it and bought a house from mainly SB profits!

Covered: How to do it, staking, margins, the pitfalls, the firms and their strengths and weaknesses, index trading, range trades. How to use Sb like an isa. How to short and make money from bad shares and or a market crash. Also sb bosses will take questions live. And we will try and do one or two trade ideas live. I would expect you to be aware of how to invest already - the idea is this adds an extra new tool. Not covered: Crypto, forex, day trading.

If interested mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "spreadbetting interested" in the subject line.

FOLLOW UP March 9th

Another year done! I hope to help some of you whose resolutions are to make
money on the markets this year next week at the first online seminar of the year.

Let's all resolve when some of us meet online next Wednesday to be cautious in the markets but still find ways to make money from them.

Those of you attending the online seminar on Wednesday should be getting a questionaire over the weekend. Be grateful if you could fill up and return as it gives me a better idea of who's coming and what we will cover.

An interesting time in the markets so at the very least you should come away with some decent trade ideas!

Don't forget Elizabeth will be handling the all day chat forum so bung questions through to me and will deal with them. Hope you all enjoy a day with me and live markets, who knows where they will take us.

There is a little space left so if you're a beginner or improver and want to spend the day with me on Wednesday drop me a mail for details. **Event now sold out, new date March 2, see above**

My resolutions this year are to start smoking, try drugs and do no exercise. Only
managed one of those so far. I must do better!

For younger readers some advice for the new year - when you are say in your
20s you think life isn't short! But the years go by in a blink so I say - make the
most of everything and if you think I'll do that tomorrow do it today.

If you feel like taking a risk with something career wise, take it! I was making
a packet in my full-time job but took the risk of going it on my own. Thank goodness
I did.

If you have a passion for something go for it! Never let fear of the unknown get to you.

Be strong, get out there, and make that money!

My first visit to the dentist for two years. Hard to get an appointment, the queue was
6 weeks.

I turn up right on time and had a nice chat with the two receptionists banging on about
how come I hadn't had the virus yet, how annoying it must be for them to wear masks
all day and generally being irritatingly way too chatty.

I realised they were staring at me in an odd way though. Once they could get a word
in they asked: "What can we do for you?"

"Robbie Burns," I proclaimed. "Appointment with Angela."

They consulted the computer. "Angela is off today because your appointment is tomorrow."

Arrrggghhh! I asked them if it was possible to pretend I'd never come in, they'd never
seen me and delete it from memory.

While they agreed, I'm pretty glad not to hear whatever they said about me after I left with
tail between my legs.

Next day, the right day I come in, all quiet and not chatty this time.

"Sorry," says reception. "Angela is off sick today, didn't you get our text?"

Bugger, I know there is a phone somewhere, probably back of the sofa needing a
charge.

Time for me to slink away from reception for the second time in two days. I bet they
think I'm a nutjob.

I'm back in - I think - on Jan 29th. Let's hope I don't get toothache before then.

Is it just possible we are close to the end of worrying about the virus? Can we now
just learn to live with it gradually?

I got my booster just before Xmas. So well organised at Queen Mary Hospital in
Roehampton.

Just a short queue, well managed. Booster done quickly, short wait after and done.
Whole thing took 30 minutes. Lovely staff and volunteers makes you realised most
people are lovely and decent.

I got a sore arm for a couple of days and nothing much else though obviously I
played it to get lots of tea made for me.

Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!

.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

A psycho squirrel went nuts and attacked 21 people over three days.

This is familiar to me! In the USA a while back I was chased by a bad tempered
squirrel. It locked eyes with me and ran directly at me, chased me round a couple
of cars and I ended up fleeing into a hotel reception area.

So I suggest beware of squirrels, they might look cute - but they can suddenly
turn on you, don't stand up to them - run for it ! They're monsters..

I know a lot of people now who've had Omnicrum or whatever and they all report it was
a whole lot of nothing, just a bad cold.

We're going to have to lose the fear of it and start to live more normally. Or else we
are really in trouble.

Who's had enough of news about Boris J? Where is the surprise, everyone knows he is
a blagger and that's why he was voted in. People like politicians who are themselves and
not pretending to be something else.

His dad's the same, it runs in the family. Just as charismatic, dad was on the CH4 show
"Hunted" where he was supposed to be on the run with a young celebrity.

Dad Boris drives into a garage and is warned by young celebrity not to use his credit card
as this would obviously be spotted.

Dad said basically sod it let's do it anyway, we'll be ok. Of course they were immediately
hunted down. So I suggest blame dad for passing on blagger and sod it instincts. I wonder if
he's had a few parties?

Dragons Den (****)

A brand new Dragon, Stephen brings a bit of new youth and vigour. It was fun to see
him putting Peter's nose out of joint with a big undercutting offer on a promising cheese
business. Peter seems a bit annoyed and jealous which makes for entertainment.

It seems as if the dragons are only really making offers on likely massive growth cos than
the more home-spun things. Which makes half the pitches a bit tedious like the guy who
made a small invention no-one would obviously buy. But it's worth watching for the other
pitches where they've already got funding. The company I invested in myself from the
last series - Homethings - is currently going well and hoping to cash in on those if it
gets listed on the stock market in 3-4 years.

The Apprentice (***) BBC1

Yes, Lord Sir Alan loves being on TV and here we go again. Of course by now we
all know it isn't a business show. It's reality TV and the participants are more interested
in getting a TV career than being in business plus you have to be a total arse to make it
onto the show. Surely if accepted as a contestant it confirms you're a total plonker.

Shame Claude is missing in action as new sidekick Mr Campbell is a touch dull. Our newest
brightest business brains decided it was a great idea not to put the name of your company
with a logo which looked like a giant turd. Plenty of entertainment in this first episode though
Lord Sir Alan should stop relying on the terrible scriptwriter's hoary old jokes. The references
in the jokes are so old the contestants just look puzzled.

Mandy (****) BBC2

Just lovely comedy. Deborah Meaden makes a real fun appearance as an ego ridden version
of herself in a piss take of who do you think you are. It shows the BBC is still capable of
making a comedy that is actually funny. Lots of lovely lines and some hilarious digs at
northeners who I am sure can take it on the chin.

The Tourist (***) BBC 1

Bizarre Aussie drama (comedy too?). Bit of a hoary idea how many plots use amnesia?
I can't remember but probably a lot. It's quirky and Fargoish but with that you've got to
ignore the many plot holes.

It's seems worth it for the mystery, the outback landscape and unknown actors. I do just
wonder if it is at times just too derivative and will try too hard for the quirkyness.

Limitless (***) ITV

Ant and Dec have been searching for a decent gameshow format and at last they've got one.
Nice format which could have been better with a little less complexity on the electronic scoreboard.

I've always thought a guessing numbers format would be great as you could use an educated guess on any question. I suspect though I will watch the rest using fast forward as with all these formats there is a lot of wasted "tension" time. Anyhow looks a hit for ITV which given
I own a lot of shares, I am not complaining.

Four Lives (****) BBC 1
Dramatisation of an odd killer of gay escorts. Very well done with some super performances.

Strange to think it's all mainly true. Stephen Merchant is terrific as the cold
oddball killer.

Screws (****) Ch4

No, this show is not about sex! It feels a little odd at first, is it a comedy or drama? Is this really what a prison is like? Life looks a bit too easy. But it's very entertaining but might be
reasonably true to life. One point made here is if you recruit officers on small money is it
surprising there are so many drugs inside given the big rewards open to "screws" to smuggle
them in?

All I know is if I ever end up in jail I'll be trading cigarettes. Probably I'll get a tattoo on my head to make me look hard ! I am not shoving anything up my bum for anyone though.

Our team Fulham has just beaten another team 7-0 again though the other team seemed
to resemble a kids sunday league team that I have to watch every week.

If you think we are worldbeaters coming in Feb is an away cup game against Man City.

This could be 7-0 again - it's just the 7 will be going the other way.

The Pope reckons those not having children and having cats instead are selfish.

Wow. This coming from a bloke who hasn't had children.

I reckon if he had a nice pussy purring on the bed now, he'd change his mind.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

A brand new markets year - have you made any market resolutions?

Did you figure after last year it's best to have an exit plan? Maybe a stop?

Or did you think "I bloody hate the

markets and I am never buying a share again,
the whole thing is a mug's game."

Despite doing this full-time for more than 20 years I get this sometimes too when it goes wrong.

"Right, that is IT" you think. I am quitting and going to clean windows for a living instead, get out there in the open air. Live a real life instead of watching numbers go up and down for no reason."

Only thing that's stopped me becoming a window cleaner is I'm scared of heights so I could only window clean bungalows which would cut out a lot of potential profit.

I personally remain a bit cautious for the markets this year as there are various things that could gang up to make a black swan event.

Worries around include rampant inflation, wars, China, covid. Well, perhaps covid fears are slipping a bit but inflation worries are there.

But despite these worries indicies at least seem to show little fear.

In its statement Next said it was going to have to put up prices. Indeed likely this year prices are going up for everything and at some point the powers that be will have to put up interest rates.

This could cause a lot of trouble and perhaps even a house price downturn. After all house prices are completely nuts. In the posh area I live in (thanks IG and Spreadco!) if you want to buy slightly bigger just an extra bedroom would set you back a million.

And how much longer can house prices be so detached from real wages? All this could be what sets off a market slump. The bull case is as we come out of covid there will be tons of
pent up spending, that could be right too!

There perhaps seems to be a little gung ho spirit among investors/traders which is always worrying.

There was a bit of a Xmas/early new year rally so it was just about possible to make something from the Santa rally but it started very late this year and if you went in too early you could have lost. I made
a bit on it but nothing to celebrate this time round. Best bet would have been to leave xmas rally bets into the new year for what could have been a bigger payoff.

If there is a crash this year, one way to make money on it is spreadbetting shorts, whether shares, the FTSE or the Dow. If you want to learn how to do this, join me for an online spreadbetting seminar on Feb 9th, email for details.

I suspect we will see a lot of volatility this year as we lurch from covid optimism to inflation fears so expect a dysfunctional market for a while. This will make it probably harder to make a few quid.

Indeed this week the volatility has been mad. One day fear the next positivity.

However it will benefit the spreadbet firms so I added IG Group to the CMC Markets I bought before Xmas. If the market shakes around a lot it brings in a lot of speculations and so tons of profit for the spreadbet firms. There was little volatility towards the end of last year so they suffered. This year could be their year.

IG looks in pretty good shape and recently made a big acquisition. It's the mother of the spreadbet firms, it does isas and sipps too. Assuming volatility continues could be a good start to the year.

Recent listings have been terrible, usually well over-valued. However there is one that's just
been listed that I have taken an initial small position on.

It is the oddly named "Facilities by ADF" (ADF). It has a massive share in the market of hiring
trailers and equipment for the film and TV industry.

I think I saw some of their trailers when the local park area by the river was shut off for filming the latest James Bond movie.

Given its already massive share in the UK it's looking to grow into Europe by mainly acquiring
others and that's where growth could come in. It also seems to have a good relationship with
some of the top players in the market.

So the market cap looks reasonable, it makes a profit though not a lot but you could project
into the future and consider profits could jump in time.

My thought for now is I've bought a few for the isa, the idea for a long-term hold with possibility of adding more if it continues to grow and it could turn out to be a nice isa tuckaway, see how it goes. It's also one of those nice under the radar shares.

I mentioned before Xmas I was about to have another bash at Gattaca GATC and I did buy some as I said last time it did begin to look very undervalued (given one has to assume there aren't any skeletons rattling about).

So far with this one I've taken some big profits and some smaller
losses so this feels like extra time, let's see if wins on this can trump losses say 3-1.

Gatc

really does seem mighty cheap especially considering other recruiters are doing so well
with very positive statements this week. I'd have thought a re-rating back up to 200p would
be reasonable.

I bought some Spire SPI - you may remember made many thousands on this a while back when I saw how busy they were when I went in for a steroid injection (which didn't work). There was also a bid but that fell through but I was already out with a nice profit.

You may have read this week that it's one of a number of private providers that could help
out should covid overwhelm the NHS. And with more like me paying for treatment the self
pay market has increased.

If you consider also the real estate Spire is probably worth more than the current market
cap and it could make a nice solid hold with perhaps bid potential coming in again this year. Though for now it struggles to get above 250.

I thought it was time to get a bit of exposure to the travel industry and the likelihood of recovery this year for airlines and holiday companies. My mind was made up when the mrs and her sister booked a flight to Rome for a day or two of sightseeing later this month.

Admission: I hardly ever buy airlines because they are impossible for me to value as there are
so many variables. So I didn't even bother trying to figure out fundamentals as I would normally instead using a spreadbet guaranteed stop loss in case of massive warnings.

I plumped for Easyjet for the airline and Jet2com for airline and holiday exposure. I have not
a clue on the fundamentals of either and expect the next statements for both to be dire.

But. The market looks ahead and you'd think people will be desperate to get travelling again
and assuming no new horror variant comes in and restrictions continue to ease the share
prices could take off.

So speculative for sure, but they could pay off. If sentiment changes against them I'll get out with hopefully small losses. So while speculative and ignoring my usual fundamental guidelines there seems a decent chance of recovery.

Could this at last be the year of the ITV bid? Us ITV shareholders are always hopeful! There
is so much value in the studios business and with content king, someone will look at it
this year. A bidding war could take it 200p plus. I have picked up a few more and will
hold on if I can barring a general meltdown.

An interesting one that wouldn't normally be on my radar is Harbourvest HVPE which came up at the last follow up online seminar.

It's a fund manager that seems to be rather decent. These kind of shares are valued on net asset values rather than usual kind of fundamentals.

It gives exposure to all kinds of companies like ipos and buyouts and venture capital and seems well places in both new exciting tech areas as well as the more stable established. I think it is worth a few quid longer term for the isa.

One small company that could benefit from covid relief is Time finance. TIME. It's too small for me to buy very many so just a little dip. Results are Jan 20th which makes it risky but it has been rising ahead of the statement.

It is a small specialist lender and in both its full year results and further trading statement it seems reasonably bullish but there is a caveat that covid restrictions would cause problems. Fundamentals seem decent and it's possible the lowly rating could mean a re-rating this year. I guess a little isa tuckaway but with the view to get out if problems arise.

One long-term off the radar company I hold, Science SAG made a nice trading statement today.

It has doubled ajusted profits since 2019, promises a much increased dividend and has a new
debt facility as it seems hungry for acquisitions.

SAG looks very undervalued and could have a very good 2022 Could be a lovely slow off the radar riser.

I keep my eye open for shorting opportunities as last year I made quite a bit from betting on highly valued companies to go down, for example making a lot on tanking companies like Boo Hoo, Wise, Trainline and Aston.

Given I made an awful lot in 2021 shorting the worst shares I could find I am actively looking for more of those and given 2022 could be hard work to find value why not look for the overvalued?

I came across Dechra Pharmaceuticals - this is a very decent company
and like it but... the shares look like they've been on drugs given a
valuation of nearly £5 bln on quite low forecast profits - forward pe in the high 30s and some
debt too.

While its area of supplying drugs for vets is growing and we all know people would rather spend money on the health of their pets rather than the health of actual people, the rating looks way too high so I have
shorted them (betting on them to fall for new readers).

As always with shorts the market may disagree and no intention of fighting it so if they carry on going up, I will just just take the loss. You'd have thought at some point a big drop would be justified.

I also shorted some more Aston Martin. Lovely though the cars might be the current valuation remain too high. A profits warning this week, there is no sign of a proper profit for years. Indeed when a company continues to trump "Ebita" instead of pre-tax profits just short it!

Onto some profit taking. I had a nice run on TSL, but a trailing stop got hit as it
started to come back so profits banked of a decent £5,268. Would have been a lot more
if I'd sold nearer the high but still doubled and more.

One or two did ok but seemed to run out of steam and refused to go any higher even on good market days so I withdrew. These are Central nic profit £1636, Sanderson profit £350, Argentex profit £330.

Taken some lovely profit in Team 17 including the longer term hold, profits of 1,200 and
£8,418. Just looks a tad on the high side for now.

Took part profit on Boo Hoo short banking a very tidy profit of £3.850 leaving the other position open. As I suspected
in my last update there was a profits warning. It's due for a statement any day and you'd think things still will be poor. But I thought worth banking some of the profits while still leaving one short open.

The short-term range idea in XPP I mentioned last time for a spreadbet worked well, target hit for a profit of £1,340. Be looking at how to spreadbet shorter term trading ranges in the
spreadbetting seminar online in February, mail for details if interested. It includes a live
q and a and discussion with three spreadbet bosses.

Ok so total profits banked for the website then of £22,392.

Finsbury FINS reported decent results today and remains on a low multiple - seems
to be able to pass on higher food costs and could have a good half year.

Lots of massive dividends banked over the festive season including many thousands from
Telecom Plus and a big wedge from Royal Mail. Never underestimate the power of dividends and as I mentioned before I must pick up £80k plus a year from them.

Both are going well. A reminder if you want to switch energy supplier let me know as been
a distributor for TEP for many years. As well as switching to a decent supplier, you'd
get my subscription email free for ever. Mail for details.

Elsewhere lots of profits on my short in Bitcon which has come down a long way
enabling me to put stops in at a good profit now, should just be a question of how
much profit now.

Shorts in US stocks Pelaton, Robin Hood Markets and Uber all going well.

Vertu shares are beginning a run, let's see if they can accelerate a bit more.

Where do we go from here? Who knows, but I remain in quite a lot of cash.

People have asked me if I can come up with dates more in advance for seminars so here we are:

Beginners/improvers starter seminar March 9th Spreadbetting seminar Feb 9th. Follow up/advanced March 9th.

If you would like to join me for any of those email me, more details below or above.

NEW: Spreadbetting Seminar Feb 9th

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

If you are thinking of A ftse trade try https://www.spreadco.com/nakedtrader
as their spread is the tightest at 0.8. Also very pleased with execution - FTSE cos the cheapest spreads there too.

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does: https://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
