Entertainment, fun and shares discussed with me on podcast NT5 - tune in

I was hoping to get back to at least one live event at a hotel and had been thinking about the usual Xmas follow up seminar. But in the end it looks too risky.

Things could change with more restrictions and with flu also making a comeback being in a room all day long together is probably too risky for now. And with masks making a comeback I don't fancy talking with one of those on all day.

So the follow up/advanced will be online on December 8th. Nevertheless let's make it a good one with lots of ideas for 2022.

Those of you coming to the beginner improver online seminar on Wednesday you'll be getting a questionaire over the weekend. Not compulsory but handy if you can answer some of my questions as it helps me to know what you need to know.

stop press: Nov date now sold out, new date Dec 1, see above.

I had a lovely birthday with a surprise that had me totally fooled.

I just wanted a quiet meal a deux and twas what I was expecting with a big party next year once covid is out of the way.

The Mrs had arranged a surprise as sitting there were two of my favourite people and it was a lovely evening.

Brexit however looked like it was going to cost me pudding. This restaurant always does great puddings which it makes onsite but the owner who I know told us she can't at the mo as Brexit meant it was so hard to get staff.

What a disappointment. But. My friends are actors (dahling!) and so had membership of Soho House and they suggested we went there for puddings.

So we did! And I had a very decent treacle toffee pudding, so all's well that ends well.

I made it to the James Bond movie at last and managed to hold out pretty well sitting for near three hours. A couple of gin and tonics helped alongside a whole heap of popcorn and a load of nuts.

Quite a few families there as it was half-term and teenagers simply couldn't manage with watching anything longer than 5 minutes and what! Three hours without their phones!! Impossible.

So a lot of teenagers spending a lot of time in the toilet with their phones and a lot of families leaving well early as the parents gave in and couldn't stand their teenagers moaning "how long is there left?" A review further down somewhere.

The first time I've tried to drive for a good time after the op and guess what! I get lost in New Malden - again!

My son was playing football for his team - an away game against Motspur Park. I vaguely remembered getting lost in this area the last time but assumed the new sat nav would sort it.

Guess what. By the time I'd armed the sat nav we were close to New Malden and it didn't recognise the park he was playing in. We were late as it was. By the time I realised I missed the same turning as last time and ended up goodness knows where and we were running really late. Just to make things harder you always think you found it but it always ends up being Fulham FC's training ground also called Motspur Park.

Lucky for me, my son's phone rescued us as he discovered it was in Marina Avenue. With relief we got there and he jumped out. My relief was soon back to stress as it seemed 100s of kids and parents had descended there. No parking to be found anywhere even though Marina Avenue appears to be three roads.

After trying each Marina Avenue for a parking slot I ended up back on the main road in desperate search for a space. Nothing. Anywhere. Then I thought sod it all and parked on a double yellow outside a cafe with a bloke giving me "don't park here mate" vibes inside. Waiting there as long as possible before a dash to the football fields. I didn't get a ticket and at least they won 2-0.

Next time this venue comes up, he can take the train! I am sure all this resonates with football mums and dads desperately hoping a football pitch appears and maybe, one day, there will be somewhere to park. Or of course, worse you can't find the venue at all! Still, in the end it's worth it to get kids off their phones and playing sport.

Right with that boring story out of the way...

A pleasure to meet so many of you online recently. I love the fact there is such a diversity of people. All ages and stages of life from gardeners, accountant, military, police, pilot, scaffolder. Great thing about trading is it doesn't matter who you are anyone can try it. No qualifications required which is just as well as I don't have any!

I was surprised at the amount of interest in spreadbetting and level 2 and you really quizzed the boss of a spreadbetting company! The day flew by, it was an interesting day to look at live markets and between us I think we came up with some good ideas.

If you missed the seminar as it ended up sold out have fixed the date for the next one which is November 3rd - email for me for details if you fancy a day with me and live markets.
And thanks so much for the feedback such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

If there is one positive to come out of the heart-wrenching murder of MP it is that just maybe, we can be kinder to each other?

Is is possible politicians could stop using unfair words like "scum" and try and join together more. Not everyone is bad, and many do fantastic unsung work for their constituents.

They ought to stop all the childish name calling in parliament. And generally in society we should be nice to each other.

A lot of the blame lies with social media and the ability to hide behind usernames. I think everyone should be obliged to post using their real names.

Thanks to not using social media I tend to be clear of nutjobs/trolls, people who want to have a go.

There is still the odd one full of hate (jealousy?). But amazingly only about one a year. They are always too cowardly to use their own names and of course hide behind usernames and on emailing you use made up addresses that don't give away their ID.

Worst one I got? A threatening mail which said "You will get what's coming to you" and was quite threatening though actually I had an idea of who it was. Of course the cowardly mail was sent from a made up address.

One guy was ever so nice to me on email, turns out while being pleasant to me, this same man was accusing me of all sorts of illegal activity on the bulletin boards. He didn't have the guts to mail me and accuse me directly using his real name. Two faced people are the worst.

I think on the whole most people are lovely it is a shame social media gives an outlet to those who have a nasty side, I suspect most trolls actually have low self esteem or are on steroids, drugs or alcohol. Or are just angry and unhappy with their lot.

Maybe if all social media accounts made it compulsory for you to use your real name that might help.

Lord Sir Keir Starmer got Covid so Ed Milliband was a last minute standin. And he did a surprisingly good job with some decent gags and a great delivery.

You can see what Labour is missing with such a grey leader. It will have to change for a more charismatic leader if it's going to win the next election.

Squid Game (****) Netflix

The Netflix sensation. You can see why - taking the cartoonish violence aside it is a fantastic watch. Korea is up and coming in the culture world - this follows on the success of the award winning movie Parasite. This series is a bit like a Korean "Hunger Games".

Once you realise 464 mainly extras will be shot and ok with it, then it's great entertainment with a lovely twist near the end. I preferred to watch the one with subtitles rather than dubbed which I prefer. The plot builds nicely and I am sure it would make a great "A" level English essay thing. As taking the entertainment aside it is all about the difference between the desperate in debt and those who have way too much. It's pretty awful for the soul to be either.

How great - the best drama and the best comedy around have new series.

Succession (*****) Atlantic
The superior drama continues with series three. You had to wonder whether it could carry on with such lovely sharp writing but if anything it has upped the ante featuring the most dysfunctional family since the Sopranos.

There are so many good lines throughout and it's great fun to realise the kids don't know their father never wants to pass on his company, not until he actually dies anyhow. Standout character now has to be cousin Greg who is hopelessly lost amongst the family squabbles.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (*****) Sky Comedy
For me, the funniest comedy series ever produced. The start of series 11 shows it has no sign of falling off. Over the years the only series that has had me howling with laughter. Sadly I don't think they would start making it now - the last show that has been able to take the piss out of everyone - the only one to ever dare to take the mickey out of Fatwahs.

This time round age is a problem as Larry's circle move into their 70s. His date doesn't want sex with him because he walked into a glass door. And he is being hilariously blackmailed into giving away a part in his new series with Netflix. TV executives of course are mocked mercilessly. As usual we'd expect all the various strands to build over this series. Cleverly very little on covid except for a covid hoarder being ousted. My weekly great laugh is back!

Complaints Please (*) Ch 4
I have a complaint. This is crap.

The Long Call (*) ITV
Or a short call for me. Ok it is an ITV drama so I was expecting show homes that in real life those with the jobs they have could never afford them. But I only lasted till the third break. It is just a poor ripoff of Broadchurch. Dull characters, I didn't care why whoever it was got killed and I thought I can't be bothered to waste any further time on it.

No Time To Die (***) Cinemas
After all the great reviews I was looking forwards to the new James Bond but I was a little disappointed. Fantastic filming and great explosions as always but for me there was something lacking. It was hard to buy the love bits but worse was the terribly dull baddie who was a cardboard cutout with no real reason to want to kill half the world.

Plot doesn't really matter but it made little sense and the much better baddie Spectre was stuck in jail. As a bit of exciting cinema it's great but on a smaller TV screen I wouldn't bother. It was also very long and could easily have 30 mins cut out without losing much.

Most contrived email subject line of the week sent to me:
"Barclays - Barc-ing up the right tree."

Anyone with any dealings with Barclays would disagree with that.

What a great new idea to get activists off the roads - one bloke got out his bagpipes and started playing in front of them to get them to move.

How about using this as a way to clear prisons of minor offenders? Instead of putting them behind bars they have to endure "Bagpipe Time".

Say instead of being sentenced to a year taking up taxpayers money and being trained by others on how to become an even bigger offender, they get say 100 hours of bagpipe time.

Say ten hours a day over ten days in a small room with a bagpiper. I reckon I can guarantee they will never offend again.

Apparently instagram et all went off air for a few hours.

The upside was that kids and teens actually talked to their parents for the first time since they were given a phone.

Although I do hear the only thing they said was:

"Mum/Dad why isn't insta working?"

Still, it's a start.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

The more the markets seem strong the more wary I feel - it does seem like a big fall is overdue but however bad the forward news is there seems little downward pressure but it could happen anytime.

Trouble is when markets are a bit complacent that's when something major happens out of the blue, everyone tries to sell at the same time and there is a collapse. For some reason there continues to be a lot of confidence about with the US markets providing staggering upside which doesn't seem supported by any reasonable valuation metric.

And though the main markets seem fine they aren't in reality - the US markets are held up by a very small number of massive weight shares and the FTSE by the top 4 or 5 heavyweights which are really not UK companies at all.

A lot of small caps and mid caps have been hit and if you are in the wrong ones and don't use stop losses quite big losses could have been racked up. Never consider a share as to "hold forever" - get out if the going gets tough.

Think of it as if the going gets tough, the tough get going. Hmm, could make a good song lyric don't you think.

There are a lot of decent companies getting hit with logistics trouble.

So, still happy with a recent sell off I made and sticking with a decent amount of cash for now. (£500,000 ish). Doesn't mean to say I won't be buying anything it is just that I proceed with continued caution.

I keep eyeing up a short of the indices but nothing much doing there yet. Would rather short when it is more obvious something is going to move it a lot lower so even the heavyweights will get hit.

Amazon missed estimates last night which is interesting. Facebook is changing its name to Meta. You can imagine the many lengthy meetings to discuss this. Bet they were meta meetings.

The budget was really a whole lot of nothing much for traders. Something about 7p on a bottle of wine and 10p off Prosecco. Anyhow we are all too distracted on how Richi gets into that suit, and even eats Twix and drinks Sprite. It just isn't fair.

Centralnic CNIC was a company we discussed at the last advanced seminar. I ummed and ahhed a little bit (I am good at that) and bought a few.

It's a global domain name provider and it also helps companies to monetise from the assets. Its next trading statement should be decent with revenue and profits booming anf it is also buying up complementary companies.

Downside for me is the net debt is only just under what I am comfortable with though the debt is gradually reducing.

It's an interesting idea and a potential nice one to hold in an isa while it.. proves it has potential.

I bought some Sanderson Design. SDG. It is often worth looking at companies which have sold off despite a good statement on profit taking. Wait a week or two then buy as long as you are sure it's a decent company and it isn't a profit warning.

This one makes luxury interior furnishings - the type you see in the current ITV dramas.
Would you believe it, it actually makes things in the UK! Amazing! It has factories producing fabrics and wallpaper. Here!!

After a torrid 2020 it has come back with all fabrics blazing - trading is reported as strong and the return of a small dividend. It also has a nice pile of net cash. It isn't all plain sailing - it mentions some supply chain issues but it looks in a strong position coming into the best part of the year.

Taking all into account including net cash after the sell off which looked well overdone it looks mighty cheap and I'd be looking for a return to highs in time. Of course, as always I spent hours and hours on my technical analysis ** before buying.

**"TA is mainly total bollocks" - Robbie Burns 2019

After profit taking a while back I've bought Lucedo (LUCE) which is big in LED lighting

It went up way too high recently which is when I sold but then seemed to totally overshoot on the downside.

It is back on the rise with a third quarter update pleasing the market, it thinks it can pass on higher costs soon. There are a few supply problems though and so it may struggle to reach the previous high it could at least get back up and over 400p.

Royal Mail (RMG) begins to look interesting again after it fell quite a way. Rising costs and a labour squeeze pushed the shares down some way recently however there might now be a case for buying.

This week various peers like United Parcels and Deutche Post reported better than expected earnings thanks to strong online demand. That doesn't seem to be stopping. I've also had an Amazon parcel delivered by Royal Mail.

It has good support at 400p but I would quit fast with a loss if it starts heading into the 300s. It is risky as part of the FTSE it could fall heavily if there is a general selloff.

I took a loss of £388 on Argentex after I'd raised up the stop and then bought them back a day later. A tough one this one as it is so volatile with the shares moving about based on small volumes on the order book. I chatted about this one in the last update. As in the book I only ever give three goes at buying something retreating. So it has one more shot after this only!

Entain became a buy again the moment Draftkings decided not to bid. It's because the shares were already priced in that the bid wouldn't go ahead. You could imagine at some point a bid having to be over 3000p and I think it might simply be a question of holding Entain now for as long as it takes for more action.

So, I kept the Entain I had and bought some more.

I also topped up with more Watches of Switzerland which hasn't taken much time to carry on rising.

But, the clock is ticking away on its next statement which is on Nov 9th. So my cunning plan is probably to take some or maybe all profits the day or two before on the basis I have discussed before - if a share has had a brilliant run it can fall on statement day even on a good report as people can't help banking profits or do the "buy the rumour, sell the news" idea.

I shorted Wise - which I hope will prove a wise move. I've never really seen how its valuation so far has ever made any sense so it was quite an easy short.

This new listing looked overvalued from the start and the founder hastily selling shares already is not a good look - same thing happened when the Trainline founders (I am short) got out as soon as they could.

There are one or two shares that look a bit weak or not doing much and a bit of umming as to whether to ruthlessly cut.

Ince went for a loss of £1,080 and should have been cut earlier, gave it too much rope and ignored my own rules. So serves me right, na na. However it has just bought Arden which looks a good fit and at a much lower price looks great value now. Shares got suspended due to a technicality, once back trading I'd be tempted to get in low. It will get Arden's £3m net cash and the two combined could look excellent value and I think I will buy in after the shares trade again.

QQ latest position went for a loss of £340 . Sometimes averaging up doesn't work and the tl got hit. After a disappointing statement shares have come back, though I suspect overshot to the downside and once they have found support I'll buy those back.

I've taken profits on a couple that seem to have been in the isas for ages and don't seem to have hit stops yet for some reason I stopped looking at them. It can happen when you have a lot of shares like I have to for diversification.

So. profits of £2,150 taken on Ramsdens and £2,930 taken on omg.

Sureserve has risen nicely after the market caught on that the future looks bright - the green revolution push will really help this company and it keeps winning contracts.

Gattaca is on the rise again and continues to look on the cheap side - this is one which could get back to its recent highs of near 300p.

Telecom Plus rises well. Trading as Utilities Discount Warehouse it is one of just three companies you could still switch to a price capped tariff according to Martin Lewis. The rise in wholesale gas prices does not affect it financially indeed should help as lots of customers looking for a new home. With good quality service and people also add broadband, sim, mobiles, insurance it looks a winner out of the situation.

November is often a very poor month on the markets so I would suggest caution and only buy something if you are really keen and think it will be higher in, say February.

I've been asked a lot the last couple of years about Sharepad/Sharescope and whether it is worth subscribing. I ignored all the mails thinking "can't be bothered".

But at last have given it a go and like it. I think I will run it alongside the brilliant stockopedia.

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

If you are thinking of A ftse trade try https://www.spreadco.com/nakedtrader
as their spread is the tightest at 0.8. Also very pleased with execution - FTSE cos the cheapest spreads there too.

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does: https://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
