Thanks so much to all of you who attended last week's online event. Such a wide variety of people. I love that.
Any occupation was there! Dentist, pilot, scaffolder, self-employed, gardener, you name it we are all one.
Thanks for the feedback so far and apologies for the notes ending up in weird spam folders, I re-sent on word so hopefully you all have them. If you missed that one, there is a new one round the corner, December 1 and of course I will add a look at how to play a potential santa rally. robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec interested" in the subject line for details.
I generally hate driving and not bothered about cars. The Mrs however has a grand Lexus hybrid which I do drive sometimes mainly to take the lad to football games.
I do own a car which I bought new in 1998 - a BMW Z3 - a blue one, the same model as driven by Pierce Brosnan no less in a Bond movie in 1996.
I mainly just used it to drive to the hotel when I was doing seminars and the odd little drive in the summer, nice with the roof off. Around 2,000 miles a year and with 50,000 on the clock it looks like that is about the average.
But since the hip op, lockdown and not going to the hotel for the time being I haven't used it for more than a year and declared it off road and it sits in an underground car park sadly sitting there. It would probably have remained there for much longer but I am about to lose that space.
I then thought, oh well, it's an old banger not worth anything and as it doesn't have an mot and the battery's flat the least hassle would be to get someone to come round, take it away and scrap it and I was about to agree a scrap value with a firm of £500.
But then a friend said "Are you crazy, second hand car values are through the roof plus your car has only done 50,000 miles."
So I had a look online and goodness me. Same model as mine, same mileage - £9,000 - what the hell? Though it looked in showroom condition.
Given mine has some scratches here and there and it needs the mot and all that my friend reckoned it could cost £1-2k to get it showroom ready. He pointed out it was a sought after manual drive, it had an electric roof and leather interior in good nick.
So what to do? Temptation is just to sell it to someone who will take it away and make a few quid doing it up.
Or, it would easily pass an mot. I could put a new battery in, do the mot, maybe tart it up a touch then sell it.
Or, I could even just keep it - but then every time I use it where I live in London it would cost £12.50 a time on the new environment charge thing. But I lost my underground space so it would be in the open, open to the elements.
Hmm. What to do. I do still like it but maybe just time to cash in. I'll let you know, I have four weeks to decide...
Maybe I should get a panel of experts together to decide, hey that sounds like a new TV show format. (If anyone wants to make me an offer ...)
I just discovered what it must be like to suffer casual racism.
I just couldn't help it. I wandered into a local restaurant I'd never gone into as it looked terrible.
Wow. The food was sensational. Then tried a sunday roast. Epic! Great food but hardly anyone ever in there. I had to have some words with the owner,
"You do great roasts with free range meat and no sign outside? How does anyone know?" I asked. Same re the terrific burgers. And other stuff. I had to help.
Every week I would go round, order and suggest more improvements. I ran a successful cafe business for years, I can see what she is going wrong. "You get three seconds of someone's attention as they walk by your place," I argued. You need a board out there with the right words.
Anyhow, she took my thoughts about a sandwich board promoting the roasts and it worked! She got much busier. The only thing is I don't want it to get too busy in case I can't get a seat.
But. She's Mongolian and so is her husband but she reckons she looks Japanese which she does.
She says literally sometimes people come in wanting the roast, but take one look at her and walk out!
Why? She reckons it is pure food racism. They think because she is Japanese the roast would be terrible.
How screwed up is that?
A pleasure to meet so many of you online recently.
I was surprised at the amount of interest in spreadbetting and level 2 and you really quizzed the boss of a spreadbetting company! The day flew by, it was an interesting day to look at live markets and between us I think we came up with some good ideas.
If you missed the seminar as it ended up sold out have fixed the date for the next one which is December 1 which will include how to play the Santa Rally - email for me for details if you fancy a day with me and live markets.
And thanks so much for the feedback such as this from Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!
Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.
"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."
Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.
Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.
"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.
Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:
"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.
I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.
I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....
.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"
Naked Rambling
She had no problems with the first two jabs but was really laid low by the booster. She got breathing problems, flu symptoms and was out of it for a week. And I don't believe anything else has ever hit her like this.
But she is getting over it now. I guess it is best to choose a week you can afford to have symptoms in.
On the positive side, I have two much older lady friends, one of 77 and one 89 and they had their booster jabs without much bother. Being a coward, I take heart from that.
Seems once you are a known football manager however crap you are, millions will be yours in payoffs.
Another sackload of sackings including Aston Villa, Norwich, Barnsley and Middlesbrough.
Once sacked with a big payoff, just a few weeks later you get a job somewhere else. Then screw up, sacked, another payoff!
I wonder whether a lot of it is pure luck on which players you have and what kind of mood they are in.
My method of management would be: "Get out there lads... make sure you score some goals and don't let any in."
I want to get my hands on whoever idiots designed the new sky Q remote controls. They suck! I want my old Sky remote back. We want our old controls back. When do we want them back? Now!
Showtrial (****) BBC1
Highly entertaining whodunnit featuring a superbly irrititaing young entitled rich kid. Did she or didn't she get someone murdered? I guess she probably didn't hey but maybe the twist is.. she did. Whatever it is an entertaining loads of cobblers. Probably an insignicant character from episode 3 wot dunnit.
Dr Who (**) BBC1
Let's face it, this has been terrible since Eccleston left. There's way too much going on, too much enemy. Then that boring comedian who is everywhere popped up. To be fair I only lasted 15 minutes - shouldn't this just be labelled a kids show now and go out on Cbeebies? Bring back Tom Baker!
Succession (*****) Atlantic
The superior drama continues. This week's episode was all about power dynamics. Could Logan and Kendall persuade a big investor they could work things out?
Some superb filming and sharp lines but best of all were the silences between father and son as they were forced to walk together. Even for the sake of keeping control of the company they couldn't manage it.
This has to be the best series ever about power and dysfunction in rich families.
Curb Your Enthusiasm (*****) Sky Comedy
Well that was the best drama. The best comedy continues.
You really couldn't get much funnier than who sits in the middle at a dinner party.
The "middles" have to be the most entertaining. If you get the most boring the whole thing falls apart. If you are having a dinner do, put your funniest guests both sides in the middle. And we had the worst actress ever. Priceless.
Temple (****) Sky Max
This should be awful. Surgeon goes bad giving surgery to baddies under Temple Station but somehow the lead Mark Strong carries it off. Some good support too. You have the buy into the slightly mad premise they can get away with the things that happen. There are also some funny lines around too. This is series two so you ought to watch series 1 first I guess.
The Tower (****) ITV
This is a kind of more realistic Line of Duty plus three quick episodes and you are done!
At last an ITV drama without the empty show homes. It was written by someone who was a detective in the force so that's where the realism comes from.
Interesting re how casual racism comes about and this explores that well. Also well explored is how uncomfortable it is being an outsider coming in to investegate wrongdoing. I haven't seen it all yet but so far, so decent.
Any baldies out there want to join my Bald rebellion campaign?
It is everywhere, New drama on BBC? First scene "Hi, baldie," Second scene: "Hi Cue Ball."
The script couldn't say "Hi fatface" or "hi uglyfcuk"
There is discrimination everywhere. The bad guys in a series? All bald. The good guys? Loads of hair. Will the next James Bond be bald? Not a chance. Would Boris be PM without hair? No way.
Anyhow us baldies are going to rise up and glue our heads to motorways until we get some respect.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Details from me at robbiethetrader@aol.com please
put "Dec sem interested" in the subject line.
There is a new episode of the "Naked money" podcast. A series where I teach a novice trader how to do it and
every week we pick a share.
Podcast no 5 is ready!
https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/nt5/
Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money, plus a £100 competition, top tens, spot the intros, nostalgia corner and loads of laughs. Plus experienced investors have tips for beginners and investment ideas - settle down and spend
some time with the Naked Trader!
The current complacency continues. Markets both here and in the US continue to climb.
Any of the many possible problems out there are ignored for now.
I stay firmly in lots of cash. It still feels to me that this is the equivalent of 2007. Of course who knows though, maybe I'm too cautious.
At the online seminar last week I was doing some screens for new shares and the one that kept popping up on a few screens was ITV.
So we did a lot of research on it and it seemed on all angles very undervalued. So I bought some live on the day and we did a trading plan, when to exit if there was a share price downturn etc.
Well, that paid off as yesterday a very confident statement was produced with profits back over 2019 levels.
One thing to also enjoy while waiting for the long waited for bid is the very large dividend of 5% plus. Bit more than you'd get in the bank. I am going to stay with ITV unless it really starts to sink again. My guess is any bid will have to be well over the 200p mark.
I bought some I Energiser today (IBPO) on cracking results. I have held these for some time, picking up not only capital gains but also some huge dividends (one special one a while back where I remember getting something crazy like £15,000 dividend).
Lots of positives from today including hugely increased profit. But what is interesting is it is expanding with lots of new contract wins in different area. One area that could provide future earnings is the online learning market in the US which is growing substantially. Although boosted by covid, it looks like in the states at least remote learning continues to grow.
I've managed to buy this on DMA in the past getting the sell price but no such luck today as the shares were in too much demand. So basically added some more and hold long-term to enjoy more hopeful growth and the dividends. Downside? Because no-one ever seems interested in this one, spreads can widen when there is no interest.
It goes ex dividend for a nice 8.6p on 25th of November.
Upgs I flagged it was going to update to those of you who get the email and given it had gone down so much on logistics fears I bought some before the statement. Sadly for me I didn't have the courage (what a wimp!) to buy in size.
The statement seemed to show things weren't as bad as some feared and the shares have been running up. See previous updates for comments on this one but it seems like a very decent company that's well managed.
I added some more Centralnic CNIC - did this live at the online seminar as I was trying to explain how to use DMA and managed to get some at the then sell price which saved me the spread of 3 points. (Come to the Dec 1 seminar to show you how it is done).
Centralnic CNIC was a company we discussed at the last advanced seminar. So that's two positions I have in it now.
It's a global domain name provider and it also helps companies to monetise from the assets. Its next trading statement should be decent with revenue and profits booming and it is also buying up complementary companies. Potential lovely isa long-termer.
Gattaca - GATC I bought some more! The volatility just shows how careful you have to be with smallish smallcaps. Anything about £60m cap can move on small trades in a crazy way, also very hard to get in and out of so I now rarely have anything around that level.
I didn't have an auto stop and with so many positions I missed a sudden fall. When I saw it eventually I thought "This price is too cheap given in particular the net cash" so rather then quitting I bought more at the lower price. Seems to me this one perhaps once speculators are out should resume calmer waters.
Thinksmart TSL has been an amazing share for me and nearly trebled on the ones I bought a while back.
You know I like average upping so have bought some more even though I have bought much higher.
It has been transformed by its clearpay holding and benefits from the buy now pay later attitude of some millenialls. It throws off cash and keeps returning it to shareholders with another special dividend coming in December. Potential for further rises here.
Hill and Smith HILS seems to be one of those nice steady shares ignored by private traders - of course who wants nice and steady, they want risky and racey. Came up on one of the screens at the seminar last week.
This incredibly boring share does some useful things though, like stuff companies need to mend roads. If you can't sleep, then why not go on its website and read about all the incredibly dull things it does?
Myself and the online delegates all liked what we saw though we didn't spend too long on it as we wanted to stay awake and I bought some live. Idea is simply to keep holding maybe for a couple of years unless there is a market smashdown.
I can hardly believe the valuation of some of the US shares. One such is Uber. 56 BILLION dollars and it makes a giant loss and no prospect of a profit anytime soon.
I read in the uk a lot of people have stopped using Uber due to price surging and lots of drivers have given up trying to make a living out of it. I know it also has Uber Eats and the rest of it but can they really pull out decent margins?
We now know there was no way the low prices could continue There are a lot of stories of people now waiting for an Uber for over an hour. Personally I hate what they've done and will continue to pay more for black cabs. Uber is going to raise rates for drivers to try and win them back.
And what about all the new competition?
Well, anyway I have tried a short on it but realise US stocks are bonkers for now and crazy traders can continue to lift a share price that bears no resemblance to any kind of real valuation. So there's a stop on it. But the price on this one looks bonkers. If there is a crash in the states this one will be one of the many to get hammered.
Bitcoin carries on with its crazy advance. Thanks to the naked money podcast where I and Radio X DJ Steve pick shares for an isa together a while back he picked the US share Coinbase which people use to trade bitcoin. At least it actually makes proper cash profits.
I thought time we had a bit of risk to that portfolio so we bought some and I bought some as a spreadbet. I am currently £10,000 in profit! However I have moved the stop into profit and as it seems to trade near 24 hours it should be a question now of how much profit. I have laughed about it. Maybe a boring old fart trader like me together with a no fear younger trader could be where it's at right now. A mix of boring and risk!
(Obviously telling you this for fun, it is highly volatile so please don't buy some, you could do your complete brains on it).
I took profits of £1,452 in Lucedo after a great run, it reached target and perhaps around 400p is the right price for now?
Profit of £210 taken in the short of Kgf, and profit of £875 taken in the short of Gym.
Telecom Plus continues its climb as one of only three cos you can switch to and still get the cap. It trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse. A statement is due later this month and you would expect the outlook statement to be good. There is a nice 5pc div too.
If you are stuck wanting to switch your utilities you can make me some commission and you will also get my website email which includes some extra trades not shown here.

I've been asked a lot the last couple of years about Sharepad/Sharescope and whether it is worth subscribing. I ignored all the mails thinking "can't be bothered".
But at last have given it a go and like it. I think I will run it alongside the brilliant stockopedia.
It has lots of great research tools, it is well laid out and it has pre-tax profit forecasts which I find very handy. You can also upgrade to level 2 and real time prices.
For more, including a video on what's offered plus a no quibble 30 day money back guarantee and a big discount go to this link:

Stockopedia as ever is SO useful. It really is a must have! And some fantastic talented writers/commentators too like Paul Scott.
Brilliant stats on all shares, amazing stock screens and lots more.

Money Week offer:
Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.
Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.
There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.
The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..
On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!
So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT
Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.
Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.
Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
