APRIL 10, 2025
How many from Norwich?
Lovely to meet some of you online last week.
A really nice group, we had some fun and some good trades came up too.
Thanks for all the contributions to the discussions.
I'm not doing another seminar till after the hols, the online one will be on September 12th.
If you'd like details email me
I'm already getting asked about the big Xmas bash hotel seminar asking for a date.
I decided to get organised, date will be Dec 8th, usual hotel but won't take bookings till October. Chance to take that day off if you need to!
I'm very casually wondering about a hotel seminar for all comers in the first half of October but I am never sure if people just want the online ones.
Can you do me a favour and you think you might be interested in a hotel seminar first half of October can you let me know?
Send an email to me with "October hotel possibly interested", if there are enough replies I can set a date.
I literally have to run!
We're off tonight to one of my sister's theatres, the Apollo for the re-opening of Fawlty Towers!
It's going to be fun.
It's a gala event with an after party with loads of celebs in attendance.
We might get to meet John Cleese at the after party though he is so tall I hope he is sitting down.
My sister says he is hilarious.
The live show is based on about three of the TV episodes and it got great reviews.
Nothing like totally crazy humour is there?
Apparently the Germans even don't mind the "Don't mention the war" episode.
There were only ever 12 episodes, a great idea to have a short run.
We've also been invited to the opening night of Mel Brooks' classic "The Producers" in late August.
The Producers is such a classic, seen it many times.
If you've never seen or only seen some of the TV comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm" watch series 4.
It's based on Larry David getting the lead on the Producers, Mel Brooks is in it and the whole series, series 4, is a scream.
Suggest if you want to go to either Fawlty Towers or The Producers get your skates on as suspect both will get sold out quickly.
You're guaranteed a great night at either. The Producers will be at the Garrick.
To book both or either go to my sister's website:
That was some hot few days!
I just about got saved by my little £30 fan with the ice cubes slot.
Some of you said you bought it and it really helped.

The poor cats have struggled.
One of ours is determined only to drink water directly from the tap.
He refuses to drink from a bowl which is very frustrating as I have to lift him up onto the bedroom sink four times a day on request!
Oh, and the tap has to be run .. just so...
The penny dropped recently re cat "miows".
All they've done of course is imitate the cries of human babies.
"Ah that's how they get attention" they realised.
Cat number 2's miow is especially loud as he used to live with a deaf older lady!

Well that was some day! I can now proudly boast I held a hotel seminar during one of the biggest one day stock market crashes!
Indeed, over the years I am great at picking dates guaranteed to crash the market.
Here is a guaranteed strategy: Get the date of my next hotel seminar.
Short the market two days before it and heavily on the day itself.
A few days later, bag the short profits then buy, buy, buy!
I held one on the worst day of the 2008 crash. Oh and the 2012 one, and lots of mini ones.
Call me now very experienced in chatting to investors whose money is draining away as I talk!
Actually it made it a very interesting day to say the least.
Lovely, lovely bunch of people, some of you I know very well and some new people and great getting to know them and one or two of you want to come on the Palma retreat.
We had a lot of fun and also celebrated the hottest day of the year so far with cornettos and Hargen Daaz.
The hotel did really well with some fabulous roast chicken.
However, the delegates did a lot of damage to my credit card. I must be a right idiot for doing a free bar.
Though it wasn't as bad as a seminar I did in Dublin.
My free bar meant I lost money on the whole thing as over 1,000 pints of Guinness were sunk on me.
The day started badly. Just before we left home I managed to prick a finger leaving blood all over my clothes.
Then our cab didn't show! Never mind things went up from there with a nice hotel breakfast.
It was great to catch up with so many regulars with special mentions to Fiona and Vikesh who've been coming to these for more than ten years.
Thanks to Fiona for the eggs and honey from her farm and Vikesh for the lift home.
What's really great is to see people of all backgrounds and ages mixing so well and sure some new friends were made.
The buzz in the room is just fantastic and I loved the whole day.
Some very interesting discussions and chats and fun.
In the bar afterwards we learned strangely there was a massive contingent from Norfolk and Norwich.
Indeed one or two found out they only lived a few miles from each other!
People from Norwich are used to the ups and downs of things, just like their football club!
So many to chat to and it was brilliant fun.
Big thanks to Paul from Sharescope from being there, he was brilliant and so helpful.
I was getting fed up with lugging a big speaker for seminars but I've discovered an incredible small speaker with massive power.
It's tiny, size of a hand with a handheld mike and an overear mike, both work brilliantly,
Used this kit for the seminar for the first time and it was just great!
No distortion, fabulous voice magnification
So if you are looking for a pa system if you are a teacher or in a club or for a quiz night or anywhere you need a mike system this is beyond excellent!
The speaker is so small you can carry it in your hand or in a bag or case.
Anyway here's the link I got it from on Amazon, highly recommended!
If you get it mail me for any tips on how to use it.

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.
II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.
If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.
Seems like a no brainer here is the link:
I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.

Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.
Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard on TV.
Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.
It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.
Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Good idea by the new Government (it is the only good one so far) to get a massive new theme park built.
Lots of new jobs and good for the economy.
You won't see me for dust there, now my child rearing days are behind me.
I remember all those days trailing around theme parks here and in the USA.
The sheer boredom of it all. Feckin Peppa Pig and all that.
Also frankly I am scared of the rides.
I was even petrified of the Cat In The Hat ride in Disneyland.
I was tricked into going on the "runaway train" ride in Florida. I am still shuddering.
Mobile phones should be banned in schools says a teaching union.
Definitely! I feel sorry for teachers having to put up with them, why should they?
Hand your phone in at start of day, pick it up at the end. That's it.
There is no need for them in schools at all, they are disruptive and encourage bullying.
Can we have divided pavements too please?
One for zombie texters and one for those of us who maybe just want to be happy with our thoughts?
I refuse to get out of the way of zombie texters and let them walk into me.
It's quite fun, give it a try!
I'm joining in on tariffs and decided to put a £10 a month tariff on this website.

The White Lotus **** Sky
A slightly disappointing and overlong end to this series.
Slightly predictable, but as a whole, an entertaining series overall.
Best resolution was a character who decides a price of 5 million dollars is enough for her to ditch her morals.
I guess we all have a price. Mine's £50 (cash only).
Worst resolution was the three girlfriends who after a series of brilliant bitching make up out of the blue for no reason.
Interesting way to decide to kill your partner though, a fruit smoothie.
If the mrs offers me a smoothie she made just after I refused to do the bins I may resist.
This City is Ours *** BBC1
Not really violent at all series continues with two Liverpudian drug sellers at war.
It's pretty entertaining but given it was supposed to be like The Sopranos after various characters were killed off there is hardly anyone left.
The finale though? Meh. It ran out of steam pretty badly.
Bosch Legacy **** Amazon
Last ever series for the likeable but flawed detective.
Extremely relaxing US cop show, if you've never seen it start from the beginning.
Nice and easy watch, bad guys vs good guys, no real violence, a simple treat.
The Studio **** Apple
New comedy satirising Hollywood and one of the top studios.
After getting promoted to head of the studio Matt tries to make meaningful movies but his boss is just after the big bucks.
He is lovely and flawed and of course caves in.
Huge cameos from various stars with the highlight an appearance from Martin Scorcese who gets shafted.
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) plays a super ruthless narcissist as Matt's boss.
He gets the best line:
"If Warner Bros can make a billion off the plastic tits of a pussyless doll we should be able to make two billion out of a Kool Aid movie."
A doctor has been accused of forcing his male patient to "watch East German porn".
What on earth IS East German porn?
I think I need to do some research.
Can you just confirm to my wife this was research in case she looks up my internet history?
(I'll report back with East German porn news next time).
New Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.
The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
There is only one word that describes the last week:
Bonkers
(Play Bonkers by Dizzie Rascal while reading this).
I have never seen anything like this in 25 years of trading full time.
That ONE elderly mad guy who potentially could lose his marbles at any minute can create such craziness!
And to see markets lose and then make trillions of dollars because of a fake tweet! Barmy.
Trillions are added, trillions wiped off, trillions added.
For no reason other than a crazed alpha male with too much power on his own.
Of course with the markets crashing no wonder he did the U-turn.
I can imagine his mates going "What the eff have you done to my portfolio?"
Indeed today the White House was accused of insider trading!
Trump himself tweeted or xed whatever the f it is now to buy shares just before his announcement.
How can investors make a proper decision with the madness going on.
Most annoying of all if you have good shares you KNOW are great value you see them going down knowing it's false and all to do with fear driven selling.
Also market makers have a great time as they can mark down all the shares before you can even sell them.
Oh, and of course mark up everything on a good day before you can buy them like today.
As mentioned near the top of the diary I couldn't have chosen a worse day to hold a hotel seminar.
Nice one, a seminar on the same as one of the biggest one day market crashes ever!
Way to go!
But remember to keep an eye for any hotel dates of mine and short the markets the day before.. guaranteed winnings!
Surprisingly though, it proved a fascinating day and proving staying calm when you feel fear is the best thing to do.
As one attendee said "See you being so calm really helped."
Indeed when everyone feels fear it is a sign to buy.
We discussed this a lot on the day, figuring now was the time to find good uns and considering buying in the near future.
It is nearly always a case of "Buy on fear, sell on smugness".
I am good at buying on fear, not so good at selling as sadly, I am nearly always smug.
Not much I can do about it, it runs in the family and if I come across as smug I understand and I am sorry. I will try to be better.
It's because I had a dysfunctional childhood, so you have to forgive.
Anyway we spent a lot of the event looking ahead and planning buys for this week.
You just knew a rally would come and so we spent time on likely excellent quality shares that would bounce back.
We did various share screening and some ideas from those there too.
And we also looked at shorting, after all there was a lot to be made from the downside too.
I do feel too many investors just won't take advantage of a sudden slump in prices and at least hedge their portfolios with some shorts.. short-term.
Indeed, we did a little shorting on the day and I made a few grand shorting the ftse live and a small short on the dow (the dow scares me!) made a couple of hundred.
Main thing with a slump is not to panic (unlike Corporal Jones) and have a plan.
My plan was to generally hold onto all my good ones, bar ones that looked a bit ropey.
And then use the EFT short for the Isas to make money from short term downside and some short spreadbets.
These were only intended for the very short-term and paid off in spades.
It also meant I could hold onto good ones knowing I was making some money on the downside.
Anyway at the seminar we got a list of a number of shares that had begun to look ultra cheap
Right, here are some (hopeful) bargains I picked up during the melee.
Most of the shares I bought came up at the seminar through chats and share screening
And got most of them on the Monday and Tuesday after the event.
I'm not going to share all of my buys with you, you should have been there!
Also if I mention too many here I have to remember to follow them up here which takes work.
First off I bought some of the winner of the share competition at the seminar picked and presented by long term investor Fiona who won the £100.
That share is Synectics (SNX) and I picked some up in a couple of trades at what looked like a nice price.
This one is a small security company.
Fiona at the seminar's research showed: Last few TUs have been "materially ahead", and issued stunning results in early March -underlying profit up by 56% to £4.8m, EBITDA up by 27% to 6.2m.
Very importantly, it's got net cash of £9.6m (up from 4.6m ) and a strong and increasing order book of £38.5m. It's also paying a dividend.
So quite a bit of resilience there for Synectics in terms of end markets and customer demand which is exactly what we need to be looking for in our investments right now."
AGM statement likely on May 7th. Pe is nice and low at 10 with a good PEG.
Downside? Forced sellers could drive it lower and spread is on the high side, so it could be hard to sell if there's a profit warning.
But that doesn't look likely and Synectics does look very cheap.
I bought some Volex after an ahead of statement. (A buy a while back got stopped for a loss see below).
This one has been relentlessly sold off and I was wondering about stepping in and when I saw the ahead of statement I felt it a no brainer to re-buy.
It said it was going to top 1bn in revenue following a strong fourth quarter.
The boss reckoned" Volex's current market valuation fails to adequately reflect our embedded presence in global technology supply chains."
It now does seem too cheap and you'd expect some nice rises from here.
It seems to row in with the rest of the market so could fall with it would be the downside.
I also got some McBride which we chatted about on Friday.
I haven't touched this own brand maker in the past because of its big debt.
But it's coming down fast to come without the scope of "allowed to buy".
If profits go up and debt down as forecast its very low pe will look too cheap sooner or later.
Downside? If it said its debt wasn't coming down anymore in which case I would be gone.
Three of the people at the seminar held Card Factory, all making losses having bought higher.
I've had a good look at it and reckon it does look very cheap so I picked some up.
Card is trying to grow over in the US and if it succeeds, we could see some nice rises.
Currently it sits on a very low multiple, too low really and it pays out a nice dividend of - get this - nearly 7 per cent!
When you get a big dividend it either means a share is too cheap or something is up. Let's hope it's too cheap!
I wouldn't hang about though if it fell much below 75p.
Today I bought some Zigup - I noticed the company had completed its debt re-financing which makes it less high risk than before.
A hard one to sum up, it has a lot of debt but that isn't much of an issue as it has a ton of net assets.
It has a fleet of vehicles for example worth £1.4 billion.
It is growing well in Spain but had problems in the UK.
Get this though: the dividend is near 10 pc!
However it IS a falling knife, and my policy with this one is to run a "get out quick".
Ie, if this isn't the upward turning point from the shares I won't be hanging about for long.
Btw this is scary spice's fave share "Zig a Zig up Ah"¦"
I bought back Pinewood, after selling them after in hindsight buying too high for a loss.
That one was covered recently so will leave you to dig into the online archive.
And as we discussed at the seminar, Morgan Sindall looked great value and I topped up on those
Pine went for a loss of £61 and Volex for a loss of £641 though both have been bought back, see above.
I couldn't quite resist topslicing a little of my biggest holding Cohort this am. At 12pc up, I succumbed and topsliced a small amount.
For the website then 2 of the smaller positions sold for a profit of £4,428.
This morning I had a plan.
That was with the FTSE opening up 450 pts or so I just knew there had to be some profit taking and I went very short term heavily short of the FTSE at the open.
I scaled up into it and very luckily got stops into break even quite quickly.
I began shorting this morning at 8,135 and got the rest of the shorts on above 8,100.
If the FTSE races up, it's fine now and it's just a question of how much profit I'll make.
I can do this with no money to add as I have "pro" spreadbet accounts which give massive leverage with the downside if things go wrong they can sue you for losses!
(You need £500,000 or more liquid to get one of these accounts.)
I don't go high very often, only for one off events or black swans like covid.
Currently as I write this I am up nearly £7,000 on the bets.
If the FTSE happened to go down further this afternoon this will become more, if it goes up there will still be a good profit.
I consider myself cautious but occasionally if the obvious opportunity arises I will go for it
If you want to learn how to short be covering that in depth at my online event on May 9th.
As at the hotel seminar last week, more are interested so we will go through it using my love spreadbet accounts.
Best for beginners is either TN or SCO as the FTSE spread is only 0.6.
Link here:
https://tradenation.com/en-gb/naked-trader/
BUT and a HUGE but. Make sure you understand it and only go in with a small stake at the next black swan.
Also, it can bring out the gambler in you. Do NOT spreadbet if you have any gambling tendencies. You will know deep in your heart if you do.
If you want to learn how to short as a spreadbet get my latest SB book, tons of live and worked through examples link here:
For shorting in your isa read the chapter in NT 6
You can short FTSE, Nasdaq or the Dax in an isa and hedge your portfolio.
What will happen next?
I think volatility will continue as we just don't know what on earth he will say or when.
But very likely there will be a monster rally not too far off.
I suggest keep tighter stops on the shares you are not sure about and looser stops on the ones you really like.
For an extreme example if China and the US really face off there could be a massive downturn, everything will be hit but your stops could save you.
But also Trump is likely to reign in his plans causing the rally.
Next update it would not surprise me if everything is way higher or way lower.
Good luck but don't feel down if you lost a packet.
I have been through tons of bad times and you'll find with care, you can get through it.
Have a plan, stay calm and carry on!!
Oh I would like to thank Paul from Sharescope for his presentation at the hotel seminar.
He admitted he was quite nervous beforehand but he did really well.!
He took us through some of Sharescope's really great features.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.
Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.
Buy and read! Amazon link: https://amzn.to/46v2hcg
One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.
Amazon have them, link here: https://amzn.to/460qjeY
The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here: https://amzn.to/3Z4VALw
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
