From a couple of years of sheer boredom from not being able to socialise properly suddenly everyone has decided balls to Covid and invites and events are flooding in.

That is it !! Had enough of staying in, not doing anything, knickers to covid,
we've also booked holidays.

Going to Spain in July and August and that's that.

Also feck the bloody back, I don't care, let it do what it will, nothing and
no-one is going to stop me living my life.

Life is indeed very short and I want to have some bloody fun again! We've started with a couple of race nights.

Some technology is great, and some is really awful and pushes us backwards.

I went to some evening racing at Kempton Park.

Been going there for decades and even got married there on a raceday which was just brilliant fun.

We book the restaurant which is starting to push it at £69 a head, you can get michelin starred restaurants for that.

All is fine, staff are great, we make the food order and then time to order drinks.

I give the waitress the order (is it waitperson, server or what now?) but she says "I can't take the drinks order you have to enter it into the machine."

There is a small ipad style screen.

So instead of saying "gin and tonic please" to a human being, you have to tap your order into a machine.

Which takes foreever as there is a massive menu to get through and tons of choice and so forth,

Between four of us it took nearly 10 minutes to manage it. And we are all used to tech!

What a pain in the bum!

Instead of watching the racing and enjoying it the drink orders became a total shambles.

"We hate it," says the waitress.

"Everyone complains about it, we think they are trying to get rid of some of the jobs."

At the end of the evening we paid for the food but drinks, no that has to be separate and we need to "pay the machine".

But all we get is the wheel of death. Machine has packed up.

A whole load of more faffing about and eventually they come round with a card reader to take the money, another waste of time.

And... we didn't have as many drinks as we would have had if we'd ordered from a person!

I sent a long mail to Kempton explaining what happened. No reply.

I hate the idea but suspect it won't be long before you put the food order into a machine too which will be delivered by a robot.

That's coming down the line, how depressing.

Three years ago, I'd have ordered the drinks in seconds, paid for the whole thing in seconds with cash and handed out some decent tips.

The pandemic has been an excuse to try and cut costs to the detriment of human communication.

Simply awful.

Oh, and of course they won't take cash.

You can bet with cash but if you win you can't use it to buy anything. Talk about taking the fun out of it.

I decided to moan to the Racing Post which promptly rang me - it has a campaign to bring back cash to racecourses.

I even got quoted, oooh.

Maybe I need to set up one of those Government petitions.

Cash must be honoured by all up to £500, no excuses.

After all the Queen promises to stump up on banknotes.

With so much going on, not sure when the next update will be as there are
bank holidays, seminars and all sorts going on.

When I've made a decision I'll put the next update date at the top of the site.

In the meantime if you're coming to the June 8th online event, a questionnaire will be with you the weekend before, answers do help!

Nice to "meet" some of you online last month.

So many questions which is why the seminar did finish a bit late but they were really
good ones and thanks to one of you for the ex dividend stop loss question which is so important and I had totally forgotten to cover!

Hope you all got the notes from the day, if you didn't please check spam or let me know,
they were sent as a word attachment.

Thanks for the lovely feedback too and four of you have already booked the follow up on June 22nd, so see you again for a more advanced day then.

Remember to try and stick by the rules if you can.

If you missed that event the next will be on June 8th from my place to your PC or phone or whatever.

For details mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "June Seminar interested". For total beginners or those trying to improve. New date also July 20th.
Some lovely people, some great chats and brilliant ideas at the seminars in March.

Though we did have one or two blokes from Yorkshire who were too tight to buy Yorkshire Gold tea instead of standard Yorkshire....

Also glad many of you at the follow up one are still doing ok considering it is difficult at the moment.

Thanks for the great feedback especially from you beginners and remember you can just start with small amounts, you don't have to go all in!

Let me know how you do.

if you fancy spending a day with me and live markets and a bit of fun too, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July 20th interested."
Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."

Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

With the kiddies playground of politics getting increasingly more "FFS" and
goodness knows that they are all up to.. hurrah for the Rooney - Vardy giving us such great entertainment.

We have Peter Andre's "chipolata" which he claims is more like a Sky
remote control.

(Surely that means he spends a lot of time saying "Where the hell has my
willie gone"? )

We had all the instagram messages, some of which were a scream.

Then the agent's phone amazingly disappearing into the sea.

The judge tried hard to put a stop to this silly case. But failed.

He did warn them they likely would both be hit for millions.

The whole thing loses millions but the lawyers are having a great time coining it
in and how they must laugh in the michelin restaurant afterwards.

In the end though you have to admire Mrs Rooney.

She pretty much nailed Mrs Vardy who called Wayne a c*** when he
unfollowed her.

Final score then: Rooney 4 - Vardy 1

Vardy gets relegated.

I can't wait to see the Netflix drama on this coming soon...

Beware: You can no longer call me bald. If you do I can claim sexual harrassment.

About time too.

All due to a discrimination case were a worker was called a bald c***.

Apparently it wasn't the c*** that was the problem, it was the bald.

The judges who decided this were, of course, three bald c*****.

Bosch Legacy (****) Amazon/freevee
The return of the under the radar but superior detective series.

Bosch has retired from duty but is now a private investigator.

Lots of twists and turns and decent dramatic scenes, if you haven't come
across Bosch, Amazon has the whole series, worth a look.

The Staircase (****) Sky Atlantic.
Beware this is not the same as The Staircase on Netflix! That's a documentary,
this is a drama. Part of the documentary is in the drama. Gettit?

Takes the real-life events of a novelist accused of killing his wife while
he contends she fell down the stairs.

Once you're into it, it is pretty gripping and an amazing performance from an
out of character Colin Firth.

The real-life twists and turns in the case are amazing, there's also a super
support cast. Made a date with that Staircase.

Make a Love Scene (*) Ch 4.
Is Channel 4 now making any shows where people keep their clothes on?

Conversations with Friends (***)
Another adaptation of a Sally Rooney novel following on from Normal People.

It's passable but nowhere near the strengths of Normal People.

Bisexual poet has a fling with charisma free actor while her ex has
a thing with his wife.

The characters come over a bit on the glum side with a touch of being
too clever for their own good.

Better Call Saul (*****)
Pure TV bliss.

Not sure about the boxing thing, bit too off the wall maybe but Better Call Saul
is allowed a pass.

McDonalds is leaving Russia. Good thing too.

It does mean though that Russia will be taking over the branches.

I guess instead of the Big Mac it will be a Big Putin.

Happy meals will come with a toy - a plastic tank (that only
goes backwards).

Say anything bad about Putin and you get a side order
of novichok nuggets.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Podcast 5:

https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/nt5/

Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money, plus a £100 competition, top tens, spot the intros, nostalgia corner and loads of laughs. Plus experienced investors have tips for beginners and investment ideas - settle down and spend
some time with the Naked Trader!

Things remain tricky in the world of shares.

We have big days of fear like today (The world is coming to an end).

Or big days of greed (Hey all is fine, look at the cheap valuations now let's
get stuck in!).

Indices go down 100s of points and then up, bonkers of course!

The question right now is with most small caps, some mid caps and big cos too
having their valuations reduced, is all the bad news now in the prices?

Are problems with inflation, logistics, war, China now baked into reduced prices?

Yes or no? I'd love to know the answer, sadly as always with the markets, who knows?

I think for the time being it's worth picking up what looks really cheap shares, hanging on to the defensive ones with good dividends but also keeping some cash and shorting the dodgier ones.

It's interesting that recently a lot of statements and reports from companies have been pretty good, with more ahead of statements than profit warnings.

Does this mean that perhaps things aren't as bad as we thought?

After all share traders and commentators tend to succumb to fear rather easily.

I know, I have more questions than answers today.
Looking forwards this is probably a summer to relax, take it easy on the markets.

Pick up a bargain or two and hold, stay a bit cautious.

But there is also the potential for some big gains with the right buys.

There are a lot of what look lovely bargains around assuming a nuke isn't coming
our way.

Fear is always the biggest problem us humans have especially in the market and it
could be the fear has been too much.

Fear can turn to greed fast too, and bargains picked up now could easily be
20% plus higher come the autumn!

At the beginners seminar on July 20th and the advanced follow up June 22nd I think
we will spend a lot of time bargain hunting.

It's always worth having a list of shares you think are oversold ready to bag that bargain.

What have I been up to during these difficult times?

Well, I saw Michael Burry of "The Big Short" fame had shorted loads of Apple shares so at least he thinks tech shares over in the states are still overvalued.

He was the guy that spotted the 2008 crash before anyone else.

If you haven't seen The Big Short film it's a must watch!

As you may know I steer clear of discussion forums, BB's, investor meet-ups, meet the companies as I think you just end up with confirmation bias and optimism regarding not so great companies.

Other people can influence way too much, so I try and just stick to the figures.

But how can you ignore Burry who has made such amazing calls?

I followed him and have shorted a bite of Apple.

I have noticed recently when a company reports a decent statement, it gets marked up a little then it falls.

Then it starts to go back up again then gains in the next few days. It is bizarre.

It seems people panic on even good results and sell, but then the buyers pick them up.

For example one that dropped on results day yesterday was Watches of Switzerland.

We discussed this at the online seminar and though we liked it I did suggest wait until after results day.

However the report was decent.

Despite rising inflation and cost of living it seems people will still want Rolex!

Watches is still expanding and launching more outlets both in the US and in Europe.

With international travel back, it should gain a lot from airport shopping too.

Also the second hand market is always pretty decent and many look on their watches as a bit of an investment.

Shares rose initially yesterday then predictably fell back.

They fell back a bit today too, I guess with the rest of the market.

But I couldn't quite resist the two days of falls and picked up a starter position.
It's very volatile which makes stops a bit tricky but the intention is to try and hold on looking for a return to around 1200-1300.

Might take a while in these conditions though, and patience might be needed with any bargain buys.

ITV is another that dropped on results but again started rising.

I had loads of these a while back but was stopped out.

Under 70p shares look very good value now despite worries of a weak advertising market.

A perennial takeover target which never happened at this sort of price you wonder with the hidden value in production and studios.

I've taken a small starter again position here.

I'll build it if starts to rise.

I think for now generally stakes should be kept smaller in case of further falls.

I picked up some more Begbies Traynor which now makes it one of my bigger
holdings and already in a great profit on ones bought over the last 2 years.

You might remember in March I picked some up at what now looks like a very
nice 102p.

Today the company announces a very strong "ahead of" statement.

This insolvency practitioner (sadly I guess) benefits from bad times and of
course insolvency work has been booming which is good news for it.

Given it's up against a bad market today, plus it looks like it's breaking out
to a major upside there could be some more nice gains.

I reckon a target of around 160-70p looks fair.

Perhaps more with that patience that few of us have these days.

Qinetic (QQ.) reported some excellent results today, of course price is down as always on results day.

However waiting to buy some more with this defence success story. Probably
early next week!

Defence shares are obviously in demand and these and BAE systems look decent holds in the current climate.

K3C put out a statement saying there were no problems and no reason
for the downturn in share price.

It also said trading was strong in all 3 divisions.

There's a huge dividend and a low pe, looks a massive bargain now.

Potential massive upside for this one especially if the market likes some likely upcoming acquisitions.

I've shorted some Naked Wines.

Not much going for this one at the moment.

It really benefitted a lot from lockdown as people got pissed at home.

However now, things don't look so rosy and I think you'll have to have
downed several bottles of plonk to buy these.

I've also tried to cover some losses in longer-term holds with some FTSE
and Dow shorting.

The Dow I've done with spreadbetting and with the FTSE part spreadbetting
and part using an ETF (see my book on how to do all this).

Lucky for me with falls this week, all stops are in profit.

If the indices keep falling it should part cover isa losses, if they rise I'll
get stopped out but the shares will go up,

I think jargon people call this hedging.
The Diploma trade unexpectedly was stopped out for a loss of £385 . I was confident about that one too! I guess it just fell with the market.

After some falls looking to get back in.

I took some nice profits of £4,170 in the short on Trustpilot, they were too good to ignore!

Sureserve reported excellent results but it does happen to be a company that
no-one bothers with as it just has dull things like profits and cash, a decent outlook.

Given the falling market, it should hold up well as it's defensive.

Another defensive with a massive dividend is Telecom Plus.

Shorts are all going well, in particular Aston Martin where those of you who saw
my accounts at the last seminar will know profits are in real life over £30,000.

So where do we go from here?

I reckon if you don't panic and stay calm, watch for shares where there is obvious value and pick up the odd bit and piece here and there.

Look for shares with low debt, net cash and a business which should recover.

Steer well clear of high debt and anything where inflation could bite badly (retail for example).

If you are feeling sad and f

off with the markets do remember we are adaptable and fear can disappear quickly and the market can easily turn back up when you least expect it.

Make sure you have a list of great quality companies to get stuck into the bounceback with some of the qualities outlined above.

Stockopedia's "quality" scores are very useful for this, pick shares with quality of at least 70 plus.

(Discount still at stockopedia.com/nakedtrader)

At the seminar on June 8th part of the day will be searching for top quality and concentrating on those and we'll probably do a bit more on shorting.

Good luck with navigating the markets - it could well be the best plan is to relax, switch off your screen and enjoy some sun instead.

It's only money - and you are only playing with money you can afford to lose,
right...... right????
It's that time of the year when you can add 20k into an isa.

It is an amazing tax perk and we are very lucky to have it, I am especially grateful and remember the feeling a while back when I made the first tax free million in one!

I use Barclays, IG and Interactive Investor for mine.

Interactive Investor have a referral thing for the moment so if you want £125 of fees
taken off let me know - available for anyone who invests 10k plus.

On the referral I apparently would get £200 into my account so a win win for both of us?

If you want to go for the referral and the money off email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you details of how we can do it.

Good luck to all of you in current volatile conditions. Maybe we can be lucky, hostilities
will cease and we get back to normal.

Money Week offer:

Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.

Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.

There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.

The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..

On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!

So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT

Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.

Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
