SEPTEMBER 19, 2012

Hosting seminar beats the 70s

*** Next seminar now October 15th.

I don't normally hold another one till late November or early December but I had so many mails from people wanting one in October because you could not make September....more details below but if you couldn't make Friday's event here is your chance, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line. Early bird discount is on offer! ****

Brilliant to meet some of you readers at the seminar on Friday.

A really great bunch you were. Not a single heckle! What more could I want?

Put it this way running a seminar where I talk non stop for 12 hours was much better than hosting a four hour 70s party, way more relaxing.

Talking about the market and making live trades is easy compared to trying to get people dancing to YMCA I can promise you! (See last update)

Brilliant age range from 20 to 80 and lovely to see people from different walks of life who would not normally meet get on so well.

I know a number of new friends have been made which is terrific. I'm amazed at how many of you wanted me to sign your books. Who do you think I am.. Jeffrey Archer? And what about the ebay resale value?

An amazing three of you all pretty much nailed the answer to the day's competition. This meant I had to hand out three £100 prizes instead of the usual one!!

But it was so staggering that all three of you nailed it, it was worth it. Some genuine potential traders among you three! Well done!

The day before the event, one delegate Angela decided to buy the seminar for her partner Albertus as a birthday gift.

To be honest I felt a tad of pressure. What if Albertus spent the day with me turns to Angela and goes: "Well that was one crap birthday present..."

Hey but they were there at the end and I gathered it worked out. Phew! You two were great, thanks for the property auction tips!

This seminar tried very hard to beat the last record late finish but just missed by 5 minutes. Still no idea how I got home...

Despite being out for the count for the weekend it was so enjoyable and rewarding and thanks for all the great feedback.

I think many of you began to see how important level 2 is and some of the other tricks I taught to to work out unemotional entries and exits.

I think we also discovered some interesting companies on the day, one or two have made it to a short shortlist of mine. And thanks for all the nice feedback.

If you'd like to come to the next one it's not so far away on Oct 15th so mail me if interested, there is a nice early bookers discount!

Christopher had his first game for his new team, his debut. It was an away game so we drove 20 mins and found the "away ground".

We soon met some of the other parents who explained to us newbies this was all well and good on a warm sunny day.. but hah, just wait till the winter when we stand there watching our 7-year-olds battle it out in the freezing cold....

I'm pleased to report Christopher's team won it 8-1. To be fair, the other team were pretty awful. Indeed they scored two of the goals for our team.

I'm not surprised our team is good. We have a passionate Italian coach. My goodness.

He screams his way throughout the whole game. "Christopher! GET FORWARDS!! Andrew, WHAT ARE YOU DOING - GET INTO SPACE!!!

"Mike... TACKLE HIM, DON'T JUST STAND THERE!!!"

Meanwhile the other coach didn't bother to compete - though at one point he did mumble...

"Harry, you're going the wrong way...." (Harry got confused in the second half).

Apparently our coach nearly made it to professional in Italy.

One of the parents confided in me re the coach.

"Sometimes he goes over the top,"he said. "In fact last season one of the parents of the opposing team decked him... the police were called and everything."

"Don't worry," he said to my startled look. "It really doesn't happen very often..."

Christopher nearly got a goal but his shot hit their goalie on the foot by accident, darn it. Still, a home game next week..

I've just had news they are looking for a referee for this Sunday's game. Dare I?

I do have a yellow and red card at home. If Christopher's team is losing do I just start sending off their players till they win? Or is that too transparent?

What if the dads on the opposing team get upset with me? Can I handle it? What if the kids start to fight?

I might stay under the radar on this one.

We had great fun on Saturday afternoon watching Fulham beat West Brom 3-0 (apologies if you are a Baggies fan)

The same people are usually around us as we have season tickets.

We've got the front row and behind us is a nice dad and his 4 and 6 year old boys.

Problem is they both always seem to need the loo. I knew it was coming. I could hear the dad hiss "Can't you wait till half time..." "No!

I knew the tap on the shoulder was coming. So we have to get up so they can climb down, disturbing quite a few.

However I have noticed Fulham nearly always score when they are away at the loo so I was fine about it!

Dad and son head off and true to form Fulham score! They arrive back, half-time starts. I idly wonder why they always need the loo then I looked closer.

Both kids have a giant bottle of coke each! Both three quarters empty. (And they both have giant bags of m and m's).

I would like to say to the dad: "They want to go to the loo BECAUSE YOU GIVE THEM GIANT BOTTLES OF COKE WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!!!"

I don't want to judge anyone. But I know as a dad myself that when he gets home he's going to have two wired kids who between them have the equivalent of ten spoons of sugar each.

The thing is a game is only an hour and a half, why does anyone need to drink and eat so much crap during a game? We have a bag of crisps each at half time as a treat. Enough already surely?

Or I wonder am I just some kind of horrible judgemental middle class horror? Yeah, probably.

Towards the end of the game the inevitable tap on the shoulder comes. "Good, I think, that means we are going to score."

They go off to the loo. Yep, we score!

Over a season this dad is going to miss nearly all the goals....
If you couldn't make Friday's seminar the next one is less than a month away on Monday October 15th.

if you are interested in a seat mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "October seminar interested" in the subject line.

And the good news is for a short time there is a decent early bookers discount!

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!

If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Follow Up Seminars

A follow up with me will be on Friday November 16th at Heathrow. This is for those who've been to a basic seminar with me but now want to improve. So we spend a day of live markets watching level 2, order books as well as researching new shares, coming up with new ideas for longs and shorts, and well, who knows what might happen. I love these days and it usually throws up some new ideas.

Sunday December 9th is the date for another technical analysis seminar with Susan who for many years has made decent money full time by using simple TA. She will teach you all about it in an easy and simple way to help improve buy and sell decisions.

If you're interested in either or both dates, email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "follow up", or "TA interested" or "both interested".

Lots of lovely feedback on the last event including this from Janet: "Thank you so much for what was a terrific 12 hour marathon on your part. I feel like I have been through a 12 hour therapy session that has given me back some confidence. I now feel I can indeed make trading work for me, after a few years of trying and testing and not quite comprehending and co-ordinating the right ingredients. The last late session researching various companies was a real help."

And Colin: "Highlights of the day for me were Level 2 and going through the selection process to choose shares. I have followed advice from your book in the past, and it really has worked for me before, but even though I understood the concept of Level 2 I never quite saw the real benefits of it. Two minutes into your explanation of how you use it I was kicking myself. I could not believe that I had done all my trades without it! Watching you check some shares was very useful, especially the speed which you can eliminate or shortlist the numerous possibilities out there. Just watching you doing it showed me how much time I had been wasting doing the same thing but by a much more torturous process."

* The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!

Lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.

I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.

Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.

Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

I read an excellent stock market thriller on holiday,

"The Fear Index" by Robert Harris.

A maths genius joins a hedge fund and together they create a monster trading robot giving it billions to play with.

The robot starts to short everything and starts to cause massive market crashes. Then takes on a mind of its own.

Plenty of excellent page turning stuff here, if you are a trader or investor a lot of it will ring true with the robots almost already in charge of some shares!

There's tons of drama and action and I couldn't put it down though it helps as it is a thriller about the markets!

If you're into the markets you'll love it.. here's an order link to the book:

Enjoy the read!!

An interesting email from a reader. The thrust of it was he was going to buy a share after doing a lot of research but then it went up 12% and he hadn't bought it yet. So he felt angry.
How does he stop/halt the feelings of anger?
Well, you have to take the emotion out of trading. Which isn't easy.
I suggested he should read this book.. by Jason Zweig
http://books.global-investor.com/books/256158.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
This is the one to read on psychology. Great read.
Fancy getting the naked trader updates direct into your inbox? And a bit before it gets updates on the net including news from my pension trades made from my SIPP?

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.

They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:
http://books.global-investor.com/books/167207.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

**** BOOKING FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 15TH OPEN

Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Oct 15th

Price is £590 plus vat. That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. There is currently a decent early bookers discount off that price - mail for details!
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

£100 Tradefair offer

I've started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply)
To get the offer, click here:

Naked Rambling

Goodness these Royals.

Princes and Princesses, if you don't want to see pix of yourself in the mags, then all you have to do is NOT get your arses and tits out. It's really quite simple.

I can't imagine Diana doing it can you?

I'm afraid if you join the Royals you have to realise your life isn't yours anymore. You have to keep the tits and bums covered up whereever you are.

Royals shouldn't be jumping around a pool with no top on and the males shouldn't be naked with women in Las Vegas hotels. Sorry about that!

The legals are a terrible waste of OUR money because it is our money they will be using.

If they had just let it go it would have all blown over quickly. Now this will rumble on.

Good documentary on the TV this week about Poundland. How do they do it?

Well, they offer things like bread for a pound. But ... the bread is also offered at the same price by the supermarkets. The same branded bread. Poundland's loaf though is smaller!

And this carries on with lots of food items. Same price or lower in the supermarkets, and Poundland's items are smaller in size. Clever huh?

Another hilarious ruse is for example Kit Kats. On offer at the same price as the supermarket.

Except the supermarket's just says "8 bars"

Poundland's in big type says "5 plus 3 free!!"

One buyers was asked which is the better value at the same price. 8 or 5 plus three free."

"The three free,"comes the answer. What was that about making exams tougher?

My guess is with Poundland is to avoid the food items and go for the items were it is obvious the mark up is tiny, and that is where you'll get a real bargain

Interesting Dragons Den. Felt a bit sorry for some of them - they really had no business to offer and you kind of felt they were there for entertainment value or for the Dragons to have fun with.

I felt sorry for the Welsh lady, she was lovely. Worse was the ex homeless guy and his sand benches.

There wasn't any need to take the p*** out of him. Nor really did he have a business - I guess they had to use it for all the effort it must have taken to get all that sand in and out of the building...

Oh well, I guess it is entertainment in the end.

Lovely to see them all fighting to get on board the kids shampoo guys plan.

Of course when this happens and you are up there the best thing to do is walk away and just get a loan.

Because if they are all fighting for you you know you have a decent product, so why give the ruthless Dragons their greedy taste?

Get out of there, borrow the money and keep 100%. Even better, it gives YOU the chance to say "I'm out!"

Downton Abbey is back. Mrs NT was amazed I remembered to record it given what I thought about series 2.

We haven't watched it yet. I hope this series that Bates gets executed. He is one of the most annoying TV characters of all time.

Of course he won't, I am sure by series end he will be reunited with his bit of hot stuff. Darn.

I see Gary Lineker was asked by the Mail "Crisps or sweets"

A hilarious answer.. "I made crisp sandwiches when I was younger. Now it is important I eat properly, so I'm more careful...

In other words, he doesn't eat crisps! (I'm sure no-one will mention this oversight to Walkers)

The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.

http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Agree about facebook - the youngsters who leapt onboard when it started,
posting dire photos of them doing things they shouldn't are now grown up and
getting on in their careers and errrrrr wondering if that photo of them
mooning in the disco in Majorca was a good idea!

Nice to think I am not the only unsociable grump to not want to follow the
minutiae of my friends and colleagues mostly boring lives!

I am in the states just now and feel the Starbucks asking name thing is just
more marketing bollocks to get them noticed. If they just speeded up the
service I might go there but americans seem to need all this 'service
bollocks' to make them think they are getting their moneys worth.

Thanks Anne,
well of course I agree, it's nearly all bollocks!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.

ADVFN level 2 offer

SAVE OVER £120 !
First great deal: If you want level 2, through me it is only £350 for your first year including VAT!
This compares to £473 direct from advfn inc vat so this deal saves you over a whopping £120! ADVFN level 2 also includes all the live trades made through Plus Markets which I find invaluable.
To accept this great deal just e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Level 2 offer" in the subject line and I will tell you how to get it. Level 2 gives you access to all the market maker positions and the order book and I would not trade without it!

More on level 2 in my book and I spend hours on it at my seminars. So if you get level 2 and want to learn how to use it properly live, book my seminar!

ADVFN Bronze Offer

Deal two is ADVFN's bronze subscription - normally £74 pa - available from me for only £50! (inc vat) That's a saving of over £30! Markets

Interesting times! It always is after running a seminar because I look at so many shares.

The impression from looking at a vast number of shares and charts was that the market seems to be at a bit of a crossroads.

Many shares are reaching or are very close to tops (you could say the same for the ftse).

So you'd expect either: confidence is going to return this winter and shares will start to push up through the highs and we are going to see further gains.

Or.. despite QE 3 shares will shortly hit their tops and start to sink.

I really wish I knew which way it was going to go but I don't. So I will do my usual thing which is to follow what's going on and not try and guess it. If shares start to sink I'll top slice and go into more cash, if they continue to rise I will continue to run the winners and keep buying.

It was a fascinating seminar to me, I never know what is going to happen or where live markets will take us and I'll always end up with trades that simply wouldn't have happened if the event hadn't been held!

My next seminar by the way is quite soon as many of you couldn't make it, Monday Oct 15th so do email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" and I'll lob you details.

Some very interesting shares were unearthed and some have made it to a shortlist for me and awaiting the right time to enter

Onto the trades made then!

Unexpectedly I picked up some Ffyes at the seminar. I was kind of demonstrating direct access and as it had a big spread showed how you can try and pick shares up at the sell price.

And indeed I did getting 5,000 at 40.25 (FFY) which is good going as the buy price at the time was 43.5 ! It looks in reasonable shape. Figures look good here, banana prices are on the way up but people still buy them even so. They also have a surprisingly good pineapple market.. well, I never knew that! Seems good support at 40p, but I'd be out if if fell much below that.

Abcam (ABC) came up later in the evening - had a good look and think this looks a great short (Ie betting in it to go down).

So shorted this one on the spreads at 411. Everything looks in the price on this one and I think it going down looks way more likely than it going up. Indeed it almost always tops out around 410-420 and when it falls it falls fast so looking for a fall to 370, then possibly 320 where it would seem more fairly valued.

I picked up some Lavendon (LVD) at the seminar at 141 and a few more yesterday at 139.8.

Not totally sure this is the right entry price as I explained on the day as it has gone up a bit so it could easily head back to the 120s before rising again.

So if my entry in LVD is wrong and it sinks a bit I'll take a quick small loss and then come back for a new entry point. Anyway this one has been going up on very sounds fundamentals, profits are growing and it seems in a growing area. Worth a shot.

Gresham Computing (GHT) has caught my eye. Why did I buy? Well, made a few quid on it earlier this year however I came out because it just didn't move. However the other day I saw it was starting to rise and on top of that instead of one or two trades on this one every day I noticed the number of trades has been building up over the last couple of weeks.

I also noticed some of these buys were for some sizeable amounts of shares.

So I simply tagged along and bought 8,000 at 67 just before the close on Monday. Then I saw yesterday the buying really picked up with some biggish buys over 70p, some at 72 and 73p.

The buying around this share this week might mean nothing at all, however it might mean this share is about to produce some nice gains. I'll have to wait and see!

On current fundamentals they don't look a great buy - however the great thing about this one is there is a chance of the picking up a massive contracts from perhaps a bank as it specialises in ensuring financial companies that their transactions processing are all correct - a potential very big market. Anyway it's a gamble that might pay. Or might not!

And I topped up with a few more Filtronic (FTC) at 35.25. Having a great time with these.. they owe me nothing as already trebled on them. They had a good run yesterday and went up to the dizzy heights of 46 where some profit taking came in - but then there was a massive treeshake this morning down to 40 to knock out stops (I reckon). Tried to get some more on the order book but no luck. Anyway I have enough now. A statement is due at the agm on Friday. It's a risky one so if it is bad news I will have to take it on the chin. But who knows? Could be one of those that will either halve or double from here.

Finally a little top up in Vitec (VTC) at the seminar at 712. Again up massively on this one already as have bought in the 400s and 500s. This one is in a great growing market, it ditched a loss making division and I think the shares will amble up to the 800 area.

But as I kept reminding people on Friday I always try and average up, not down and while it does not always work, it works more often than not.

Molins did what I wanted and reached its 122p target so I sold at 122.1 yesterday before close to bank a nice quick profit of £326.

Portfolio Highlights

The good times roll on and the profits keep rolling in.

Apr has pushed nicely up through the 800 mark, 900 next? Probably take half profits around there.

Fenner has seen a massive leap! I think it even leapt up to 420 on Friday but I was doing a seminar so I didn't see it. If I had been at home watching it it would have been tempting to sell. Right now it has pushed way through target and if it can't push through 400 will take the profit.

My two media plays Creston and Chime both perform very well. Profits of over £3,000 in Creston and much more in Chime...in fact Chime has soared in the last week on good volumes, maybe the bid from WPP is on its way! Still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet. Chime went ex dividend today so some cash will arrive soon.

I'm over a £1,000 up on the Manchester Utd short! Take that for beating Fulham! Man U's financial report yesterday, well afraid it was an own goal and the shares continue to retreat. Not surprising, its valuation of around 1.4 bln looks over the top.

The Sporting Bet trades really have proved a great bet with profits of over £8,000 and more. Easier to make money from this company by buying its shares than betting on horses!

Sticking with Kentz has paid off with a massive move higher. 440 looks a problem area now but if it can hold above 430 after profit taking would be a good sign.

Nichols continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark.
Telecom Plus seems to be gaining traction again after a quiet spell. But it tends to do that, pleateaus for ages and then gets rerated. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000. Add in the dividends and the income has been terrific.

Longer-term oil play Coastal came up with another fantastic report - and the price has surged again and has now doubled and a half for me bringing in profits of nearly £8,000. Looks like a story to stick with for more upside. Some analysts have targets 50% higher than it is now and I think it might even have the potential to double again over a year or so.

Costain has leapt up nicely and in a decent profit now on the various trades in it. I reckon it should really be nearer 300 and maybe I will get there! It needs to tackle 250 to get higher and has gone ex dividend today, so some cash on the way and the reason it is down today.

Vectura keeps reporting good news so I'd like to stick with that for now. What to say about Dialight? It continues its brilliant progress, and my profits are well over £100,000 on it. Trying to knock above 1200 at the moment, it's struggling for that but continues to look a long-term winner with even more upside. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at near 12 quid. Averaging up in these has made me a real fortune.

It's been tempting to take final and big profits on the Lovely LOQ, and it is on the slide however given it announced potential in other countries so on that basis staying in there!

Crapetshite (sale now on!! 100% off everything!!!) continues to drive me bonkers. How on earth much longer can the robots continue to keep the price so high. My short will hopefully pay off one day. Perhaps after I have gone to meet my maker. Wonder whether they have carpets up there?

Long termer Entertainment One surprised the market last week with the buying of Alliance .. but seems like a good move - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think.

Brilliant GB Group is rising again after coming back on profit taking. I have trebled and doubled on it now, I would hope it will gradually drift up to the 100p mark by year end.

Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore which has reached target but just holding on in case it can break out though close to taking the profit there.

A reminder you can spend a day with me and live markets on October 15th. Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

£100 Tradefair offer

I've also started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply).

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..

Apologies the short table had'nt been updated for ages, webmaster had problems getting into it, it'll get sorted as soon as poss - closed trades if you missed them included profits in Afren, £290, Senior £270, Northgate loss £210, Domino loss £110, Mecom profit £2,000.
