SEPTEMBER 12, 2012
Boogie night
I look forwards to seeing some of you on Friday (14th) for the seminar. Some very interesting questionaire returns from some of you which should lead to some interesting discussions!
I don't normally hold another one till late November or early December but I had so many mails from people wanting one in October because you could not make September I have booked Monday October 15th as a date - more details below but if you couldn't make Friday's event here is your chance, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line.
Well I had a lesson at the weekend: never allow sod's law to operate on you!
There I was Saturday afternoon, thinking what a great day it had been so far..
Beautiful weather, and Christopher had scored so many goals for his age group at football they had to switch him to an agegroup 3 years older, where he scored a hat trick!
We'd then just gone for a swim and I was feeling very happy.
Good times so far and a fun party to come which I was hosting for some friend. Then in the changing room I stood up and whacked my head on a locker door.
I looked in the mirror to survey the damage, a great big gash, scratch right on the head.
I knew in that instant that the moment I chatted to anyone that evening it was going to begin with a concerned look and "what happened to your head?" Dammit!
Well, okay I could live with that, had I time to make up a T-shirt with "Don't ask I just bashed my head and I'm fine okay?" on it.
So it was a big 70s birthday bash for five people. With 200 guests. With a band. And me hosting some fun party games and the bits inbetween the music.
It would be fine. I've hosted a lot of things before, I'm used to standing up in front of people and performing.
But it did mean I couldn't drink as I was driving and would also simply start giggling and rolling under the table if I did have a bit to drink, so best not anyhow!
So I was up on stage, to warm up the audience and introduce the band. I literally had just said "Welcome to the party" when...
The Band decided to let off a smoke thing and smoke filled the stage: it's supposed to be atmospheric.
But note to band: always check to see if there happens to be a smoke detector around!
In that instant, smoke engulfed the stage and all the smoke detectors went off leaving me to warm up an audience who couldn't really hear what I was saying because of the noise.
I stood there thinking I wish I hadn't had that thought before I gashed my head.... I hastily dumped most of my carefully crafted warm up act "Anyone here from Henley..." (See I'm a class act)
And even more hastily announced the band and scarpered to let them battle the smoke alarms (their fault so they could deal with it, I thought...)
They battled well with it but it was hard going for them over the noise and I pondered climbing a ladder with a broom to knock out the alarms then realised something awful would happen.
I'd probably fall down the ladder, or the alarm would fall straight on the band knocking out the lead singer... or a real fire would start and I'd all over the national press.
"Fire sweeps through party: Man arrested for knocking out alarms".
The band's break arrived and the alarms had gone quiet. At this point I was supposed to get up on stage, take the piss out of the birthday people, cut cakes and play party games.
However the birthdays had forgotten this and I spent 20 minutes trying to round them up and eventually got them up on stage. Two of them then kind of said they were feeling a bit shy and were rather reluctant.
I started my spiel, and then I realised all too late in the middle of stories about the birthday people that.. well everyone was standing around talking to each other there was a loud buzz of talking and it was easy to see people weren't that interested, they wanted to carry on talking and sod what was happening on stage!
I went into a "guess the intro" game. One of the birthdays got Diana Ross, however due to their pissed state that was about it. Intros could not be guessed and I quickly pretended we had a winner then handed out some prizes.
I obviously then twigged I was the only sober person in the whole place .. people just wanted to chat so being a real pro (!) I quickly dumped the nearly all of the games we'd arranged to play and went straight into a dancing contest using YMCA.
Which thank goodness saved the day. I turned into a Butlins Redcoat. "Yeah come on everybody, Y M C A yeah!! That's it!! Shake your booty!" (Booty???)
And various other types of terrible dribble. "One more time... Y M C A .. yeah! I banged my head on the effing locker in the gym that's why I have a gash on my head... Y M C A !!"
By the way I hate YMCA. And I Will Survive. And... I'll stop, it's a very long list.
The band stood behind me moaning we were way behind time. Shame. I picked the first two people I could see to hand them prizes and with great relief announced the band's second set!
While that was going on I chatted to people outside. "Oh dear what happened to your head?"
I got chatting to one guy who I did know was from a mega rich family. He was a bit strange and totally incoherent then I realised the smell from his fag wasn't exactly tobacco.
I didn't really understand a word he said. I nodded and grinned politely as I could looking for a getaway. Then he gave me his glass, wandered off and came back holding a half bottle of scotch. He then swigged it neat from the bottle a few times.. then.. then... he went and put it back on the bar.... Arrrggghhhh
Hey it just goes to show being rich doesn't necessarily make you happy .. Best to avoid talking to people on something... you can never get anywhere!
The band bizarrely finished with "Let me entertain you" (70s?) I went up on stage and pretty certain I heard myself say "Thanks for entertaining US!" But hopefully I dreamt that bit.
The person supposed to be judging best fancy dress had disappeared to throw up in the gardens without telling me who the winner was so I had to improvise and pointed at someone. "Yeah the winner is the guy in the YMCA outfit!!
Then thankfully I wished everyone goodnight. "Let's all join for a final dance, yes it's Dancing Queen!!"
At this point the sound guy was supposed to have started Dancing Queen but he seemed to be struggling and there was silence. After an "awkward" time, he did get it going but very quietly.
"Turn the music up" I prompted into the mike. Now that was a pretty good 70s song!
That was a tough gig. Running seminars is way easier. I got home at 2am and realised I hadn't eaten anything. Lucky I found 2 packets of cheese and oniion.
Sunday night me and Christopher went to the health club. I stared at the locker door, did a swerve and managed to avoid being decapitated. "No, not this time, mate," I said.
However, shortly my weekend was not to finish without more drama: I was to lead a rebellion against the staff at the club.. I'll leave that as a cliffhanger for next week!
I look forwards to meeting some of you at the seminar on Friday.
I always end up enjoying them. Every one ends up being a bit different as it all depends on who is there and sometimes there are some very different roads we end up in.
Often seminars are also great for my trading as inevitably in all that time some shares come up that I might not otherwise have spotted and researched.
In the years I've been doing them I remember some fantastic ones popping on screens, the best one was the seminar where Mulberry kept appearing at 250... I remember buying the following Monday and although I sold out too early at 950 it was a tremendous profit. And the other really good one was Dialight that was 150 at the seminar and pushes 1200 now. Microgen was also a goodie I remember.
So selfishly hoping to discover something new myself on Friday! Those of you coming doors open 9.30am... follow the signs to Naked Trader..
Please come and register first from 9.30am and then find a seat - coffees will be...(there waiting for you..... And there's another load of coffee and tea and snacks due to arrive at 11am.
Hopefully something nice for lunch and then more snacks a bit later.
Please do not worry if you are late, it's easy to get delayed Mrs NT will direct you to a seat.
Grab a coffee and just relax, I promise to be gentle with you all. I hope you all enjoy the day, as it's live from the markets who knows what will come up. And as you know I talk plain English with none of that idiotic jargon. See you there!
If you couldn't make Friday's seminar the next one is less than a month away on Monday October 15th.
if you are interested in a seat mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "October seminar interested" in the subject line.
And the good news is for a short time there is a decent early bookers discount!
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!
If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Follow Up Seminars
A follow up with me will be on Friday November 16th at Heathrow. This is for those who've been to a basic seminar with me but now want to improve. So we spend a day of live markets watching level 2, order books as well as researching new shares, coming up with new ideas for longs and shorts, and well, who knows what might happen. I love these days and it usually throws up some new ideas.
Sunday December 9th is the date for another technical analysis seminar with Susan who for many years has made decent money full time by using simple TA. She will teach you all about it in an easy and simple way to help improve buy and sell decisions.
If you're interested in either or both dates, email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "follow up", or "TA interested" or "both interested".
Lots of lovely feedback on the last event including this from Janet: "Thank you so much for what was a terrific 12 hour marathon on your part. I feel like I have been through a 12 hour therapy session that has given me back some confidence. I now feel I can indeed make trading work for me, after a few years of trying and testing and not quite comprehending and co-ordinating the right ingredients. The last late session researching various companies was a real help."
And Colin: "Highlights of the day for me were Level 2 and going through the selection process to choose shares. I have followed advice from your book in the past, and it really has worked for me before, but even though I understood the concept of Level 2 I never quite saw the real benefits of it. Two minutes into your explanation of how you use it I was kicking myself. I could not believe that I had done all my trades without it! Watching you check some shares was very useful, especially the speed which you can eliminate or shortlist the numerous possibilities out there. Just watching you doing it showed me how much time I had been wasting doing the same thing but by a much more torturous process."
* The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!
Lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.
I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.
Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.
Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

I read an excellent stock market thriller on holiday,
"The Fear Index" by Robert Harris.
A maths genius joins a hedge fund and together they create a monster trading robot giving it billions to play with.
The robot starts to short everything and starts to cause massive market crashes. Then takes on a mind of its own.
Plenty of excellent page turning stuff here, if you are a trader or investor a lot of it will ring true with the robots almost already in charge of some shares!
There's tons of drama and action and I couldn't put it down though it helps as it is a thriller about the markets!
If you're into the markets you'll love it.. here's an order link to the book:

An interesting email from a reader. The thrust of it was he was going to buy a share after doing a lot of research but then it went up 12% and he hadn't bought it yet. So he felt angry.
How does he stop/halt the feelings of anger?
Well, you have to take the emotion out of trading. Which isn't easy.
I suggested he should read this book.. by Jason Zweig

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Oct 15th
Price is £590 plus vat. That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. There is currently a decent early bookers discount off that price - mail for details!
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?
£100 Tradefair offer

All those brilliant athetes, all that feel good factor, all the love.
What a fab time it would have been for the Government to say: Come on GB, let's now all go for it and show the world what we have.
For one year all taxes are reduced to 15% for lower and 30% for higher. Come on, work hard and you get to keep loads more of your money!
In my dreams right? As usual nothing much happens. They all spend energy slagging each other off and nothing gets done.
If only we could take this olympic spririt and harness it somehow.
An amazing performance by Andy Murray to win the US Open. Fantastic.
I, probably among many others thought he didn't have that kind of extra something to win a major tournament.
He just showed he has. And for the first time ever, I think he can win Wimbledon.
Compare and contrast Murray and our athletes to the effort made by the England football team last night.
Doesn't really bear comparison does it?
I'm going to be brave: everyone seems to love Dr Who. I just really don't. I used to a long time ago. But not recently.
It gets great reviews, I never heard anyone say a thing against it. So at the risk of bringing the wrath of who fans on me I'm going to be negative.
However I did decide to have an open mind so I watched the opening episode of the new series: I really hoped I would like it but...
Well, what is it? Is it a drama or a comedy? Because to me it succeeds at neither.
The Doctor now appears to be some smug smartarse and in all honestly nearing the end I was really hoping the daleks would get him.
On top of that, well isn't he a giant perv? He's millions of years old and there he is with various teenage "assistants". It looks clear to me what he'd like them to "assist" him with...
More seriously though there wasn't a single moment of tension in the whole thing. The Doctor runs about not in the slightest bit worried, and we all know no-one will get him anyway. His assistants don't seem bothered either and all spend the whole episode making feeble wisecracks.
And the daleks! I remember being scared of them. Now they appear to be a bunch of rotting old rustbuckets seemingly unable to shoot anyone at even close range.
Various people were in rooms with dozens of daleks, who shot and missed. In fact there were thousands of daleks and they didn't kill even ONE extra.
Indeed in a really quite disturbing scene a female Dalek appears to press her plunger right up against the doctor and I was really hoping this wasn't going to go any further...
The Daleks are now so feeble it won't be long I expect before you can buy a cuddly toy daleks and children will cuddle a dalek to sleep.
I would be quite happy to be in a room of daleks pretty sure I'd get away because they are such crap shots.
So there. I'm a Who denier. Go on then, bring on the daleks to exterminate me. Bet I can get them before they get me the feeble rusting piles of useless tin tubs.
Onto the X- Factor, surely by now renamed the ZZZ factor? Boring sub standard singers in a tedious karaoke contest. Cowell's time is up. Move on and take that awful red or black rubbish with you too!
At least Dragons Den, despite its admittedly tiring format still delivers. There's nothing like watching someone who managed to make a £60k profit without paying himself a salary trying to flog his company for £2 million. See the Dragons roar with anger.
However the laugh might be on them because I don't think the guy really wanted to sell the business - he wanted to give it a massive plug on the BBC and succeeded!
Indeed looking at the publicity he's had this week re his baggage transporting company he definitely "played" the dragons!
What has happened to Hilary? She looks like she was just back from some weird all night party. Maybe it was the make up but I have the feeling she would make a rather decent Dr Who monster....
The Thick of it wasn't quite as good as the last series, however even not as good is better than most other stuff. I suspect the return of Malcolm Tucker in the next episode will really get things going.
The new ITV morning show has a slogan "A start to a brand new day"
Surely: "A start to a bland new day"?
The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.

Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Agree about facebook - the youngsters who leapt onboard when it started,
posting dire photos of them doing things they shouldn't are now grown up and
getting on in their careers and errrrrr wondering if that photo of them
mooning in the disco in Majorca was a good idea!
Nice to think I am not the only unsociable grump to not want to follow the
minutiae of my friends and colleagues mostly boring lives!
I am in the states just now and feel the Starbucks asking name thing is just
more marketing bollocks to get them noticed. If they just speeded up the
service I might go there but americans seem to need all this 'service
bollocks' to make them think they are getting their moneys worth.
Thanks Anne,
well of course I agree, it's nearly all bollocks!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!
Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..
Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

Markets
Well, they continue to do well merrily now ignoring the Euro crisis well at least for now.
There was some incredibly dull live something or other in Germany this morning, I tried to watch and understand it but I was asleep within a minute and woke up after it had finished. Anyway the market seemed to think whatever it was all about was okay. (Do you reckon I'd made a good economic commentator?)
If the markets open down and the media doesn't know why they just automatically say "Euro crisis".
However getting much above 5800 is proving a bit of a problem. One would imagine at some point the index will break out of its tight range, much to the relief of day traders. It is trying to break out right now.
Not so long ago any whiff of bad news would send the market down 100 points in fear. Now any bit of bad news seems to be treated with "So what, tell us something we don't know...."
Which way it will go depends on newsflow, however with a US election round the corner I suspect a crash is unlikely (cue the great crash of September 12 !)
How much upside there is also remains in doubt - is it possible the market price is actually about right?
However none of this matters as one can make a few quid in the right stocks
The portfolio continues to do very nicely indeed however given a lot of profit taking I did recently I have some cash sloshing about.
It's very hard to buy something you already doubled and a bit on. But I don't mind continuing to scale into a share that is heading higher.
So although I am already doubled and a bit on Filtronic (FTC) yielding a profit of over £3,000 already, I have been building a bigger position over the last 3 months, and now have quite a few and the last lot I bagged was at 33. I'm trying to buy a few more today on direct market access.
There is some risk of course and it is already rated for some profits expected.. but very interesting that it is rising ahead off a likely statement near the end of the month...
It's 4G technology and its wireless division that's interesting: it seems to be growing very rapidly.
There's a lot of interest in getting really fast access to I things on the move. There's a chance Filtronic could get a re-rating. It's just broken into profit and it's only rated in the 30m area. Tech companies often attract very big ratings so the potential is here.
So that's why I've been building a larger position than I would normally with a smaller company and prepared to take the risk. The statement later this month will give clues as to whether FTC is a potential stormer or a dud.
Betfair (BET) produced a pretty lacklustre statement yesterday.. BUT it is a great business - the fundamentals are fine and it looked a chance to pick up a few near what might be a bottom so I'm in for 1,000 at 729.5. I think they should head up to 800. I might take time but I thought it was worth putting a few away here at what seems like the bottom of the range.
I wonder what the odds are of getting a profit on it? 6/4 ?
Last time I mentioned I was trading Fenner (FENR) in a range 345-395 so I will share the latest attempt at this which was a buy at 347.5 - I'm aiming for just under 400 to grab a profit. This could be an endless repeat trade!
Things could go wrong though so again I wouldn't hang about that long if sellers were to take over.
I reluctantly sold Anite at 129.5 for a profit of £213. I like it but it really doesn't want to go above 130 and it's tried a number of times. One way would be to just hold it but I suspect it will come back a bit and I'll be able to buy it back a little lower. Still, a decent company and expect to get back in.
And I've exited Hilton on an okay but underwhelming statement for a profit of £505. That's a profit banked for the site of £718.
Highlights
Recent plays are all doing okay. Apr tries hard to get through 800 though struggles. Molins is pushing up nicely.
My two media plays Creston and Chime both perform very well. Profits of over £3,000 in Creston and much more in Chime... Still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet.
Nichols continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark.
Telecom Plus seems to be gaining traction again after a quiet spell. But it tends to do that, pleateaus for ages and then gets rerated. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000. Add in the dividends and the income has been terrific.
Longer-term oil play Coastal came up with another fantastic report - and the price has surged again and has now doubled and a half for me bringing in profits of nearly £8,000. Looks like a story to stick with for more upside. Some analysts have targets 50% higher than it is now and I think it might even have the potential to double again over a year or so.
Costain has leapt up nicely and in a decent profit now on the various trades in it. I reckon it should really be nearer 300 and maybe I will get there! It needs to tackle 250 to get higher
Vectura keeps reporting good news so I'd like to stick with that for now. Kentz reported a very decent statement and has gone up nicely, in profit on some, loss on others. I think it should be way higher but its sector is still in the doldrums. It keeps trying to get over that sticky 400 area.
What to say about Dialight? It continues its brilliant progress, and my profits are well over £100,000 on it. Trying to knock above 1200 at the moment, it's struggling for that but continues to look a long-term winner with even more upside. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at near 12 quid. Averaging up in these has made me a real fortune.
Carclo reported a design delay a few days ago but that doesn't look to be too much to worry about for the moment. Massive profits are building there but again I believe there is further upside here if its CIT technology really takes off.
It's been tempting to take final and big profits on the Lovely LOQ, and it dipped a bit this week however given it announced potential in other countries so on that basis staying in there!
Crapetshite (sale now on!! 100% off everything!!!) continues to drive me bonkers. How on earth much longer can the robots continue to keep the price so high. My short will hopefully pay off though sometimes I get the feeling there could be a nuclear war and the price will still be 7 quid. "People need carpets after a war"
Long termer Entertainment One surprised the market this week with the buying of Alliance .. but seems like a good move - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think.
Brilliant GB Group has broken 80p and even went over 90p though went back under on profit taking. I have trebled and doubled on it now, I would hope it will gradually drift up to the 100p mark.
Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore which has reached target but just holding on in case it can break out though close to taking the profit there.
Well, September has been okay so far. However it's worth keeping an eye on things. I know I'm in stuff that doesn't move that fast. I'm not sure I'd want to be in much FTSE stock for now just in case.
A reminder you can spend a day with me and live markets on October 15th. Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..
Apologies the short table had'nt been updated for ages, webmaster had problems getting into it, it'll get sorted as soon as poss - closed trades if you missed them included profits in Afren, £290, Senior £270, Northgate loss £210, Domino loss £110, Mecom profit £2,000.
