POTENTIAL spreadbetting seminar
For those of you who have thought about spreadbetting but have been scared to do it, or did it and screwed up. The seminar would be about how to run sb accounts alongside your isas etc as extra tax free investments, It would not be about day trading or forex. It would
cover how to treat SB as an isa, trade medium term ranges for extra income,
sensibly use margin, run the accounts, place trades, use for shorting
and occasionally using for index trades.
If interested, just mail with "sb interested" in the subject line. If I get enough of those I will set a date - if I don't I won't!

Website update delivered to your email plus an extra
exclusive higher risk trade or two made for my sipp on update day , mail

NAKED TRADER PODCAST 3 !
>
Thanks for all the kind words on the new book Naked Trader 5 and glad you're enjoying it.
This discount code will work for 30pc off on the harriman house site
and that is NT5ROBBIE. Or Amazon has it!
It contains another five years
of learning - I've now been a full-time trader for nearly 20 years!
The audio version is out now! Go to and search
for naked trader. Scroll down and make sure you download
edition 5, the one with me with a blue shirt on!
This is the last update of the year as just after the election
we are off for some sun a long way from here - but I
will be back with regular updates again from Jan 9.
Thanks for all your mails, gossip and interest this year and
hope you have an amazing Xmas season.
Some of you asked if there will be an Xmas podcast this year, I
just haven't got round to it.
But.. instead I have re-opened the £200
competition from last year's Xmas podcast. So you can try and
find the total times "xmas" is said on the podcast and the answers
to the music questions.
You can't enter
if you entered previously or obviously won one of the prizes! If more
than one of you get it right I'll throw you in a hat and pick
a winner.
The link is here:
A lot of the comments I made still stand too and there is plenty of
fun on it including my fave Xmas hit and lots of chat about shares
and trading psychology as well as top ten party music rundown.
Deadline for entries is Jan 10th 2020 - good luck.
Great to meet so many lovely people on Monday at the seminar.
Lots of different ages, races, faces and occupations.
From a journo writing a book on Fake News, to a builder, a kids
book author, a clutter clearer helper, a pilot, anyone and everyone!
We talked everything and anything about shares though I don't think I
persuaded Jonathan his Lib Dem vote was actually a vote for Corbyn.
Sounds from the feedback you all enjoyed the day, the Xmas lunch,
the mini breakfasts and we ran out of hot chocolate!
Caterina said: "Thanks for the comprehensive notes, no fluff just the way
I like my info. Thanks to you and Elizabeth for a fabulous day. Outside the
trading info the food was great, hot drinks on tap and the extra goodies you
surprised us with all day. That's the way to run a seminar!"
Thanks Caterina and the other kind comments. Good luck to all of you.
I was amazed to see nearly everyone still there as we were heading towards
8pm! Hope you enjoyed the "reward". It was great to meet some more
of you after and to sign some books.
I wish you all the very best at the start of your trading life (some of you). And
sounds like I might see some of you again at a follow up event next year.
Look forwards to meeting some of you on Monday for the follow up more
advanced event which should be interesting three days before the election!
For those who couldn't get to Monday's seminar there is a new date which is
Feb 7th 2020. Mail me if interested at robbiethetrader with "Feb seminar interested". There is a large first ten to book discount on offer.
It's the busy time of the year - there are so many events and things to go to,
including my own events! I guess the NT xmas party will be in the bar on Monday
for those coming to the follow up!
As we're leaving early for the sun this year there is a lot to "wrap up". Cards
to send, friends to see. I am quite looking forwards to getting on the plane
to warmer climes.
Older people who have lost family and friends can get very lonely this time of
year so why not consider just once a week calling an elderly person who
would desperately like a chat?
I volunteer for Silverline. For example yesterday I chatted to my regular Vera. I call
her at the same time every week for half an hour. It's all done via an
internet call centre.
I love chatting to her (she is 89 and sharp as a tack). I learned an awful lot
about her experiences of the war yesterday.
The bombings, the air raids, the water pipes, how the nearest toilet was five
houses away. That generation really had to stand up and be brave.
We did also talk about the latest food bargains at M and S!
If you would consider volunteering go to the website to find out more.
They try and match you to someone who might share your interests such as TV
shows etc.
The main thing is to just commit to that one time per week (or more).
It is easy to give money (one click) but to commit to chat is harder and much
more rewarding. Don't think too hard about it just do it.
You'll be helping someone who rarely has human contact to feel so much better and
being lonely could happen to any of us as we age.
If you do end up being a volunteer and need any tips on how to handle the calls as I have been doing it for
nearly 5 years now let me know. Website is
The one thing we worry about going away is our two lovely cats - they need company
too and get lonely!
But lucky us - a couple we know wanted to stay in London for a while so they
are staying in our house for Xmas. And we also have back up with our neighbour
who will pop in and see them too. Phew!
If you missed the Dec seminar there is a new date for beginners/improver and
that is Feb 7th . Mail me if you want to come at robbiethetrader
with "Feb interested" There is a massive first ten to book discount at the mo.
Thanks for the continued nice feedback on that one - like this from Rob:
I was worried I had allowed my expectations top run too high but turns
out they were too low!"
Once again thanks to all of you who came to this year's seminars so far. Thanks for all the lovely comments - quite a few about the high standard of the food and snacks so well done the hotel. My faves were the mini breakfasts and the smartie cookies.
Some of you already using my supply and demand tricks to some effect and so glad to hear from one or two who dumped their crap afterwards, the hardest thing to do.
Of course it's nice to get comments just after but even better after a while. For example this from Chris:
The seminar well exceeded my expectations. I learnt a ton about trading, keeping it simple and it has given me the confidence to cut some positions. I reinvested the proceeds in a spread account and new isa and the results from using your process are exemplary!
Naked Rambling
It's nearly over. The election. Thank goodness. What
with Brexit and this, turning on the news has felt like an
imposition.
Good luck with whoever you voted for. If you're an investor
voting other than Tory will be a turkey voting for xmas. I can
understand a Lib Dem vote if you are a stauch remainer but
it is more likely to produce a hard left government.
The great thing is once it's over it is the end of false promises
- well for the moment. A tight hung parliament and we may
have to do the whole thing again soon.
Ahhh no more smears, no chance promises, bribes, endless
interviews with people trying to catch each other out.
We're all realised all the top brass are so incredibly childish and we
thought they were the adults.
Just look at Trump storming off after thinking the other heads were
bitching about him. Well, they were. The whole thing is like sixth form politics.
If Prince Andrew did the deed it would be much better if he had
admitted it. "I agree I was a stupid idiot, I didn't do anything illegal
and I am ashamed the girls were trafficked" something like that.
I'm afraid between the two of them, it's hard not to think the
trafficked woman is the one telling it as it was. (mixed tenses there?
Oh well, sod it eh!)
It isn't surprising Prince A had trouble with "recollection".
The knife attack in London was just horrible. But how courageous people
were at the scene.
What we must remember is that nearly everyone is decent. There is much
more good around than evil.
We read the awful news stories but we don't read about all the good things
that happens as it isn't news.
There is probably some "bad" in all of us. That side of us needs controlling
sometimes. This is where Twitter is so awful - it encourages trolling
and nastiness which is why I would never subscribe.
Goodness knows what it must be like to be properly famous.
I have had people write me nice email messages like they are my best mate
and then I discover these are the very people trolling me on bulletin boards
or Twitter etc. And many have tried hard to have rows with me.
I realise though some of them have split personalities because they are addicted to
some drug or other. When not on the drug as sweet as sugar. When on it, really vile.
Indeed one guy who in the morning sent me a nice mail and late at night sent
me a horrible one admitted after I said I suspected he got drunk that he was an
alkie and was sorry but he'd felt jealous and spiteful after coming
to a seminar. I suggested AA - I hope he went.
Drugs bring out the very worst in people - but in the end if the behaviour of someone on
whatever drug lands on you however hard it is, you have to sympathise not get angry.
But It's unpleasant and unnerving when strangers attack
you - it is probably best not to engage them on Twitter - "don't feed the
trolls" is a good saying. I just don't reply or engage anymore.
Gold Digger (****)
Just great silly entertainment for all the episodes except...
the last episode!! (*)
This last episode of Gold Digger is the worst of any drama I have ever seen.
(Spoiler coming if you haven't seen the last ep yet)
They'd built up the tension brilliantly but the whole of the last ep was
a terrible cop out with a breathtakingly bad "happy ending". None of this
would ever have happened in real life and our main character just comes
out looking like an idiot when she plainly wasn't.
There is no way she would have ended up with the marriage after all that
and no-one could possibly buy what happened between the brothers.
Seems like the writers spend a lot of time on the build up and no time on the ending.
All I can say is no gold was dug in this finale.
8 days (****). German show on Sky Atlantic - the premise is there are eight
days left till a meteor from space hits and obliterates Europe.
An entertaining premise and it's actually really good. I
binge watched the whole thing.
I looked at other reviewers who disagree but you have to take is as
entertainment. If you do, binge it!
Upright (*****) Sparkling original comedy from Sky Atlantic, a hidden gem.
Tim Minchen on a road trip in Australia gets mixed up with a crazy
teenager. There are many witty lines throughout. Nice work.
Most popular individual track of the year is "Senorita" from Shawn
Mendes and Camila Cabello - and indeed it is a good one.
For me, catchiest track of the year has to be "Bussdown" from Aitch.
We sing it in the car a lot. "Bussdown, she got the bussdown." Anyone
who manages to rhyme "sexy" with "correctly" gets my vote.
I suspect it probably has a rude other meaning. Best dance track for me
this year is God is a Dancer from Mabel.
A shock in the changing room at the swimming pool this morning.
I literally pretty much walked into a bloke who was, how can I put this..
blow drying his knackers, dangly bits, and then appeared to aim
the dryer at his bum.
I have no idea that people blow dry pubes and stuff maybe I am
naive. Or why you would. "Darling I wanted to make sure my
downstairs hairs looked fantastic".
Or is it that he gets some kind of sex kick out of it and in that
case have I been missing out?
Anyhow it was a horrible sight. He was still at it three mins later
after I'd changed into my speedos (what do you mean "yuk") .
SEMINAR NEWS
NEW DATE FEB 7 near Heathrow (Dec is sold out)
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "Feb seminar interested". There
is a decent early bird discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:
He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

NEW SEMINAR DATE:Feb 7 (Dec sold out)
mail me at robbiethetrader
with "Feb seminar interested" for details. Big discount on offer.
Another year gone by in a flash.
Obviously this is written pre election! The end of the year could go
horribly wrong with a Corbyn win or a close parliament.
A surprisingly excellent year with some good gains and the main thing is
I avoided any absolute stinkers. You'd normally expect one a year but not
this one.
I'm on all time highs - though I took over £250,000 out of accounts to pay for school
fees and other expenses last year.
Share of the year goes jointly to Safecharge and Entertainment One. Huge
gains from both (over £150,000 in real banked gains). They both got the
bids I was after and I feel I got the rewards through sheer patience.
Regarding patience, main gains came from the longer-term holdings.
GB Group in particular just goes up over time and profits here are well
over £100,000. Car tester Ab Dynamics also had a good year. Avon
Rubber and XP Power can also take a bow.
Worst share of the year? Probably Synt where my mistake was not to
pick up on the warning signs in its sector. I also didn't sell Cine
quickly enough. Not too much damage done but
I should have avoided the loss and should definitely have sold earlier.
However long you've been in this business you will still make mistakes and lose
a few quid from time to time. No one can be perfect.
The shorts really made a lot. Shorts in Uber and Lyft are in tremendous
profits. AO produced a great short profit and so did and does the AA.
Intu and M&S shorts also produced great gains.
How to/when to short would also be covered in a potential spreadbetting
seminar (see below).
It was really a stock pickers year. Good shares went up and bad ones went
down. If you didn't cut your losses on the bad ones, some damage
could have occurred.
It always amazes me when I see people holding onto shares forever as they
keep going down. Read some of the new stories in NT 5 !
It wasn't a year to play the indicies - they were mainly in a tight range.
Onto current trading. I remain cautious of the election so I've got
plenty of cash and made sure spreadbet accounts aren't too
leveraged. Just in case!
Whatever happens with the election it will be good to get it out of the way.
A Corbyn majority would see most shares slide dramatically. A hung
parliament, if a close one with a left wing gang up could see a modest
slide. A Tory win should see a bounce, though possibly not for the FTSE.
It's actually hard to know what the index would do right after the result as so
many companies are affected by what the pound does.
I've remained cautious then. I'd rather wait and see than do any
massive buying before the election. And I've done some more selling
to keep the cash balance high. Should the worst happen I have firepower!
I've also maintained the bet on a Lab majority as a cover. In the unlikely
event of this happening I will pick up around £200,000 in betting accounts
for my 5k stake which I hope to lose.
Obviously I will be joyous should this bet lose! But at least if the hard left
win I will get a big chunk of tax free money to cover any paper losses.
I bought some more Cohort (CHRT). We discussed this one at length at
the seminar and the more I look the cheaper it looks even after rises.
I've always made my money from averaging up and in the rare event I have
tried to average down it rarely works. So despite having to pay more than 100p more
I have got some more.
This defence company scores a lot of goals for me. Nicely diversified with
low debt even after paying out on an acquisition this one, like defence co
Avon Rubber could carry on up.
Cohort looks very well run and I suspect if there is no election nasties, a run
up to 700p then a possible 900p eventually.
I added more Ten Entertainment (TEG) .
The shares in this bowling outfit still look cheap compared to its
rival Hollywood Bowl and still looks an interesting target buyout
for Bowl.
It has cash, a very nice dividend indeed and if I was Hollywood Bowl I would
be eyeing up a takeover.
I picked up some small SimplyBiz (Sbiz) in the closing auction at the seminar. Those who
went I never noticed at the time, remember we thought I didn't get any!
I am trying to pick some up at the sell price today! Sbiz is an interesting one -
it's in the regulation area and we all know how much regulation there is
in the financial area.
It has a nice niche market and has also bought up one or two rivals. It has been
sitting doing nothing for a while - any good news early next year could see
a re-rating. Its recent buy of Defaqto looks a good one.
I shorted Trainline again (betted on it to go down).
It won't take much for this to hit the buffers. The clue is how so many
original shareholders and backers have been so keen to sell their
stakes!
They've been selling like crazy and they are right!
It's got a massive debt and very little protection against others coming into the
market. Also no surprise if it was hit by new regulations on ticket pricing. At some
point this one is going down. Mind the gap!
I keep banking some profits ahead of the election and expect to bank some
more next week. Why not as the market is having a good run and I probably
would have banked some profits anyway even without a poll ahead.
I couldn't resist topslicing a bit of Kape though I still think it should get
to 200p and I still hold a lot. I will hold firmly to the rest. Profit for the site is £5,623. I've taken a little
profit on Bbox, profit £580 and £1,179 - plus a whole heap of dividend cash. (I reckon
I get roughly £60-70,000 in dividends every year.)
I also took part profits on Knos, profit £1,718. And also banked QQ for a profit of £402.
So total website profits banked is £9,502.
Great statements from some holdings recently have really fired them up!
Solid State produced a great statement and the shares are flying up.
Also SDI motors higher. Recent buy Helios Towers has surprised which some very strong
gains and seems to show no sign of stopping.
Will there be a Santa rally this year?
Well, it didn't work out last year but
it did for a lot of years before that. It wouldn't usually start till after
the election date anyhow. A Tory win would help! You would certainly expect it to
start the week after the election if the result is favourable to the markets.
My Naked Trader Guide to Spreadbetting Ed 2 goes through how to do Xmas index bets,
the history of it all and how it all works, get it on my site above somewhere
or it is on amazon.
Normally the FTSE goes up the last ten trading days of the year and often the
Dow Jones does too.
To get away from UK politics I guess perhaps a Dow Jones Xmas rally
bet might be an alternative. If you go for it do work out your max loss before
putting on the trade by using a stop.
Remember if you put £1 stake on you make a quid every time it goes up one point
and lose £1 every point it goes down.
If you are going to do either I use for mine
as it has the tightest index spreads.
Be careful where you put stops as the index trades outside market hours usually
with a bigger spread. Good luck!

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
