Stop press: Dec 2 seminar sold out - new date Feb 7th
email at robbiethetrader with "Feb seminar interested".
I shall be seeing quite a few of you shortly for the beginners/improvers
and the follow up seminars on Dec 2 and 9. I have set up a special
Xmas lunch at both events with turkey and the trimmings!
Those of you coming on the 2nd, thanks so much to those of you who
filled in the questionaires, makes it easy to know where to pitch things.
Some amazing people coming judged by the answers from all walks of life,
all ages, all countries which is what I love. If you are coming do get to know
others in the break and over lunch.
And the usual mini full englishes in the first break so
basically don't eat too much before you arrive!
Hope you all have a super day, I can't wait as I love teaching and meeting
brilliant people.
There is a bit of space left if you want to come to either, mail
me at robbiethetrader for details and come and spend a day
with me and a (what looks like!) a lovely group.
Turn left and walk to the end of the corridor for registration and remember to
give your car reg to reception before you go to get the free parking.
Talking food I was in Tescos the other evening.
Look, ok, I know this isn't exactly the most inspiring opening sentence
to a story and I wouldn't blame you if you skipped the next..
For the one of you left I had a revelation about branding that night.
It all started when I was about to buy some Weetabix. Next door was
a pack of Tescos own brand "Wheat Biscuits".
Weetabix was almost two quid more. I looked carefully at the ingredients
in both. Hang on. Exactly the same. Nutrition boxes? All the same!
Weight? The same. Size. The same.
Hang on then. IT IS THE BLOODY SAME THING. Weetabix must
just make it for Tescos and just stick it in a different box. That is it. Tescos
own brand for this from now on. I'm just paying extra for the brand.
Then I thought about other brands I buy without a thought and the amazing
power of brands. I suspect most of us would stick with the brand even if we
know it's the same as the own brand. Amazing really.
I checked the expensive Paul Smith jumper I paid £180 for. I looked up
one that looked to have the same wool etc and paid £45.
It looked and felt the same apart from one orange stripe along the top.
I don't mind paying top dollar if a brand really gives you something lovely.
And I know it sounds crazy paying £22 for a bottle of bubble bath. But
Molton Brown is just so lovely. Wonderful smells. Luxury indeed.
Plus it is all made in this country. Buy yourself some for Xmas! Best
smells for me are Suede Orris, Orange and Bergamot and Geranium Nefarium.
And Molton Brown is actually made in the UK!
A visit to Birmingham for an away game. Way different from Stoke. Lovely
stewards with a great sense of humour. And we even won the game (bit of
luck here and there).
I've always found Brummies to be great fun and friendly and they
didn't disappoint.
The Bull Ring town centre shopping centre was buzzing. A nicely
designed space with the station at the bottom of it all.
Lots of great shops, nice atmosphere.
I have devised a punishment for my son if he does anything naughty that has sent
shivers down his spine. He really doesn't want this punishment so I think he will
be good for the foreseeable.
The punishment?
Being forced to go and watch the movie Frozen 2.
If you missed the Dec seminar there is a new date for beginners/improver and
that is Feb 7th . Mail me if you want to come at robbiethetrader
with "Feb interested" There is a massive early bird discount at the mo.
Thanks for the continued nice feedback on that one - like this from Rob:
I was worried I had allowed my expectations top run too high but turns
out they were too low!"
Once again thanks to all of you who came to this year's seminars so far. Thanks for all the lovely comments - quite a few about the high standard of the food and snacks so well done the hotel. My faves were the mini breakfasts and the smartie cookies.
Some of you already using my supply and demand tricks to some effect and so glad to hear from one or two who dumped their crap afterwards, the hardest thing to do.
Of course it's nice to get comments just after but even better after a while. For example this from Chris:
The seminar well exceeded my expectations. I learnt a ton about trading, keeping it simple and it has given me the confidence to cut some positions. I reinvested the proceeds in a spread account and new isa and the results from using your process are exemplary!
Naked Rambling
The lesson from Prince Andrew's interview is if you have been accused of
something and you're trying to defend yourself think twice before using TV.
It's an unforgiving medium. In fact don't have anything to do with appearing
on TV (unless you're an actor).
Trouble for the prince is, if he didn't do it, he came across as if he
probably did. This "no recollection" business doesn't wash. Maybe
he's just in denial.
If he did do it, best for him to be honest. "Yes I had sex with her. I
never realised she was trafficked, I am now ashamed of myself and my
actions when I was younger and I'll work with charities in the field
and I am so sorry."
He came across as a cold hearted guy with limited experience of the
real world and no empathy at all for anyone.
In the end he is probably just a prat rather than being particularly evil.
Actually forget the probably bit.
What happens if he retires? Does he end up in a small house getting his dinner
from Tescos and spending the day watching "Cash in the Attic"?
Oh brother. Still weeks to go till the election. We are all sick and
tired and bored of it.
In the borough I will be voting, Richmond, in previous elections there were
Lib Dem and Tory banners everywhere. (Never any Labour round these
parts).
Cycling around the place yesterday I passed 100's of homes. Just
two banners. This really shows election tedium has set in.
We look at our TV's and groan at then fantasy promises made by all that
you know for a fact will never be delivered.
Obviously the most ludicrous one the free broadband. It will never happen and
it's just a gimmick someone wrote on the back of a beer mat.
The "debate" on ITV was simply terrible. The whole format was awful. As
were Johnson and Corbyn who had obviously been told not to bother
answering questions and just repeat key phrases.
I guess we were lucky the shouty Lib Dem leader wasn't there.
It will be over at some point won't it. The day after I shall be on a plane
to the mid east for some sun. Can't wait to get out of here! And in that
vein...
I'm A Celebrity (****). The one and only show left that we can watch together
as a family! As those of you with teens are aware they won't watch TV as
they are used to 30 second clips on their phone. So at least we get
three weeks of a family on the sofa. Of course it is same old same old
and on my own I would probably fast forward a lot. They does need to
be some manufactured tension soon though.
Gold Digger (****) Entertaining age gap relationship drama as young man plans
to marry to make money, or so his would be wife's family reckons. The only
downside appears to be a lack of chemistry between the leads - apart from that
just buy into it - the supporting family characters could develop into
something interesting too.
Cold Call (*****) A big surprise here. A drama.. on Channel 5! Bound to be
rubbish surely? But it was really good! A topical tale of a down to earth woman
who gets scammed for £83,000. She decides to get revenge on the scammer in
an unlikely but who cares string of events which leads her to care for his
dementia suffering Mum. The way of the scammers was well observed in fact
take a look and see how easy it is to be scammed. Never ever tell anyone your pet's name.
I would never tell anyone about my wonderful cat Jacob for example.
Part-time "Santa Claus"-es must be getting ready to earn some extra money.
Yet another rip off for parents.
Pay a tenner to "visit Santa". Child tells Santa
he wants an I Phone.
Santa says "Here's a plastic toy worth
a quid made by child labour in China. Think yourself lucky. Now p1ss
off."
SEMINAR NEWS
NEW DATE FEB 7 near Heathrow (Dec is sold out)
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "Feb seminar interested". There
is a decent early bird discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:
He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

MARKETS
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
NEW SEMINAR DATE:Feb 7 (Dec sold out)
mail me at robbiethetrader
with "Feb seminar interested" for details. Big discount on offer.
Follow up: For those who have been to the starter seminar Dec 9th
mail me with "follow up interested"
All seems good so far as we slowly and painfully have to endure more weeks
of fantasy politics from politicians shiftier and definitely sweatier than Prince Andrew.
But of course there is an election coming up. The bookies at the moment reckon
the likeliest events are a Tory majority or another hung parliament.
A Labour/left wing alliance would see the market getting many mark downs.
A Labour majority would see a market meltdown. While it is very unlikely
us investors must realise it is not impossible and apart from being half
in cash I came up with what might seem a crazy idea.
I have bet on a Labour majority with the bookies at prices between 35 and 50-1
- and I really want these bets to lose which is a bit weird.
My thinking is for a small amount of money which will almost
definitely be lost I would get a massive
amount back should the unthinkable happen.
For example I suspect I would on paper anyway lose a lot even being half in
cash should Labour win.
Anyhow I've roughly so far got three grand at big prices on a Lab win which
would yield something like £125,000.
It was quite hard to get that lot on as bookies will only take smaller bets at big
prices - but Spreadex allowed me the biggest amount offering me 35-1
for £1,000.
So I expect to lose 3k which in the scheme of things for me (I know I am lucky)
is nothing - but should the worst happen, well at least I have £125,000 arriving
tax free which could well cover most paper losses on shares!
Maybe I'm mad but I think this works!
Spreadex's price is now 22/1 which means I can "cash out" the bet for a profit
of nearly £1,000 ! Hmmm.. I think I will hold on for now... still nearer the time..
Moving out of betting madness I am still looking for value despite nervousness
ahead of the election.
I've bought some Team 17 (TM17) yet another to come out of the very
fruitful follow up seminar!
This company is a global games label and developer of indie premium games.
Profits are booming here and it also has a decent cash pile.
The company says it has getting strong customer traction from new and
established games and expects revenues to be ahead of market expectations.
I'm struggling to find what not to like except perhaps games might be a fickle thing.
And there doesn't seem to be a dividend.
This one has really ticked a lot of my boxes and try as I might as I always do to find
reasons not to buy, this one was not to be resisted.
So you can now count me in as a member of Team 17! Well for now.
Remember, I am not a team player!
Vianet (Vnet) looks an interesting one and I have also bought in here in
fact I literally bought just now!
The downside is this market cap of just under £50m is usually about my
min and this is a touch below so I am careful not to buy too much.
It can be hard to get out of bigger stakes on the small ones so I will never get
enough on to make it a big win, but for now a small stake for fun.
The other potential downside is it is close to a high so could be some profit
takers out there.
But there does appear to be some upside potential here. Vianet provides real-time
monitoring systems and data management services for the leisure and vending arena.
It has a core beer monitoring business and gaming machine monitoring, I think this
is a nice area.
Debt looks low and it has a nice dividend of nearly 4pc and it looks like my favourite
stick it in the isa and forget about it style of share.
Pick up the dividend and at some point it might gain traction for capital gains too.
And in a lovely touch of irony guess when results will be - yes you guessed it -
election day!
So despite current uncertainties with the election I am happy to pick up these two!
I've done some averaging up! Ignore all the people who average down, nearly always a
mistake, indeed it has been for me almost always if I do it!
I bought some more Kape Tech (KAPE) after an acquisition which totally transforms
it and makes it a whole lot more valuable.
Indeed I liked what I saw so much in reality I bought roughly another £50,000
worth - for the website though I will use a much lesser amount as usual.
The acquisition will be immediately earnings enhancing and should turn Kape
into a much bigger company. Private internet access market is growing nicely
and this suits Kape a lot.
I think the market may soon see Kape shares
are now worth a lot more than the current market valuation.
As time goes on, value should keep on appearing and I would hope this is
one that could have a massive upside over a year or so and they could progress
up to the 200p area.
I also added some more of the amazing Avon Rubber (AVON). Now a massive
winner for me which has doubled and more it looks like there is a lot more
still to come.
The future looks very bright for Avon as the demand for its products continues
to be strong and I am now targetting a rise to 2400. Anything under 2000
now looks a good entry price.
This afternoon I sold my 3,500 shares in Argentex for a profit of £1,078.
Its statement yesterday
was fine but there isn't much buying pressure at the mo so I thought I may
as well bank a fairly quick 25% profit.
The market doesn't like Cine and I have sold for a loss of £2,459.
I've kept it on watchlists though and perhaps when it
comes into market favour again I'll buy back. Same comment to the last of the Synt which
never really convinced and the final lot of that has gone for a loss of £774 and
the rights for a profit of £624.
I've closed the Aston Martin short for a profit of £1,290.
Part of the AO short has been closed for a profit of £2,900. They both seem
to have found a bit of a floor to their prices for the moment.
I seem to have some aph knocking about, it has done nothing for so long I forget
they are there so closed some of the site positions for profits of £2,470.
All of which profits and losses adds up to a total profit of £5,129.
Though as someone pointed out I actually haven't updated the website profit
totals for 3 years so in reality website profits are nearer £2 million than £1 million!
Elsewhere some decent gains for the portfolio with good contributions from
various including the recent buy of Qinetiq which soared shortly after I
bought with an excellent trading statement.
Finally, I didn't do it, whatever it was. I have no recollection of whatever it
was I was supposed to have done and anyway whenever it was,
I was definitely in Pizza Express in Woking.
Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
