You think trading is hard?

Try taking 15 children to a premier league football game....!

At the end of it all me and the Mrs felt like we had been run over by a steamroller...

The boys gradually arrived at our place close to Fulham FC. Grateful parents dropped them off and they were already hyper.

Luckily the pinball machine took care of some of them while table football occupied others however the ones in the garden were making horrible "fighting" noises which we did our best to ignore and hope for the best...

Lucky the Mrs used to be a teacher. She sat them all down before we went and organised how we were going to not get anyone lost.

She'd already spotted the two most badly behaved and showed them who was boss and that she had already nailed them.

I was in charge of half the gang, the Mrs the other gang. We tentatively left for the game in stops and starts trying to stop some of them racing ahead while getting the ones behind to keep up.

Being seven of course they can't concentrate on anything for more than 30 seconds, same as me!

Not quite sure how we got them to the turnstiles all together but we did. They then drove the queue crazy by trying to put their tickets into the machines the wrong way up or upside down which took a lot of sorting out..

Then somehow, still not sure how we got them to their seats. Phew!! They amused those around us by shouting out for Fulham.

Our best defender got sent off providing a chance for the boys to shout at the ref.

Meanwhile one or two decided to have a a little wrestle/fight with each other. Mrs NT did well with a brilliant teacher style intervention or two. I decided to keep low, pretending I had nothing at all to do with them.

Great to see reader Brian at half time with his seven year old Patrick - they flew in from Ireland for the game - we only met for a couple of mins as they were at the other end of the stadium.

But hopefully next time they visit when there is just me and Christopher and they can come for a cup of tea before the game. Sorry we didn't get the chance for more than a brief chat Brian but hope you had a good journey back to Ireland,

The lads settled down over half time as we handed out rolls and crisps etc.

Then they started fooling about again and I think me and Mrs NT were watching the clock counting down before the whole lot of them descended into wrestling with each other.

Although we lost the game 3-1 mainly because our best defender had a rare crazy moment and got sent off at least we had one goal to cheer and the boys went crazy.

All in all despite the fact we are still tired out from a mad day we really loved it.

It was great to see boys being boys (we ignored a lot of health and safety) , Christopher having such great fun and sharing the game with his friends.

We stayed inside the ground to let the main crowds go first to help us not to lose them. Again plenty of laughter from fans at our "brood".

I joked with many that I wish I had never had 15 kids with the Mrs. Actually I think one or two of them even believed me!

Just brilliant seeing the kids let go enjoying being kids before being weighed down by all the responsibilies of adulthood. Loved it and we will do it all again next year. But, er maybe next time we'll take a couple of adults with us!

Oh, Christopher got a good mention and his picture in the programme and was so inspired he scored two for his club side.

For his birthday I got him the "Berbatov" shirt he wanted - one happy kid!

Well, we have had a crazy few weeks - our massive road trip to the states then our football day out - I guess things will settle down now till Xmas - this year we aren't going away to S Africa like we have done the last two years. I think the massive US trip is enough for now!

I thought I would relax with this one and read it over a week but it had me so gripped I read it in a day - it is just one of those page turners - you can't wait to read what happens next!
In this one Jim is asked to donate mega money to a scientist who has developed a way to elongate life by decades.

However part of the plan involves killing off an awful lot of people. Well, how many people would you kill to live to 300? It's a rip roaring, exciting read. If you're into trading especially worth buying Clem's series of Jim Evans books starting with The Armageddon Trade. So.. a very entertaining thriller which I highly recommend. If you lost money trading just comfort yourself with the fact that you didn't lose over a billion like the UBS rogue trader.

But how on earth did his bosses not spot this - surely after Nick Leeson and various other gambling mad addicts have screwed things up they should have had systems in place to spot it before it gets so bad?

It was so much money in this day and age how did he get away with it?

The other point is these aren't "traders" they are gamblers! They are gambling with the bank's money. If he had ended up getting into profit he would have ended up with a pat on the back.

It's his bosses that should get sent to jail. Somehow these crazy gamblers need to be pulled back. No wonder we continually get in a financial mess.
Only the silly old farts that run the churches could really have voted against women bishops.

Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Well, despite some sudden dramatic moves here and there when all is said and done at the end of the day cliche cliche etc the markets are going nowhere really up or down.

Doesn't really matter much to stock pickers because good stocks can still do well and we can still make money out of shorting bad ones.

But right now there is nothing much to push the market way higher but also nothing much to push the market way lower. The question now is, will we get a santa rally this year? Here's hoping!

It's thanksgiving coming up in the states so it's likely to be a very quiet end of week on the markets which suits me just fine! In fact I have been quiet myself kinda hoping for a market drop to buy some cheap stuff ahead of a possible Xmas rally.

I noticed late yesterday Optos (OPTS) had slipped quite dramatically but what was interesting is firstly they had slipped to an area where support had come in a few times, and secondly a statement was due today.

Given today's statement would have to have been really bad for the shares to fall more and I couldn't see any real bad news in its previous update I took the chance and bought some late on yesterday getting 167.75 and 168.5. They have risen a bit on the statement as I write though not as much as I thought they would after the statement as there still seems a seller about.

The statement was fine and it looks cheap under 190p ish - if its Daytona sales can really get going it could be a future star. I should think at the very least it will hit the 210 area again. There seems to be a seller keeping the price back at the mo, so they may need to clear before any rises.

I bought back Filtronic (FTC) at just over 31. Took some very decent profits on this recently and held onto some from 16p. this looks a good time to get back in after its fall. It its 4g business works out could easily be worth double, but there is some risk too.

MS (MSI) hit its stop and was sold averaging around 234 for a loss of £304 but I have bought back this week at 215. Statement is due any day so a bit risky but it's a small trade really so I could survive if things aren't good. However things would have to be very bad for it to be rated much lower given its strong cash balance.

Lavendon hit its stop averaging 134 for a loss of £ 349. Its statement was okay though and looking for a reentry point sometime.

I sold some of the Corin as a counter bid looks unlikely and will probably sell the rest soon - doesn't seem worth waiting for the extra 1p on the bid so I sold the 17,000 shares at 69 on Monday for a profit of £1,258 leaving 10,000 shares left.

Quite a few shares reporting in the last week or so....

A reminder I've been a Telecom Plus distributor for many years so it is the one share I would say I was emotionally involved in and biased!

Telecom Plus issued its half year report, all appears on track with the best sign being the massive lift in the dividend providing a handy yield. I get massive cheques twice a year and it is a great income. I think this one will just continue to grow and grow and one day will be in the ftse 100. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000.

I am really lucky and have the option to buy another 4,000 shares at an option price of just 164 which if I bought and sold would give me an instant profit of nearly £30,000. I have to buy them by February so I shall be sending off my cheque very shortly!

Aga reported and it was some surprise the statement was pretty decent, not what the market was expecting and so the shares have been rising.,

Long termer Vectura also reported - a good pipeline here and it has tons of cash - could be a future very big star and hoping to hold on longer term.

Carclo also reported - at first glance it looks pricey but its CIT technology looks a winner and the shares could easily have a massive run up from here given time and patience. Nice profits on this one.

Good report also from Chime which looks solid - still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet

Dialight has risen strongly again after revealing this week it had won a decent new order, directors have been buying too - another one I just continue to hold long term and not worry about the ups and downs. Profits are well over £100,000 on it. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at over a tenner.

The Vitec Group's report showed the recent weakness hasn't been justified and I think they will improve again from here.
Trifast has held nicely at higher levels, can it make that push up into the 50s ? I still think it is terribly cheap under 60p. If its next statement continues the good news a rerating up into the 60s is possible bringing with it big percentage gains.

Coastal went down today after a takeover approach ended - but the approach price was way too low and actually for shareholders I think it is good news as this company continues to grow I would rather let things take their course and get a bid in six months that is way higher! Potential top up actually if it goes down much further.
Direct Line has proved a nice winning trade. I guess I might be tempted to bank some profit if it heads much over 200 but there is a good dividend and it might turn into a decent long-term winner.

Iomart is doing really well, not sure whether it can clear the 200 level, nice profit could be more there.

An. continues to motor up and must be seen as a bid target now after rejecting a low ball offer.

LOQ shares which announced a brilliant contract win in the Netherlands - massive profits in this one where I have trebled my money but I feel more to come! It has cracked 300 for sure, can it get to 400?

St Ives holds very nicely above 100 and needs to tackle 106 to head higher.

In the shorts department Abcam cracked sits around 360 so a nice short profit. Carpetshite continues to devy gravity or any explanation as to why its shares are rated like a tech company's.

Sepura continues to go for it. Nichols continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark. Long termer Entertainment One holds its own after a decent though not spectacular report. I think investors do forget about the valuation of its library which is massive, underpinning its share price. - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think. Could well take a while though and eventually I think it will be taken over.

GB reports next week, had a very good run so it is kinda tempting to bank a little of the profit and one wonders if as usual the price might go down even if the report is good.
Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore which has soared higher and paid a dividend too! Though it isn't moving much for now.

Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
