Great to be back though a fantastic road trip in America!
It's Christopher's birthday this weekend and his birthday party is at... the Fulham Vs Sunderland game !
Yes, me and the Mrs are taking fifteen 7-year-olds to the game. Just two of us and 15 of them!
Our main aim is not to lose any of them and try and get them to and from the loos at half time! Hopefully the lad's birthday will flash up on the screen and half time and he should be in the programme too.
It's live on Sky so see if you can spot us - look out for 15 cheeky monkeys and two worried looking adults!
The birthday "meal" is at half time! I think the parents are quite pleased as they can leave them with us an hour before the game so they get three hours off....
I guess it will be a birthday to remember for him.... tell you how it went next week!
We had the most amazing holiday in the USA - so brilliant and we are still taking it all in and are just about getting over the terrible jet lag.
Great start with a superb BA flight in business class. The flight smooth and the food surprisingly good!
We arrived at our first stop - that's Atlanta.
However getting to the first hotel proved a painful process.
Yes. We learned a lesson at the hire car place in Atlanta... don't say "yes" when they offer to put your first destination into the GPS.
She said she put the address of the first hotel, the Marriott Atlanta in so we followed the directions.
Soon though it was weird, the journey was supposed to be 20 minutes but 20 minutes later we appeared to be in the middle of nowhere on a dark road. The GPS was adamant we were going the right way.
But I grew suspicious when it said expected time of arrival was.. in ten hours!!!
I sussed it. She had typed in the Marriott Hotel all right but one in Indianapolis hundreds of miles away...
Lucky we didn't follow the instructions any further!
We turned round and typed in the Atllanta Peachtree drive and got there eventually.
An amazing hotel 45 floors with lifts like a fairground ride.
Lovely people in Atlanta. Very helpful, kind and polite. And great service - completely the opposite to London I am afraid.
The bits of Atlanta we went to seemed prosperous , plenty of jobs around. Loads of conferences at the hotel the major one being Chest 2012 (no not THAT sort of conference!)
Hundreds of chest specialists from all over the US meet to discuss, er, chests.
Probably the safest place ever that weekend to have a heart attack. Just walk right into the conference and there are hundreds of top chest docs on hand!
We had a good two day wander around, Atlanta is doing well from what we could see. Great hotel pool.
We drove from Atlanta down to Savannah - about 4 hours. What a pleasant surprise we stayed at the Bohemian, Savannah - a super river front hotel with great river views.
Savannah is a fascinating place - full of history - the highlight was an open bus tour. Do it if you go there.
The place has a lovely old fashioned feel about it with some amazing architecture.
Great food at The Pink House restaurant, we went both nights we were there.
Savannah has been hit a little by the recession : there are a few empty shops, however the hotels looked full and there was plenty of commerce with shipping its biggest industry.
A big student population so of course plenty of bars and clubs - our hotel had a rooftop club.
I would have loved to have done a bit of dancing on the roof but sadly for me I am way out of that age range now. ("Put your hands up if you're hot right now" - hey I was hot in 1990 !)
From Savannah back on the road again we hit Jacksonville where our cousins live, so we spent time at their great house with its own pool. Christopher got an American Football shirt and had sleepovers with his cousin Matthew and they had a laugh together.
Then onto Orlando where we stayed at the magnificent Ritz Carton Orlando, a real top hotel with amazing rooms, service and the fab "lazy river".
Me and Christopher enjoyed many afternoons of going round and round in its gentle currents. We ended up swimming during a storm too and got drenched...
The hotel hosts lots of conferences - while we were there there was a top laywers conference, one for retailers who wanted to study retail law, top speaker was the head of Starbucks.
They work hard and play hard, many conferences start at 6am and then in the evening they party and network. All pretty impressive.
We had a couple of days at Disneyland - Christopher's cousin came over and they both had a great time! Our cousins bought us a great surprise, a guide for the day so we could go from ride to ride, amazing and so generous of them.
I managed to duck out of a lot of the rides but did do "splashdown", yikes! That was a splash... Christopher fearlessly did all the scary rides including "Everest" ...
After a day or two after that we lazed about the lazy river in Orlando then headed down south for even warmer climes in Sarasota.
This turned out to be a great move: Sarasota proved warm sunny and lovely after the high winds from the far edge of Hurricane Sandy had gone. We weren't affected by the hurricane except for a couple of days of severe winds.
On the first day though the pool was freezing cold, so we complained. Then Mrs NT decided to have a mini rant at why the hotel wasn't as good as most Ritz Carltons.
This led to an upgrade to a huge suite! Well done that lady!
Oh and we also get various gifts sent up like cheese and grapes .. !
The hotel has a beach club ten mins drive away so we spent time down there on the lovely beach with some beautiful birdlife.
Christopher played away happily on the sand.
We ended up nearly every night at a brilliant restaurant "Crab and Fin" between the hotel and the beach. Excellent seafood and meat too, just could not fault the place, simple decicious fare.
Halloween night was fun. They are crazy over it there - 100's of kids dressed up and many parents too going from shop to shop to collect sweets. Christopher joined in with gusto but we tried to bin as many collected items as we could the next day!
We then moved back to Jacksonville to spend a weekend with cousins and what a weekend!!
We had a great time in their pool and their lovely house - Christopher and Matthew had a brilliant time together and so did we with the adults!
They treated us to an American Football game which is quite some spectacle...
The game lasts around 3 hours and it is more showbiz than sport!
Marching bands, dancing girls, competitions, something going on all the time. Also an incredible "flypast" by a jet just before the game. Oh and also fireworks and loads more entertainment.
Also any food you fancy in a massive arena. Sadly the local team the Jags are having a terrible season and lost the game with many of the fans booing them. However I was told that was okay as they will have their pick of better players for next season!
American football is a bit like chess - it is stop and start and tactics. The game HAS to stop every few minutes... for TV commercial breaks!
I think our friends will be rather surprised if they come over next year to see a Fulham game, all they will get if they are unlucky is a Fulham hot dog!
What an experience it all was. Enjoyed it all.
We said some fond farewells and hope to stay in touch with them much more on Skype - woud be great for Christopher to stay in touch with his cousin Matthew. We will see them again next year!
We then headed north to Greensboro in Georgia where we stayed at the amazing Ritz Plantation Lodge ...
A beautiful place right by a lake with an infinity pool overlooking the lake. Christopher loved it as he could run around the massive grounds free as a bird.
Also a fantastic spa and one of the highlights was roasting marshmellows by the open fire at night.
A massive conference was going on for Malibu boats which builds and sells boats - no recession in their industry - we got talking to them round the fire and they are selling boats easily.
They worked and partied hard all day and night!
Well, it was time to head back to Atlanta for our flight home.. which being British Airways Club Class was rather nice!
Flat beds meant we all got some sleep - some decent food too - you have to hand it to BA - good service and a great flight.
Obviously probably not so nice in economy but remember I don't spend on cars or bling so I don't see why I shouldn't spend some of my gains on luxury travel !
The flat beds did not stop us getting jet lag though and still just about catching up with UK time...
We will probably do another US trip next year as we love it there.
Service is amazing there and the food was good too as long of course as you avoid the horrible fast food joints.
People will just help you there for example at Atlanta airport they will help you with your cases on and off the bus - this just wouldn't happen at Heathrow. (Health and safety!) The airport is miles ahead of Heathrow in every sense.
Also impressed with people generally and their attitude. Of course it would all be different in somewhere like New York but where we went it was all rather jolly.
One thing not so impressive is the driving over there. We noticed from day one lorries and cars suddenly swerving from one lane to another endangering all around them.
We thought at first they were falling asleep but amazingly some were texting while driving! Crazy! And many on the phone the whole time.
No laws against this in some states - we saw quite a few smashes. One smash closed the motorway for hours - almost certainly caused by a driving texter or phoner. They need to sort this out urgently.
Right that is enough.. sure I could go on longer but it can't be very interesting reading about someone else's holidays!
I hope to see some of you soon at my next seminar which is getting closer, it is on Friday November 30th.
if you are interested in a seat mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with November seminar interested" in the subject line.
I can just about offer a discount still but it is about to be gone! Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!
If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Follow Up Seminars
A follow up with me will be on Friday November 16th at Heathrow. This is for those who've been to a basic seminar with me but now want to improve. So we spend a day of live markets watching level 2, order books as well as researching new shares, coming up with new ideas for longs and shorts, and well, who knows what might happen. I love these days and it usually throws up some new ideas.
Sunday December 9th is the date for another technical analysis seminar with Susan who for many years has made decent money full time by using simple TA. She will teach you all about it in an easy and simple way to help improve buy and sell decisions.
If you're interested in either or both dates, email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "follow up", or "TA interested" or "both interested".
Lots of lovely feedback on the September event including this from Janet: "Thank you so much for what was a terrific 12 hour marathon on your part. I feel like I have been through a 12 hour therapy session that has given me back some confidence. I now feel I can indeed make trading work for me, after a few years of trying and testing and not quite comprehending and co-ordinating the right ingredients. The last late session researching various companies was a real help."
And Colin: "Highlights of the day for me were Level 2 and going through the selection process to choose shares. I have followed advice from your book in the past, and it really has worked for me before, but even though I understood the concept of Level 2 I never quite saw the real benefits of it. Two minutes into your explanation of how you use it I was kicking myself. I could not believe that I had done all my trades without it! Watching you check some shares was very useful, especially the speed which you can eliminate or shortlist the numerous possibilities out there. Just watching you doing it showed me how much time I had been wasting doing the same thing but by a much more torturous process."
* The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!
Lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.
I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.
Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.
Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:
http://www.tradefair.com/promo/spreads/nakedtrader100/
I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Nov 30th
Price is £590 plus vat. That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. There is currently a decent early bookers discount off that price - mail for details!
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Nov seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?
£100 Tradefair offer
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply)

Naked Rambling
Ever since it paid Jonathan Ross £18m for a mediocre chat show I wondered about the management.
His resignation was the right thing - on a salary like that if you are not across something so big and obvious it is curtains.
Though quite why we fee payers have to pay so much to him is bizarre. Working for the BBC should be a priviledge. And that big "Payoff" - his payoff alone is more money than some people will see in their entire lifetime.
How's about from now on no-one at all at the BBC is allowed to earn more than £100k?
The temporary DG was terrible in an interview with Sky News, he practically walked out near the end when he didn't like the questions...
Time to get someone new in, from outside the BBC. I wonder if Lord Sir Alan would be interested. Go on Sir A, do it for nothing!
The funniest thing about it was seeing the BBC News.. reporting live from... er, well outside their own studios. Bizarre.
Terror suspect gets away with it again. I would get the SAS out to grab any hate preachers, haul them in to a copter and dump them somewhere far far away... or preferably into something like.. how about an alligator swamp?
Got an absolute load of TV to catch up on as we didn't watch any at all during the road trip to the States.
Caught up on Homeland first - the best series since the Sopranos, full of brilliant twists and turns and deserves any awards coming its way.
Tried the new version of Sex and the City called Girls, not quite sure what to make of it yet but at first watch seems like good fun.
I'm a c***, get me out of there is back... full of the usual mix of ghastly egos and desperate for publicity has beens.
Reader Robert suggested a bet on Tom Baker at 20-1, he reckons Dr Who fans will vote for him, seems an interesting idea and so for £20 for a bit of fun at a big price...
I usually take a week to warm to it, but it always seems to come up with the goods... somehow ...
The Tory MP taking part just sums up the awful breed of current politician. Yerrrgggghhhhh.
I just can't be bothered with Strictly or the X Factor, a real case of why do I want to watch the same thing over again with slightly different people?
Um, there appears to be five unwatched episodes of Downton Abbey sitting there, the Mrs hasn't noticed yet... dare I press delete?
Surprisingly Harry and Paul are great value hidden away on BBC 2 Sunday evenings, always a chuckle in there.
It's reported this week the average willie length is the same as a £20 note.
Hey, where are you off to?
I know, off to the bathroom with a twenty eh?
I'm quite happy ... of course...
I'm a £50 note kinda guy ...
The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.
http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Agree about facebook - the youngsters who leapt onboard when it started,
posting dire photos of them doing things they shouldn't are now grown up and
getting on in their careers and errrrrr wondering if that photo of them
mooning in the disco in Majorca was a good idea!
Nice to think I am not the only unsociable grump to not want to follow the
minutiae of my friends and colleagues mostly boring lives!
I am in the states just now and feel the Starbucks asking name thing is just
more marketing bollocks to get them noticed. If they just speeded up the
service I might go there but americans seem to need all this 'service
bollocks' to make them think they are getting their moneys worth.
Thanks Anne,
well of course I agree, it's nearly all bollocks!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!
Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..
Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.
I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.
ADVFN level 2 offer
First great deal: If you want level 2, through me it is only £350 for your first year including VAT!
This compares to £473 direct from advfn inc vat so this deal saves you over a whopping £120! ADVFN level 2 also includes all the live trades made through Plus Markets which I find invaluable.
To accept this great deal just e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Level 2 offer" in the subject line and I will tell you how to get it. Level 2 gives you access to all the market maker positions and the order book and I would not trade without it!
More on level 2 in my book and I spend hours on it at my seminars. So if you get level 2 and want to learn how to use it properly live, book my seminar!
ADVFN Bronze Offer
To take up the offer, e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with Bronze in the subject line and I will tell you how to claim the deal.
Bronze is included inside the level 2 deal.
Advfn Silver Exclusive Offer

Markets
Goodness me it has been a while since I had to write a market report. Feels like work! That can't be good?
With jet lag it feels a bit of a strain to do it but it was tempting to be lazy as I feel lazy right now. It was very tempting not to update and to write "I'm lagged and got post holiday blues and can't be bothered, I'll be back next week..."
But then I decided I am made of sterner stuff and I did promise I would update today so I will!
It was weird trading here or there while in the States.
My once a night wee at 4am (too much info yes I know...) always seemed to turn into a minor trading session! I made a wee trade here and there. To the sounds of snoring coming from the other two occupants of the room! And actually snoring sums up the market over the last month and for now.
So there I was in the bathroom with the laptop at 4am looking at moving prices at 9am UK time. Really odd and even odder to then go back to bed and wake up at lunchtime uk time...
So I tried hard not to get to get too involved and lucky for me in the big scheme of things not an awful lot of big changes happened so I could relax about it.
My idea for the hol was to sit with what I had unless I had to make a move and I had some trailing stops in place to take me out at profits or losses so I felt pretty safe.
Right now my thoughts are mid November to early Dec usually isn't a good period on the market, indeed I can tell from my very own Naked Trader Diary 2013 (out now folks on this link!
http://books.global-investor.com/books/868876.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Some of the weakest trading days of the year are on the way.
However mid Dec to year end is usually good so my thoughts are to wait with some cash and snap up cheap stock if there is a period of market meltdown between now and then.
Indeed the best time to buy will probably be on a horrible day when you feel like selling everything... so I am on the lookout with cash to pick up cheap stock later this month or early next.
Indeed I was thiniking of a word to sum up the current market and the word "moribund" springs to mind which is rather a lovely word in a downbeat kinda way.
Anyway for now It's been a while and I will try and cover as much as I can but I cannot guarantee this is everything. In fact it defininitely isn't but this is the best you are going to get given my jet lag.
So while I don't think the next 2-3 weeks are such a great time to buy shares I still cannot resist bargains.
Trifast (TRI) looks a cracking buy. Made nice profits in these shares over the years. It currently looks like one of the undeserved cheapest shares on the market and I think I will get 20% upside at some point with a bit of patience.
I saw they had dropped and could see from announcements it looked like an institution had unloaded some so it seemed a good chance to take advantage in advance of a statement. Irritatingly I nearly bought at 38.5 but missed the chance but still got some at 40.3. It appears the insitution then bought back.
The statement yesterday was simply terrific though the price did not respond much. But with some patience I bet they will. I feel they are worth nearer 60p than 40. Brokers covering this are all very upbeat. The management of this company look terrific.
One broker's note said they were aggressive buyers under 50p. Well let's see some aggression then! But I agree: anything under 50p and it's a buy here for me. Rising profits and a very bullish outlook from a usually conservative management. Brokers all have targets of 60p plus.
I made heaps of profits out of Porvair (PRV) over the last three years, it more than doubled for me on a few trades. While higher now, it has fallen from its high so I nabbed a new lot at 134.6.
It keeps delivering the goods and so unless any question marks appear like Trifast I will stick with it as a medium-term hold, possibly longer-term.
Porvair seems to be under most radars and remains a nice future star.
The amazing Coastal Energy (CEO) continues to look good and I bought another lot at 1175. It got a bid approach while I was away at 23 canadian dollars, this looks too low for such a promising company. I would rather the bid went away and the company just kept growing! Now a treble for me and it is going to continue as a long-term hold for what I think are even more gains to come. It is hard to find an oil company which always delivers.
I got a bit lucky - standing in the bathroom in the middle of the night (steady don't get too excited now) in the states I noticed Corin's share price jumping...
I took a look at level 2 and could see tons of big buy orders so I figured something was up and I jumped in twice getting 10,000 at 60.47 and 17,000 at 61.6 (I wanted more but couldn't get them)
Sure enough the company soon issued a statement saying a bid at 70p was on the cards. So, some luck for me, although it wasn't exactly a huge bid premium. Indeed shareholders could feel miffed as 70p did seem a bit low for a company with some prospects.
Anyway it looks like a done deal and I just have to decide whether to take the 68.5p on offer or wait a while for the full 70p. There's a tiny chance of another bid so I might stay put for a bit longer.
SDL was stopped out at for a loss of £232 . My original trade idea was the shares would climb back over 600 and though it looked like it for a while and I was in profit for a time they started to fall and the stop was hit. What I had actually done was get it totally wrong and I was buying the falling knife. Main thing with that is to exit fast if one gets it wrong. I am looking to buy back if I can spot a turnaround.
The opts trade just never worked out either, it wouldn't get above 210 which looked like exit music so I quit at 205.5 for breakeven. Same comments really as SDl.
Ftc had been slowly falling so I unloaded a few at 36.5 though still keeping the ones I got at 16p ish - that banks a profit of £700 for the site. It's fallen this week and now eyeing up buying them back - anything in the 20s certainly could be a bargain price. I've taken part profit in cml at 391 to bank £1,525.. keeping the rest.
Dominos short hit its target nicely - in fact it was a lovely momentum trade that worked out exactly - and so I took profits on the short to bag a nice profit of £1,500. The Halfords short hit the stop for a loss of £140. But I will be back !!
The spreadbet trade in Burberry proved a great success! With nearly 200 points profit quickly I quit with a very nice profit of £1,870. I'll tidy anything else up next week when I am more in the timezone.
Total profits banked for the site then are £5,223.
Portfolio Highlights
Well, still very happy with the progress of many of the shares in the portfolio. When all said and done no real major changes - I haven't made much or lost much.
Direct Line has proved a nice winning trade. I guess I might be tempted to bank some profit if it heads much over 200 but there is a good dividend and it might turn into a decent long-term winner.
Iomart is doing really well, not sure whether it can clear the 200 level, nice profit could be more there.
I always forget about An. Mainly as it is in a small account outside my isas and in the sipp so I don't notice it much. However I see it rejected an early bid approach and also returned some cash to holders - after that approach I would think it will get taken over sooner or later so I'll just let it go to sleep and hold it.
LOQ shares which announced a brilliant contract win in the Netherlands - massive profits in this one where I have trebled my money but I feel more to come! It has cracked 300 for sure, can it get to 400?
Recent buy St Ives holds very nicely above 100 and needs to tackle 106 to head higher. Still looks really cheap! Nice feature in it in the Sunday Times.
In the shorts department Abcam cracked 400 at last and now in a decent profit, Carpetshite continues to devy gravity or any explanation as to why its shares are rated like a tech company's.
Telecom Plus is due a statement next week - everything still looks good there - its high growth continues and even better it says dividends are going to shoot up which is great for me as I get massive cheques from thgis company in dividends and it is a great income. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000.
Sepura rocketed skywards before I went away and maintains that rise which is good news.
Dialight had come back: it reported all is well except for a contract that has been delayed. I see no need to worry and will continue to hold longer term and also for what I feel will be an eventual bid target. Profits are well over £100,000 on it. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at over a tenner.
Chime looks solid - still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet.
Not sure what to make of Aga which is in a small profit. I have to hold for 3 months to get my shareholder's discount on a new Aga the Mrs wants. Brokers are bullish citing 80p but it would be no surprise either if they put out a rotten update so it remains a risky play. I'll just about take the risk and hope it doesn't end up being an expensive aga!
Nichols continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark. It has pushed over 850 today and looks good for a tenner where I think I might be tempted to sell at a near double.
Long termer Entertainment One holds its own after a decent though not spectacular report. I think investors do forget about the valuation of its library which is massive, underpinning its share price. - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think. Could well take a while though and eventually I think it will be taken over.
Last time I wrote:
"Brilliant GB Group is rising again after coming back on profit taking. I have trebled and doubled on it now, I would hope it will gradually drift up to the 100p mark by year end."
My calculations are out: it's done the 100p already and if it can bust through that 120p the next stop? I thought I would take some profits at 100p but for bad or good I am falling for the greed emotion (which at least is better than the worst emotion - jealousy)
Kentz put out an excellent statement and I give up trying to work out why its rating is so low and remain holding a share which surely at some point will get a rerating.
Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore which has soared higher and paid a dividend too! Though it isn't moving much for now.
A reminder you can spend a day with me and live markets on November 30th. Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "November seminar interested" in the subject line.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..
