Seeing some of you online tomorrow for a day of live markets.

If you missed it, the next is June 20th, mail me for details.

I love these days as they make me do loads of work and find shares I'd have been too lazy to find without being forced to!

See you all online from 10am and let's hope some interesting trade ideas show themselves.

Any trades live from my own accounts which you are free to nosy around!

Yet another bank holiday, we went to see some friends in the country.

They've bought a lovely cottage in Alfriston, a pretty village in Sussex.

And we stayed again at The Star owned by the Polizzi family, and mainly recently re-built by Alex Polizzi, the TV "hotel inspector".

Unlike Gordon effing Ramsay who has spread himself too thin with nearly 100 outlets, the Polizzis have few properties but lavish energy and love on them.

The rooms are small but fabulously designed. The food was excellent.

Unlike Gordon who's hilarious on TV but puts his name over the door of too many underwhelming and overpriced restaurants for the money.

How many of his near 100 places does he actually get to see much given all the TV work? Very few I imagine.

But here you can tell they keep very much in touch with everything.

Service from the well trained young staff is super.

And breakfast is a highlight.

Remember in Sri Lanka I was whining that I couldn't get hot tea, hot toast and a fry up all at the same time?

Not here. It's all hot and all lovely.

And what a sausage! (Stop it!)

Lots of great walks around there too and we ended up at Lullington Church which claims to be the smallest in the country at just 20 seats.

No electricity either!

Rock band Sea Power released a song about it called "The smallest church in Sussex".

We ended up eating fish and chips on the beach at Seaford.

Congrats to R and B (!) Fish shop in Seaford for very nicely cooked food. Recommended!

It's VE day today and I enjoyed talking about it yesterday to someone who was a teenager at the time.

That's Vera who I've talked to every week for more than 10 years for Help The Aged.

She remembers the day very well.

Joy, elation. The whole street came out and brought something to the party.

Vera's dad was a baker and he managed to bake loads of bread. No preservatives!

And lots of buns.

She remembers tons of tea and jumping up and down with happiness.

Everyone brought food and one of the neighbours rolled a piano into the street and they had a massive sing song.

I've heard lots of stories of war time from Vera over the years.

The family's toilet was outside, there was little money and they had to scrape by,

But, there was a real sense of community which Vera says there just isn't any more.

Vera went on to work for a baker herself, using skills learned from her dad.

She has grandchildren but struggles with the teenagers being on their phones the whole time.

If you want to do a bit of real charity work rather than just donating money do think about signing up and chatting to a lonely older person once a week.

Make sure you think you can commit once a week at the same time for half an hour though no probs if you are on holiday.

Contact thesilverline.org.uk. You'll do online training courses then they try to match you with someone.

Once you've done a successful year, you switch to the Help The Aged service.

Do email me if you need any more info or any tips on handling calls.

It is VERY rewarding and good for the soul!

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard on TV.

Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Of course Lord Sir Keir won't change the policy on winter fuel.

Like most of the current crop of terrible politicians they refuse to change their minds.

That's mainly because like most leaders they think they're right about everything and believe they are intellectually superior to everyone else.

Please, say you're wrong, everyone knows it.

Give back the allowance. It's a massive help for many older folk.

Elizabeth's sister has paid a visit from the USA.

She's trying to persuade her American husband to move over here which would be lovely.

The one thing she couldn't get her head round was the new 20mph limits.

In fact coming back from the country this week after driving mainly at 50mph is now silly slow 20 is.

Especially on the roads that are leading into London which are a perfectly safe drive at 30.

You can see a perfectly placed money spinning camera that catches drivers used to doing 30 on a downhill section of a wide and very safe road.

Kerching seems to be the thought of cash strapped councils, not safety.

Didn't it rain pretty much every day for 6 months till last week?

Yes. And we just had two weeks of sun.

That's why we are facing a hose pipe ban already!

How can all that water run out so quickly?

Thanks for a lovely mail from a reader who met my son in Dubai this week to look over a potential property.

She said the highlight of her trip was meeting him and she's right when she says he is really living his best life over there.

And it made a real difference talking to someone she could trust re Dubai property.

If you would like a chat with Chris if you are thinking of buying or renting in Dubai as we are, let me know and will put you in touch.
I got a message from a reader, David asking if it was worth buying the new edition of Naked Trader if he had an older edition.

Well, I thought so but offered him a full refund if he didn't think there was enough new stuff.

He bought the new one on this promise and I had this mail from him:

"Bought it from Waterstones and I can see it's very much updated so your refund offer is now null and void!"

Isn't that nice to get some honesty?

He could easily have got a promised refund from me!

If you have an old edition get the new one, there is lots of new stuff and don't be so tight.

The Handmaid's Tale *** Ch 4/ Amazon
The final series for the watchable and tension filled dystopian tale.

Again Elizabeth Moss playing June Osbourne is the shining star and ultra convincing as the revenge filled ex handmaid trying to extract her daughter from Gilead.

Plenty of menacing performances elsewhere and interesting to see how it all ends.

Black Mirror *** Netflix
Charlie Brooker's sci fi series is back and seen the first one. "Common Man!

These are always a bit hit and miss but this one is pretty decent.

Possibly a bit predictable in parts but the standout is a tech firm making someone read out ads they don't know they're saying.

It's a clever commentary on subscription models where you end up gradually paying more and gradually getting less.

Malpractice **** ITV
Take away a few unlikely plot points and time flies by with tight tense scenes on this very watchable hospital "line of duty".

The only drawback is it is a touch hard to feel sympathy for the lead.

Written by an ex NHS doctor the scenes of overworked staff and how mistakes are made under pressure are very believable.

The Last of Us **** Sky
You really have to watch this fast as episodes come out as spoilers are everywhere!!

Spoiler follows !!!:

This is a spoiler, ok?

A lot of people were upset at the death of one of its main characters.

But fear not, he will be back in loads of flashbacks.

I personally couldn't really care as there are other well drawn characters and frankly I thought he was getting a bit boring!

They are now trying to recruit train drivers aged 18.

"Good evening, just to mention your train driver is 18 today."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Wow, it has been a very strong couple of weeks since I last updated.

Fears of the tariffs have abated at least for the moment.

Doesn't mean to say we're in the clear yet as you just don't know what he might say at any time.

But for now, the UK market is buoyant so I decided (cliche follows!) to make hay while the sun shines.

So I've traded quite heavily the last two weeks, apologies there is quite a lot to get through.

A lot of the trades are top ups to existing positions.

The portfolio has seen a massive lift over the last 2 weeks so I am grateful for that.

I bought some Knights Group.

This legal firm seems determined to grow by acquisition and has just bought yet another competitor.

It's always had a very low rating as the market perceives legal firms suspiciously.

So despite rises it doesn't look expensive but a leap of faith is always needed with shares that are on the rise.

Of course a stop helps as it will get you out if in hindsight you're buying near a top.

I bought more Alpha Group International - this one looks almost certain to get taken over this year, it has just turned down one approach.

I hold a good chunk of these, indeed some that I bought at 850p or so a couple of years ago!

I suspect a bid of 3600p might do it, and I will be very happy with that.

There's been bid chatter about ITV for years and it has never happened.

But I have bought a few ITV as the rumblings coming out recently seem to be some kind of deal is on the way.

Maybe not a full bid but perhaps a bid or a sale of part of the business to release value.

There is a lot of residual value in ITV that could be brought out.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't and even if not the shares look decent value.

There's a report due next week on the 15th.

I bought more Spire Healthcare. Another where a bid looks likely this year.

Discussed this one quite a bit, see the archive.

In a nutshell it has a lot of value in its properties which should come out.

I've topped up in recent buy Oxford Metrics.

My reasoning is the shares are rising and there seems to be buyers around.

The big question is here: what is the company going to do with its massive cash pile?

If it can do a deal the market likes then these shares could easily see a quick 30pc upside.

I've topped up in higher risk share Filtronic.

This is the one that supplies Space X, Elon Musk's space project.

High risk but potential high rewards here.

I also topped up and bought more of recent buy Synectics. SNX.

This was the winning share from the hotel seminar.

It reported all on track this week but inevitably any report for any share seems to result in selling and of course same here.

This share still looks cheap and there is some potential stunning further upside assuming it carries on the way it is going.

I also topped up on Mitie.

Been very patient with these, held for a year with a nice gain now and after an extremely good statement, I felt a top up would pay dividends.

And the final top up was GB Group - mainly as I think a bid is likely sooner than later at the current price.

I bought some Telecom Plus for the isa.

I hold a massive amount as my only share outside an isa and hold a share certificate which I hope one day I can locate!

I reckon this is a great time to buy some and it has strong momentum.

You can see why.

Unknown to most TEP has a stunning shareholder discount scheme which I take advantage of every year.

This scheme is so amazing in December instead of paying out for use of energy, phone, mobile, and broadband (roughly £600 a month) I get a CREDIT!

Yes. Every year one month I get PAID! It's crazy.

In essence you get 10pc cheaper energy than standard tariff and a 10pc credit in December equal to total spend on non-energy services.

You need 1,500 shares in Telecom Plus to qualify. If you already hold 1,500 shares or more you are simply mad in my opinion not to take their services and get this discount.

My reckoning is with the discount you just won't be getting combined energy and telephony together cheaper anywhere.

If you want to sign up I get a small commission my link is here any probs let me know.

https://uw.co.uk/uwpartners/uw-home?position=237058

All the phone, broadband and energy switching is done for you.

Alumasc was one we discussed at the recent seminar.

A quiet under the radar share that simply and slowly keeps going up.

This building products and solutions outfit climbs and with a low pe and low net debt looks a nice one to have tucked away.

I wonder whether at some point a larger predator might come calling?

Onto some sells.

Card Factory shares are so predictable!

Just sell the day before any statement after a big rise and take profits.

Buy back a week or two later at a lower price.

I banked profits of £ 1,127 for the site and maybe wait for a re-entry point.

Koo trade just kept falling so I exited for a loss of £218. But it now looks incredible value and waiting to buy back when it starts to turn up again.

With the market on the up, I banked profits on two shorts.

Profits of £8,990 are banked for the short in Whitbread after it easily reached target and a profit of £340 for Diageo.

Some very big gains for lots of recent buys including Pinewood, Zigup, Volex, McBride, Gamma, Keller and more.

Long-termer Cohort continues its sensational rise.

It does appear for now that shares are in a bull mood and so why not take advantage?

Of course we must temper that with countries around the world wanting to kill everyone in other countries.

If something kicks off badly then all bets are off.
If you feel unsure about your trading why not book trading coach Elizabeth?

She is a superb trading coach and will help you 1-1.

Talked to several people at the seminar who were overjoyed with her sessions.

You can do it online or at her office in Hammersmith if you leave around there.

I might also drop in during a session and you can get a bit of 1-1 with me.

For more info email her at elizabethburns2@aol.com

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.

if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
