Been quite a social couple of weeks.
The highlight was a lovely night out at one of my sister's theatres, Soho Place.
She is an amazing woman! Owns and operates 6 London theatres and works pretty much 24/7.
She built Soho Place from scratch after buying the site from the property company Derwent which is listed on the market.
It took many years of hard work to build it, we met the architect, the tales of labour and angst that went into it!
The theatre, next to Tottenham Court Road tube is sensational.
It's in the round, seats 600, everyone is close to the action.
So congrats to her and all her achievements, Nica Burns CBE !
We went to the opening night of the play "The Fifth Step".
Lots of press and lots of luvvies!
Lucky it got mainly 4 star reviews from the press.
"The Fifth Step" is about alcoholism and two men attending AA.
One an old timer, one a newbie looking for someone to help them through it, a sponsor.
Talking at the after party to someone who goes to AA, he said it was pretty authentic with both characters recognisable.
Both actors are fantastic.
Martin Freeman (Fargo, The Hobbit, The Office etc) plays the older guy to great effect.
But probably the star of the show is Jack Lowdon, of Slow Horses fame.
His portrayal of a confused alcoholic is stunning.
An edgy physicality and confusion over how to conquer addiction and trying to realise it's an illness is very well portrayed.
If you are in AA yourself, then even more reason to go.
Go see it if you can, it plays up till August.
There aren't many seats left, you can book at my sister's website:
There are lots of other great plays at her theatres including Six, Murder She Didn't Write and Fawlty Towers is back from next month.
There is a fantastic lounge at the top of the Soho Place building with an outside area that has superb views of London.
It features "Nica's Bar".
Met some very interesting people indeed at the after party, some top directors and actors.
They are great company, full of life and fun.
I met one guy who is so crazy about theatre he goes six days a week.
Literally knows every single thing about every single show.
He's also a doctor and bemoaned the fact all his patients want is a pill.
Obviously I spent quite a bit of time "canape chasing".
Anyway a lovely evening and there was a zip car two streets away to get us home.
Nothing like a sunny day by the Thames near us.
Especially a nice quiet weekday morning where all the bankers are at work and the trophy wives are doing pilates.
We can relax at a little outside table at an authentic Italian cafe (actually staffed by Italians).
Watching the world go by with a cappuccino and a naughty Italian bun.
Weekends there are no good, impossible to bag one of the just 3 outside tables and the street outside is crazy with bankers and trophy wives jogging.
No way am I telling you what this place is. Keeping this to myself.
Pasta is still made by the "Mama" of the place who is in her 80s.
Hmmm, what am I doing tomorrow?
Enjoy your bank holiday weekend.
Seeing some friends for a couple of lunches and then Fulham Vs Man City on Sunday with Terry whose brother can't go so I get his ticket. Thanks Terry!
If you are going to the Cottage, come and find me at half time and say hello.
Somewhere a third of the way up in H1.

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Watch out, Angela Rayner is after us savers and investors.
A leaked memo shows just what her and her ilk would like to do.
Tax us more and take more of our savings.
How this can possibly lead to growth is a big mystery.
The tax system is so bananas.
It literally doesn't really want you to aspire to earn more than a certain amount.
As a company or sole trader, why go above £85k?
You now have to start charging customers vat putting you at a disadvantage to others.
Earn over £100k now you're paying 65pc tax.
The new government is thrashing about trying to decide what it actually is.
This morning the headline was "We will castrate paedophiles"
This is such an obvious distraction from the winter allowance debacle.
Guaranteed: No paedophile will ever be castrated!
I see Zoe's "wholefood supplement" has been labelled ultra processed.
I think this is the one dragon Stephen has loads of money in.
I reckon all these things are a waste of money.
You don't need these silly supplements imho - just eat good food and nothing extra is needed perhaps apart from Vit D supplement.
Short-haul airlines are going to introduce standing seats.
What could possibly go wrong?
Maybe they should be reserved for football fans only.
During turbulence they can sing to the pilot "You don't know what you're doing!"
Murderbot **** Apple
A comedy sci-fi pastiche which hits a lot of targets with a bullseye.
Episode 1 is the set up: A robot whose aim is to defend humans disables some of its programs and begins to see humans in a rather bad light.
It begins binge watching TV shows and can't stand watching humans have sex!
Wasn't sure at first but Episode 2 picks up the pace nicely and I want to see more.
Top of The Pops ***** BBC 4
If you want a hit of nostalgia don't miss the current crop of TOPSes showing Friday nights on BBC4.
Fun to record them all then you can fast forwards through any tunes you hate.
Tomorrow sees some great years, there's a 1976, a 1997 and a 1992.
It's fun to trawl between the decades - the fun is seeing how society changes, what the dancers are wearing.
Strangely the ones introduced by Jimmy Saville seem to have disappeared"¦
The Bombing of Pan Am 103 *** BBC1
A very sensitive drama (interlaced with some real footage) re the downing of the plane over Lockerbie.
My only problem with it is: I'm not totally certain I want to watch another 5 episodes of such awfulness and human misery.
It's so awful for all those poor people affected by the 1988 bombing but I do know the story quite well and selfishly think maybe I can do more with 5 hours of my life.
Code of Silence ***** ITV
A surprise winner from ITV which for a change freshens up a police procedural drama.
A deaf worker at a police canteen is plucked out to help lip read some baddies.
She's told to forget everything she sees but she's so bored with her life she starts her own investigations.
And so far it looks like she's fallen for one of the baddies. Great start!
A new series of Clarkson's Farm starts tomorrow on Amazon.
Let's hope it's as entertaining as the last few series.
Apparently there's a new female assistant. Should be interesting!
Doctors are warning about a summer penis phenomenon.
That is, they appear bigger than normal.
Men everywhere are sobbing about this obviously.
Hard for me though, I'll have to wear an extra pair of pants.
(If only it could be summer all year round to avoid the winter shrinkage problem).
New Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.
The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

Markets
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
It's been a very decent time since the tariff debacle, markets have pretty much regained all the losses and added some profits.
Personally I've added nearly £500,000 over 4 weeks over all accounts so I am thinking that means it is probably time for some topslicing.
So I have sold some of a few shares and all of one or two.
It's pretty much a truism:
Take profits when you're thinking what a brilliant trader you are.
Buy when you are sobbing into your tea at how shit you are.
Actually can I copyright those last 2 sentences?
I guess right now I am leaning towards statement one.
The rise in inflation to 3.5pc is hardly unexpected, I can't see it getting much better, can you?
That means it isn't so certain that interest rates can really come down a lot further.
With the NI rises, the wage rises how on earth can inflation come down?
The rich continue to flee.
I know one personally who employs many 100s who is ready to leave.
He thinks he is about to be fleeced.
My thought generally is I have bought a lot of stuff recently and for now, only buying if something really ticks a lot of boxes.
But quite a few very nice trade ideas showed up at the online seminar last week.
I have bought one or two of those and have some nice trade ideas bubbling away.
One thing we discussed on the day is selling or part selling shares that have done well for you the day before any statement is due.
Pretty much every time shares dip for a while even if a statement is good, you can then buy back a week or two later.
One we noticed about to report during the seminar was On The Beach.
We suspected a good report was due but shares would fall despite this.
And that is what happened!
I waited a few days then bought some OTB.
The statement was very decent, but shares had risen a lot ahead of the statement so of course it fell on statement day.
Despite problems in the economy it looks like the last thing people want to sacrifice is their summer getaway.
OTB says it expects a record year and booking momentum continues.
It is growing well in Ireland, and has reduced net debt considerably.
All in all, this looks too cheap for the kind of growth it looks like achieving.
I wonder at this sort of price whether someone might snap this up.
Could it even be attractive to an airline?
Anyway I am in and will hold probably for some time unless question marks appear.
A similar story is Kooth.
I was in this but after a (decent) statement it started to fall and I took a loss.
I waited for a bit, looking out on level 2 for a turn up, which happened.
I missed the bottom of the turn but still have got in as it looks like it wants to climb back up to where it was before the profit taking happened.
Kooth, while risky because it could slump if it lost a major contract or two could have some very nice upside.
It claims it expects good growth in the USA and that does look plausible.
There is some nice cash.
Downside are the lumpy contracts and there isn't a dividend and it's only just about acceptable to me market cap wise ( a bit on the low side but it is very liquid).
I picked up some STV after a trading update this week.
It is a bit like ITV but Scottish, aye.
The market for some reason doesn't seem to quite trust it, putting it on a low rating.
But I rather liked yesterday's trading update.
It's launching a new radio station and it just seems a bit under the radar?
Of course downside is you could argue it's a gradually diminishing business given ad spend is coming down.
But then again shares have halved, possibly making it an attractive bid target.
For me, a pe of 5, peg of 0.2 and a dividend of more than 7pc is just too tempting so I bought.
The net debt is a bit on the high side but within my parameters, it does have some net assets as well so not likely to go bust,
Onto a spread long and two shorts.
A short came up at the seminar.
This is Softcat, nothing wrong with the company itself, but we reckon it just looks too expensive even though it has some nice cash.
The chart kind of spells this out as it heads between 1500 and 1850.
It was a bit of a no-brainer really, as a stop at 1875 would take one out if it started to break out of the range.
So, a spreadbet short it was, added a short live at the seminar and some more later.
Another short idea that looks interesting is Wise Group.
A quite high risk short though, so I am out if it starts to gain momentum to the upside.
It sits on a pe of 30 which looks too much.
The chart agrees: every time it hits the 1100p ish level it starts to sink.
Not sure of timescale for the short yet, will probably try and trail it down and get a stop into breakeven as soon as possible.
Could be a nice 100-200 points downside here. Obviously if it breaks out, I am gone!
The spreadbet long is a short term recovery play in M and S.
The story is well known, stellar results but short-term problems from the cyber attack.
I reckon the cyber attack downside will alleviate and it looked like a good time for a little short term trade in upside over the next couple of weeks or so.
Even though M and S is doing well, I don't want to hang on for too long in case problems continue, hence the spread bet.
I used TN, and spreadex for the trades.
https://tradenation.com/en-gb/naked-trader/
I've topsliced a few bits and bobs to go into some cash after some decent recent gains and now sit in a bit of a cash pile waiting for trades, perhaps on a bad down day.
So, as they say, in no particular order:
Vlx, profit £1,219, IMB loss £329, Pine profit £970, MGNS (topslice) profit £785, IG profit £925, Vic loss £235, Tcap profit £130.
Bloomsbury surprised with a not so happy update today.
It's been a long-termer for me and I try and hold onto quality for as long as I can.
But when a question mark appears, it is a different matter and one appeared in a statement today, which isn't that bad at all, it is just that the growth story has dampened a bit.
So I decided to sell some, about 60pc holding onto ones I bought way lower.
For the site it's a profit of £1,646 which includes a loss of £835 on what looks in hindsight a bad average up.
Going to keep an eye open because after the fall so far today it looks about fair value, should it go any lower I might buy some back as it still is good quality. Much below 500-20 it begins to look good value again.
It is always hard to sell some of a long-termer as you kind of get attached to it, but no sentiment can be allowed in investing.
Totting up taken losses and profits add up to a site profit banked of £5,111.
Elsewhere nice ahead of from Zigup which has proved a lovely buy so far.
Filtronic has gained some good ground, as has Chrt, and Knights held onto gains after its very decent statement.
A reminder about ex dividend dates which we talked about at the seminar.
Remember shares usually fall by the amount of the dividend at start of play on the ex date.
It's important to know because 1- people tend to sell in a panic thinking there is something wrong and 2- your stop could be in the wrong place and needs to be changed!
For example Yu Group, a long-term hold goes ex dividend for 41p on Thursday, so shares are likely to start down on Thursday some 40 or 50p.
If your stop is 40 or 50p away you will get hit! Always worth noting down ex dividend days especially if the dividend is a big one.
If you feel unsure about your trading why not book trading coach Elizabeth?
She is a superb trading coach/mentor and will help you 1-1.
Talked to several people at the seminar who were overjoyed with her sessions.
You can do it online or at her office in Hammersmith if you leave around there.
I might also drop in during a session and you can get a bit of 1-1 with me.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
