***April seminar is now sold out - see new date above***
Looking forwards to spending a day with some of you next Wednesday (27th) at the
online beginners/improvers day - direct from the kitchen!
Those of you attending you ought to get a questionnaire from me over the weekend.
If you can give me a few answers that would be great as it helps me to know who
you are and what you want from the day.
Can't wait to chat to you all and hope it will be an interesting live day on the markets.
As it's live I never know where we will go but I hope we find a live trade or two.
"See you" all there. There's a bit of space left if you're free next week, mail for details.
You've got to love Easter - it's Christmas without the hassle.
No pressure. No anxieties.
Just a lovely long weekend. I reckon let everyone else travel. Go and wait in
airport queues if you want.
Instead it's a great time to relax, turn off all the electronic things. Open a book
or a magazine, forget about all those Twitter spats with people trying to wind
you up.
Perhaps we forget the last decade of new tech has caused a whole load of new
anxiety.
Why didn't someone reply to me immediately? Don't they like me anymore?
Someone's having a go at me! Oh no, I have a troll!
Talking trolling had to laugh at the grumpy owner of our local deli.
I happen to like him, he gives it to you straight and his brunches are truly great.
Indeed as I write this Thursday morning we are shortly going for brunch there.
Eggs benedict which he does so well.
Someone wrote a review claiming his cakes were stale.
He wrote back "You are a spiteful snitch and are banned from the premises."
Way to go!
With no markets I had a lovely time, turned off the computer for 4 days.
Met some friends for a pub lunch and a leisurely walk. Pubs seem reluctant to break
though the £20 mark for a main but not far off.
Putting the calories on the menu might be a disaster for restaurants though.
1,200 for duck! The cheese plate came to a shocking 2.400 calories.
One of our party went for the roast cauliflower (just 220) so she could have the sticky toffee pudding (733).
Restaurants are going to sell a whole lot less puddings that's for sure.
We took a train down to Windsor on BH Monday and had a wander round.
Very busy, lots of queues especially for Nandos. People happy to be out though they
seemed to be buying coffees and not much else.
Anyway retailers to short who had no-one in them: Superdry. Completely empty and
the clothes look terrible.
Who on earth is their market? Well no-one by the look if it.
Joules - Not a soul in there and like Superdry it seems a mess with no obvious target market.
Clinton Cards - deserted apart from a bored assistant.
There doesn't seem much reason for its existence, another that looks like a bust sooner or later.
I'd say all three must be going down the tubes.
The White Company was going ok though, but don't think it's listed.
Seems to know its market and who it wants, plus the store was very nicely laid out. I bought a bathrobe.
Bubble tea (???) seems to be big in Windsor, the only thing is there seemed to be hardly
anyone drinking it, whatever it is.
Perhaps it's just a giant bubble which has burst?
I got totally ripped off by a retailer, news on that story next time!
Very much enjoyed seeing some of you at the two online seminars recently..
Some lovely people, some great chats and brilliant ideas.
Though we did have one or two blokes from Yorkshire who were too tight to buy Yorkshire Gold tea instead of standard Yorkshire....
Also glad many of you at the follow up one are still doing ok considering it is difficult at the moment.
Hopefully those of you who came to the beginner/improver one got the notes - please check spam if you didn't as the document is quite long.
Thanks for the great feedback especially from you beginners and remember you can just start with small amounts, you don't have to go all in!
Let me know how you do.
if you fancy spending a day with me and live markets and a bit of fun too, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "June 8th interested."
Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Big thanks also Elizabeth, you made the whole process seamless and free flowing; and kept the attendees and Robbie on course."
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!
Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.
"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."
Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.
Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.
"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.
Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:
"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.
I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.
I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....
.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"
Next is June 8th online, mail for details.
Naked Rambling
It's nor surprising. Even a year ago it had a lot of must see series.
There was The Queen's Gambit, The Crown, House of Cards..
Recently? Not so much. Indeed we hardy used it at all except now with
the return of Better Call Saul.
Rather than cutting back on productions, it surely ought to increase and bring
us some great new series.
Speed limiters are to be fitted in all new cars soon.
I don't personally like driving or cars much, happier on a bike or a train.
But if you love driving, cars and all enjoy the last bit of freedom.
For soon, stray 1mph over the 20mph limit and your car will probably hand out
penalty points automatically.
In London and around where I live the 20mph limit on small residential streets seems
sensible.
But not in the two wide main roads. It's next to impossible and if you do try and
do 20mph someone gets impatient behind, tries to overtake making it more dangerous.
The buses all do 30mph, the limit is has been for decades.
Surely between midnight and 6am all limits could have 10mph added.
Meanwhile driverless cars and how to use them are going into the highway code.
Bizarrely you can't use a mobile but you can watch a movie?
Or not if you are doing more than 37mph.
Oh, and you need to take control of the car in certain conditions.
Hands up who would trust a driverless car run by a computer?
None of you? Exactly. Think about how many times tech goes wrong.
What if it decided to have a bad day? You can't just re-boot it to save yourself
as it decides to ignore a junction.
My lad was one of those invading the pitch as our local team Fulham got promoted to the Premiere League.
It was all in good fun, a steward even gave an 80-year-old a bunk up to get on.
The only thing is, first game next season is bound to be Liverpool or Man City. Gulp.
Better Call Saul (*****) Netflix
We're about to see the final transformation of Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman.
We're lucky to have it as Bob Odenkirk had a heart attack on set.
The slow storytelling shows a master of the writing craft.
Saul is back and his partner in crime Kim is beginning to steal the show, egging him on to
do bad things.
Lots of dark comedy drama, amazing camera work and cracking dialogue, a real treat.
The Split (**) BBC
One way me and the Mrs decide whether we'll carry on watching something is the
number of times she consults her phone and I open the laptop. The more times
we get distracted then what's the point of carrying on?
The Split's first episode brought a total of 8 phone consults and 5 laptop openings
and so we decided that was that.
The Split has plenty of promise, but maybe it was just too formulaic, and the twist
was signalled a mile off. Plus it's the same small group of go to actors. We've split
from the split.
Gentleman Jack (**) BBC 1
(1 phone consult, 8 laptop openings)
Talking of splits, the Mrs likes this and I just can't concentrate on it. A manic
lady seems to ride a horse everywhere doing deals of which I neither care about
or really understand.
I quit, the mrs went on to episode two but commented the phone consults had gone up
but she might come back to it "another time". Still the rest of the world seems to love it
so don't listen to me.
Julia (****) Sky Atlantic
Nice gentle tale of the real life cook Julia Childs who began one of the first
TV cooking shows in the 60s.
Lots of lovely 60s backdrops, fun and great to have an easygoing series which
is just so relaxing.
Deadline (***) Ch 5
Refreshing low budget thriller, similar plot to the movie Basic
Instinct. No messing around with timelines.. Just straightforward.
They used an 8 year shot of Hammersmith Bridge in the days when it was actually working
but I guess that saves on drone budgets!
A simple whodunnit - did she kill her husband or not. Only seen 1 episode so far.
The Thief, his wife and the Canoe (****) (ITV)
Based on the amazing true life story of the hapless couple who tried to get life insurance
money by faking the husband's death.
The story is told straight. Indeed there is no need for anything else, it's a superb
real-life story. The kind of mess that's easy to get in when you go down a certain path.
Both lead actors are terrific, especially the wife not cut out to be bad.
Dr Who (*) BBC 1
Oh (time) Lord.
Science experts are worried we're sending out signals to potential other worlds.
I don't blame them. What if they developed like we did?
What if their leaders are as bad as ours? Maybe we don't the alien equivalent of
Putin bearing down on us.
A sex expert advises women to make a list of things you want to try and "leave it on his pillow".
So I was excited when I found a piece of paper on the pillow.
Sadly the message read:
"Don't forget to put the bins out".

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets are a bit more settled for now but the Ukraine war and inflation still casts some
shadow so care is needed.
I would still suggest having some cash on the sidelines.
Markets will not like it at all if the far right wins the French election this weekend though
as I write it seems unlikely.
While polls show Macron should still get it, the far right has been making gains and
if getting in "Frexit" would be Brexit on steroids and cause turmoil.
Let's hope this doesn't happen.
In the meantime though there are opportunities around.
I'm in the middle of writing a new book about trading strategies, a kind of slightly more
advanced follow up to NT for improvers rather than beginners which hopefully will be out
later this year.
I was writing a strategy on dividends. There are a few very nice shares that pay out 5% plus
which brings in nice income.
For example one of mine is Telecom Plus which has yielded hundreds of thousands over the years.
These shares are often defensive and they often have ranges.
You can try and add nearer the bottom of a range and get some capital gains too.
I spotted a new one, Redrow. RDW.
Taking out spike downs for Covid the shares range from 500ish to 700ish and it pays out nearly 6% dividend.
I hardly ever buy housebuilders as I find valuing them next to impossible so I simply never try.
I haven't tried to value this one as I know I'll just be scratching my head.
So here is my plan, keep picking some up while they are in the low/mid 500s.
Pick up the 6% dividend while hopefully waiting for them to head back to the late 600s.
Then sell em in the late 600s. Rinse and repeat. Be patient. Exit plan?
Well, if they start dipping much below 500p then maybe something is wrong and I'd quit - I am still in shoot first, ask questions after mode.
I'll keep an eye on this idea for you and report back on how it goes. More detail on this
kind of approach will be in the new book.
There's nothing like the words "ahead of expectations" to gladden an investor's cold heart.
At the very least it means you're not in a stinker for now, and at best you're in a goodie which will keep on going up.
Indeed I've had a good couple of weeks with a few "ahead of's" cropping up.
On the strength of a strong "ahead of" I bought some Diploma DPLM.
This is a FTSE 250 international company distribution specialist services.
A bullish ahead of statement and what it terms an "exciting acquisition drive".
Apart from one division, all looks good and it says it is not affected by the Ukraine situation.
Buying this type of quality though does not come cheap with a forward pe of more than 25 which is a bit outside my usual range.
But with this one and given its big growth strategy I'll stump up.
The shares were 700 points or so higher at the start of the year so this could be a good point
to be invested. I'd look to take profits somewhere near previous highs.
However as usual for me it's safety first - a loose stop for now but would consider quitting
if there is a general market scare.
Another "ahead of" was in smallcap Totally TLY.
Already well up on this one I bought some more based on its bullish statement a few days ago with that lovely ahead of.
It should mean the next statement should be decent, puts a floor on the price.
In any event this healthcare delivery business looks in fine fettle.
Totally has everything you need for a healthy tiddler.
Among the attractions are a low PE, a low PEG, a pile of cash and rising profits. Perfect.
I'm Totally in.
Another recent "ahead of" was Facilities by ADF which supplies facilities for production companies.
I took advantage of share weakness for this one.
I read the news in The Times that UK production spending is expected to rise sharply to more than £11 bln from £5.5bln.
Also reports planning permissions for new studios are rising fast and with most productions requiring outside locations, this should be a boon for ADF.
It's already said recently it's trading ahead of expectations so a nice chance to buy some
more a bit cheaper.
Today's "ahead of" was GB Group GBG and I added.
It's one often worth buying on direct market access to save the spread.
Those of you coming to the beginners/improvers seminar next Wednesday I hope to put a couple of live trades using DMA and show you how it is sometime possible to buy shares at the "sell" price rather than the buy price often saving on sometimes massive spreads.
Best recent example is when I saved around a massive 12p buying Bloomsbury Publishing.
We'll also take a good look at some live supply and demand. When is it a good time to buy something?
Held GBG for years since 20p, I remember buying at a seminar in 2012 or so!
It has a deserved high rating - it has a great niche in security and ID security, a booming area.
It slumped recently after a big acquisition but says today things look good with its new
acquisitions.
It took on debt to pay for them but has already paid back 40m dollars from good cash flow.
Once profits from the buys start to kick in, next year could be decent and should see a share
price a lot higher..
I'm keen to try and make a few quid on a potential rise in travel shares and it's a take your pick between Easyjet, IAG, and Jet2com.
I've gone for Easyjet as perhaps IAG has more problems and tends to be in the news a lot
with its IT glitches and various annoyances to customers.
For now, Easyjet seems slicker and if I had a flight to take and they were both the same
price I'd row in with ESY.
I have one or two arty friends in showbiz and my sister too, and sometimes we go to the one of the arty members club Soho House.
They are trendy clubs usually with a rooftop pool (which no-one seems to get into) and I've
had lovely evenings catching up with said friends.
So now I feel terrible because despite enjoying the invites to Soho Houses, I had a look at the finances of them and it doesn't look good.
Although they boast a waiting list of 170,000 they can't seem to make any money.
Indeed they are forecast to make a massive loss this year and a less loss next. They also have a big debt.
Soho Houses are listed in the US under the name "Membership Collective" and, well I've taken out a short.
I can't see how they can be valued at over a billion. Even with some property value. Stockopedia's algos also rate it as a "sucker stock".
So I am short - please don't grass me up to my friends.
I have a terrible feeling next time I'm invited to a soho house, security will throw me out into the street.
"Get out of here you disgusting little shorter."
What else is going on?
Argentex reported as I assumed it was and it was a decent trading statement.
Sureserve seems to have found its bottom and is flying today, you'd have thought it was worth over 100p.
The oft overlooked Next Fifteen is rising fast, that could easily re-rate a lot higher.
Back here as usual Thursday next (May 5th) with all the news of trades from the online seminar.
It's that time of the year when you can add 20k into an isa.
It is an amazing tax perk and we are very lucky to have it, I am especially grateful and remember the feeling a while back when I made the first tax free million in one!
I use Barclays, IG and Interactive Investor for mine.
Interactive Investor have a referral thing for the moment so if you want £125 of fees
taken off let me know - available for anyone who invests 10k plus.
On the referral I apparently would get £200 into my account so a win win for both of us?
If you want to go for the referral and the money off email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you details of how we can do it.
Good luck to all of you in current volatile conditions. Maybe we can be lucky, hostilities
will cease and we get back to normal.

Money Week offer:
Money Week is a decent magazine which I get as well as the IC.
Shares wise there are quite a few features every week including what a fund manager is buying, all the tips from the papers are covered including places like the Telegraph, Times, Mail, Shares Mag etc and also IPOs are covered.
There is also a decent property and travel section. Also coverage of topics like pension planning, tech, spending and current and future economics.
The kind of mag I enjoy reading in the bath and I always find something that makes me have a think, and that's quite hard for me..
On the link there is also a decent discount so it's around £28-£32 for 13 issues depending on whether the mag is sent to you by post or digital or both. Personally I like an old fashioned mag for bath reading!
So- if you want the free six weekly issues and a discount the link is here:
https://www.moneyweek.com/TNT
Do let me know if any probs with getting the discount or freebies.
Spreadco is still paying 2pc interest up to £20,000 free cash which I enjoy getting and as we saw at the seminar its spreads on ftse 350 shares and the ftse always seem to be tightest.

**NEW OFFER: Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
As most of you are aware I don't take ads or recommend anyone apart from the
couple of firms I use all the time and trust.
I could probably make millions from agreeing to deals offered by forex cos,
dodgy systems et all. They're all con merchants and I would never ever sleep
at night if I just took their money, so I don't much to their bewilderment! That's
why you don't see any ads on the website.
However I actually approached a company to suggest I recommend them as long
as they gave my lovely readers a decent discount and it agreed.
The site is called research-tree and I really can recommend it as it is a big
help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
It is very hard as an investor to get hold of brokers notes/recommendations, their
in depth research on companies. Either it is expensive or there are silly rules re who
can access them.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is research-tree.com - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader. Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.
Trades made for my sipp are exclusively available on my
email service (this is the website stuff plus exclusive trades mailed
to you earlier on update days). For subscription details mail me

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
