The favourite out of all the books I've written is "Trade Like A Shark". I have had so many requests for an audio version and at last is is ready!
To get the audio version of it click here:
>
I laughed when the link came up as it looks like I also wrote "Pure Male Dominance: gain respect and sexually dominate women..."
I definitely didn't. Indeed in my household it's the other way round...
At last warm weather... Myself and son are off to Bournemouth for a weekend of football and fun on the beach. More on that in a mo.
I couldn't imagine running the London marathon. By mile five I'd be a gonner. I'll stick to swimming thanks. But a friend is running it.
As it's for the very worthy Alzheimer's charity if I couldn't run it I thought at least support it so myself and family have volunteered and we will be part of the team handing out water and encouragement at our station near the end of the course.
If you'd like to sponsor my friend's team here is the link:
>
They've already raised a staggering amount and hope to get it to £100,000 by the day itself.
I'll let you know in the next update how the day went as a volunteer - if you are running it, good luck and... I am impressed with you!
If you recognise me if you're a runner say "Hi Naked" and I'll give you an extra bottle of water!
Another busy few days! Half term is upon us. Despite being charged an arm and a leg (make that 5 arms and ten legs) by private education the holidays are longer than the terms.
It's nearly a month off for half-term. Try filling that for an active 14-year-old.
We managed to fix up some football and tennis courses but with so many days to fill we also nipped to Spain (I know, lucky us) for a few days too. I won't bore you with that, who wants to read about someone you don't know's holiday anyway?
Also went bowling but also didn't. Went along to Hollywood Bowl (of which I am a shareholder).
I didn't book a lane thinking that would be no problem.
Wrong! We arrived at 4pm and the next lane free was at 7pm.
Well that is great news as a shareholder.
Making the best of it, we played a lot of table tennis and then won a fiver on the arcades which cost £30 in ten pence pieces over an hour.
A woman tried to pinch some of the ten pees from the slot a the bottom of the game we were playing.
Just help yourself, love" I said much to the amusement of my son.
He now says this to me every day. "Help yourself love."
Thank goodness the football season is nearly over. Our team Fulham are now
relegated back to the Championship with some relief for me.
Being forced to watch away games by my son (I have to, it's a bonding thing)
the games have been tedious and every one lost. Apart from last weekend which of course we won because we were already down.
Luckily the last three home games he's been happy to go with a friend and I can do something more interesting.
Yes, we were there for the relegation at Watford. Some of it anyway.
I looked airily at the tube map, noting Watford appeared to be at the end
of a tube line which didn't look far away. Looks about an hour I assumed.
But I should have done my homework. Like someone buying a share who didn't do the homework and ends up with a loser (that they continue to hold forever "as it will come back") we ended up on the slowest train ever stopping at every stop on the planet.
We were still somewhere like Cranthorpe End when the game was starting.
But even my fan son didn't mind we were late. Even he realised perhaps missing part of a game is no bad thing.
We eventually got to Watford High Street. Lucky the lights were on in the stadium so we followed the lights.
And, of course, it wasn't soon before the team crumbled. And lost 4-1. The fans cheer the players at the end.
Football must be the only career where you can do your job really badly, earn millions - AND get cheered by loads of people. Weird.
This never happens to me for example. In fact just one slip up, say I mention a share which then goes on to tank guess what happens. No cheers for everything I got right, just boos for the bad one. If I was young enough I'd become a footballer.
We went by the actual fast train and got back in.. ahem... 45 minutes.
A long time ago I made a terrible mistake and bought tickets for an away game at Bournemouth on Easter Saturday.
But I decided, let's make the best of it! I booked a hotel overnight in Bournemouth for me and the lad so we will have a father and son bonding weekend.
We're going to see the sights, go on the open top bus, play the arcades and all sorts. It also means I am going to have to listen to lots of gangsta rap.
Teenagers play it to annoy their parents. The prize is a parent screaming: "Turn it off, I can't stand it any more!".
My take is (I actually like some of it) pretend to really like it and sing along, including the swear words. If you do this, you'll find it really works and the teenager will turn it off!
There is another advantage to our weekend in Bournemouth: The mother in law is staying for Easter and it means I will get an unbroken night's sleep away from her snoring. Which is louder than the 747s landing at Heathrow.
Her snoring even keeps the cats awake.
They come up to me with an expression which looks like "WTF?"
I'm thinking about a follow up seminar sometime this summer but only
if enough interested. If you think you might be drop me a mail with "follow
up interested" and will let you know if it might be a yes or not. You musy
have been to a starter seminar to qualify, it's a day of finding trades, live
trading, research and problem solving.
I met some very interesting and lovely characters at the beginner/improver seminar. Well catered for medically with two dentists and a doctor so I knew anything wrong with me that day, no need to panic!
Glad you enjoyed the mini full breakfasts, I had three this time. The hotel excelled with the food I think. And just great to see so many people of all ages and jobs getting on. Please let me know if you didn't get the notes via email the day after.
Good luck with everything and remember level 2 takes a while to sink in. I reckon you beginners have a decent list of ideas!
No events for a while now but there is a new date May 20th with a large early bird discount on offer mail me at robbiethetrader with "May interested" in the subject line.
Cheers for the feedback from Monday's event. I was amazed at how many stayed at the end and you got a bit of a reward for that! And thanks for the lovely feedback including this one: "It exceeded expectations. It was even more relaxed and crammed with pearls that I had anticipated and you are a most gifted communicator and inspiring without wishing to embarrass you..."
Of course not! Everyone loves praise.. keep it coming!!
Naked Rambling
If there is one thing Brexit has taught us is we thought the adults were running the country.
What a mistake! We thought we were the kids and they could run things for us.
It's a bit of a shock to realise not only are they kids too, but they aren't anywhere near the top of the class ones.
Indeed, the scales have fallen from our eyes so much we now realise not only are they childish and petulant - most have never run a business and if they had to run one would probably fail.
Anyhow I'm not bothered they are all on holiday.
We've had relentless Brexit for so long now it is nice just to have
a break from it.
Easter is great, like Xmas without all the hassle that goes with it. And
no Brexit and warm weather. Yes!
There's a whole lot less sex going on these days and it is all the fault of new tech apparently. The number of 18-29s reporting they have no sex has risen to 25% from 8% in 2008 before smartphones.
Youngsters are too tied up in "smart" phones to bother with sex. Why bother when looking at a phone is way more exciting? (And definitely no "tying up")
Now whenever I think about getting a smartphone - I still don't have one - I shall remember this. And I know for sure I'm getting way more sex than a smartphone user!
Games of Thrones (*****) was the TV event of the week. It was worth the wait with a fantastic start. You can't expect major events in an opener though.
Those that like to poo poo the show as a stupid fantasy series haven't cottoned on it is a great tale of how power corrupts.
There was even Brexit in there with Sansa taking the Nigel Farage role. "All them southerners coming over here, having sex with our birds..."
Some brilliant witty lines throughout. Very little sex or violence. Just an axe through the head and three prostitutes giving erm....
I've taken a dislike to Bran though and I have no idea why. Maybe because he's a right know it all. Come on, someone stick it to him!
Nice cliffhanger as Jamie sees Bran.
First line of episode 2?
Hi Bran, sorry I pushed you off the top of a castle because I didn't want everyone to know I was having sex with my sister...."
Elsewhere in TV land Billions Sky Atlantic (*****) has improved massively from the shaky first episode.
Thank goodness John Malkovich's Russian character has gone though, he was awful! Lots of entertainment and sweet to see Taylor making peace with her dad.
Line of Duty (****)remains a decent watch even though the plot holes are beginning to be a little much at times. How many corrupt officers can there be, it feels like they all are! Also all the OCD's and the AC-12's and the UCO's take a bit of getting used to.
Obviously Hastings isn't going to be "H". There is too much signalling of that, a definite red herring. I am going to call it as to who is H.
Being as whodunnit is always the second least likely character, it's going to be.... a woman.... Kate Fleming. Send me a tenner if I'm right?
MotherFatherson (**) BBC 2 - this just ended up as an inferior version of the much superior Succession. Watch that instead!
Fleabag (*****) BBC 1 has ended on a high. There will be no more. How refreshing. End on a high! Some surprisingly good lines and some decent points.
Mothers Make Porn (*). It's as bad as the title suggest. Don't go there. Same with Naked Beach (*). Just awful. In fact anything with Naked in the title is always terrible.
Hang on, there's something not right about that last sentence, but I can't think what it is...
Bad Banks (*****) All 4. Ch 4 showed the first episode then consigned it to All 4. That's because I suspect they think no-one wants to watch something with German subtitles.
It starts with money no longer coming out of cashpoints as a German bank goes bust. The story then goes back in time and we find out how it happens. Lots of great twists and turns - it's worth putting up with the subtitles. If you speak German then there is no excuse!
High Maintenance (*****) is back on Sky Atlantic. A lovely freeform comedy which no-one in the UK watches. It is really worth finding it around midnight once a week. Thoughtful, funny, kind and wise. Dig it out.
The Widow (**). It's just so... thriller by numbers. I suppose it could be considered vaguely entertaining but the plot holes are so enormous.
The way Kate Beckinsdale always has perfect make up and an amazing array of outfits.. despite the fact her suitcase was stolen when she arrived at the airport.
I mean who is not going to kick up a stink if their one and only suitcase disappears on arriving at an airport?
Apparently since Fleabag google reports a rise in people googling "Is it ok to have sex with a priest?"
In the meantime priests are googling "Is it ok to have sex with a choirboy?"
I read that it has been proven men who grow massive beards have tiny testicles. The opposite is also true.
Given I can't grow a beard, probably is the reason for my enormous package.
It is quite difficult sometimes to pack them into my speedos. That's why I order them in an XXXL.
SEMINAR NEWS
New date May 20th 2019 near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "May seminar interested". There
is a decent early bird discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:
He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Surprisingly it's been a pretty good time with the markets deciding all the delays to Brexit a good thing.
The delays in particular has given a lift to the small cap market and FTSE 250 and all my accounts have seen a serious move up.
Indeed I am sure most stock market traders/investors have had a tremendous run up to Easter - so well done us!
However, I don't know how long this can keep going and I have held onto quite a lot of cash still and I am on alert for potential problems down the line.
Brexit won't be as big a problem as a hard left government. Corbyn is quite likely to win an election with the right totally split.
The only good news with the fact he is now way ahead in the polls is that the Tories would be bonkers to hold an election.
However, it is worth thinking about what shares might do well/badly in a hard left environment. Cash certainly would be worth considering as would learning how to go short.
For now though I am carrying on as normal!
I bought some Synthomer (synt) which came up at the last seminar. This was the idea that won the £100 prize for best trading idea at that seminar!
A very interesting one. It's a speciality chemical supplier, in particular, polymers.
Its profits are going up nicely and it pays nearly 4pc dividend. Looks like a decent longer-term hold which could bring in the money and it could also
get a re-rating higher on good news.
Negatives? The net debt is a little on the high side but well within my usual paremetres and that is also in the price with its low multiple.
It's very liquid as it's worth over a billion and firmly inside the FTSE 250.
I've bought some of payments company Network International (NETW)
This is the biggest listing in Europe so far this year and looks one to get a stake in for a long term potential winner.
Mastercard has bought 50 million shares as a cornerstone investment.
I intend to hang on and not worry about a stop for now as it will be volatile and buy more as hopefully it rises.
It should get a boost soon when it should get included in the FTSE 250 index in the next promotion/demotion shake up that's not far away.
Fund managers will have to buy in. At any rate I can imagine Network's share price will be a lot higher in the future.
I bought GVC after the recent sell off. The sell off as I wrote last time was caused by the bungled big sales of two directors.
The price looks too low now - after all this is a massive bookie now and should soon start to head back to 700p plus.
I have averaged up on a few shares going well.
Always average up and hardly ever average down is the winning formula. Averaging down is the road to not making much. Indeed if you are thinking of averaging down on something consider taking the loss on it instead!
Or else you will hold it foreever while it sinks further or even goes bust, thus affecting your ability to make the big money. You can make some money if you are an average downer, but believe me, you won't make that much. Those who average down don't realise they are in the grip of confirmation bias which means they will never listen to anything negative about the share going down and will stick to it like a loyal football fan.
Investors also who only ever sell things that have made a profit and never sell anything that's made a loss will end up making little profit over time.
The only way to get out of confirmation bias et all is to sell everything you have that is down by more than 35% or more. Don't even look and see what it is. You'll feel much better after you dumped the losers and you'll have lots of cash ready for new buys - and this time, have stop losses!
First average up? I've bought some more Entertainment One (ETO). A delicious long-term winner and as it goes up, it is time to keep buying and average up.
ETO has made a big acquisition which looks very sensible, and also raised a lot of money at 450p very easily showing there is a lot of backing for it. It's an odd one in a way. Not one I would usually touch because of the big debt but it's fine as it is backed by a massive content library worth £1bln plus.
Almost inevitable I think that an apple, amazon or netflix will eventually bid for it and then we could be looking at 650p. It's one of those that should also be safeish to own even under a Corbyn govt.
I've bought back some AB Dynamics (ABDP) after taking some profits on it previously. This car tester is in the right niche area at the right time.
It appears to have a lot of work on its hands and has had to enlarge its ability to test.
While it does begin to look expensive, the thing is to look further down the road as driverless cars will need endless testing. The shares could easily accelerate further.
I also averaged up and bought more of recent buy Oxford Metrics (OMG).
There has been some very decent buying going on in this one and once through 100p, we could see 120p quickly.
And... another buy in payments company Safecharge (SCH).
As I mentioned above I do like payments companies as they are in such a hot area of the market with plenty of market share to go for.
Safecharge also pays out a fantastic dividend since I've held it.
It must be a takeover candidate sooner or later even though it has one major shareholder.
I shorted Lyft which floated in the states. The valuation looks crazy! This is the rival to Uber. BTW Uber said it might never make a profit, a definite lol. That floats shortly and will be looking to short that too.
I tried to short some more Lyft but the SB firms refused so perhaps itn is hard to short now?
A sell then buyback in tiddler K3c. It just kept on falling so I had to sell my last bit for a small profit. It soon became apparent why when a profits warning was released. One does wonder if this warning should have been released a lot earlier? It was certainly flagged by the selling.
Normally I would steer clear but I did buy back a few as perhaps the price was well oversold given the already battered share price. Pays a decent dividend and has cash so doesn't look like a bust or anything like that especially as decent profits are still forecast by the company. Potential massive upside here if it gets back on track.
I sold H and T (seemed at the top of its range) at the buy price using direct access which was rather decent as the spread was quite wide, profit banked is £890. If you
want to find out how to buy at sell prices and sell at buy prices, so cutting out the spread totally, come to a seminar to see how I do it live!
Elsewhere a plethora of great statements and results have given the portfolio a massive lift in recent days.
Where to start? Today? GB Group announced a brilliant statement which has pushed the share price up massively. I hold a lot of GB and
have done for years so a good start to the day.
Also Telecom Plus updated. The initial sell off looked wrong - it wasn't the slightly lower year end profit that matters, it is the forecast for the next with is very strong, with increased divi. Looked a strong statement to me and the shares should lift again.
Kainos shares have flown, was tempted to take some profit but this week's statement was very bullish.
XP Power shares are reacting well to the trading update. Brokers have
pushed up forecasts and a share price target is now near 3000p. Another 500p potential rise to this share price then. On top of the rises there's a big dividend pay out on the way.
ITV is rising nicely and even better it's paid out a big dividend too.
Hollywood Bowl put out a decent statement and is on the rise. As I mentioned above, I couldn't get a lane it was so busy!
Next Fifteen is on the rise after a very decent statement. If it can break through the sticky 550p area, 600 is next. I think it will hit 750p by
year end.
So very happy with the last couple of weeks though tempered with keeping a wary eye out for the economy.
I think the main thing to make sure of is don't have too much in anything illiquid as it might get hard to sell.

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
