A very busy time.. I've been to a Spanish "retreat", held two seminars,
gone racing, been bowling and dived into an icy pool.

Enjoyed meeting those of you who came to the beginners/improvers, seminar, thanks so much for the lovely feedback and some great trades/future trades came up.

And what a lovely follow up group. Just the loveliest people, had
a great time in the bar afterwards with some superb non shares chat!

Thanks for the gifts! The honey, vodka, liqueur, marmalade and EJ's stunning book about love.

You are just amazing people. Bright, funny, witty, entertaining with
a great zest for life. My sort of people.

Some lovely trade ideas, a lot of trades to be (after Brexit blockage?) came up so both seminars were superb for that. Thanks for all your questions, ideas and discussions.

I met some very interesting and lovely characters at the beginner/improver seminar. Well catered for medically with two dentists and a doctor so I knew anything wrong with me that day, no need to panic!

Glad you enjoyed the mini full breakfasts, I had three this time. The hotel excelled with the food I think. And just great to see so many people of all ages and jobs getting on. Please let me know if you didn't get the notes via email the day after.

Good luck with everything and remember level 2 takes a while to sink in. I reckon you beginners have a decent list of ideas!

No events for a while now but there is a new date May 20th with a large first ten to book discount on offer mail me at robbiethetrader with "May interested" in the subject line.

Spent five days in Spain. The first night we stayed in Malaga. It is a really nice town/city.

Bustling with life and really good food at amazing prices. When you're used to UK prices Spanish prices bring a smile.

Glass of wine? 2 Euros. An amazing meal for two which would be at least £70 in the UK. 20 Euros for you, sir.

Breakfast? How about a lovely tub of fresh fruit and yoghurt? 1.50.

You can really see why people head off to live the winter out there. Balmy weather and barmy prices.

In the morning I thought I'd head up to the rooftop pool for a swim. It looked very inviting with the sun blazing down on it. Popped the old speedos on (Sshhh don't tell anyone).

Then I dived in. Within seconds I was out. I don't mind coldish pools but not ones that feel like a bucket of ice! I definitely suffered "shrinkage" in a certain area.

My feedback suggested the hotel could at least warn about the warm looking but deadly icy pool.

We bade farewell to Malaga and headed up into the hills for a spa retreat.

This isn't exactly my sort of thing but Mrs Burns really fancied it as she is into yoga and all that. She already had a programme of yoga classes, massage, pilates and goodness knows what.

My programme? A lounger by the heated pool. A book (NOT finance),
a tea and a twix. (I smuggled five in).

Food strictly healthy, three times a day.

We were welcomed by a lady dressed in hippy gear. She announced we were "beautiful people". I thanked her but didn't agree.

Beauty comes from within, darling..." she said. I guess she is right. Beauty aside, she seemed rather keen to get hold of my credit card pronto. That beautiful, beautiful credit card.

I appeared to be the only bloke in the whole place. It seems to be a place where, how to put this politely... slightly older ladies go for a few days to get away from their partners?

Well, put it this way. The hot Spanish "personal trainer" was very much in demand.

It was a bit odd by the pool. The ladies around it stared at me. "WTF is a bloke doing here?" the message.

The ladies never used the pool, it was a place to sit around. I felt intimidated - I wanted a swim but not brave enough to get in and make a lot of noise just wearing speedos. Also I didn't want to get the Speedos wet due to my giant package. If only I had brought swimming shorts instead.

There was a spot at 2pm most days when the hot trainer held an open session, the poolside emptied and I could grab that swim without eyes boring into me.

Around the place nails were polished, goodness knows what massaged, buddahs abounded.

I didn't have any treatments. I am really ticklish and a massage I had once ended in me convulsed in fits of giggles. The massager probably quit after that session.

Hippy lady hugged us both as we departed after the credit card went through for 2 grand.

I do have the feeling if the card had been declined the hug might not have happened.

I guess we shall have to carry on being beautiful people back in the UK.

All in all, I think being forced to relax ... makes me stressed.

Half term is on the way and we'll be out and about. I have a Watford away game to attend.

Other than that we will probably get a last minute deal (like Brexit hopefully) and nip to Spain
for a few days over half term. Makes a date for the next update hard to confirm, that date
will appear at the top of the site when I know.

Cheers for the feedback from Monday's event. I was amazed at how many stayed at the end and you got a bit of a reward for that! And thanks for the lovely feedback including this one: "It exceeded expectations. It was even more relaxed and crammed with pearls that I had anticipated and you are a most gifted communicator and inspiring without wishing to embarrass you..."

Of course not! Everyone loves praise.. keep it coming!!
If you missed this one there is a new date, May 20th with a large first ten to book discount on offer, mail me for details at robbiethetrader with "May interested" in the subject line. There's a decent early bird discount.

I've send the loot to my podcast comp winners Jason and Tav, spend it wisely guys!

Naked Rambling

Brexit appears to be reaching a boiling point.

Hopefully by my next update some blockage will have been released?

Let's hope so. But a no deal would be a disaster for the shares market. Here's hoping positive develops.

Worse then a no deal would be a hard left government after an election. Get ready to go short!

Anything other than a no deal could see a market bump and would cool the nerves.
Not long to wait for the final season of Game of Thrones. Fans can't wait.

Let's hope they don't disappoint.

A new series of Billions (****) has started on Atlantic.

A bit different this time: Bad head of hedge fund and bad head of the regulators have joined forces.

Meanwhile Axe has it in for his defector Taylor. Whatever it takes he wants him/her to fail.

But in his way is Russian billionaire who has put his money with Taylor. Don't get in the way he is warned or else your second in command may get chopped into bits
by his Mid East mates.

I give this first ep 4 rather than the 5 I was expecting as the scenes with the ex head regulator were just a bit too silly. Hopefully the drama will ratchet up again next time.

Taylor certainly looked good in the wig!

Baptiste (***) proved a decent enough series though I think the character does need to be retired. The last episode disappointed as in so many thrillers when whoeverdidit turns out to be the second most unlikely character after the most unlikely is suddenly proved innocent.

The reason for the cop working for the gangsters seemed very far fetched.
(I am dying so might as well go out with a bang? How does that make sense?)

It is time for Baptiste to get the chop. I can't bear to hear him say "I am not the man I was" again. Also every series he is in, 30 people end up getting killed for one person found. Oh and in this one the one he was trying to find died and the other one is still missing! So thank you Baptiste, and goodnight!

Traitors (***) is a nice to look at series, but I did find myself yawning a few times.

Cheat (****) while unlikely yielding some decent entertainment but only seen one so far.

I feel sorry for anyone on that ferry who had to be helicoptered off as it hit rough seas.

The last cruise I went on was my last. We hit swells and I can't remember ever feeling so bad. And that was in the supposedly calm med.

I had to laugh though at this comment from someone still onboard the ship yesterday.

Some fool was playing the Titanic theme on his mobile and he got into a heated argument with others."

In shock news, Scary Spice has revealed she had a lesbian fling with Ginger Spice.

I assume Scary told Ginger: "I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want."

I assume some attention was paid to Scary's zigazig ha..."

SEMINAR NEWS
New date May 20th 2019 near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "May seminar interested". There
is a decent first ten to book discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:

He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

LOTS OF LOVELY DISCOUNTS HERE!!!
My new spreadbet book is out.

MARKETS

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Anyone know where David Cameron is?? This is all his bloody fault.

It feels the markets are as bored of the Brexit bollocks as I am sure you and definitely I am.

I don't think any of us care anymore. In - out - shake it all about can we just make a decision, get it done and move on?

It is driving all us traders/investors barmy. Can someone make a firm decision - all we want to know is what's happening and stop the limbo. Businesses are fuming and rightly so.

All these mad ego driven politicians are causing us so many problems. There is little doubt
even a piss up in a brewery could not be arranged. (Unless it took five years and 200
votes to get the event underday).

Markets are in the dumps right now. It isn't just Brexit.. it's trouble
in the US, China.. maybe Germany and Italy and possible recession on the cards.

So it's tricky times. And some fear coming in.

Though I have seen a number of times buying on fear can
work.

If in the next couple of weeks a no deal can be avoided we could see a market relief rally.

My strategy has continued to be to stay in a pile of cash and
keep that on the sidelines and I have added to it. But also to keep an open mind and
if there is a decent bargain, maybe pick it up.

Two seminars threw up a number of trade ideas. Lots actually of which I can only cover some here.

I'm afraid this is due to "how much time do I want to give this website when I love doing other things". Because if I put a trade up here I have to remember I did, try and follow it through and make comments. All of which takes time. Then the emails to answer et all.

A lot of the ideas are "future" trades, waiting on prices to come down for the perfect buy.

One thing kept coming up at the first seminar when we were searching for new trades. Shares with net cash are going well and are being marked up.

Shares with big net debt are being marked down.

My suggestion in an uncertain market is - go through your portfolio and axe anything with big debt that isn't backed by assets. (An example Cineworld and ETO have big debt but are backed with assets).

It is definitely worth having some cash sitting there too. Then if the worst happens you've got
buying power to try and pick the worst fear point to buy.

I have added more to the cash pile with some topslicing (selling some rather than all
of something). I was targetting things that have done well and just banking some of
the profits for the time being.

Onto some trades then.

I picked up some OMG. At the very least, if it falls, you can cry: "OMG, OMG".

A very high quality company in a decent area of the market - it develops and markets analytics software for motion measurement in over 70 countries.

Profits are booming here and taking Brexit aside, looks a great longer-term investment and has held steady against recent falls. It also has a net cash pile.

You have to pay for the quality but I was fine stumping up at a pe of over 20. If it carries on performing the shares could head over 100 and higher.
Obviously it won't be immune from a no deal so stop in place.

SimplyBiz (SBIZ) kept coming up on my radar and indeed I put a few orders on it live at Monday's seminar. I was pretty close to getting the "sell" price on DMA but not quite and ended up paying the buy price, drat.

Worth it though in the future perhaps. It provides business support and financial market services to IFAs and the like.

This one looks quite exciting now. First off was a licence agreement with Aviva after some good results.

Then came an acquisition of Fintech platform owner Dafaqto for £74m - after completion Defaqto (a massive tech business) will still have £3.4m cash.

Sbiz raised a lot of money easily for the buy but will have debt afterwards.

It just looks a like a superb buy for Sbiz which will enhance earnings quickly and grow the business emormously.

At this price it looks like a great Isa tuckaway for a couple of years.

A market observation in current conditions is even if a company reports great results expect it to fall (sometimes heavily) on results day, and probably in the days after. Then it picks up and heads back up.

So if you made a few quid on something a strategy could be to sell some the day before results, then buy them back a few days later!

A recent example is Sopheon - (SPE) I sold about half the day before results (banks a profit of £4,340
for the website) but bought some back a couple of days later.

We watched supply and demand at the follow up seminar on this one as it turned back up. Nice results but it doesn't matter as people profit take, and as a share price marches down, stops get hit - market makers get hit by a wave of computerised selling.

This is happening across the board. Once a share starts falling in the current climate the selling (fear?) creates an eventual buying opportunity in the oversold weakness. But Sopheon now looks in super value territory again at under a tenner. The spread always
looks wide but it can usually be dealt well inside it no problem.

I picked up some more Hollywood Bowl (BOWL) live at a seminar getting the sell price on DMA.(Come to a seminar and I will teach you how to do it!)

Buying at the sell price is always great as you start a trade at breakeven by paying no spread. Also makes it easier to get out fast at a small loss if it starts to tank.

Also picked up some more in rival Ten Entertainment (TEG). Bowling alleys are hot! On two visits my local was jammed packed with people bowling, buying crap food at high prices and playing the arcades. My son's school took them bowling last week!

As mentioned above I've added some more cash and done quite a few topslices and the odd total sale.
XP Power (XPP) came up with a very nice statement and looks a great turnaround story and I bought some more after the initial buys I reported last time.

A quite bullish statement and it looks on the turn after its previous falls. Could easily turn a lot higher if Brexit sorts itself out.

I shorted Britvic (BVIC) - this one's had a very good run but I think the fizz could easily come out of these shares.

It has a lot of rivals these days including fevertree and it doesn't seem to be making much headway in the premium market.

However to be on the safe side a guaranteed stop looks to be worth
it here just in case someone like coke makes a bid.

It became pretty obvious to quit IG as close to results, guess what? The shares started to tumble. I made a mistake here, I was on my Spanish travels when share hit my target around 600 and I never took the profits! I got a profit of £280 but only at 575. Probably the shares are priced about right after the statement. Kape shares have been a bit disappointing. The statement was ok but I sold for a small profit of £150. I might get back in but it needs to work out what to do with the cash.

NMC went way over target and I sold the recent trade for a profit of £358. It has slipped since then and might be looking value. K3 had a topslice - It has been hit on Brexit worries (less activity) but priced already as if there has been a profit warning it looks value now and time to eye up buying again. It looks like brilliant value now. Profit £1,055. Also topsliced is Future (half sold) for a profit of £3,655. Very nice double so worthy of a slice. I top sliced some AB after some great rises to bank a profit of £3,916. CC yielded £350.

Sync went for profit of £402 and a small topslice of Cine for a profit of £570.. Two old trades in GVC went
after a big director sell off for a loss of £690 and profit £1,870. Tried a small bounceback spreadbet on it
but that failed so waiting for the turnround which could come soon. And a topslice for some old APH trades for
a profit of £2,250. The boredom overwhelmed.

All of which raises my cash balance again and profit banked for the site are £18,506.

I wish you all the best of luck with your trading at the mo. If it makes you feel tired and irritable, perhaps you find yourself being horrible to people you don't know on bulletin boards, or you are blaming everyone else for losses or Brexit, Neil Woodford, insider traders, Trump, May, the weather, the bloke in the pub, or it affects you or you don't feel good about yourself, stop for a bit!

It's only money. As long as you can afford to lose a bit it won't matter to your life longer-term. If you are
worried it could be you have too much in, or you gambling too heavily or not using stops or hiding behind the
sofa which reminds me behind there needs a good hoovering. Dysoning now?

Chill out, enjoy the spring - be nice to people, be positive, try and love everyone (even grumpy old gits).
The more I live the more I try and love people. Even the really shitty ones. Though it is a
stretch sometimes. Love you lots!

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.
