SEPTEMBER 5, 2012
Long hot lovely Summer

Those of you already booked you ought all to have the venue details, if you don't have those please let me know asap!
Those of you who want to fill in the questionaire re the seminar please return it to me by Sunday morning!
****
I'm back... strangely nice to be back and able to have a rant about things. In fact, dear reader, I now realise this is my therapy and it's free! Saves me £50 an hour.... so thanks a lot for reading and allowing me to share.
It's been a lovely long summer and it's been, well, simply fabulous! Weren't the Olympics great? My 7-year-old Christopher has has gone to the Paralympics today... one of the school dads is taking him alongside his friend to see blind football.
He can't wait and we can't wait to hear all about it. Full report next time.
Plenty of holiday highlights, probably the highlight a wonderful time in France where we rented a mini house in a French chateau with its own vineyard.
Mrs NT liked it so much she gave it a great write up on tripadvisor. Afraid I am not telling you where it is as we haven't booked next year yet!
As usual I had no idea where we were going except I knew we were going from Southampton airport rather than Heathrow as that seemed sensible during the Olympics.
Although it did mean taking a Flybe flight. Our hearts sank when we saw the plane. A small one which looked one step up from a helicopter. Yikes!
"I've seen one or two of these on Air Crash Investigation" I muttered to a few people, probably unwisely.
Anyway all flights were delayed and apparently this is fairly common. Once up in the air every bit of cloud gave the plane a chance to wobble about. I made a mental note to short Flybe shares as soon as I could. (If I got out alive).
Which proved rather a good move as the shares sank not long after! Well, to be fair they did get us there and back alive, but it was delayed on the way back too.
I really wouldn't want to be getting on one of those planes in the winter. However Southampton airport is nice and small and easy to get in and out of.
Anyway we got to the airport in France and got our hire car, and rather hungry after the flight delay we stopped in at the motorway services where I had the worst "meal" ever!
Which was a bit of a surprise in France. Some kind of nuked chicken and over nuked veg.
We got half way to the chateau but unfortunately one line appeared to be missing from the directions which meant we promptly got lost. The hotel tried to guide us on the phone which soon decided it needed a charge and shut itself down.
Just as we lost all hope and decided to cut losses (always a good idea) by stopping off at any hotel what would have us... then I saw a sign. Phew.
It was all worth it as the chateau was amazing.
We had our own little house with our own pool. Christopher was able to wander anywhere and play with the other kids. A great kids club too. It was brilliant being able to do our own thing but have the back up of a hotel style restaurant and service if needed.
Even better you were expected to clean up after yourself so no irritating knocks on doors or mini bar knock ups.
We went driving around lovely local villages, buying local produce to cook in our "house".
Of course there were trips to local beaches and restaurants too. We were sad to have to leave. The weather was amazing, over 32 degrees and sunny every day.
We swam, played tennis and football, ate great food, what more could you want?
All in all a wonderful time and we'll probably go back there next summer.
Next up is a two week jaunt to Florida during the October half term, a road trip! Can't wait!
We also spent some of the summer here... Christopher trained me every night in football skills that he learned from the Fulham FC academy.
A great job they do there teaching the kids. The boys love playing and being coached all day and the coaches are remarkable with the work they do with real patience.
So anyway I can now so a Maradonna, a scissor kick, a volley and a sidestep. All badly and very slowly.
However Christopher informs me my progress is "promising".
Shortly he'll be playing for the A team of his local league club and that means a lot of Sunday mornings cheering him on. I'll enjoy every minute!
He's also been doing gymnastics which he enjoyed too except "the dancing at the end."
Relatives also visited over the summer, we had some great meals, some fantastic walks out and about, and now it is back to the routine. Which means I have to remember how to do Christopher's tie up as he starts back at school tomorrow.
Year Three. Where does the time go? And what the hell is eight times nine?
Next two weeks are very busy for me, there's a seminar, football, relatives visiting and this weekend I host a big birthday 70s bash. As the host I am hosting lots of party games including spot the intro and musical chairs.
God knows how it will go .. but I gather there will be plenty of 70s spirits in evidence, so it should go with a swing. Groovy baby.
I'm working on the Spot The Intro comp and trying to come up with some hard ones. Goodness some 70s music was terrible. Brotherhood of Man and The Wurzels anyone?
I did find one forgotten catchy one though.
S-S-S Single Bed by Fox. I can imagine that being sampled and rapped by Dizzie Rascal, could be a massive hit. Hey that was my idea, if you flog it to him I want some of the royalties okay?
Meanwhile I've had enough of Rianna. Christopher keeps singing it and it's driving me mad. I'm going to start singing Pound The Alarm by Nikki Minaj and get my own back.
Seminar September 14Th Space Still Available
My next seminar is next Friday September 14th, if you are interested in a seat mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "september seminar interested" in the subject line.
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!
If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Lots of lovely feedback on July's event including this from Janet: "Thank you so much for what was a terrific 12 hour marathon on your part. I feel like I have been through a 12 hour therapy session that has given me back some confidence. I now feel I can indeed make trading work for me, after a few years of trying and testing and not quite comprehending and co-ordinating the right ingredients. The last late session researching various companies was a real help."
And Colin: "Highlights of the day for me were Level 2 and going through the selection process to choose shares. I have followed advice from your book in the past, and it really has worked for me before, but even though I understood the concept of Level 2 I never quite saw the real benefits of it. Two minutes into your explanation of how you use it I was kicking myself. I could not believe that I had done all my trades without it! Watching you check some shares was very useful, especially the speed which you can eliminate or shortlist the numerous possibilities out there. Just watching you doing it showed me how much time I had been wasting doing the same thing but by a much more torturous process."
* The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!
Lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.
I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.
Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.
Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

I read an excellent stock market thriller on holiday,
"The Fear Index" by Robert Harris.
A maths genius joins a hedge fund and together they create a monster trading robot giving it billions to play with.
The robot starts to short everything and starts to cause massive market crashes. Then takes on a mind of its own.
Plenty of excellent page turning stuff here, if you are a trader or investor a lot of it will ring true with the robots almost already in charge of some shares!
There's tons of drama and action and I couldn't put it down though it helps as it is a thriller about the markets!
If you're into the markets you'll love it.. here's an order link to the book:
http://books.global-investor.com/books/860358/Robert-Harris-/The-Fear-Index/
Enjoy the read!!
Want to know what my last monthly elec/gas/phone/broadband/mobile phone bill was for me and Mrs NT?
What so you reckon? £250? £300?
Nope, wrong. Nothing at all. In fact, a CREDIT of £67 on my bill!
How so? Well, Utility Discount Warehouse offers 10% off your energy bill every year as long as you have 1,500 Telecom Plus shares.

I use all the services myself, and have done for many years. You get a UK call centre with calls answered quickly and a monthly bill.
An interesting email from a reader. The thrust of it was he was going to buy a share after doing a lot of research but then it went up 12% and he hadn't bought it yet. So he felt angry.
How does he stop/halt the feelings of anger?
Well, you have to take the emotion out of trading. Which isn't easy.
I suggested he should read this book.. by Jason Zweig
http://books.global-investor.com/books/256158.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
This is the one to read on psychology. Great read.
Fancy getting the naked trader updates direct into your inbox? And a bit before it gets updates on the net including news from my pension trades made from my SIPP?

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.
To sign up and get an excelllent weekly education programme use this link:
Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Sep 14th
Price is £590 plus vat. That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. There is currently a decent early bookers discount off that price - mail for details!
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "June seminar interested" or "July seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
Seeing all those wonderful sportsmen and women competing. Just fantastic. Even better they knocked all the usual "news" off the TV.
It was a great rest from the tedious politicians.
If only we can carry on the spirit of the olympics into the rest of life.
Ie ":Let's go for it GB!" Let's all work hard, produce new jobs. Won't happen sadly.
But sadly the arseho... I mean the politicians are back and that means acres of coverage. I'm going to give up on it all and watch DVDs instead of the news from now on.
Nick Clegg comes up with another tired "idea" - how did he think up his "wealth tax". Probably on the expensive bit of beach he was on on holiday while flipping off his lib dem brown sandals.
Idiotic of course. No plan to the idea.
In fact the "idea" sums up all that is wrong with politicians from al parties. That they couldn't give a stuff about getting this country back on its feet.
All they care about is getting/staying in power and they will say whatever to get the votes.
Nick Clegg is the worst of them all. You can't believe a word he says. The "wealth tax" won't happen, he just thinks it might save his skin as lib dem leader. Such a "temporary" tax is very hard and expensive to manage and would produce little revenue.
But it would mean the wealth creators, those that create the jobs might think "Stuff it then, I'm not going to work so hard". Or else they will head off abroad.
Surely better to just ensure the wealthy pay the 50% tax by doing away with all the tax dodges.
Me? I would cut all tax to 30%. I don't see why half (actually it is nearer 60%) of anyone's money should be taken. A massive tax cut for all would produce more money and end the recession. So there!
Anyway with the end of the paralymics comes the tedious party conferences. They go on for ever. And another excuse for doing nothing for the country.
I don't see the point of a reshuffle. One tit exchanged for another. They love to promote those that look good on TV rather than those with any substance.
Time they stopped arresting people for defending their own homes. Sorry but if you try and rob someone and you get hurt or shot, then, well it is tough s*** !
The normal Big Brother proved the show should have ended long ago however celebrity Big Brother is usually worth a look here and there.
There's nothing like seeing desperate "celebrities" trying to get our attention and showing us how lovable they are.
Of course just because they are there we know they are super needy, vain, greedy.. etc.
That girl who flirts a lot is a scream. She makes money over the internet by inviting men to buy her gifts. And these idiots really do! They buy her thousands of pounds of stuff and they never even get to meet her.
I don't really know whether she should be admired or damned. My feeling is if the men are rich and stupid enough she might as well take the stuff offered. I can see Julian Clary is there to drum up publicity for his tour. Afraid I can't see how he is deemed funny. Just a load of tedious double ententres.
Julie Goodyear proved you're never too old enough to be a poisonous backstabber. It's quite amusing despite being on TV all those years she isn't self-aware enough to realise what she's been doing and all her asides will be broadcast. Martin Kemp is pretty much the only one in there who is geninuely nice.
Apart from the Olympics and the Sopranos I can't think of anything that was worth watching over the summer but the TV was mainly off anyway.
A new Dragons Den is on the way which is always worth a watch.
My thought is if you do go on there and get an offer... never accept it! You now know you have a great idea which the dragons would like to exploit by taking most of the value of your company! Say no thanks and borrow the money!
The X Factor is the same as it was last year, why is anyone watching? Red and Black is a horrible format.
I guess it's back to DVDs.... until they force you to download everything..
In the Guardian on the front page it says: Naomi Wolfe on her new book "Vagina".
I shall shortly be launching my new book: "Testicles".
The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.
http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Agree about facebook - the youngsters who leapt onboard when it started,
posting dire photos of them doing things they shouldn't are now grown up and
getting on in their careers and errrrrr wondering if that photo of them
mooning in the disco in Majorca was a good idea!
Nice to think I am not the only unsociable grump to not want to follow the
minutiae of my friends and colleagues mostly boring lives!
I am in the states just now and feel the Starbucks asking name thing is just
more marketing bollocks to get them noticed. If they just speeded up the
service I might go there but americans seem to need all this 'service
bollocks' to make them think they are getting their moneys worth.
Thanks Anne,
well of course I agree, it's nearly all bollocks!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!
Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..
Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.
I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.
ADVFN level 2 offer
First great deal: If you want level 2, through me it is only £350 for your first year including VAT!

Markets
My goodness, a terrific summer of gains for me. And even more terrific, I was enjoying my hols and despite taking my laptop with me whereever we went, I hardly needed it. Everything pretty much went up!
Nearly all the trading plans went to plan.
A good number of trades went up and through their targets so I took a good deal of profit here and there. One or two question marks appeared here and there too so profits taken in those as well.
I did get one or two trades here and there but on the whole it's been a lovely relaxing summer, totally unlike that horrible summer of 2011 !
I haven't updated for some time so it's a bit tricky. If I wrote all my trades down here since I last updated it would probably take me two days to do it. Given life is short and getting shorter as I get older I'd really rather spend the time doing other things (sorry!) (the garden is calling me right now!)
And in any event a lot of trades I've already bought and sold and taken profits on. I've banked a considerable amount over the summer.
So I think the best idea is to concentrate on just the most recent trades I did. And give you an idea of whereabouts profits and losses have been taken during the months of July and August. Best I can do.
I've shorted (bet on it to go down) Manchester Utd on the American market at under 14 dollars. I just can't see this as a real business - and anyway they beat us (Fulham) 5-0 last season and 3-2 this so I can't think of a better reason to short the shares can you? I'm sure Berbatov will be proud of my short!
Also brokers were pumping up Man U shares yesterday saying they are worth 17 or 20 dollars. That's a sure sign they are only worth about ten dollars right?
APR was something I lost a few quid on, it looked tempting when it first launched but a question mark appeared and it tanked soon after even further. However the fall off has now made it a buying opportunity and I bought a couple of times at 640 and just the other day at 752. My hope it will eventually head back towards a tenner. It's having another good day today. I like this temporary power sector and this could end up being a long-term hold.
I've bought some more Nichols (NICL) at 716 - Britvic and AG Barr are getting together, what's next on their agenda? Well I reckon a pretty good chance they will buy Nichols. Not right now but be surprised if it didn't happen sometime in the future so I have continued to load up on the shares. I'm already up more than £2,000 on the shares bought in the 500s and 600s.
Molins (MLIN) is a nice little company I've made money on in the past. A slightly disappointing statement saw the shares fall but imo they fell too far so I nabbed a few at 109.07 targetting a run back up to 125ish. They say the second half should be good.
Keller (KLR) is having a nice run and its sector is back in favour so lobbed in a spreadbet buy at 503.
And I've been loading up with a lot more Sportingbet (SBT) bagging some more at 34 to add to the ones already in a tremendous profit bought in the late 20s. Plenty of buying stilll going in now at above 40p - a failed bid on that one previously, could another be on the way?
In various other trading bits of the summer which I'm not going to post here, I've been buying a lot of 3D systems (an American company) and up over £15,000 on spreadbets on it and in my sipp, bought at under 30 dollars and in the 30s and now over 40 dollars). Traded Fenner nicely from where it finds support ar 340-345 to where it can't get above (400ish) - Made a nice few quid shorting the appalling Facebook and grabbed some quick and easy profits on Cape among a few others. I got the odd thing wrong but that didn't matter as it was easy to take one or two really tiny losses. Really, it's been a very easy summer to make money and I made the most of it. However probably now is time to be a bit wary....
All the suits are back at their desks now and lots of meetings around so my guess is we will soon say goodbye to calm markets and welcome back volatility, which is great for day traders. Which way the volatility will take us I haven't the foggiest but no surprise if we ended September sharply lower, or sharply higher. If you told me the FTSE will be at 5200 or 6100 by then, neither would surprise!
However I have got a FTSE short on at just under 5800 on the basis September can be a poor month sometimes and it keeps banging up against that level. I'd now use a trailing stop so if it goes back up I'd just bank some profit. However do remember I am definitely NOT a Ftse trader so please take no notice.
It's election year in the States so there is a lot of vested interest I think in keeping the market up or at least not too far down just before the election...
Onto some profit and loss taking...
Photo Me went sweetly through target and sold at 43.5 for a profit of £213. This one has been a lovely swing trade many times now. Maybe it will pay off again soon.
The spreadbet in Playtech went lovely to plan - those of you who read spreadbet Magazine last month will have read a massive piece I wrote about the trade explaining how I planned it etc in great detail together with the stop loss and how I would raise it under the price etc.... it was nice to be able to write about a trade in big depth.
So as the plan dictated I sold half the position at 392 to bag a profit of £620 . The plan now is to wait and see if it can bust through 400, if it can I'll hold for more gains, if it starts to recede I'll take the rest off the profits. Lovely trade.
Vislink reported very nicely and just topsliced a small amount, so taking out the last website trade at 33.15 for a profit of £1,045. However a lovely running profit building of over £7,000 on the rest. Management still seems bullish so worth holding on I think to the main bulk for more gains.
MMC went up to resistance for a profit of £845. My final bit of what turns out to be dud gamble Cad went for a loss of £650 (though I did sell some a good while back in the 30s in small bits for a profit) Seems fair though to take the full hit for the site trade.
Corin bust right up through its target and seemed a good point to take some excellent profits of £1,660.
After taking profits a statement came out and I managed to buy back in at just over 50p and resold at 57 for a quick turn, very nice, won't put that on the site as just a quick trade. I'm hoping to buy back again in the early 50s or even better late 40s.
IP also easily reached its target and I sold some rather than all as want to keep some long-term so for web purposes I'll close the 102 position (142.5)for a profit of £1,620 leaving open the other position which has built up a nice profit of around £3,000.
Question marks appeared in two longer-termers, New Brit and BTG. Both are still fine in general however their statements showed some doubts and that's the time to sell some. I sold part of the BTG to close out the spreadbet for a profit of £250 and two of the site positions for profits of £4,400 and £4,722 but I have kept some of the shares (one of the site positions) and I'm looking to buy a few back lower. I felt I was way too slow parting with some BTG but nicely faster parting with some Nbpo. Nbpo went for a profit of £230 (771.23) but kept the real long-term ones which are still in a massive profit.
That's total profits banked for the website of a whopping £14,955.

I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..
Apologies the short table had'nt been updated for ages, webmaster had problems getting into it, it'll get sorted as soon as poss - closed trades if you missed them included profits in Afren, £290, Senior £270, Northgate loss £210, Domino loss £110, Mecom profit £2,000.
