I am feeling grumpy today after a very long night of hell last night! More in a mo.

Never mind, in a couple of weeks will be relaxing in Spain on a 5 day "spiritual" type holiday! 3 days later back for the seminar. I think I can promise I should be very relaxed for that one...

Looking forwards as ever to meeting those of you coming to the seminar on the 18th. See you all from 10am. I have the famous mini breakfast awaiting in the first break, a super-dupa lunch, chocolate galore and, oh yes, lots of share talk!

One person who is coming wrote in his questionaire: "Expect some daft questions."

Great! I love them. As a hater of jargon. If you ask what you think is a daft question you can bet someone else wanted to ask it too, but felt "too daft". That's just daft.

We'll do lots of live share screening, supply and demand, research and maybe we can even unearth a gem or three

Hope you all enjoy the day. And I'll see the more "advanced" group on the 22nd.

STOP PRESS! If you missed Monday's event a new date is May 20th, see above!
My goodness it's been busy!

My leg is gradually recovering from my fall off the bike but after ten days stuck at home I went too crazy getting out and about again too fast.

I at least tried to use the stuck at home time by getting on with writing Naked Trader 5. Frankly, it's been tough! It's harder to update something you already wrote than write something totally new.

Anyhow slowly getting there. It has been interesting going through stuff people told me on email and at seminars but I love to pass on things people got wrong - and right as I know it is going to help so many.

It also helps me to stay on the straight and narrow as I know I could easily become a gambler if I diverted at all from unemotional trading.

It was interested looking back to things I was doing in 2010-2014 I would never do now. It's a continual learning process and that's what makes it all so interesting. Anyhow I hope NT 5 will be out roughly in October.

I don't think I've been doing my damaged leg any favours by overusing
it walking to various events after the ten days stuck indoors.

I've taken my son to two away games, West Ham and last night Southampton! I've gone racing, met an old journalist college friend, eaten out in pubs and generally overdoing it on a "Life's too short, live it" basis.

The walk to West Ham Stadium from the tube was way longer than I thought - and we were late so I hobbled along as fast as I could.

Getting into the stadium was difficult with security holding things up. The ex Olympic stadium is impressive once you're in - a bit like a slightly smaller Wembley.

We missed the goal our (rubbish) team scored. Next thing we knew their player pushed the ball into the net with his hand not spotted by the ref!

Of course we lost as usual but I didn't like the atmosphere of a Friday night derby with lots of pissed young blokes.

The guy in front of me spent more of the game flicking rude signs at the home fans (as if they care!). I was tempted a few times to say "Are you here to watch the game or just here for a fight, you loser?" But I didn't quite have the courage.

Very glad to leave!

I had promised my son one weeknight game in the season so I picked him up from his weekly boarding school. Train ride to Southampton. Coach back to London.

Early morning drive to drop him back at school. The whole lot costing £200. Why couldn't his major interest be, something like table tennis? Or tiddlewinks?

Frankly I had been dreading it. And with some reason. After two hours of getting there we ended up at the (very nice) St Mary's stadium in Southampton.

The Wednesday night masochists (I mean fans) were either lairy teens and early 20s who wanted a drink and a shout or over 65s who also
mainly wanted to shout filth at their team.

The sensible over 21s to 60s were nowhere to be seen. Both sets needed the loo an awful lot. The young ones to get rid of the pints of beer and the old ones.. (prostate)...

I was sitting mainly with the GOGs (Grumpy Old Gits). In between
loo visits they seemed happy shouting at the players what to do (they can't hear you. Neither can your neighbour, he forgot the hearing aid)

If you want to imagine what they're like think of the Paul Whitehouse
GOG characters. Like that.

Southampton were soon 2-0 up. This is easy. All you have to do
against Fulham is get a corner, lob a ball into the box and a goal
is yours. Then sit back and relax till end of game.

In the bits where they weren't in the loo or on their phones the fans
sang songs about how crap their team is and an excitable bunch of
young 'uns unfurled a flag which read "xufdm fnsi skoo fooff"

No idea what it meant as it was upside down and a long way off. But it probably said Fire the manager. Fair enough as the manager did look like he'd rather be at home with a nice cup of tea.

The absolutely dire game at last came to an end and we found an away fan coach. Except the guy wouldn't let us on. "If you weren't on it coming here, I dunno," He says. "You'll have to wait for Vera." He grimaced. "Erm she's a bit tricky..."

We waited for Vera nervously while the coach filled up. Vera turned out to be an ancient old lady and not the nice sort. She looked like she'd won the lottery but had thrown out the winning ticket.

Well you didn't bother to travel down with us," she grunted. "I dunno."

Vera," I said. "I have got tickets here, are you going to leave me and my son stranded in Southampton?"

Like Theresa May, and the Fulham manager I had no Plan B.

Vera grunted. Eventually she beckoned us. "Get on," she scowled. "I get all panicked when this happens. When my numbers aren't right, I don't like it, it puts me in a tizz."

Sorry Vera," I said. "We didn't bother coming with you down here as we were travelling from somewhere else. I am really sorry we weren't here for the way down."

Get on," she says. "And don't sit in someone else's seat."

The upshot is there were two seats left, apart from each other with the spare seats with bags on. In other words "Don't try and sit here."

I soon realised the next 90 minutes I'd be sat next to an old bloke who looked a good 25 stone. He grumbled. No idea how I managed to squeeze in next to all the wobbly flesh.

Next came the farts. The oldies were happy to let go without warning.
Eau de burger/beer flatulence the whole way back. I tried not to panic. "Breathe through the mouth," I urged myself. "This will end eventually."

My companion needed the loo a lot which involved a lot of effort from him getting up and back again. He refused to look or talk to me even though I tried some pleasant small talk.

Meanwhile Vera came round with a collection for the driver. "Just say yes if you want to put something in," she grumbled.

To get back into Vera's good books, I grandly took out a tenner.

Do you want change?" asked Vera. "No, it's fine," I breezed magnanimously. "All right," said Vera, perhaps conceding I wasn't a t*** after all.

Although I got the feeling she might have her eye on the tenner. (!)

90 minutes later we were nearly home. "The filth on Sunday," says one of the GOGs. Let me translate: "We're playing Chelsea on Sunday".

The fart stink had got unbearable. Just as well smoking is banned as one match and the whole coach would have exploded.

My son had merrily slept his way through the whole thing. In bed at midnight. Up again at half six for the drive to school. Knackered.

How about a nice quiet day? No chance. An email box full of what looked like complex questions. ("Can I use an Isa as I am Australian") I felt like Vera. HTFSIK? Can't you just google it?

Plus I got to write this update then I remember I had arranged to go to Kempton early evening racing tonight with a friend. Ooops, better get to the cash machine!

HELP !!!!! Well I guess life is for living.

Sorry to say I can't do the normal update in two weeks. Much as I love you all I agreed to five days in Spain at a "retreat". Yoga and pilates all day.

That's what they think. I'm going to go missing just before classes then order breakfast in bed. Also I might disappear in the afternoon, find a local cafe order a tea and eat the twix I will have smuggled in.

So next update will be the week after both seminars, so Monday Mar 25th.
Cheers for the feedback from Feb's event. I was amazed at how many stayed at the end and you got a bit of a reward for that! And thanks for the lovely feedback including this one: "It exceeded expectations. It was even more relaxed and crammed with pearls that I had anticipated and you are a most gifted communicator and inspiring without wishing to embarrass you..."

Of course not! Everyone loves praise.. keep it coming!!

I look forwards to seeing some of you again, possibly at the March follow up.

If you missed this one there is a new date, March 18th with a large first ten to book discount on offer, mail me for details at robbiethetrader with "March interested" in the subject line. There's a decent early bird discount.

I've send the loot to my podcast comp winners Jason and Tav, spend it wisely guys!

Naked Rambling

Is the whole Brexit thing ever going to end? Looks like the answer is no.

Will we ever get an answer? I reckon all of us are Brexited out. We can't take it anymore. In, out, half in, half out, just make a decision so we can get on with our lives.

Oh, and any decision is just the start of getting out btw. Believe me, we have years of this ahead.

At least we have a new party. Or do we?

I'm thinking of starting my own party. "The Bald Truth". Only women and bald or balding blokes are allowed.

We will only tell the truth. At PMQ's as leader when I get questioned, I will simply say "I haven't got a f****** clue, sorry about that." "Yes you are right I have been a bit crap I will try and do better."

First policy is to outlaw that the bald guy in any TV series has to be the bad guy.

From being promoted to office, we will ensure bald blokes will become the good guy heroes and blokes with lots of hair will be the baddies.

Baldism will be outlawed and anyone making a joke against baldies will have their hair shaved off. (Women exempt).

A Labour MP was asked to say sorry... for ... not saying Labour were too sorry for being crap. It's all very sorry.

The whole of politics appears to be a feature length edition of "The Thick of It". But it is actually real. You really couldn't make any of this up.

Offerings on TV seem to be picking up again.

But let's deal with the worst first. "Warren".(*) FFS! Are we in
2019 or 1970?

How in the era of brilliant sitcoms with biting wit and satire like
Catastrophe and Fleabag can this pathetic sitcom exist?

I sat pinned with horror to the sofa as this wretched script could not be saved by decent actors. Antique "jokes" and a lead character bereft of any charm.

A comedy about midlife anger at everything could work. But not this.
Cliche after cliche rounded off with the biggest of all, the comedy clairvoyant.

I feel sorry for Martin Clunes who is great but he should
have taken one look at the script and yelled "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here..."

I can only guess someone from the production company must be sleeping with the commissioning editor at the BBC. Whoever it is must be really good in bed.

Just managed to get to the remote in time to switch over to Amazon's "The Amazing Mrs Maisel" (*****).

Hurrah, back to wit, fun and sublime writing. Get stuck into this great series about a Jewish mum who ends up in comedy.

Alan Partridge in "This Time" (****) to the rescue for the BBC as he is back as the nervous stand in co-host of a kind of "The One Show" where everything is supposed to be bland and jolly.

Of course Alan as usual screws things up with some brilliant lines, though not all hit home as we seem to missing his normal writer Arando

Not sure the North Norfolk sidekick works that well. I also hope we get to see more behind the scenes in production next time, I guess there must be more characters coming up. Those gripes aside, a great return.

Netflix offers the brilliant "Dirty John". (*****) I did suggest we watch "Dirty Vanessa" (******) instead but no joy there.

It's a decent drama based on a true story regarding a man who stalks rich women, gets them to marry him and then grabs lots of loot to satisfy a drugs habit.

Gripping and entertaining the whole way through go and watch Dirty John! Thank me later!

Two mainline sunday dramas, Traitors (***) and Baptiste (****)

Traitors is a little disappointing - kind of see where it's going but there isn't an awful lot of dramatic tension yet.

Baptiste is promising - the writers on that one are real pros having produced lots of similar. Solid entertainment.

It was worth tuning in for the last minutes of the cup final to see the Chelsea goalie refusing to come off followed by a lovely managerial anger breakdown. Great entertainment.

If I was the manager I'd have lifted up the screen they use to switch players and put up "Get the f*** off" on it.

Anyhow the goalie got fined a week's wages. (£85,000,000).

SEMINAR NEWS
New date May 20th 2019 near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "May seminar interested". There
is a decent first ten to book discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:

He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

LOTS OF LOVELY DISCOUNTS HERE!!!
My new spreadbet book is out.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

NEXT UPDATE MON MAR 25TH (to take account of trades
that come up at both seminars)
Brexit of course continues to make markets confusing.

The pound goes up if there is any sign of a delay or we are
going to stay in.

Though seen as good news by markets it isn't good news for the top companies as the currency pushes their prices up and down.

What's confusing is some shares like a delay or no Brexit, some prefer a no deal etc and it's all on currency moves.

So the FTSE could be down a lot but shares you own up and vice versa.

I'm just continuing to wait the whole thing out with a heavy cash pile.

That doesn't mean to say I'm not going to look for opportunities (I really hate double negatives, how did I end up with such an awful sentence?)

But anything at the mo is for small money. However. There is the old saying buy at the point of fear. But then there is also Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread?

Which old cliche to go for? I do suspect a fudged deal will go through and give
the markets a nice bounce.

Marks and Sparks and Ocado reckon the deal is a "win win".

I suspect it's a "lose lose". Waitrose shoppers want Waitrose.

M and S is ok for a quick shop if you want a treat. We all know it's expensive, fine for a treat. A nice pack of posh biscuits, chocolate, a pudding, a sandwich, a ready meal.

But not the staples. Everything is pretty much pricey in Marks. I doubt many would want M and S delivered.

I guess Waitrose customers will just revert to the Waitrose delivery service though apparently it's not that great.

Win win? Looks like it just makes everyone pissed off. Hang on this reminds me of something else going on... beginning with B....

Anyhow this is a long-winded way of saying I'm short of M & S again. I got a voucher this morning for 20pc off its awful clothes. Make it 90pc and I'll buy something.

I bought some IG Group. (IGG) You may remember I made nearly £9,000 by shorting these from the 800s to the late 500s.

They went down after being hit by new regulations affecting spreadbet and CFD firms. In essence they can't offer as much leverage as in the past which means less profits.

A warning from CMC and Plus have pushed the share price down further but this looks like a good point to actually buy some.

That's because IG looks a decent company not only doing spreadbetting and CFDs but also Isas and normal stockbroker services giving it a wider range. I wonder whether it might even become a bank and do banking services soon too. I don't know why it doesn't re-enter the sports market, seems like money for old rope there. Sports betters always lose eventually.

Anyhow it looks somewhere near a bottom with bad news in the price and no good news there at all. The boss bought some shares around these levels. The risk? A warning. A guaranteed stop with a spreadbetting firm then!

I've bought some more of Gb Group (GBG). I've held these for many years (since 20p!) and made a lot - the website positions show profits of nearly £50,000. Time for a new buy here.

The company is in a sweet spot in a very exciting area of the market - identification.

Everyone wants to know who we are and it works in all areas of the ID market. I suspect face recognition is going to be a pretty big thing.

It is spending money buying up other companies in its area and just raised £160m to snap up IDology.

This money was raised readily, a good sign. GB should continue to grow. Downside? The shares are not cheap - but sometimes I don't mind paying for quality over value so for now I expect to ignore volatility and try and hold on perhaps buying some more on any weakness.

Looks like a great buy and shutaway for an isa and come back in a couple of years.

I've taken a short in Card Factory CARD (Betting on it to go down). I
can't see any appeal in this one at all.

Though it makes a decent profit they aren't forecast to climb much. It has a big debt. The upcoming generation just doesn't buy cards anymore and competition is huge.

So as I don't get how this could grow at all it seems like a likely short and so I am in for it to go down.

I have added to my short in Devro (DVO) after results.

It makes little sense to value a company at £300m. Fine if you
just look at the profit.

That is up a bit but it is the net debt that is the worry, up to £142m
from £135, a bad sign. Also growth looks limited.

If you were Warren Buffet, would you spend £300m on a company making £32m but owed £142m? I don't think so! I would suggest it's only a buy at nearer £200m. I'd expect it to gradually sink to 150 where there is fair value.

The Sunday papers were full of not great stuff about ITV in fact results were pretty much signalled in advance. I sold half just in case to bank a profit of £165 and kept the rest. Bought back after results.
Shares fell on results with Britbox looks a bit of a "meh".

Trouble with ITV of course is, you get bored and sell and the day after that of course will be a bid! I'll probably pick some more up and sit it out. The weaker the share price the higher the chance of a bid.

So I bought back. A buy in the 120s will probably reap benefits at some point, with patience.

Some profits banked. Fcrm reached target nicely so sold for a profit of £699. It might repeat the 45-54 trading range one more time.

A loss banked of £295 on the recent Redde trade. I blame Jeremy Corbyn, Brexit, Donald Trump and the sunny weather for my loss. It wasn't my fault at all, obviously.

The results weren't terrible, I just hadn't figured on the net debt figure. There's nothing badly wrong - there just isn't anything to push the price higher and I exited fast after the report to take the loss. Best to just bank a loss fast when you realise it wasn't what you thought. Hanging on usually just becomes painful. It might do ok soon though after its fall.

Time to take substantial profits on a long-termer, BTG. It has been bid for, and I was hanging about for a rival bid.

Doesn't seem worth holding anymore so rather than wait a few weeks for the cash I've taken it and profits for the website banked are £21,323.

A lot more for me personally so over the years it has been a nice one. Thanks!

And a profit take in Ramsdens of £2,472.

A weird reason for selling maybe!

It was tipped by a major mag tipster. This guy usually pushes up a share price by a lot. He triggered an avalanche of buying yet the price only went up a touch.

Since then it hasn't much moved despite a lot of buying interest. That means there must be a big seller out there. It might be nothing or something but for now I've taken profits.
I exited the top up in k3 for a small loss as was knocking about stop.

I have a few cos reporting in March and I'm trying to figure out whether to sell a few before results or not.

A lot have done well but the problem is on even a good report shares can go down on results day as people take profits or decide the price is too high.

I'll have a good look at each and decide whether to bank a bit of profit, a loss or a break even! Probably do it before heading for the relaxing Spanish break.

There are quite a few sudden warnings about so time to be careful.

If a Brexit deal is done (even a crap one) we could see a nice bounce
on the way in which case my cash pile will be deployed.

Interesting times! Good luck if you get involved!

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.
