So, those of you with kids, how's half-term? Are they driving you nuts?

We've had lots of fun sorted for Christopher, he's had play dates galore! Climbing centres, football days, tennis coaching.

Frankly I was knackered after the weekend. Two hours standing in the cold as his team played against the Chelsea FC development squad.

Then an hour in the morning of training - 90 minutes of sitting in the cold watching our awful Fulham team getting turned over by Ipswich (they have amazing fans).

The evening was two hours standing watching Macy Gray, more on that in a mo! Can someone get an old man a seat somewhere warm?

Granny is coming this weekend and so that lets us parents off the leach and this Saturday I'm getting the prize I won at the school racing evening.

Which was. A day out at the races with one of the teachers who loves racing. And was involved in it a while back like I was (though I was a lot further back)

We're off to Kempton Park then for hopefully a fun afternoon out - know it rather well as many years ago when I part- owned a horse or two had a winner there.

And we got married there too! That was a fun day, crazy John McCririck hosted the event for me (He's really nice in real life, and even a tad shy so don't believe the TV act)

Apparently teacher has some great tips lined up for us as he has a friend who works for a website that keeps up to date with where the big money is going, so here's hoping. I'll let you know how much we lost next time,

So we went off to see Macy Gray in Shepherds Bush...valentines day, gift for the Mrs...

Macy was excellent except perhaps an extended drum solo while she changed was excessive and tedious.

She has a massive stage presence and handles it all with aplomb

I really enjoyed it which surprised me given that she is more to Mrs NT's taste than mine.

A couple of surprising covers of "Do ya Think I'm Sexy" and Melanie's "Brand New Key" kept things interesting. And she kept everyone waiting right till the last second for her big hit "Try".

All in all a great night out and definitely much better to be standing than sitting for these types of gigs.

So it's my choice next so time to look up some likely PItbull gigs. Talking gigs I think the best one I ever saw was Mark Ronson a couple of years ago.

And the worst? The Three Degrees! When will I see you again? Never hopefully...

I've felt for a while that I should do some volunteering and you may rmember recently I tried to sign up for SIlver Line, where you spend time talking to the lonely elderly on the phone.

Good news there, been given the green light for an interview so hoping I pass muster.

As well as signing up to chat to the lonely elderly myself and the Mrs decided it might be interesting to volunteer for the Samaritans.

This amazing organisation staffed by volunteers is a place desperate people can turn to for a sympathetic and non judgemental ear. It saves many people from committing suicide. People can call, text, email or even visit.

We headed off for a two hour introductory meeting. Very interesting. We were told how many committed suicide, more than you would think... plus role plays and info on what kind of calls you'd expect and how you'd be expected to deal with them.

They're looking for people who are good listeners, cool under pressure and able to be non judgemental. While we were both keen after the meeting, the commitment required is quite high.

For example the initial training courses are over a lengthy period once a week. Given we are often away or busy with activities/football with Christopher etc we think for right now we would struggle with that commitment... but we are thinking seriously about it.

Even if we decide we can't quite fit in the courses etc now, I'm certain I'll be doing it not far off perhaps when we have less commitments with Christopher.

If you have some time on your hands and want to do something wonderful and worthwhile contact your local branch. Just saving one life would be an amazing thing.

We had a brilliant day at the last seminar - I can't believe how many of you stayed so late with me, but hope it was worth it.

Some of you have already booked the follow up on March 23rd which is very flattering and thanks for so many of your kind words that you emailed to me.

I'll just publish one from an attendee:

"Best things from the seminar: meeting you and Elizabeth, stock selection methods,
Shorting, CFDs and spread betting, using the other websites - such as ADVFN
DMA - FASCINATING to see the real-time price change when you'd put a "buy" in!

Number-crunching so many stocks, to get good practice at quickly assessing them.

To have kept my attention right up until the end means that: 1. You made it interesting right up until the end 2. I was still keen to get the most out of the day, and therefore still keen to keep trading, and improve my skills. so you did a good job, there.
You also put a massive amount into it, and I applaud your staying power - even spending time with the delegates during the breaks, which must make it a very long, and knackering day for you, so very well done!"
Don't forget you can spend a day with me at my next seminar on Monday
March 9th, and get into good trading practices by trading live with me.
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "March seminar interested".

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Here's some feedback from from "D"

'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.

The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.

This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

MARCH 9TH NEAR HEATHROW
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on March 9th

Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a decent early bookers discount available for those booking nice and early.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "March seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling

You have to hand it to Ed Balls who's rapidly taking over Gordon Brown as election comedy gold (who could ever forget the "Bigoted woman" moment?)

Yes, from the classic "Bill someone" moment to this week suggesting if you give a tenner to a hedgecutter you should demand a receipt.

Cartoonist Matt put it best when he drew Ed Balls with his hedgecutter who'd cut him a two fingered hedge!

Meanwhile Ed Millibore was quizzed by students. He was asked what he's done outside politics to make him worth considering running the country.

You could see his brain whizzing round trying to think of something. Nothing there, indeed he seemed to panick, saying the words "politics" and "Harvard University" a lot.

The answer should have been "I have never done anything outside politics. I have no idea about real life whatsoever."

Airlines tell us incidences of alcohol fuelled passengers causing disturbances and danger to flights are taking off.

I'd suggest we ban alchohol on all short haul flights - come on , no-one really NEEDS to drink on a short flight.

On long-haul I would suggest one drink and that's your lot. It would make flying a whole lot nicer and safer for all of us.

And let's ban all drink at the House of Commons. They're supposed to be running the country not getting pissed on cheap booze at every opportunity,

Well, Better Call Saul has been brilliant as expected. It's fantastic to be back in the Breaking Bad style world.

The first three episodes have been great fun and expect there will also be some hair-raising drama soon too. Interesting to see Jimmy (Saul) in the same situation as Walter was in Breaking Bad, battling with whether to be bad or not. Fun to see some old friends like the gangster and of course Mike.

It's on Netflix for now, I expect the DVD will be available later this year. If you're a Breaking Bad fan, just get Netflix and watch it! Can't wait for episode 4 !

Broadchurch seems to get more bonkers every week this time a lesbian thing out of totally nowhere and for no apparent reason. Add in the silly scenes in the sea and it's all a bit desperate. There had better be a very good pay off in the last episode!

Haven't tried Fortitude yet, the reviews weren't that great but may give it a try soon...

Dragons Den sneaked back on the air unexpectedly. Peter Jones gets smugger by the show, you can tell Piers and Duncan are on the way out. Meanwhile Piers' listed company has gone from a share price of 150 to 28p. He might well need help from a Dragon himself soon...

New drama The Casual Vacancy was.. well... a bit dodgy despite some decent actors. It was all a bit working class Vs the rich writing by numbers without much depth. Probably just enough in it to watch the next one but only just..

cH5'S Britain's Biggest Primary School was a sobering eye-opener.

A huge school in a deprived area, an amazing 30% of pupils can't speak English when they start there. Many sad stories including a kid whose mum had died and kids from Portugal and Bulgaria struggling with understanding any English at all.

The teachers appear to do a simply amazing job with these kids. We watched it with Christopher so he could learn and understand just how lucky he really is. And we are.

Those of you who want to spreadbet on sports and entertainment shows like the X Big Bro, here's a great sportsbet site. If you want a bet on the spreads on someone to win BB here's the place:

Good quick execution of bets and a great range of markets. Recommended!

Dave writes :
I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.

I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.

Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!
Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Considering all the Greek malarky and the fighting in Ukraine and all - you'd wonder why the markets are pushing highs.

They seem to be taking more notice of falling inflation and some decent figures around the place rather than worrying about anything else.

The Greek problem looks like it will just be pushed down the road a bit but it isn't going away and I suspect at some stage markets will take fright.

When markets are at highs it seems nothing will push them down but it is amazing how sentiment can change so we have to be careful. However they could keep pushing on up.

As usual I just try to follow it and not try and guess it. Many commentators have been predicting massive falls but they just haven't happened. For the moment I still have ftse shorts in the 6900 area but I will dump those if an obvious break up and breakout over all time highs in the 6930 area happen.

Trades

When a company gets bid for and then it is turned down, it's amazing how often said company falls to a bid again at some point in the future. I've had quite a few of these in particular Kentz where I made many thousands.

Iomart (IOM) where I made quite a bit when it was bid for before managing to sell before the bid fell through I think is one of those and been building a stake in it.

It's six months since the last bid for it and it would be little surprise to see another one come along - the last bid interest was around the 300p mark and I suspect the company could be bought for that. Or 270 will do! Hell, I'll take 250 !

So I have bought a few more IOM, and noted the price has been steadily rising since it hit around 170. Looks like others feel the same! Even if it isn't bid for it seems to be reasonably priced around 2 quid. I hope to hold now and be patient.

Talking of bids 888 was the subject of an approach by William Hill - I gratefully
sold taking a profit of £1,686. Reason was the mooted bid was at 220 with rumours the family holding the main bulk of shares wanted 300 so it was unlikely to happen.

However once William Hill pulled out I bought 888 again on weakness as there is little doubt I think that 888 will end up bid for with any number of companies in the frame and I suspect one of them will go for it and would have thought a compromise price of 250 could be reached so I reckon the shares are worth holding.

I think it likely 888 will have been taken out by someone by year end and now just a question of holding them for the rewards.

I bought a few more London Capital Group (LCG) - the shares have been stuck in the 28-30 area for a while, I sense there is a share overhang (a lot of shares that need to be cleared) - once that happens there could be a nice 20-30% rise all of a sudden. New management is in there and I noticed a lot of action (for example helpful phone calls from them). Given they have tons of cash they are worth at least 30p where spreadex tried to buy them a while back.

I picked up the shares I'd asked for in new issue John Laing (JLG) at the price of 195p which looks a reasonable price for a good growing company with a nice dividend and tempted to get a few more.

JLG looks like a nice long-term ISA tuckaway and a reasonable sleep at night type. It's currently available around the issue price.

I do like Sprue Aegis (SPRP) the health and safety company and I bought some more this week even though I've made quite a bit on them already. Averaging up has worked a lot for me.

And Renew (RNWH) has come back quite a bit from the 300 area to the 270 area and that was enough to tempt me into buying some more this very morning. A company with a great future - once it gets back to 300 any push above that and 320 looks a good target area.

Caretech just wouldn't shift higher than 230 so I took a small loss of £276 selling at 220. Took a profit on Utw of £778 as it climbed nicely higher after a decent statement. Since then it has come back a little and hoping to repeat the trick buying again in the low 200s if I can... finger on the buy button!

Around The Portfolio

Recent trade shoe zone's shares have been well heeled since buying moving nicely upwards. Dividend on the way too.

Al Noor has given me a nice 100 points but more to come I think

Pets At Home doing well and now up more than 30% on the initial buying, being a bit greedy and looking for 250. Those of you who came to the seminar saw the real giant spreadbets I have in it where I am up more than £13,000.

Carclo shares continue to motor. Amino too.
Entertainment One is starting to rise again after its recent acquisition - well underpriced at the moment, and should soon go back over 300.

Dignity is really flying high for me trying to push up through the 1900 area, nice and now doubled on my first entry point. Today it seems to have pushed through quite decisively. There is money in death you know.

Optimal Payments is rising very nicely indeed and looks about to head back to the 400 area.
Servelec yesterday issued a statement that it was awarded a position on a new procurement framework and that sees the share price head back up to near the 300 level again.

After selling part of pretty much everything last time, I'm pretty much holding on to the rest of everything else in the portfolio.

So all in all I have plenty of cash available as firepower should the markets tank at any point.
** TWO NEWER SPREADFIRMS I USE:
FOR SMALL COMPANIES:

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Xeros so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link.

TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC

If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

http://www.spreadco.com/nakedtrader/

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Capital Spreads offer

Capital Spreads offers a really excellent book on spreadbetting for those who open accounts through the link below. Spreads are very tight and every trade has to have a stop loss which is excellent discipline to have especially for beginners. Execution is really good I find and they also allow shorts on shares it is hard to get shorts on like say Carpetright or facebook.

Telecom Plus Offer

Want to quit the rat race? Try and start a new source of income so one day you can tell the boss to stuff it? You could do what I did to escape my grotty office job and become an independent distributor for the Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click earn with is then sign up now and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
