Lovely session online with some of you last week...
We spent a lot more time chatting than usual especially chatting trading psychology.
I can't believe I have picked up "summer" covid.
Well, actually I guess I can: I was on a packed train for a long time twice and a packed restaurant too.
So of course I am feeling sorry for myself. It's pretty unpleasant.
But worse is I was off to see Kylie in Hyde Park on Saturday and was really looking forwards to it.
I even had the sign ready: "Fancy a threesome?"
I know there was no chance but you know, if you don't ask, don't get.
Usual symptoms though this time just to add more fun it's added nasty headaches with flashing lights in the eyes.
Migraines basically. All you can do is lie down with the lights off till it passes.
Anyway enough, you don't want to read about some bloke you don't know's covid symptoms do you?
There is one upside: I may not have to do the bins this week.
We decided to dump nespresso pods and go back to a "proper" coffee machine and we love it!
A few reasons; Now at more than 50p a pod it's way overpriced.
But it is the taste more than anything.
After a visit to the Coffee Plant in Ladbroke Grove who provided us with our house coffee when we owned a cafe we remembered how good the taste of really nice ground coffee was.
We went to various stores to look at coffee machines and decided to get a really nice one.
I mean why not? I am a big coffee and tea fan after all.
After a few try outs we went for an amazing Sage machine which looks fabulous.
Once you play around with it and get the right grind
We've worked out even though the machine is pricy using ground coffee is more than half the price of nespresso pods so you get the money back soon enough.
Here's a link to the machine we bought:
It is a bit annoying as just after we bought it got marked down to £559 from the £625 we paid!
If you get it and need any tips for setting it all up or running it let us know.
You stick beans at the top, and it grinds it fresh for every coffee and what a smell!
One tip is to play around with the grind till you get it how you like it.
I would suggest don't buy the more expensive model with the touchscreen.
We tried it out but the touchscreen is actually a total pain!
Coffee and tea prices are about to go up a lot because of poor harvests for both.
Might be worth stocking up pronto on Yorkshire Tea and your fave coffee.
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.cpm and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Even better all the narcissists, I mean politicians soon go on holiday as well, perfect!
Congrats to England for getting to the final but it will be a tough game against Spain.
I think it was obvious to most fans Harry Kane needed removing earlier, and the more mobile Watkins to replace him.
It should be a great game. Spain's a very vibrant team so a decent plan is needed.
It IS possible we win but obviously better not count on it, and if we do I am afraid our King
will need to realise there will be drama!
I have a few betting accounts with a few 100 quid knocking about for the odd sports bet.
Sometimes I don't use them for ages.
I hadn't used two of them for a while, but put some losing bets on the Euros. Just small for fun.
Both sent me a "Look out for the signs of being a problem gambler" type email.
All concerned and what to do, etc.
It wasn't long before they showed their true colours. Soon the in box was filled with:
"Have a free £5/10/25 bet on us!"
"We give you a free accumulator!"
"We'll match any bet up to £50!"
The longer you don't take up one of these so called free bets the more you're offered.
So, the initial concerned mail is just a tick box thing.
The other mails are designed to get you hooked on gambling as much as possible.
Lucky for me I'm not but you can see how the firms try and hook addicted gamblers in.
Oh, and ps if they see you are a regular winner guess what? Your account will be closed!
The big question is should sports betting cos be allowed to provide free bets at all?
Meantime teens and early 20s are still getting suckered into forex and bitcon and only a matter of time till they lose it all and hopefully never gamble again,
If you're not into tennis or football it's a lean time on TV.
Not much worth bothering with on any of the streamers either,
Vera, who I talk to weekly for Help The Aged is very confused about the football screwing up episodes of Coronation Street.
I had to patiently explain that the schedules in the Radio Times are wrong because of the football and she has to look at the "alternative schedule".
(She doesn't have a computer to look these things up).
Anyway I got her to write it down - two episodes of the Street on Tuesday night while the
football was on Wednesday.
She thought she would have to flick to the football during ad breaks in the Street.
I really hope I got that right. Or else I am in trouble next week.
In the meantime, she's filled me in with all the action from the street... (sounds gripping).
The Night Caller **** Ch 5
Sometimes a low budget Ch5 drama without a load of time shifts can be quite relaxing.
While it's a bit grimy it's a story told from beginning to end (so far).
One suspects the late night DJ is going to come to a grim end.
Can I ask any TV writers/producers out there to please stop massive time shifts and any
dream sequences?
A hotel is advertising for a comedian during breakfast during the Edinburgh festival.
Can you imagine the horror of a routine that early from a naff comic?
"Hey you with the blue shirt leaving - is that a croissant stuffed down your trousers or are
you just pleased to see me?"
"I looked up the hotel hygiene rating - it's one star, enjoy your leek and rat sausage.."
Headline in the paper "Why women over 50 go off sex".
It's obvious, stop seeing men with too much hair, it is offputting.
Ladies, get yourself a bald bloke. First, we try harder. And also:
We baldly go where no-one has gone before.

Markets
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Naked Trader Radio Show:
https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/nt6
Includes lots of chat about shares, scams, how to be a dragon to make money. Plus I am joined by AI robot Eli.
Dishless Rishi must be kicking himself this morning after figures show the UK economy did much better than expected in May.
Looks like interest rates might come down too.
Why on earth did he go for the election given there was some good news coming down the pipeline?
Bonkers. Unless something horrible is coming down the pipeline...
Anyhow we have five years of settled government which the market likes.
Let's hope the economy continues to improve and we should all wish the new government all the best.
Just please don't have a go at us isa and pension savers!
Lots of lovely trade ideas and especially "trades to be" at the right price came up at Friday's seminar.
Pleasure to chat to you and with you all day, some amazing discussions about mindset/psychology.
There were quite a few trade ideas to be at the right price.
I deal with US trades on my sub email, but will mention a trade here as it's a bit less high risk.
I got some Polar Tech (PCT) which gives exposure to tech rises in the USA without the risk of exposure to just one company.
Indeed it holds 97 companies so a pretty good spread, mainly US tech.
The fund's top holding is Nvidia at 11.7pc followed by Microsoft, Alphabet, Apple and Meta.
The fund's value rises and falls on the net asset value of its holdings.
I think it is a nice way of holding exposure to tech without the massive risk of picking the companies yourself.
And if there is a massive tech crash in the future then it will be a nice one to short!
Funding Circle was also a popular share at the seminar.
A hard one to evaluate, it lends money to small and medium sized firms.
One of my best ever pupils Vikesh sums up the pros and cons:
Pros: Profit up 21pc, strong growth. CEO believes totally undervalued.
Net cash over half of market cap. Share buybacks and great outlook.
Cons: Risen a lot already, growth factored in? Possible momentum trap?
Probably expect volatility here! But could easily be 20pc upside too.
Another top up in Bloomsbury.
The Harry Potter publisher's share price is simply magic right now and seems to continue to be on the up.
There is plenty of hidden value in its library of offerings and no surprise if this one was snapped up.
I sold for a small loss and then bought back Begbies.
I did notice the shares heading down before a due statement with a poor level 2 so I sold up.
However the report was actually ok I thought so I bought them back yesterday.
Around a quid the shares of this insolvency specialist look about right.
It's a question now of whether it can hold around a quid and then start to head back up.
At this low price I do wonder whether this now makes it a target.
Possibly FRP which is double the size of Beg and does pretty much the same thing.
It pays a div of over 4pc.
Winner of share of the day at the seminar was Filtronic which got the most votes.
I have topped up with a few more adding to the ones I bought a lot lower.
It is high risk as its rating is now very high, it is a question of its SpaceX relationship pays off.
But with contracts with BAE and Qinetic among others you could argue the current high
rating is justified.
Results are on July 30th, be interesting to see market reaction.
Is it underrated or overrated? Place your bets, please.
Shares in car tester AB Dynamics seem to be on the rise.
Maybe something good to come?
Trouble with the shares is they always have been very highly rated.
There does seem to be decent growth in the business and you wonder as a longer-term
hold with electric and driverless cars to be tested there is more to come.
Downside of a highly rated share is any small disappointment and they get hammered.
I have gone in with a small starter amount for now till I build a bit of confidence in the valuation.
In the meantime looks like someone somewhere is snapping out shares here.
Elsewhere nice rises for Telecom Plus after its update, there is a big dividend on the way soon.
It's my income share and I've picked up more than £500,000 in dividends over the years, some of which helped me alongside IG, Barclays, II and Spreadco to buy the house I am currently sitting in.
ME Group reports next week, interesting as we discussed at the seminar that it is rising ahead of a statement.
Could be of course it falls on the day which happens a lot even on a good report. I'd buy more in that case.
Cohort also reports next week and its shares are rising ahead of that.
A decent report here could see a nice uplift for the overlooked defence outfit.
MSI went ex dividend for 16.5p today so a nice payment arriving in August.
Considering it didn't go down on the excellent statement or much on the ex today, all looks good news.
As we walk blindly into a cashless country, it was cash only at the supermarkets this morning!
All contactless and cards were down. Cash only signs everywhere.
Putin can't wait for cashless: he'll be hacking right in and bringing all payments down with no backup.
The new government should make it compulsory for all retailers to accept cash for up to £100.
When I am back outside after this horrid bout of covid, I'll be using cash as usual where I can.
Also remember with no cash governments can do whatever they like to you and you have no backup.
Above I mentioned at the seminar we ended up with a big discussion on investment psychology.
It really is all in your mind whether you make money or lose.
We realised that beginners and near beginners don't realise that a successful mindset is of the utmost importance.
Starting your journey with a bad, say, gambling mindset could mean massive loss of capital.
Investment coach Elizabeth did offer beginners at the seminar a half price one hour 1-1 on
investment mindset.
She's happy to extend that to others for the first five that book - but the offer is only open to beginners or near beginners.
Getting your psychology right near the beginning of your journey is so important and for
an hour's one to one with her will really help.
Interested? Mail to elizabethburns2@aol.com with "beginner 1-1 session half price interested"
Sessions are online but it can also be arranged to meet face to face at Elizabeth's office in
Hammersmith, West London.
I'm getting quite a few winners from my "Dash for Cash" screen on Sharepad.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
