Look forwards to spending election results day live with some of you at the follow up.

Should be an interesting day to follow the markets.

If you'd like to attend you must have attended a previous seminar and it's not for beginners.

Beginners and improvers are welcome to an early August (2nd) online seminar as I have been asked to do one for those who can't attend during termtime.

This is going to be the only one outside termtime so make the most of it.

You can of course attend from your hotel on the med if you like, all you need is wi fi!

We are vaguely wondering about an event in Dubai in November.

If you live there or holidaying there in November and are interested let us know.

Big congratulations to my sister Nica who picked up a CBE in the honours list last week.

This is an upgrade on her OBE she got a few years back.

I went with her to Buckingham Palace to watch her get the award.

The sadly now deceased Queen was wonderful.

Stood up straight for more than two hours handing outwards.

Nica's award was for services to theatre.

Not only does she own 6 West End theatres and works 24/7 on them she built and opened the only new theatre in London for decades.

That's Soho Place, a marvellous in the round theatre next to Tottenham Court Road tube.

Worth going there to experience the new theatre, all ultra modern with great loos..

If you fancy any of her shows go to nimaxtheatres.com.

Why not go for the hilarious theatre version of Fawlty Towers?

Maybe I should get an OBE for services to trying to stop people losing all their money on stock markets?

Or perhaps for services to Yorkshire Gold tea?

Reader Andy Ellis mailed me a few weeks back saying he'd read my book.

Before buying the book he had lost money and after buying it was in profit so that was great.

I noticed his website from his mail and saw he did walking tours of parts of London.

I contacted him and we signed up for a tour.

We went on a tour of hidden East London, meeting Andy outside the museum of London Docklands together with another very lovely couple.

I guess we were quite brave going considering the heavy showers throughout the day.

It was "hang onto your umbrella" weather.

Undaunted, Andy showed us around parts of the capital you'd never really go to.

I was a bit annoyed as everytime Elizabeth asked a question Andy said "Good question".

She got 5 "good questions" to my 2.

The other couple racked up 7 good questions between them. I guess I am no good at questions.

If you fancy an Andy tour, his website is puddinglanetours.co.uk.

(Please note I have no plans at this moment to take any commission from Andy)

(Andy can you contact me to talk about commission).

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.cpm and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

By the time of my next update Lord Sir Keir will be in charge.

Wonder how he will do? We can but hope for the best but probably not expect much.

I wonder if covid hadn't happened whether Boris J would have still been riding high and going for a second win?

Or, let's imagine if JC (Corbyn) had won in 2019?

There's little doubt Labour would be facing a total wipeout about now!

Funny thing fate, and timelines and how stuff out of the blue changes things.

No doubt the soon to be ex Government has been very unimpressive to say the least.

But I, and probably you, have absolutely no idea what the new Government will bring.

I guess we have to expect tax rises but we're taxed to the hilt already.

Presumably CGT will shoot up, making it much harder for share buyers and investors to make profits outside isas.

I do hope he doesn't attack savers like me who've worked hard to build a nest egg so we will never be a bother, or ask for any help from the state.

Yet another politician falling for a honeytrap.

Of course politician's egos are enormous so no surprise they think a woman way above their paygrade really wants to get down and dirty with them.

We're in the summer of "There's nothing on TV"!.

Which is good in a way, playing chess again for starters.

Hitman **** Netflix

A new movie which isn't a violent movie about a hit man as you might expect.

It's really a comedy about a fake hit man who lures would be customers into entrapment.

It's a lot of fun all the way through and a nice relaxing watch.

The Boys **** Amazon
Noticed a new series of this, so tried a bit of ep 1 of the first series and it looks quite fun.

The premise is superheroes going bad.

Indeed one of the writers did write for Breaking Bad.

Walter Presents: You Shall Not Lie **** Ch 4/All 4
Spanish drama, this one moves along at some pace.

A female teacher's sex session with a pupil is broadcast on Twitter causing all kind of ructions.

Lots of Spanish swear words to learn too.

And so to all my readers: vete a la mierda.

So far my two bets on the Euros, Portugal and France are going well and can even cash out
a profit on both.

I'll just leave the bets to run, gives it more of an interest.

England fans meanwhile spend most of their time whining and whingeing.

Let's face it most of us in England spend time whining.

The weather was too cold now it's too hot.

Let's see if England can raise its game in the knockout stages.

And if it's England Vs France or Portugal then if England win I can cheer and if Portugal
or France win, well there is the consolation of a few quid.

Come to think of it, not sure which one I'd be rooting for.

In the meantime, stop whining.

I have taken the lead from politicians and made a few bets.

I have placed a bet I will lose money on the stock market this week.

Also placed a bet on the exact time I have my next tea and toast break.

An online paper headline shocked me!

"Phil Foden escapes Euro criticism by going fisting".

What?

Well, ok I guess if that's what he's into good for him but a strange thing to admit.

A minute later it changed to

"By going fishing".

I see what happened: the "t" is close to the "h" on a keyboard.

Reminds me of the classic Curb episode "Beloved aunt".

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

We are entering the summer market lull.

Usually means less liquidity and smaller shares can get warren buffeted around especially if they are discussion board faves.

Still, you can find the odd bargain around in the summer.

The election result next week is a given, just depends on how big the win is for Lord Sir Keir.

The markets don't give too much of a stuff about it for now, it'll take ages for any policies to come through.

Still be interesting to see if there is any move on results day which I'll be looking at live at the follow up on July 5th.

The tax rises we all worry about will come about next year probably.

Almost a certainty for Capital Gains Tax to rise a lot.

Question for us investors is: are they going after pensions? Probably.

Isas? Let's hope not. Though there was that left wing think tank arguing for a cap of 100k.

I really enjoyed that seminar last week.

Thanks to all of you who attended. Brilliant questions and contributions.

I can't remember one where so many ideas showed themselves though of course there is luck involved over which shares to pick from those coming up on the screens.

I think there were quite a few "trades to be" at the right price.

Mind you, the one before came up with three crackers including Darktrace which got bid for.

Informa reported on the day of the seminar so we had a good look at that one.

I did mention that one thing that always throws investors is when shares go down on the day of the results even though results were really good.

The answer is said shares went up before the results, and investors/traders say yes we expected these results so let's take some profits!

Happens so many times. Said shares than start to go up again a few days later.

It's called "buy the rumour, sell the fact".

Anyhow, Informa shares stayed level on its good results which was a big plus!.

Not surprising though: this looks like a lovely tuckaway for any isa with great cashflows and improving margins.

It also sees big upside from an AI tech benefit.

Its debt has risen but that's mainly due to a big acquisition which should provide much increased profits.

Informa did bring up the song Informer by Snow which we played over lunch.

Who could forget the classic lyric "When they looked down me pants, look up me bottom".

Which reminds me I have a prostate check next week.

I've been eyeing up chemicals outfit Elementis now its debt has come down.

I've avoided it for a long time because of that but debt is now within my parameters.

While unlikely to blow the bloody doors off** one of its biggest shareholders is calling for a big review.

(** copyright Michael Caine)

It wants to get rid of its poor talc business, dump the chairman and bring value out for shareholders.

He's right: there is value there and change is needed.

If that change is the right one, could get a re-rating. But it also might not so risky.

So a stop just below the support at 140p is important and I'm out should things not happen.

It's also maybe possible as a big target as similar cos even with debt have been bought up.

At the seminar we noticed it was engineering and construction companies that kept coming up on the screens.

Said companies are mainly going up at the mo, looks like the market is prepared to value them higher.

We looked at Hill and Smith, Billington, Costain and Severfield.

They all look very good value despite recent rises for most.

I already hold Costain and in a lovely profit from 61p but topped up, it won a good contract this week.

Billington, structural steel, looked good value, under 10xpe, dividend of 4PC, and some cash.

At £65m market cap it's right at the bottom of where I'd buy because of liquidity.

However that seems fine and it seems easy to buy and sell a lot of shares.

The spread is annoying being market maker only but dealing inside is easy.

Anyhow, I bought a small amount as a kick off, and may buy more if it starts to rise.

An engineer at the seminar who had a lot of knowledge of the sector like Billington and Hill and Smith and speculated Billington would make a nice fit for Hils which could easily bid for it.

I do have a lot of MS International but couldn't quite help topping up on fantastic results yesterday.

Its defence business is going great guns. The others are a bit "meh" and probably should be sold off.

With directors past their prime there is a hint of retirement in the air and one wonders if they might take an offer for the whole company sooner than later.

After all four of them own more than half the company and most are in their late 70s.

I think a takeover here would have at least a 50% plus upside.

Nice dividend while waiting which gets paid out quite soon.

And of course there could well be new orders this year which could push the share price up more.

I bought more even though I have a lot as liquidity now is enormous and you can easily deal in £150,000 or more.

MSI goes ex dividend for 16.5p on Jul 11th.

A couple of riskier smaller ones came up which look interesting for the small high risk
part of my sipp, that's on the email today for subscribers.

Raised stops kicked out a couple of recent top ups - N15 for a loss of £343 and Yu for £1,175 profit (still hold all the earlier trades on both which are in very good profits).

Yu has succumbed to some profit taking after ex div so will prob buy those back.

The spreadbets have been going well.

Long Watches of Switzerland spread bet looking good after a well received statement today.

The Intercontinental long also fares well.

The Bellway and Aston Martin shorts are producing very nice profits.

Elsewhere Alpha Group Int has entered the FTSE 250 with a nice growing share price.

The Games Workshop trade worked out well, tempted to take profits but still looks in an uptrend for now.

Fab results from Telecom Plus (which I can't sell anyway as no idea where the certificate is!).

Dividend is up again and remains a long-term hold.

I am wondering for the first time whether this could become a bid target, never thought it much before.

But head cheese holds a lot of shares and you'd wonder approaching retirement age whether he might like to be bought up.

Filtronic rises nicely and the market liked Wilmington's disposal today.

I'm getting quite a few winners from my "Dash for Cash" screen on Sharepad.

To access that get a free trial there on this link, you can pay monthly.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

Spreadbetting

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Well, ok I guess if that's what he's into good for him but a strange thing to admit.

A minute later it changed to

"By going fishing".

I see what happened: the "t" is close to the "h" on a keyboard.

Reminds me of the classic Curb episode "Beloved aunt".

Still be interesting to see if there is any move on results day which I'll be looking at live at the follow up
on July 5th.

I can't remember one where so many ideas showed themselves though of course there is luck
involved over which shares to pick from those coming up on the screens.

An engineer at the seminar who had a lot of knowledge of the sector like Billington and Hill and Smith and
speculated Billington would make a nice fit for Hils which could easily bid for it.

I do have a lot of MS International but couldn't quite help topping up on fantastic results yesterday.

Its defence business is going great guns. The others are a bit "meh" and probably should be sold off.

With directors past their prime there is a hint of retirement in the air and one wonders if they might
take an offer for the whole company sooner than later.

After all four of them own more than half the company and most are in their late 70s.

I think a takeover here would have at least a 50% plus upside.

Nice dividend while waiting which gets paid out quite soon.

And of course there could well be new orders this year which could push the share price up more.

I bought more even though I have a lot as liquidity now is enormous and you can easily deal
in £150,000 or more.

MSI goes ex dividend for 16.5p on Jul 11th.

A couple of riskier smaller ones came up which look interesting for the small high risk
part of my sipp, that's on the email today for subscribers.

Raised stops kicked out a couple of recent top ups - N15 for a loss of £343 and Yu for £1,175 profit (still hold
all the earlier trades on both which are in very good profits).

But head cheese holds a lot of shares and you'd wonder approaching retirement age whether he
might like to be bought up.

Filtronic rises nicely and the market liked Wilmington's disposal today.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Buy and read! Amazon link: https://amzn.to/46v2hcg

Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
