Next update will be June 9th as we'll be in Spain during half-term week, apologies.
Thanks to all of you who came to the seminar last week, a pleasure to host such a lovely bunch. We even found some amazing trades towards the end, of which three have already worked out very nicely.
Certainly makes it worth my while doing them. Thanks for the feedback, I will just print one later as otherwise I will seem like a right smug self-satisfied... what do you mean seem? I know some of you are using the tricks I taught you to good effect already, take your time and remember the bits on how to make money from down markets.
Andy wrote to me: Thanks for yesterday, transformative, exceptional, encouraging. Your book is great but to watch you in live action trading made things seem so much easier. I was very apprehensive before booking and it took along time for me to take the plunge.
I like value for my money and you certainly delivered. So if others are deliberating I say "get on and do it". It's now down to me to put your teaching into good use."
Thanks Andy and thank you all - it was a busy day but I really enjoyed it and hope to get emails from some of you later this year hoping to hear you are going well. All will probably be easier once the irritating Euro vote has been done.
Oh blimey! You may remember 6 months ago I had a gastroscopy (they stick a camera down into your tummy) as I had bad tummy troubles - all they found was a very small polyp and I got the all clear.
But today I got called by the surgeon who tells me they looked at my case again and it gives me an increased risk of stomach cancer. (What a laugh that call was!)
He says it is borderline but wants to do it again to check it hasn't got any bigger or changed. Also suggests a week of drugs to make sure I am clear of something else called H.Pylori.
I don't have any symptoms at the mo but as he says stomach cancer is a quick killer but if you catch it early it is treatable and for the grand it is going to cost me, I'm going to have it done again.
While not exactly pleasant, you get sedated and it wasn't too bad. It seems sensible for me to get it done again. Maybe I should consider myself lucky I can afford to pay for things like this.
As a risk reward trade, there seems no reason not to do it. I was feeling quite cheerful till I got the call this morning as it's only human nature now I am worried again. I had a very good friend who died of cancer.
He complained he wasn't feeling well for ages and never did anything about it. He died six months after being diagnosed. Health really is everything.
All those little worries about everything else we all have goes right out of the window. Of course being a hypochondriac I'm now thinking, OMG I had to take a rennie last week, and every tummy rumble is going to have me sweating. I'm going to get this done again fast and book a date to get it done. I will be very relieved if nothing new is found but my guess is I'll have to get this checked every year.
After that cheerless start some good news: the triathlon my son and his friends did was a great success - thanks to all of you who contributed! We raised £1,000 for a brilliant charity. Thanks so much to all of you who contributed. You know who you are and we are very grateful to all of you.
It was a lovely day out at the amazing Bradfield College. The boys had to swim, cycle and run, it was all timed and they competed against around 80 other teams from various schools in their age group.
The great news is they did brilliantly coming fifth! That's pretty good result against so may others.
Three days before the event I had the sudden thought: Christopher is fit from his football and he cycles a lot but... swimming!!! He hadn't done it for ages.
We rushed down to the nearest swimming pool. Phew. He could swim the length required ok!
It was a lovely spring day, maybe a bit warm for running. We got to Bradfield on time. The sheer organisation of so many boys by the charity was incredible. So well organised. Every event went to time.
The boys did so well and also had a great time and were thrilled to raise so much money from their endeavours.
And what a place Bradfield is. Beautiful, anyone who gets to go there is extremely lucky indeed.. we can only hope !
My new book on market psychology is done!
Goodness, books always take longer to write, get right, mistakes sorted. Although there is a always one that gets through which means for years later emails from people who spotted it!
I'm really pleased with it, it's based a lot on the many stories I've had from those that have screwed up and people I've met at seminars. More on it in a couple of months when it should be ready to order.
We're looking forwards to most of half-term in Spain having a nice relax though Christopher does have a lot of work to do as well, hopefully we can have a nice work/play balance.
There's nothing nicer than a long walk up the beach in the morning sunshine.
The new kitten.. well, we have all fallen in love with her, she is just amazing.
Takes part in all household activities, and is brilliant at football.
And she felled the very first fly she ever encountered - caught and eaten in 30 seconds, pretty good effort.
But what is really bizarre is she is the first cat I have ever had who likes vegetables!
Really odd. Peas? Yum. Endame? Terrific. Carrots? More please! She also loves shepherd's pie, tortilla, spag bol, roast chicken, roast pots, brocolli. Oh and cabbage. And she doesn't even fart after that lot.
She may as well just have whatever we have. It's less smelly than cat food for sure.
Best of all for her is peas as she can play football with each pea before being dispatched into her little gob.
Playing football, eating veg.... could we get her onto Britain's Got Talent?
Seminar news: Next Monday July 11th
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July seminar interested" in the subject line.
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2! If you've been to a seminar before there is a follow up with live trading on May 23rd, mail me if interested in that.
Here's some feedback from from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on July 11th
Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a substantial discount on offer for first ten to book. Mail me for details.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Had enough of annoying politicians spout their stuff which in the main seems to be crazy fear?
if you're an investor/share buyer than you have to vote in. Otherwise watch your shares get caned on the 24th. Sure, I know it's selfish.
But even if I wasn't selfish, the out group haven't come up with anything meaningful for me to vote to change things.
Often in life the devil you know it better than the one you don't. Like coming across a car jam, you take a different route only to end up in worse congestion.
There isn't one major big reason that I can see to come out.
I see Duncan Bannatyne is bringing his gyms to the stock market. The gym market is totally saturated and I wonder whether he is trying to float is asap to get some money out.
There is quite a mention of some of the money being used to "pay off debts".
I just don't see it at all. I'm out!
After a bit of a slow start to the new Game of Thrones series it really got going!
The last scene was simply sensational as our would be queen wiped the smiles off the faces of her opponents.
Still, very handy to be able to live through fire and touching hot things.
Psycho Bolton continues to be a brilliant baddie. I suspect it will be a while before he gets killed off.
And looks like at last Brienne has a love interest in towering Tormund.
Though please, no sex scenes with those two. The mind boggles - talk about thrashing about.
Tyrion's plot starts to warm up and Littlefinger makes a welcome return.
Meanwhile Cercei is back to her best planning all kinds of nasty ways to make the high sparrow squauk.
Not much else to watch - Britain's Got Talent is a bit "meh" this year and was amazed a dance troupe got the golden buzzer just because they were dressed in space costumes. I don't know about you but had it with dance troupes and singers.
I want a performing cat. Hang on, my cat is really good at football...
One I shouldn't watch this really is Four In A Bed. It's my guilty pleasure.
Watching the B and Bers pretending to be nice to each other but desperately hoping to find a pube in the loo or dust on top of a cabinet is hilarious.
Some even take out all the bedstuff and examine the mattress in the hope of finding something and it wouldn't surprise me if one or two "nasties" were planted.
Then trying to win the game by finding the slightest thing to underpay. Sums up middle England.
Why do they keep trying to resurrect old stuff? Carry on movies? No!!! They were of their time. You can imagine what the new one will be like, horrible!!
Don't get me started on the remake of Dad's Army. No more!
One in ten now look at their phones during sex!
If I had one, I certainly wouldn't. After all, surely everyone can stay off looking at their phone for three minutes a month?

I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.
I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.
Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!
Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

To accept this great deal just e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Level 2 offer" in the subject line and I will tell you how to get it.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

New offer: £50 or £100 off Stockopaedia and free trial
I rarely do offers - Forex companies in particular offer me eyewatering sums. I turn all this down as I would never put out an offer for a company where I think my reader will 95% likely lose, or be taken for a ride.
Having had lots of mails from people using Stockopaedia and using it myself I am 100% confident.

Probably markets will continue to be nervous ahead of the Euro vote.
Though I still tend to think remain will win by some way judged from the odds the bookies are offering.
I really don't think they would be offering 11/4 in a two horse race unless they were close to 100% certain they were right. Still, bookies can get these things wrong, just not very often.
I suspect markets will have a big relief rally on the 24th - just a question of how brave you are about buying before.
Foolishly or not I'm carrying on as I would normally. Today the markets are worried about an interest rate rise in the states.
As usual a trade or two came up at the seminar.
First bought was Waterman (WTM). An building consultancy group it's looked undervalued for a while (probably Euro fears).
Its recent interim statement it says it expects to make £3.3m profit and it has increased its net cash so it isn't going bust anytime soon. If it can kick on after that the shares could also kick on up to the 120-130p area.
However first it needs to break the 100p area and it would be a bullish sign if it could do it.
I've made money from Alliance Pharma (APH) before and I'm looking to repeat a previous trade from the low to mid 40s up to the low to mid 50s for 25%.
There is tons of support at the 42p ish area which made it an easy buy.
Profits are rising nicely boosted by its buy of Sinclair Pharma and indeed I do wonder whether APH might end up as a bid target itself - there are quite a few deals going on in this sector.
Whichever way I look at it it seems like a good chance of a winning trade and if it falls below the 40p I'd be out as that might signal problems I hadn't thought of.
More new issues have tumbled onto the market, I bought three of them, Midwich (MIDW) , Hotel Chocolat (HOTC) and Motorpoint (MOTR)
Of the three will deal with them in order of preference!
Midwich (MIDW) I like the best.
It's a bit of an under the radar one, kind of boring company I like that simply produces better profits every year and looking on this as a longer-term.
It has a decent market as a leading specialist AV and document solutions distributor with big clients like Samsung, LG and NEC.
It operates right across the world with nearly 500 employees. Valuation on this looks very reasonable - some issues are priced very highly but this looks very fair and happy to be in.
Now Motorpoint (MOTR) - an easy one as it's a car dealer. Surprisingly this is quite a bubbly sector of the market at the mo.
I was expecting it to be overvalued when it launched but it wasn't so I have bought in.
It's the UK's biggest independent motor trader with a different business model to the others.
Amazingly it boasts net cash, and profits have grown strongly over the last three years standing at 17m for this year end. If it can carry this on the shaers should gradually rise and it's going to pay a nice dividend too.
And as a main market listing it will make the FTSE indices and should get bought up by fund managers. Looks like a fab long-termer.
Finally Hotel Chocolat (HOTC) - well I love chocolate but not really the very posh chocs this company sells.
Valuation isn't cheap but it is going to use money raised to push on with more cafes. So there is potential here possibly for a buy and hold in an ISA.
However if it starts to leap higher I would probably take profits sooner than later. Now where's my afternoon twix?
Going back to motor retailers Lookers (LOOK) now looks very undervalued and I've bought some. A statement this week looked pretty bullish with a 23% uplift on prices.
Decent dividend too and a very good start to the year makes this one look like the brakes have been too firmly applied to the share price and it should really start motoring back up to the 170 area from the 140s.
I've taken profits on the last
of my holding in Energy Assets, it doesn't look like a rival bidder is coming on the scene so banked another profit of £2,898
So overall it's been a lovely one with total profits of £9,049.
Goodbye, my love!
Elsewhere Avon Rubber has been a great performer rising strongly since I bought and I'm looking for a rise up to a tenner.
Character Group produced a nice statement and shares have been rising now quite nicely, hopefully a rating up to 600
coming.
Cerillion has bounced up very well indeed and proving an excellent trade with profits quite quickly up and over £8,000.
Telecom Plus is trying to get over the tenner mark if it does it would be a bullish sign ahead of results in late June.
GB Group is trying for 300! Trades are now up £32,000 but personally I've made more than £100,000 on these. Some lovely rises from some recent buys. YU Group has seen a nice lift. So too CMC, Vectura and Interquest.
Paysafe is trying to come back after a poor run. There should be a statement next week which could help to push it up, probably Euro wobbles have been effecting it.
Iomart is bubbling along nicely trying to break 265. Nearly there! Powr has been a poor performer and the recent trade close to being closed for a loss though I would hold on to the long-term winning one. I'd like to hold on if I could.

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Xeros so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link.

If you like to trade the FTSE, Dow, or currencies then Spreado has an outstanding tight 0.8 spread - that is incredibly tight. The platform is very good and robust and have used it to great satisfaction and profits.
You can sign up at this link which includes a decent market commentary:

I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Telecom Plus Offer
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/237058/opportunity you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click earn with is then sign up now and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
