Speedos on fire

I've been outed.
I suppose it had to happen. Sometimes when you've been keeping a secret for so long it's actually good to tell the truth.
A feeling of release.
I suppose I've been doing it for years. Never in front of friends or on holiday though to be fair to me.
It happened at dinner at Mozimans on Saturday night when we were having dinner with Telecom Plus directors. I don't know how the subject came up but I admitted that yes..
Yes. I wear Speedos.
In my defence I really only wear them when I'm on my own at our little swimming pool here. And honestly they are easier to swim in than baggy shorts.
However the wife of Tep's chief did point out to me: "Your son will be scarred for life if you wear those in front of him."
I think she might be right. "Burn them," she said. "As soon as you get home."
Actually I still have them and I have decided to keep wearing them even in front of Christopher. However in public I will wear baggy things.
Anyway we had a fabulous weekend all paid for us and other distributors by Telecom Plus - a special treat for all of us with 500 plus customers which we get once a year. I've been a distributor for them since they started 11 years ago and the residual income helped me decide to quit my last job in 2001. I also got a massive pile of shares at 18p when it first floated which look nice now at 300!
It all started off at the restaurant owned by the Chief Exec and then back to a wonderful hotel for the first lie-in we can remember, well, since Christopher was born.
Then off for some shopping.
Harrods is doing something right - it was packed both days -- we went to the toy department to get some things for Christopher but it was so packed we gave up.
But Mrs NT had her eyes firmly fixed on a designer handbag which she got for £450 instead of £500 as Harrods was doing a 10% off weekend.
Apparently it is THE bag in vogue right now. Of course us blokes don't quite get the handbags thing do we?
In the afternoon we saw the musical Oliver. Which wasn't bad. Not as good as something like Billy Elliot perhaps, but pleasant enough. Lots of big numbers and of course it is a great story. I guess it missed Rowan Atkinson a bit.
This one even had subtitles which is quite handy when you don't understand what someone just said. No idea how they control all the children on stage but they manage it very well.
Then off for an excellent meal at Mozimans private dining room as well as the directors of the company there were some top performing distributors.
Some do it full time and are really committed - they even have Telecom Plus minis and go to anything from a boot sale to an exhibition. It pays off for them bigtime in residual income.
Some do it part-time. One thing they all have is motivation to do well - to achieve a decent and ongoing income and I say considering how many layabouts this country has: good for them! If you fancy a go at it let me know. But it isn't for everyone: you need to be pretty outgoing and adventurous.
Christopher seemed to enjoy his weekend with Grandma and Grandad and I know one of the reasons why: it's a hell of a lot easier to get a sweet or an ice cream off them then off his mum and dad!
But he was glad to have us back and he said he had a great time.
Then Sunday night Mrs NT's sister arrived from New York with her new boyfriend and we all had a great evening and I even got a few compliments as I did the roast chicken dinner. Bit of luck there.
Nov 27th seminar is very close to a sell out and I expect it to be sold out in the next couple of days. If you want to come and leave it any longer you are likely to be disappointed!
If you missed my recent seminar there is one more left this year on Nov 27th at Heathrow.
However it very close to sell out.. so if you want to come do not leave it too late. My guess is it will be sold out by the weekend.

If interested in details mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "November seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you details.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

The number of emails to me is nearly reaching saturation point and I'm struggling! I'm getting 100s which is lovely in a way but killing me in another.
The main problem is the length of some of them, indeed some run to the length of novels, so, please, help save my eyes and please keep mails to under 150 words.. you can do it! It's close to the stage where I am going to have to say I will answer all mails but those over 200 words will get deleted. Keep them short and sweet, please!!
Also, it's possible the answer you seek from me is already in FAQ's. And do remember I can't discuss individual shares with you as it would be classified as investment advice which I'm not authorised to give.

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 2 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:
http://promo.tradefair.com/nakedtrader100/
Still with BT for your phone line? Why? Move over to Utilities Discount Warehouse under me and pay just £8.99 for your line rental, and deal with a nice company. I get commission and in return you get my e-mail - this site into your mailbox at every update!
You could also add energy, guaranteed cheaper than the top 6 suppliers and get the lot on one bill every month. Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com if you fancy it. Easy to do!
MF Global offers a free £2 bet on the FTSE to all readers.
I use MF Global myself for spreadbets on the smaller companies as they have more online than anyone else and offer spreads on pretty much everything.
To take up the offer either click the MF banner you should find somewhere on this page, or cut and paste this link into your browser and you can sign up online:
http://tinyurl.com/c524ku
Terms and conditions obviously apply, check them on that link.. I think those are good offers.
Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £138.06 inc vat via me instead of £167.47.
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
The money - real money - is already coming on from my own internet shopping site which is at www.ei42.com/nakedtrader.
In fact I've already made £1,000 - that's in a very short time and as this grows I think there could be a very good income there.
YOU can make money out of this too - by simply doing your online shopping as normal but via your site (it costs nothing) and then tell friends to open their shopping site using the link from yours - you then get commission on their buys!
Have a look at this link:
http://www.ei42.com/Nakedtrader/
So for free you can sign up and get this site for yourself.
Everytime you buy anything yourself on your site you get commission.. So if you normally shop online anyway it's a no brainer: just use your own site instead of going direct and get some commission every time you shop.
Then you just get some friends to sign up and get their own site too - when they do online shopping using their mall, you get commission too. Simple as that.
It's all explained on the site top right.. just click "Make money with your own shop find out more" and it's all explained. Or click here
http://www.ei42.com/?10850514
So you just shop away as normal - but now you earn commission - and there's also decent money off coupons too on top of that!
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

I've had heaps and heaps of praise from many of you regarding The Financial Spreadbetting book.
The book really seems to have helped a lot of you understand spreadbetting a lot more than you did. You say it's really helped you with ideas too. The writer deserves commendation. With the ability to go short so important in these volatile markets, it's a must read. To order click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/23307.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. To order The Investors Toolbox by Peter Temple (new edition) click the following link for delivery in 24 hours... http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

****NOVEMBER 27TH SEMINAR BOOKING NOW OPEN**(OCTOBER SEMINAR NOW SOLD OUT)
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is now open for the next Naked Trader seminar on Friday November 27th
Price is £495 plus 15% vat.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. And most importantly it covers choc bars and fruit gums too.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "November seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

£100 Tradefair offer

I've started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 2 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply)

Naked Rambling

So, the letter that Gordon Brown sent to the mum of a killed Afghanistan soldier. He mispelled the name and various other stinker mistakes throughout the scrawled letter. Did I just mis-spell misspell? Probably but I'm not the PM so nurrr!
We all make mistakes but the one mistake to make is not with someone's name. We know Brown has problem eyesight and terrible handwriting but I'd be ashamed to have sent that off as a letter and would have written it again out of respect.
He ended up making things worse and you do wonder if he can't be bothered to check this how much else he hadn't checked or couldn't be bothered with during his reign.
Of course he didn't do it on purpose. But it looked like a "task" he had to do. The worst thing is beginning the letter where he writes Jamio and then crosses out the o and writes an e instead of chucking away the letter and starting again.
As for the phone call he made to the mother of the dead soldier. How embarrassing. He talked like a poor politician. She gave him a right roasting which he really deserved.
Then he goes on TV claiming he's "shy". Come on, no-one who is "shy" becomes a Prime Minister.
Just when we thought John Major the worst PM ever, Gordon Brown really has outdone him comprehensively to win the title easily. Just six months to go before he gets booted out.
One of the worst stories I've read in a while is a war hero aged 94 who is going to send back his medals to Gordon Brown as he was refused his winter fuel allowance because he was one day late claiming.
What sort of rotten country are we turning into when it's obvious he should just have been given the allowance. Anyone can come here and claim benefits it seems. But if you fought for this country forget it. Something really is badly wrong.
A story to fill all parents with dread.
"A mother fears she has been 'criminalised' for giving her children a ticking-off in a supermarket.
She was secretly followed home by an off-duty policeman who overheard her threatening to smack them unless they behaved.

Six weeks later two officers came to her home and questioned her about disciplining the youngsters, a boy of 11 and a four-year-old girl. To her horror she then received a letter from the local council saying her 'chastisement' of the children had been 'put on record' for at least the next 14 years."
Here we go again. This is the kind of thing that is going on - how many of us parents have to threaten our kids sometimes? If you are a parent you know what I mean.
Yet more police time wasted on stupidity instead of tackling the real criminals. And it's because parents don't discipline children anymore that there is so much youth crime.
The Restaurant was cringe inducing again - though perhaps to be fair to the contestants being told to manage a branch of Yo Sushi with a few hours' training was a bit unfair and was obviously done to make up some drama.
Which to be fair to the programme makers.. it did! Those two blonde guys are getting on my nerves - "best friends" - they obviously want to end up in bed together and I wish they would - I just can't take the sexual tension anymore!
It's great that there are two good comedies on at last - The Thick of It and Curb. Both masterful.
Though I did wonder. I realised the only comedies I really like begin with the continuity announcer:
"This programme contains strong language from the start and throughout...."
All I can tell you is if you don't like what I like you can ** ****

If you press "Sports" there is a preview of the weekend's sports betting action and a look at the weekend games.
Get to grips with sports spread betting by opening an account with Sporting Index. . Click the link below to find out more.
http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Steve writes:

Read your website and smiled. My son is now 22 but how your stories brought back memories! Just my advice but don't buy hamsters, gerbils or any other caged creature. I did when my son, Jim, was Christopher's age.

We had to have not one but two females (apparently gerbils get lonely according to the lady in the pet shop!) She assured me, indeed promised they would only live 18 month at the most. Oh yeah! Nearly 5 years later I would come downstairs every morning to find them in the peak of health - bloody gerbils - God, how I wished they would pop their clogs! They did eventually, long after Jim had lost interest in them!

Thanks Steve will take your advice on this and avoid anything small and furry!
Richard writes:
The people of this country need to be mobilised and motivated to fight back against what's happening in the UK by gradual excuse after excuse for building the Orwellian database, and its eventual sinister misuse by immature officials who are becoming the police and creating a climate of fear and suspicion and over criminalisation of ordinary people who just want to be left alone.
In recent years the excuse was anti terror, they don't bother with that one now - it's spies in the dustbin and hysteria over children instead.
What alarms me even more than what this government is doing is that the Opposition should be leading the rebellion but is not doing so. it's time for the people to rise!

Thanks Richard - I agree let's rise up. Oh hang on, let's not, the X-Factor is starting!
Julian writes:

Just a quick comment on the FX and index playing - couldn't agree more. My worst losses ( which are now a year or so ago and never to be repeated!) were in daytrading them . They move very quickly , especially the FX since i suspect that the nearly all the players have their trades automated and stops can get tripped quickly . If you go on Youtube you can see demos of people chasing daily breakouts on the FX . I tried this and 80 % of the time it doesn't work and when it does it goes a little way then comes back!! I also tried maybe 5 different strategies in a short time frame and they all just cost me money !
I do think they can be played successfully but only over a much longer time frame.
Hi Julian - agreed!

Julia writes:

Thanks so much for a wonderful seminar on Friday, everything about it was brilliant. I can now see why some people keep coming back again. Have spent this morning raving about you and it, so may well end up sending a load more people your way ..
Thanks Julia.. erm but too many please!

Markets

Unbelievably almost the dips continue to get bought. The cash on the sidelines seems to have got impatient and figures coming out look ok. Many have missed the boat which is why I think when the markets take a tumble they come back up pretty fast.
Micro Focus (MCRO) was high on the shortlist at the last seminar and ended up one of the few I didn't eventually buy - and now I wish I had!
An absolutely superb statement this morning and despite the shares opening up a massive 40 pts up I still bought in at the much higher price because it still looks lovely and cheap with even more upside potential - probably at least another 100p. The business software company seems to have hit the jackpot with its buying spree which is going to lift profits by a long way - the management here looks to be outstanding.
I bought 1,000 shares at 384 - target 530 stop 360. And got some on the spreads too.
It's funny - most investors just can't bring themselves to a buy a share that already went up a lot before trading opened. I think that's a mistake - they commonly say "Oh I missed the rise" when in fact the share can still have tons of upside. Then they end up buying something that's gone down a lot and wonder why they lose money! Micro continues to rise today - deservedly.
Talking of that issue I also bought another after it had risen a lot - this one is my first step back into construction for a long time - Kier Group - (KIE) where I got 500 at 1040 after a decent enough report. Sadly the day before I could have for them for 970! Still, there looks value here now and I like the strong cash generation. Target 1200 stop 970. Problem with this one will be volatility so some caution needed.
Finally a share I have traded a lot and made a lot out of over a couple of years is Afren (AFR) - those of you who take the email know all about this one! But it is moving to the main market next month and is now a big company so switching coverage on this to the website too. I've traded this all the way from 20.
I picked up £50 at 84.5 on the spreads as it dipped after an announcement of a fund raising. This looks a very strong (but some risk) oiler and big potential. Target 150 stop 70.
Elsewhere great news from Dialight where profits are now looking excellent. I bought because I thought we might start to get a string of contract won announcements. Another contract won for its LED offering from a second US tower operator. A statement is due out tomorrow - wouldn't expect fireworks from the figures, but the outlook part of the statement will be of more interest. There's often profit-taking on announcements which might give a new buying op if there is weakness.
Elsewhere Centamin comes back a little today - looks like some profit taking but I'm happy to stick with it. Volatile CSR dances around the entry price. Still hoping for a bid at Nestor Heathcare.
Doubler Chime moves well this week and looks to have taken out 200 strongly now and 250 looks a real possibility. Recent buy Hunting in a reasonable profit but doesn't look like it wants to pass the dizzy heights of 550.
What a star performer Microgen is proving and I've now doubled from my first buy with excellent profits of over £5,000. I still think there is more to come from this well managed outfit. It's going up every day and with only market makers in the stock there are no day traders/shorters to screw with the price.
Int Tel Sys is climbing again as is long-termer. Heritage has been weak but on the rise again.
Some developments at Dragon: a minority shareholder has rejected the bid price - looks like this one will run for a bit - but if others reject it the price will probably slip back to the early 400s for a while. As I bought at 129 and sitting on £7,000 plus profits I'm really not bothered by any of it as there isn't much downside and still potential for either the bid at 455 or for more - so for me, it's a nice sit, hold and wait developments. I don't fancy trading it - why bother when I can just sit and relax because value will out eventually one way or the other.
Trebler Alterian is on the rise yet again - can it conquer 200, what a great share! Profits of more than £8,000. Dimension Data rises nicely too. Only yellow card is with Huntsworth for now.
At the moment sticking with the winners is paying off very well and there are huge profits in so many stocks.
I don't know how long these great conditions can last but l do hope it lasts for a bit longer!

A pullback at these levels would be no surprise but again, no surprise to see any sharp falls bought up within a couple of days.

I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Link is here: -
http://www.igindex.co.uk/?QPID=1078&QPPID=1
that also includes a pretty decent educational programme. As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

£100 Tradefair offer

I've also started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 2 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply).

Want to quit the rat race? Try and start a new source of income so one day you can tell the boss to stuff it? You could do what I did to escape my grotty office job and become an independent distributor for the Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.telecomplus.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me!

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Weds and Fri afternoons under "Markets" section.. afraid I can't do live trades as that would turn me into a tipster and I'd have to be regulated!
