Thanks again for the nice comments on the radio show - I was going to do another live next week but decided not to because of the war situation, I don't think it would quite work.

It's been a very worrying time for us over the last few days with our son who works in Dubai.
He's literally just sent us a recording of three loud bangs near where he lives.
And they have just had a message from the Government:
"Seek immediate shelter in the closest building due to a missile threat. Steer away from windows and doors."
Thanks to all of you who mailed in expressing concern for him..
It is really kind of you to think of us, many of you know us well from seminars and retreats and you regulars feel like extended family.
I've tried to answer you all and if I didn't get to you for some reason, my thanks.
Thanks for a lovely message from Ian who's been to many hotel seminars and we know quite well.
He says he is stuck in Dubai at the moment, he was on holiday and can't currently leave.
If your son needs anything, get in touch. Thanks so much Ian we have passed your message to him.
Hi to reader Abel who is stuck in the UAE, he said:
"Saturday night was very scary with the mobile alerts coming in the middle of the night followed by lots of bangs."
Exactly Abel, my son works near the area where the hotels have been subject to falling debris/drone attacks.
Every night and sometimes during the day there are loud bangs. Though it seems mostly in the early hours of the night.
This is when the missiles and drones are being blown up.
We're often on the phone to him and sometimes we have to chat in the middle of the night to try and reassure.
It feels awful being a parent and you get a text at midnight with the word "scared".
As a parent your number one job is to protect your kids and when they are across the world and you can't do anything you feel helpless.
He is on his own out there at just turned 21.
He is brave though and doesn't want to return.
He has a brilliant job over there which he loves, pays well and is rewarding.
This kind of job is just not available to him in the uk.
The first night was the worst, he didn't know what to do, go and hide in the underground car park?
In the end everyone was told to stay in and stay away from the windows.
The authorities advised at the start to stay indoors which he did.
He works for a British company over there, his boss has been great and always in touch with him and he went back to work in the office for the first time today.
This is the time you know that money doesn't matter but the health of your loved ones is always the major consideration.
We're ok with his decision to stay. He says he won't leave even if he got a slot on a repatriation flight.
I guess the Iranians are trying to drag as many countries into this as they can but at some point soon they'll stop.
Right now when we go to bed we hope we don't hear from him then we know he is ok.
It's when the phone bleeps at 3am with a message the heart starts to beat fast and worry sets in.
We are hoping things settle down there and there is no escalation.
For the time being we don't think he is in any mortal danger but if things do heat up more then we would hope he would come back for a while.
If you have any family out there, we sympathise but remember no civilian has been killed and only a small number injured and we must try and not let fear rule us.
Though that is easier said than done when it's a relative out there.
We had booked a trip to Seville in a couple of weeks and I think we'll go unless things heat up more as after all we can talk to him from anywhere.
Tomorrow evening we're off to see a new show at one of my sister's theatres, the fantastic new Soho Place.
Soho Place is the first new theatre in London for decades, which my sister designed and owns.
It's a lovely place.
The show we're seeing is Marie and Rosetta which stars the amazing singer Beverley Knight, more on the show at the website
We're off to the after party, and hopefully we get to meet Beverley!
I've always had high cholesterol and it runs in the family.
Hence the docs obviously want to put me on statins. I don't trust them and having done a lot of research having high cholesterol doesn't mean a heart attack is on the way.
After all my parents lived well into their 80s on high c. One suspects taking statins just fixes a number.
But I did look into doing it more naturally and amazingly I tried one month of natural pills which contain plant sterols, garlic and pine bark, all proved to help. I haven't noticed any side effects.
My levels came down dramatically by 15pc.
Now obviously I am not a doc and I don't want to lead you down the garden path but this really did work for me.
The natural remedy pills I took, a link is here:
As they say please do your own research and check if they are suitable for you, sterols (similar to the ones that go into Benecol products) aren't recommended for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, could be other exceptions so have a read about plant sterols first.
If you take some let me know if they worked for you.
We should be doing another retreat in 2026.
Places are limited to only ten and you need to apply for one, we chat to you and make sure it's right for you.
Interested? Email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "2026 retreats interested". We'll then put you on a list to contact next year and allocate places on a first come first served basis.
People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.
II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.
If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.
I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.
He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard it on TV.
Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.
It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.
My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
I don't blame you.
She didn't say anything except to take the credit for interest rates being cut.
Memo: Interest rates coming down means we're doing badly.
No ideas, no plans, no nothing as far as I could tell.
Tax thresholds are stopping people from really going for it.
Like the 100k, a quid over and you pay massive tax.
Or the £90k vat threshold, businesses stop trying to advance over it.
And the many tax steps. If only someone would sort it out. Anyone? No?
Quote of the week from Donald Trump.
"This really isn't Winston Churchill we're dealing with."
It's more like the supply teacher is suddenly in charge and everyone can take the piss.
The Walsh Sisters *** BBC1
An adaptation of a mix of hilarious Irish writer Marian Keyes.
Episode One was a bit of a disappointment and doesn't quite bring across the humour of the books.
The matriarch of the family is badly done. Perhaps better to just do a book at a time than a mish mash.
I gather it improves as it goes on so I'll try the next.
Industry *****
Lots of themes explored via city life though the main one seems to be most in this show are a bit sh1tty.
Some very clever writing and if you are a trader then you'll even get the technical bits.
If you never saw it bingewatch from series 1.
THE DYERS CARAVAN PARK ** Sky One
Danny Dyer and his daughter put money in to revive a crappy caravan park in Essex.
It seems to be concocted as entertainment with lots of staged events rather than any business element, we have no idea how much he's put in. (Not much I suspect).
There are some fun bits - Danny asks the residents what needs doing then rather wish he hadn't, Some entertaining bits but some fast forwarding required.
The Lady **** Itv
First episode shows her getting the job with Fergie.
Fergie is played very nicely and one can imagine this is exactly what she is like.
FOUR IN A BED **** Ch4
The best reality show is back!
There's nothing like nosing around B and B's and then watching the contestants tearing each other to pieces and underpaying.
You can see them thinking: what can we find to underpay?
I do think they all carry small bags of pubic hairs to pop in the shower.
The Times reckons no-one knows how to do small talk at parties anymore and has produced a guide.
I try to shake things up a bit.
At the last party I went to, the usual "How do you know the hosts?" is the inevitable first question.
My reply was. "I met them at a swingers party."
"She's terrible at it, but he's pretty good."
The new Green MP is a plumber.
Let's hope she doesn't become PM.
Otherwise we are guaranteed leaks.
New Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.
The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

Markets
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
It's been a tricky and volatile few days in the markets.
It's been trickier than normal for me because the worries of my son in Dubai have rather taken precedence over money.
What with being up at night trying to reassure him, sleep has suffered and that is not the best mentally for making decisions. So I've tried to not take too much action.
But I do what I usually do in these situations.
That is to lob some shorts on pretty fast as both spreadbets and in the Isas.
Then I know whatever happens if some of my investments dive the shorts help to cover (or hedge as it's known technically).
This also helps me to hold onto my best shares knowing I can withstand a bit of a drop in some of them as money is coming in via the short,
In other words, I can try and take as little action as possible on the good ones, though topslicing or selling anything weak.
The main question is: how long is this going to go on for?
And for now, we don't know which leads to uncertainty, fear and volatility.
There is no right answer in these situations.
There is actually a case for the view of: I'll do nothing!
Ie, I'm happy with the companies I hold, they will bounce back sooner or later and they pay good dividends.
I have every sympathy with that argument and indeed that could easily work.
Let's say if you did nothing and came back in three months, and you hold good ones, well they could all easily be higher as things settle.
However on the flip side, things potentially could worsen and you wish you'd sold. In the end, we are gambling and there isn't a right answer.
The upside of turmoil is there are some fantastic bargains around and if you're a beginner, it is not such a bad thing to begin buying when shares are lower.
Indeed I am very tempted to do some bargain hunting.
Problem is will the market go even lower and will the bargains get even better?
Almost every time I have done a hotel seminar recently the market has melted down on that very day.
And almost every time if you had bought later that day or in the weeks after, you'd be in the money.
So rather surprising I wasn't doing a hotel seminar on Monday!
I guess the old cliche stands, buy on fear.
I've been looking for companies that dropped quite a bit but now look excellent value.
I couldn't quite resist the current price of Globaldata.
Today it moved to the main market and at current market cap a little rise could see it heading straight into the FTSE 250.
Funds would have to buy in and I could see a very nice rise here.
It's fallen off a cliff because it's one of those that has collapsed over fears of AI.
If those fears are overdone it is looking remarkably cheap after more than halving.
Of course, there is inherent danger in buying a faller and so it comes under the Get out Quick if it carries on going down scenario.
Its statement a few days ago was pretty positive, a decent balance sheet is there and if the ai fears are mainly unfounded it looks a massive bargain.
I hope I am buying near the bottom.
Another that catches the eye that has fallen from grace is Craneware and I picked up a few.
This one nearly went through at a bit of 2500p not so long ago and now looks tremendous value.
Its recent statement was decent and it says its US healthcare plans are developing well.
Profits are up, outlook seems strong and debt is coming down to small levels.
So all in all Craneware now does look cheap and I'm in.
All three buys are subject to my "get out quick" policy if I'm buying a share that has tanked.
When buying shares that have fallen a lot I tend to operate my get out quick policy because there is nothing worse than catching a falling knife.
I would get out and then look lower. However I have a "three times than forget it for 6 months" policy.
If you keep buying something and it continues falling the market is telling you something.
I added some Cordiant after a very decent report yesterday.
Alongside a very encouraging update it said it was planning to move to the main market from aim.
This is a great idea and on its current valuation it would go straight into the FTSE 250.
The beauty of Cordiant is it's pretty much under the radar and the move to the main index will raise its profile nicely.
I reckon this looks like a lovely longer-term isa hold.
Onto shorts.
I spreadbet shorted the FTSE and the Dow and I also bought some gold as a spreadbet and as an etf in the isa but I'll discuss that on the subscription email only as I don't want to drag beginners into more complex trades like this.
I've shorted Diageo which is in quite some bother.
Sales are pretty flat and it's feeling the force of all the tax changes, it does feel like an excellent short play.
The airlines are going to struggle while the war is on and oil prices rise.
Wizzair, Jet2 Com and Easyjet shares could all fall further.
I shorted more Raspberry Pi which for some weird reason shot up again. I think those buying are nuts!
All the sudden rises are just a chance to short it some more. I will be buying lots of raspberry pies with the winnings.
Or blowing a lot of raspberries if it goes the other way.
Given market problems I'm always amazed hardly anyone wants to understand how to short or make money on the downside.
If you want to proactively go short or wonder how to protect your portfolio please read the chapter on shorting or what to do in a down market in NT6.
Shorting gives you the chance to make money selling poor companies and making money from falls, or the indices etc.
If you want to short using spreadbetting and you never did it before please get my spreadbetting book before doing anything.
Link here: https://amzn.to/4smbsXd
A good starter spreadbet site is TN because you can get guaranteed stops on shorts on all the top shares and you even get paid a small amount everynight on an open short! Spreads on FTSE and some 250 stocks are very tight indeed.

Given the war I looked to axe anything weak or disappointing especially if it was losing.
Snx's statement was a disappointment and went with a loss of £600. However, it does have a big cash pile and after its fall shares do look tempting at a very low rating and considering buying them and tucking them away for a year.
The cash pile is getting close to half its market cap so I can't imagine it will go much lower which means it could be a good entry point.
Pwr went for a loss of £320. Got it wrong on what I thought was a promising new issue, but will keep an eye as it looks promising. Boku and Mha both went around breakeven.
I bagged a £600 profit on the M and S spreadbet long. I have a £1,500 profit on the ISA M&S trade but I decided to keep that one for now. I lost patience with Spi and took a profit of £720.
I've also topsliced bits and pieces especially where I had big positions so I have cash to spare to get stuck in if there is a major tank.
Sitting on roughly £300,000 of cash right now which is nice firepower if needed.
Keller, wow! What a statement! Shares that I bought recently have soared.
Great statements from Water Intelligence and Tristel, but of course shares didn't move much as there aren't many buyers around.
Our biggest cat is responsible for stopping me from making what would have been a great trade.
I noticed Bloomsbury's shares were bouncing ahead of a statement and figured it would put out its usual ahead of statement.
As I lined up the buy, He jumped on the table demanding food. Sorted him out but then I got distracted by things I needed to do in the kitchen.
Sorted those but on returning to the computer the market had closed!
Of course there just had to be a massive jump today. Sod's law eh.
Given my upcoming trip to Seville I'll be updating a week later than normal on the 26th.
Here's hoping the war will have ended. Trump did say 4 weeks so you never know.
Wouldn't that be fantastic? Fingers crossed this happens and it doesn't escalate any further.
Good luck with whatever moves you make in this difficult environment.
And if you have any relatives in the Gulf, take heart. No-one has been killed and surely they must be running out of drones.
There are one or two more trades but I have to save those for my subscribers, after all they have to get something extra don't they.
If you'd like to subscribe let me know. Well, it isn't strictly a subscription, you only pay once and you get till I stop doing it, likely when I kick the bucket!
I can't be bothered with monthly or yearly payments so once in, you're in and that's it.
You get all the website material and trades delivered to your inbox earlier than the site is updated every other Thursday, extra trades, any US trades and high risk ideas I use for my sipp.

Mentoring
Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:
"Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.
But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.
I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
