Runway football

*** Next seminar is, wow.. not far away on October 15th.

More details below but if you couldn't make September's event here is your chance, mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line. Early bird discount is on offer but it really is about to expire! There won't be another till near Xmas!

Don't get too excited but the Naked Trader Diary 2013 is available for pre-order and should be ready to send out in about 3 weeks.

And it's only about a tenner. A bargain or what?

What's in it? Well, I hope everything a naked trader could want!

All the hot dates for 2013, like ex dividend dates, likely company reporting dates, sporting events, and even an arrow for each day telling you whether that day has been strong or not in the past.

There is also my thought of the week for each week of the year, and some looks at companies reporting on particular weeks.

I know many think desk diaries should be consigned to history and we should be online with our diaries but to me there is nothing like a lovely paper diary sitting on the desk.

I hope if you buy it you will enjoy having it on your desk during 2013... I guess I really designed it for myself to have on my desk.

Oh and there are fun bits too of course, and lots of cartoons!

And in a bit of feeble marketing, it would obviously make a great gift for your trading buddies, so don't buy one, buy five! (Great marketing huh?)
If you'd like to pre-order it The Naked Trader Diary 2013 you can just click this link here:

Since I led the rebelllion at the health club over us adults taking our kids swimming at half six on a Sunday evening the amount of kids swimming at this time seems to have doubled.

Surly guy who I had the row with now glares at me from a distance. Leave them kids alone, I want to sing to him.

He thinks it is all my fault the club is now awash with kids when he'd rather be having a quiet time. Well he shouldn't be in the service industry should he?

However I do personally ensure I don't have an accident of any kind because I really don't want to be rescued by him... no jumping in or diving from me while he is on.

It's dawning on us what we committed to when Christopher joined the A team at the local football club.

The grim warning from other parents about standing around freezing every Sunday in some godforsaken field somewhere miles away is kind of ringing true already - and it's not even winter yet.

We're getting used to finding some damp freezing field in the middle of nowhere while the 7-year-olds "play football" with their parents urging them on. Well, I don't! (Obviously I rush onto the pitch and jump on top of him whenever he scores).

This time we managed to find our way to a ground which appeared to be positioned right next to Heathrow Airport's landing runway.

God knows how anyone can hear anything the ref says with a plane landing next to the pitch every minute. One mistake by a pilot and we were all goners.

It took us ages to find the place but that didn't stop us getting a steely glare from the scary coach for missing the warm up. This guy shouts at the boys throughout the whole game. Usually "Wake up" or whatever it is they are doing wrong.

But it's good for them isn't it and they don't seem to mind. We looked him up. He is the director of some scary looking robot trading firm.

He has all kinds of amazing sounding degrees. He is more Alpha than Alpha. Super Alpha. I'll stay Beta. "Yes, anything you say boss, just please don't make me day trade...."

In his match summary the two "man of the matches" were... erm... well his son and another boy who attended his "optional" training 2.5 hours on Saturday. The rest of us were watching Fulham getting beaten by Man City.

I think when he put optional, he really means compulsory.

I guess we'd better be there for training Saturday afternoon .. or else...

I got persuaded by Mrs NT to put up a seminar place for a charity auction at the school.

I wonder what someone will bid for it. I have realised a problem though.

Since I put up the prize Mrs NT says parents have started looking at the website. Ooops.

As I have no share trading friends no-one I know personally reads it, and in general that's fun as I can say anything I like about people.

However now if I make any comments about the school I had better be careful...

I'd better not make any comments like: "Drat, I went to sports day and got stuck with the boring guy with bad breath...."

I would now like to state the school is fantastic as are all the parents I have ever met. All absolutely wonderful, lovely people, I do not and never will have a bad word to say about any of them !

Oh and Christopher has made it as striker for the school's A team football team and there is a match tomorrow...

If you couldn't make September's seminar the next one is coming up real soon...on Monday October 15th.

if you are interested in a seat mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "October seminar interested" in the subject line.

And the good news is for a short time there is a decent early bookers discount! Not for much longer though, get it while it's there....

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!

If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Follow Up Seminars

A follow up with me will be on Friday November 16th at Heathrow. This is for those who've been to a basic seminar with me but now want to improve. So we spend a day of live markets watching level 2, order books as well as researching new shares, coming up with new ideas for longs and shorts, and well, who knows what might happen. I love these days and it usually throws up some new ideas.

Sunday December 9th is the date for another technical analysis seminar with Susan who for many years has made decent money full time by using simple TA. She will teach you all about it in an easy and simple way to help improve buy and sell decisions.

If you're interested in either or both dates, email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "follow up", or "TA interested" or "both interested".

Lots of lovely feedback on the last event including this from Janet: "Thank you so much for what was a terrific 12 hour marathon on your part. I feel like I have been through a 12 hour therapy session that has given me back some confidence. I now feel I can indeed make trading work for me, after a few years of trying and testing and not quite comprehending and co-ordinating the right ingredients. The last late session researching various companies was a real help."

And Colin: "Highlights of the day for me were Level 2 and going through the selection process to choose shares. I have followed advice from your book in the past, and it really has worked for me before, but even though I understood the concept of Level 2 I never quite saw the real benefits of it. Two minutes into your explanation of how you use it I was kicking myself. I could not believe that I had done all my trades without it! Watching you check some shares was very useful, especially the speed which you can eliminate or shortlist the numerous possibilities out there. Just watching you doing it showed me how much time I had been wasting doing the same thing but by a much more torturous process."

* The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!

Lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.

I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.

Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.

Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

I read an excellent stock market thriller on holiday,

"The Fear Index" by Robert Harris.

A maths genius joins a hedge fund and together they create a monster trading robot giving it billions to play with.

The robot starts to short everything and starts to cause massive market crashes. Then takes on a mind of its own.

Plenty of excellent page turning stuff here, if you are a trader or investor a lot of it will ring true with the robots almost already in charge of some shares!

There's tons of drama and action and I couldn't put it down though it helps as it is a thriller about the markets!

If you're into the markets you'll love it.. here's an order link to the book:

Enjoy the read!!

Want to know what my last monthly elec/gas/phone/broadband/mobile phone bill was for me and Mrs NT?
What so you reckon? £250? £300?
Nope, wrong. Nothing at all. In fact, a CREDIT of £67 on my bill!
How so? Well, Utility Discount Warehouse offers 10% off your energy bill every year as long as you have 1,500 Telecom Plus shares.
But how do you fancy getting that same whopping 10% discount off the whole of your energy spend for the whole of your first year? Ie your last month will probably be free! You don't need to own any shares, just sign up with UDW services and do it via myself, and you also get my weekly email which is the website stuff direct to your inbox PLUS exclusive higher risk trades made for my pension!
All you have to do is take four services - choose from homephone, broadband, electricity, gas, mobile phone and the amazing discount and my email is all yours. I use all the services myself, and have done for many years. You get a UK call centre with calls answered quickly and a monthly bill.
An interesting email from a reader. The thrust of it was he was going to buy a share after doing a lot of research but then it went up 12% and he hadn't bought it yet. So he felt angry.
How does he stop/halt the feelings of anger?
Well, you have to take the emotion out of trading. Which isn't easy.
I suggested he should read this book.. by Jason Zweig
http://books.global-investor.com/books/256158.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
This is the one to read on psychology. Great read.
Fancy getting the naked trader updates direct into your inbox? And a bit before it gets updates on the net including news from my pension trades made from my SIPP?

All you have to do is take a phone or energy service from the Utility Discount Warehouse at www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal.

Many are saving a fortune from their energy bills.

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £145 inc vat via me instead of £173.71
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.

They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:
http://books.global-investor.com/books/167207.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

**** BOOKING FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 15TH OPEN

Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Oct 15th

Price is £590 plus vat. That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. There is currently a decent early bookers discount off that price - mail for details!
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "October seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

£100 Tradefair offer

I've started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply)
To get the offer, click here:

Naked Rambling

The economy loses £9bln a year because 600,000 turn up late for work every day apparently...

I reckon that is the least of it ! I reckon more is lost because office workers spend hours looking at Twitter Facebook and doing their shopping!

The awful party conferences lumber on. I can hardly bear to watch any of it.

I caught a small bit of Ed Milliband and had to switch off. Arrgghhh, you could see he had been "trained" for his speech. All walkabout and real sincerity.

All soundbites and no substance. All PR and no passion. Wow, he can talk without an autocue!!! He isn't so bad at public speaking as we thought!

As usual all we care about is delivery and not substance.

It all started with the dreadful Blair becoming PM. From that moment on politics changed from real belief in changing the country for the good into saying anything to win an election. All that mattered was spin and soundbites and all that mattered was staying in government.

What happened to the country didn't matter.

Say what you like about Neil Kinnock and Maggie Thatcher - they weren't in politics for the showbiz, something to do and "be in power".

They really believed in their cause - they were not interested in claiming expenses or being on TV. They really wanted to make the country a better place.

The current lot only care about themselves, their own positioning. The TV show The Thick of it sums it all up very nicely.

I haven't heard one single new or clever idea yet from anyone. Gosh, raise taxes on the rich (that makes things worse) - a "stamp duty holiday" (this will push house prices which are already too high even higher)

I wish we could have a panel of people who have really been in business and not just career politicians.

They could come up with new ideas. Perhaps under a banner: "Let's give this a try".

For example we could try flat tax for one year only. 30% for top rate, and 15% others. "Let's go Britain".

The idea is everyone could go for it, create new jobs, stimulate the economy and get to keep much more of that they earn. I bet this would work. I even bet you would make just as much back in tax.

I know it's not going to happen, I can dream can't I?

Not a single solitary interesting new or innovative new idea from anywhere. Pitiful.

And worse downright lies. Every millionaire will be getting a cheque for £40,000 because the top rate went down 5p is complete rubbish.

There are only 6,000 people in the whole country who earn more than a million. That's a big difference from the 300,000 or so who have more than a mill in the bank...

Boo hoo! The end of the brilliant Sopranos last week on Sky Atlantic!

But great news for those of you who never saw it... it's being repeated from the start from Wed at 9pm, just press record series and watch! Enjoy!

I tried the first bit of "Hotel GB" - a new show on Ch4. I had hoped it would be an interesting programme about business.

But of course not - it was channel 4's silly bunch of show-offs in another format.

Instead of teaching people how businesses should be run, they of course picked loads of misfits who can them be bullied by the "experts" for dramatic TV purposes and our entertainment.

I don't know about you but I'm bored with the schtick of Ramsay, Gok Bananas, Mary Portas et all.

They are telly people now - and one wonders why they left their businesses to be on TV nearly full time..

You can't do much but laugh at Downton Abbey. It gets sillier all the time with a terrible script and horrendous acting.

Bates seems to get younger by the day and as well as having an amazing amount of dyed new hair also appears to have a forehead with hardly any wrinkles on it anymore.

How on earth did that happen?

Hilary Devey looks scarier in every edition of Dragons Den. I am sure any day her head will split open and a robot head appear. Perhaps even a dalek plunger which will fire at a hapless contestant.

Sorry to hear that Duncan had a suspected heart attack. Maybe it is worth pointing out that there is more to life than money and at 63 perhaps he should consider selling up and relaxing more.

Have you noticed they are still dishing out hardly any money? Just £50k between the two of them this week....

Justin Bieber vomited on stage this week.

.. He must have suddenly started listened to his own music...

The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.

http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Naked Mail

Anne writes :
Agree about facebook - the youngsters who leapt onboard when it started,
posting dire photos of them doing things they shouldn't are now grown up and
getting on in their careers and errrrrr wondering if that photo of them
mooning in the disco in Majorca was a good idea!

Nice to think I am not the only unsociable grump to not want to follow the
minutiae of my friends and colleagues mostly boring lives!

I am in the states just now and feel the Starbucks asking name thing is just
more marketing bollocks to get them noticed. If they just speeded up the
service I might go there but americans seem to need all this 'service
bollocks' to make them think they are getting their moneys worth.

Thanks Anne,
well of course I agree, it's nearly all bollocks!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.

Markets

Goodness me. A few months ago all you had to do was say the word "Spain". Or "Greece" and the markets would tumble 200 points.

But any bad news appears to be taken in its stride for the moment anyway. It tries to go down then gets pushed up again.

Hmm, that would make a decent song... "I get knocked down but I get up again...."

And with the portfolio continuing to storm up I really have had little to do except put my feet up and fast forwards near to the end of a few Deal or No Deals and watch the money coming home.

Given I've banked nearly £30,000 of profits in the last few weeks I'm not taking any more profit off the table this time - however all that profit taking means there is a few quid lying about so I did make a trade or two.

I bet hardly anyone would buy a share that they already bought at 195 at 330 !

"You're crazy," they might say. "Take profits!"

However I am a great believer in following a story so I bought 2,500 CML Microsystems (CML) this week at 330 even though I bought them much lower, even though I already took some profits a bit lower, and even though I could have got them at 310 last week!

My reason for buying is 1 - strong upwards momentum , 2 a very strong breakout and.. 3 forward forecasts show them to be not expensive to me despite the big gains already. I can't think of 4....

So there. I'm in for more and even better sitting on profits of £1,500 on the original buy.I think there is probably more upside to come for CML, up to at least 400.

As those of you who get the sipp mail know I've been loading up with a company called Iomart (IOM) for some time, buying in the 120s, 140s and 160s and I think it was one of my ten to follow for 2012 - I have also added a spreadbet in it now too so adding this to the website at 174 as it was breaking up on substantial buying. It's heading for the late 190s as I write. If it can topple 200 that would be bullish.

Iomart is in cloud computing which as many of you know is getting quite a big thing and it looks to me like the type of company that could get bought out - could easily be taken out at a quid higher. Some risk of course as it is a jam tomorrow type of share and not one to buy on fundamentals.

I'm back in one of my faves BTG - still hold a position where I have trebled on it but time to get back in after it bottomed out in the 315 area. This time it's a spreadbet at 324 - it was breaking out nicely so an obvious trade and a nice statement today sends it higher. I suspect it won't be long before it's back up around the 400 level.

I've had a really lovely momentum trade in Dignity (DTY) - I am just sharing it and I shan't add it to the website trades as I'm about to take profits in it. (I hope).

But really - an easy 900-950 trade was just sitting there begging to be taken. The share has been trading in easy to read ranges for ages.

So it was simplicity itself to lob on a short term spreadbet at 905 - the idea being for a swing trade back up to 950 ish with the possibility of even lunging through that for a step up to a tenner.

I lobbed a giant S Bet on it, not one I would usually admit to here but it was about £50 a point or equivalent of nearly £50 grands worth. A tight stop at around 898 would ensure a max loss of £350 - I could take the stop out for safety's sake before the start of trading in case the spread opened up wide then stick it back on after the open.

However the reward would be a run up to 950 and a profit of over £2,000. The trade has nearly done its work as it's 933 as I write, so up nearly a grand and a half quicktime, There is half a chance it might even head through 950 and up to a tenner, I'll have to see. Almost certainly would sell half at the 950 area. Even better I hope this trade can be repeated a few times both long and short till the range changes.

Talking momentum I bought into one that isn't really one I would normally buy into as fundamentally it doesn't look so sound and that's Trinity Mirror (TNI) - it kept coming up as a breakout and with tons of buyers on the order book it looked an interesting little gamble so I got 8,000 at 56.5.

This gamble is already going well as it bust through 60 today - I'm going to hold a little longer I think but if it can manage 80 then I'm out!

Finally shorted some more Dominos (DOM) this time getting 535.

No sells, just enjoying the profits!

Portfolio Highlights

It's been another cracker of a week.

Sepura has rocketed skywards nicely with decent profits building - I would have thought at some point they should hit the 100 level.

Sporting Bet bid is still ongoing and we don't know yet whether it'll be taken out or not - the first paltry effort at 52.5p was not surprisingly declined - 65p ought to do it though. So probably by this time next week I'll be more quids in or else the bid doesn't happen and it's back to 40p. Given I took and banked some of the profit last week and that I'm in from 28p if the bid doesn't happen it doesn't matter. If it does, that's great.

Vectura reported more good news this week with another drug looking like a possible winner. It has zoomed up this week and brilliant profits building there now. What to say about Dialight? It continues its brilliant progress, and my profits are well over £100,000 on it. Trying to knock above 1200 at the moment, it's struggling for that but continues to look a long-term winner with even more upside. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at near 12 quid. Averaging up in these has made me a real fortune.

Apr has pushed nicely up through the 800 mark, 900 next? Probably take half profits around there.

Recent buy Lavendon tries hard to get above the 150 level. Spreadbet Keller has done well, can it break up through the 550 though?

Filtronic reported everything is on track and a broker upped its target to 58p. There is some temptation to bag a part profit but it seems well supported. My two media plays Creston and Chime both perform very well. Profits of over £3,000 in Creston and much more in Chime...in fact Chime continues to spike up on good volumes. Still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet.

In the shorts department Abcam can't seem to fall below 400, Carpetshite continues to devy gravity or any explanation as to why its shares are rated like a tech company's - the Man Utd short continues to pay off!

Kentz can't get through 440 for now ... Nichols continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark. It tries to push 800p today. If the Britvic- AG Barr merger is called off both will want to snap up Nichols.
Telecom Plus seems to be gaining traction again after a quiet spell and it broke through the 850 today. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000. Add in the dividends and the income has been terrific. Costain has leapt up nicely and in a decent profit now on the various trades in it. I reckon it should really be nearer 300 and maybe I will get there! It needs to tackle 250 to get higher.

It's been tempting to take final and big profits on the Lovely LOQ, and it is on the slide however given it announced potential in other countries so on that basis staying in there!

Long termer Entertainment One surprised the market with the buying of Alliance .. but seems like a good move - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think. Up today in a bad market.

Brilliant GB Group is rising again after coming back on profit taking. I have trebled and doubled on it now, I would hope it will gradually drift up to the 100p mark by year end.

Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore which has soared higher this week and paid a dividend too!

I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

£100 Tradefair offer

I've also started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply).

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..

Apologies the short table had'nt been updated for ages, webmaster had problems getting into it, it'll get sorted as soon as poss - closed trades if you missed them included profits in Afren, £290, Senior £270, Northgate loss £210, Domino loss £110, Mecom profit £2,000.
