It was good to meet so many lovely people at last week's seminar. Just a really nice bunch - all of you work hard to get places and I hope I helped.
I didn't go as manic as usual late on as only had two Mr Whippys.
I couldn't believe how many of you were still there into the evening. I reckon if I hadn't cried enough when I did some of you would have been there till midnight.
Hazel you did very well not to tuck into that gin! Hope you enjoyed it when you got back home!
Five of you have already booked the follow up seminar on dec 11th so look forwards to seeing you again. If you missed the seminar next is Dec 4th see above or below for details.
Yes we're in the middle of two weeks of half term, yes two weeks! Some parents I've been talking to would rather prefer it if it was two days...
It's a long time to keep them entertained especially as the nights are drawing in and shortly days will be cut off.
Well, as a special half-term "treat" I'm taking my son to an away game at Aston Villa. This is frankly a big give on my part. It involves a near three hour journey. There and back makes it six.
That's the whole day gone. Plus 90 minutes of sitting with a noisy bunch of hooligans! It better be a really good game with lots of goals to make up for it.
How's about Aston Villa 3 Fulham 4 or something like that. It better not be 0-0. I doubt it as our goalie seems to get into a major panic whenever the ball gets passed back to him... I'm sure by Sunday when it's over I'll be glad I did it for him.
New kitten Jacob has settled in well. He's having a whale of a time, is very playful and brilliant at cat litter. He's decided bald heads are nice and warm and cozy so the last two nights I have had a furry pussy on my head purring away. (Stop it now..)
However Jasmin the incumbent cat is not happy!
She has refused to purr since the new one arrived, gives us baleful "how could you" looks, and indeed appears rather cross.
But actually she just about seems to be coming round to the idea. We'll get there.
Just a reminder to be careful what you give away to the world of the internet- after all one security question is what is the name of your pet!
I wouldn't be so silly as to give that info away on the internet, do you think I am daft or something...
We went to see the opening night of "Young Frankenstein" at one of the theatres my sister owns, The Garrick.
It's the Mel Brooks musical and of course being Mel Brooks it is zany to say the least.
Two hours of pure old vaudeville style entertainment. PC it isn't - which maybe adds to the fun.
More double entredres than you can shake a stick at, lots of cavorting around and a hilarious rendition of Putting On The Ritz by the Frankenstein monster himself.
Mel Brooks got a massive round of applause as he entered the theatre. My sister says at age 91 he is incredibly sharp, witty and totally there. He was at most of the rehearsals.
At the end he took the mike and said he was happy with the production but wasn't happy that as it was press/family and friends night "everyone got in free".
So if you happen to be visiting London anytime take a trip to the Garrick Theatre.
Thanks once again to all of you who came to the seminar . Lovely feedback, looks like some of you had fun too, great senses of humour around.
Pat wrote: "I really enjoyed the day. Highlights were seeing you trade and how you did it.
I came looking for clarification on level 2 and spread betting
Both took me some time to get my head around but I think I now have it .
You do clearly enjoy the day and you are amazingly open about your trades and your methods. Although this mirrors the books I don't think there is any substitute for seeing it 1st hand."
Thanks Pat and to all - wish you all the best with your trading in the future.
If you missed this one next date is Dec 4th .Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line There is a giant early bird discount on offer.
(Follow up is Dec 11th).
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Here's some feedback from from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
I love it the most getting mails from people who have spent a day with me some time ago and are doing well. This was very pleasing from Jason:
"I took part on one of your courses this summer and I wanted to send you a belated thank you. The next day I got myself Level 2 and sold all of my positions, most of them had losses, I then started to buy shares, some which we found on the course and others using the techniques you shared, the simplicity of your selection process surprised me but I also found it easy to apply. Within a couple of weeks I felt so much more at ease trading, I wasn't worried about my decisions anymore because I felt in control of each trade, I knew when to sell and when to hold on and I'm no longer anxious when I open my account because it's always in the plus.
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
Thanks Jason but it is down to you, you applied the discipline needed and had the cuts to cut your losers.

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Dec 4th
Price is £690 plus vat. However there is decent early bird discount on offer. Mail me for details.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Dec seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
I do think the Government needs to take a big gamble, be big and bold. Now big and bold is not T May, however well meaning she is.
What we need at some point is a "go for it" leader with bright and big ideas. If it was me I would say: "Come on UK, let's all go for it".
I would slash taxes for all. I'd say "Let's try slashed taxes for two years. But in return for keeping a lot more money I want to see you go for it."
The housing market needs a massive kick. I would abolish stamp duty totally for younger first time buyers up to certain levels, slash it for everyone else - apart from foreign company buyers where I would increase it further!
Once the housing market gets going so does the whole economy as people have work to do. At the moment it is moribund.
I'd also encourage new business with some kind of Government "Dragons Den".
Perhaps in every city once a month, anyone with an idea presents to top business people who are given a budget to award start up money - and to help entrepreneurs.
Well, whatever - we need some BIG ideas. Not same old. I do of course realise it's easy for someone like me to spout off, actually putting into practice... pretty hard!
Rescue cats. I thought it was an April fool.
Apparently cats have such an amazing sense of smell they are doing trials re using cats to sniff people out in emergencies, etc.
If there are two things you have to understand about cats is
A They are selfish f
B And lazy.
They simply aren't going to do any work. End of.
Curb Your Enthusiasm's new series is brilliant. It's just wonderful to have a series that isn't either PC Channel 4 or dumbed down and twee BBC or moronic ITV.
The meeting between Larry and Salman Rushdie! Just totally superb comedy. And doesn't Salman Rushdie make a decent actor. Very impressed.
Fatwah sex! Hilarious. It's pretty, pretty hard to bother to watch any other "comedy" after this. The structure, the writing, the improv. Just a classic.
Liar ended somewhat limply and there will be a second series. I don't really think "Who killed Andrew" is really going to cut it.
Would be better to leave as is. It was pretty hard to believe in real life the police wouldn't have searched his mum's shed.
The Apprentice as usual entertains. Yes, we know it's crap and not a business show but it is entertainment. The funniest thing is watching Sir Lord A's ego running right out of control. The highlight was the helicopter arrival at the hotel. Though he did look a tad queasy!
The robot task was a hoot. I can hardly believe they are so bad. I had a robot when I was nine that was pretty similar.
The young lads insulted the over 60s expecting they were only interested in pills and pads. As Lord Sir A pointed out they were more likely to be interested in booking somewhere in Spain.
The bad grammar and spelling in the poster was outrageous as was the name change for the robot was the last minute.
The lads are a disaster in their identikit cheap suits and designer glasses. Could the show be proving that new tech has dumbed down even already dumb Apprentice candidates.
But the main news is what has happened to Claude? He is giving us bald guys a bad name.
From stealing the show with his bulldog interviews he's become a poodle, rolling over whenever addressed by his lordship. Hardly gets a look-in - indeed why does Sir need him now? Just let him appear once for the interviews.
Dragons Den surprisingly continues to be interesting and unlike Sir Lord A, Peter Jones seems to have reigned in the ego a bit.
Not sure though what our ex banker brings to the table. She looks tired and bored with the whole thing. And when will those applying just memorise their figures. How hard can it be??
Ozark entertains on Netflix and just watched the first episode of "Power". Looks very promising with plenty of violence but not really enough sex.
Mr Robot has started a third series, the mrs doesn't like it so watching it on my own. While it's a bit bonkers it's also interesting and the first episode even had Theresa May in it!
I had a go at the newest series of Star Trek on Netflix. Not a bad effort but it was cliche ridden from the first officer stopping the captain doing something to the baddie: Not the tedious grunting klingons again!
They must be the dullest most annoying enemies ever. Beam them off to a different galaxy far far away..

I want to tell you of an experience I had this week. After reading your new book Trade Like A Shark.
I had finished my research on some stocks and as I was about to buy when I felt myself get really excited about it because two of them were making good gains. I stopped myself, admitted to myself that my emotions were running amuck and I closed the computer.
The next day I made the trades but with ice running through my veins and no emotion. I found that by admitting to myself that my emotions where high I could gain control again.
Excellent you are really on the way to becoming a proper shark!
Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Fantastic seminar.

genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Often I find people with a decent amount of cash stowed away worry about their bank going bust and there is only a £75k get your money back guarantee.
As, lucky me, I hold lot in cash including 5 years worth of school fees to come I had investigated this and found that National Savings has a savings account that is 100% guaranteed by the Government up to £2m.
The interest rate surprisingly isn't too bad at around 0.7% and though of course inflation eats away a little it saves having to have many different bank account which is very irritating! Please research this yourself.
And obviously there are premium bonds too up to 50k. I seem to get on average £75-£100 a month in prizes.
Markets keep rising - in fact the more worry and fear there is around the more it goes. It could be a blow off top. At the mo it keeps getting to about 7550 on the FTSE then halting. Indeed a short at 7550 and then long in the late 7400s can pay dividends!
It could be there is more to come. It could be a major slump is on the way. I haven't the foggiest!
But I think it is probably worth having some cash! However profits have rocketed higher for the portfolio the last couple of weeks and I think personally I have gained well over £50,000 on paper.
With another seminar, again, one or two trades showed up I would never have got from lazing around at home.
..I bought some Fulcrum Utility Services (FCRM). It's a safeish (well as safe as anything can be ) utility infrastructure provider. It looks mighty cheap and has a decent pile of cash too.
The board looks very experienced and I'm thinking this is a long-term tuckaway with a longer-term view. It could gradually go a lot higher bar a crash. Nice dividend for holders of close to 4% .
Concurrent Technology (CNC) has come back to a decent buying level after flying too high for a bit.
Interim results last month looked decent. The outlook for this computer board outfit was re-iterated. Although at first glance looks like profit and revenues are down, last year's figures were a lot bigger due to a one off sale.
Orders are on the up, particularly from the US. There is also over £7m in cash. Another that could gradually go higher, these non volatile slow risers are the best.
ULS Technology looks interesting (ULS).
Seems to go up in steps, holds for a while then rises again. Interesting as it keeps gaining clients for its conveyancing software.
The risk here I guess is a housing crash. Or is it? I wonder whether indeed there will be lots of sales going through! It's also a bit risky as a trading statement is due soon (last year Nov 1st).
So a small amount for now, get out quick if the statement is any sort of warning! It has net cash so a bust is unlikely. Bought a few live at the seminar.
I topped up on Ten Entertainment Group (TEG). It's half-term and we took advantage of Ten's half term offer and we all went bowling.
Our local arcade was doing great business. The food is sh1t of course, all high margin crap but that's good for us investors!
It doesn't stop families wolfing it all down to provide the daily sugar and salt fix. Looks really well run and happy to hold some more.
With Hollywood Bowl a very similar outfit I think there is a chance of a bid for Ten from Hollywood at some point. 280p? Well, I would buy Ten if I was Hollywood.
I guess maybe it could end up the other way round! Strike !
I bought a stockbroker! Jarvis Group (JIM) which owns X-o which a lot of people use for their isas.
Profits are rising fast and the cash under its own admin rose more than 15%. With Barclays terrible new stockbrokers service driving a lot of its customers away I'd have thought Jarvis will benefit.
I'd have shifted my barclays account as it is so bad now but I daren't try it yet as for now accounts could be frozen for weeks and I don't trust Barclays to handle it well.
I've made a short (betting on it to go down) on Devro (DVO). a risky idea as it's possible they could put out a good statement shortly. But... there seems to be a few problems.
A massive debt of £151m, a big pension deficit and a rating which seems too high for the problems it has. On the upside they seem to be doing well in China and have put forward a programme to cut costs.
It's has a good rise from 140 to 240 and that seems to be more than enough. I'm looking for a fall back to the early 200s. Shorts are risky because they could suddenly rise and I would try and get out if it goes against me.
One of the most irritating things about investing is making a good profit on paper on something and it keeps drifting down. Especially when there is no apparent reason. Amo kept falling, slowly, and with demand appearing weak I sold well below peak but still banking a profit of £183 and £1,935 on the older trade. Sometimes best to shoot first, ask after.
And another is you were in a great profit, a warning then comes along either wiping out a lot of the profit or causing an expected loss. I'd totally forgotten I had a small pos in Ctec till reminded... by a profits warning!
Indeed I should have taken profits ages ago. Those profits would have been much bigger but ended up with just £110. It has got harder to keep an eye on everything but at least I did my usual get out quickish on a warning.
The Pets At Home short proved purrfect! It easily reached target but everytime I thought about banking profits it kept on going down. This afternoon it's down quite a bit again so I decided a good bet would be to bank half the short and keep the rest going for a touch longer. If it starts to go up from here will bank the rest. A decent profit for a couple of weeks of £875 with maybe more to come.
They went sharply down after an institution baled out - probably for the same reason I shorted, they look expensive over 200p - for now, long term could be different. Support is clear at 160. Would buy anywhere around there.
With more than £2.5 million in the market at the mo I am going to start some cleaning out and try and reduce positions.
Given the market looks high, I've banked some substantial profits on many older trades. I want to have plenty of cash available in case of any downturn..
Knos went for a profit of £1,121. JLG profit £4,335. CSP £2,730. Avap £6,035. Part Renew for £4,122. Part Zyt £565. Keeping a decent slug through of the last two. That's profits banked of £21,901.
As I mentioned earlier Profits have absolutely rocketed for the portfolio the last couple of weeks.
This has been due to some giant gains in some stocks. These include Yu Group, Iomart, Entertainment One, Alliance Pharma,. ITV, Everyman, morgan Sindall, Safecharge, Burford, GVC among others.
The supergroup spreadbet has gone way over target, probably close very shortly!
Nice report from Flowtech Fluidpower which meant the shares stayed level on results day even after a good rise. Brokers are targetting over 200p.
Everyman Cinema has raised loads of cash to create many more cinemas. The placing was oversubscribed which shows a lot of managers think Everyman is on the right road. Continues as a long-term hold.
Microgen and Burford Capital hold onto massive gains well.

** Two Newer Spreadfirms I Use
It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

If you like to trade the FTSE, Dow, or currencies then Spreado has an outstanding tight 0.8 spread - that is incredibly tight. The platform is very good and robust and have used it to great satisfaction and profits.
You can sign up at this link which includes a decent market commentary:

I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are. Read Spreadbetting chapter in naked trader 4 which highlights the risks.

Telecom Plus Offer
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
