This is the last website update till September 4th as I take my usual summer break.

UPDATE: The radio show went well, thanks for all your contributions, delighted to say the next one will be September 9th 10am-noon.

Lots of looks at reporting companies, competitions, and your contributions, more details Sept 4th from 4pm.

You can tune in just by pasting in this url to your laptop or phone and press play.

If you get cut off just refresh the URL. Don't forget to press play!

Been having some fun nights out at the theatre.

Fawlty Towers was really funny and we enjoyed the after party, lots of luvvies galore.

My sister whisked us away after to a luvvie club where we all had a cheese fest.

Cheese souffles followed by Welsh Rarebit.

I know "" that's probably a week lobbed off my life and even higher cholesterol and I'm still not taking statins.

We also saw Indian comedienne Zarna Garg who was hilarious.

Very witty discourses of Indian families in particular the pushy Indian mums.

Don't forget the brilliant Mel Brooks' The Producers starts near the end of August at one of my sister's theatres the Apollo.

Book here before it gets sold out! https://nimaxtheatres.com/

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

https://tinyurl.com/mr3asr2x

If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.

I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.

He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.

You can hear be blabbing on about how I came to be a trader and suchlike.

https://zeuscapital.co.uk/adp-podcast/ scroll down to find the one with me.

Took the credit card tracker with me to Sri Lanka. Used it twice to locate where the cards were!

Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!

Link to the ones I bought:

https://amzn.to/40cyCTu

Put one in your passport wallet and one in your credit card wallet or purse.

Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard it on TV.

Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/ontv
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Mid range food restaurants have definitely gone downhill.

Not totally their fault, with staff costs increasing it's harder and harder to turn a profit.

Problem is corners are now being cut on the food as well and quality has plummeted.

After eating at various mid ranges, all the meals were pretty awful (talking about mains at around £20-£25.

So far the only one still producing decent quality (for now) is Brasserie Blanc so congrats to them.

My 92-year-old lady who I talk to every week for Help The Aged is rather annoyed about all the sport on TV over the last few weeks.

I can see where she comes from. She is not interested in tennis or football.

Yet there it is, on nearly every channel every night.

She especially doesn't understand why the whole night it taken up with a woman's football game between Sweden and Norway.

I'd have thought stick it on BBC 3 and run the BBC 1 schedule as normal? Then everyone is happy? Obviously fair enough to show the final or England games on One.

Btw my elder lady friend is in full health and has never missed a weekly call with me for 12 years with illness!

Who'd be a teacher?

Apparently pupils are picking Tik Tok over teacher for guidance on exams.

Not surprising but what happens next?

If pupils use AI to write their work and teachers use AI to mark it, what could possibly go wrong.

I'm pretty sure I'm known as "Mr Cherry" at the local greengrocer (yes we actually have one of those where I live).

Go on, give it a plug, Dahlia in Barnes.

Anyway the cherries. I have a £7 a day habit though it usually comes out at something like £6.88 which is so handy for getting rid of 1 and 2ps.

That's nearly £50 a week or £2,500 odd a year.

But they're lovely and sweet and juicy and... someone help me. Make me stop.

Squid Game 3 **** Netflix

Entertaining through to its surprise twist ending which just possibly could set up a movie.

Plenty of themes about the haves and have nots run through the show but taken as pure entertainment it has it!

Too Much *** Netflix

Possibly too much, especially the overlong sex scenes.

Lena Dunham's new series is a slight disappointment, and it is no "Girls".

But there is just about enough there "" it's a shame it wasn't produced better; there's a feeling Lena was "given her head" (as it were).

Some longer boring bits left on the cutting room floor would be a massive help.

The Couple Next Door *** CH 4

I assumed was going to try this for 20 mins and switch off as it was bound to be crap.

To my surprise although it's bonkersly unbelievable it's rather fun.

As it's a joint UK/US production, it's supposed to be set in Leeds but it's nothing like Leeds, more like a US street.

The hospital depicted appears to have all private rooms in its a and e, with no stacked-up trolleys in the corridors!

For some fun with no attention or brain required, it's a good summer bonkbuster and the madness of it is the actual attraction.

Heads of State ** Amazon

Pretty awful cliched unbelievable action movie with Idris Elba not surprising it went straight to Amazon rather than being shown in the cinema.

Terrible dialogue though the action sequences aren't bad with amazingly the stars not even grazed by a bullet even though they get shot at by 100s of baddies.

Still, if you have some time to waste or had a big dinner and can't concentrate on much, maybe!

Trainwreck: Poop Cruise **** Netflix

Don't watch this hilarious documentary if you're soon going on a cruise.

A cruise full of America's heaviest drinkers end up having to poo in plastic bags as the ship is marooned with all electrics gone.

From fun times its everyone for themselves!

Watch and see humanity stripped to its bare bones, what larks.

I'm off shortly to see Coldplay.

I'm taking my assistant with me "" but don't tell the wife will you?

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
How long can this very nice market uplift continue?

UK shares are having a rather good time, possibly spurred on by their perceived cheapness.

We are now hitting summer trading, which is usually a bit tricky.

With much thinner volumes and more volatility, it is actually a good time for most to take some time off the market.

I don't expect to do much trading during August unless there's a black swan event or some very good news on a company.

Indeed I've already not done much over the last couple of weeks.

Just as well I'm not a tipster or I'd have to invent stuff to keep your monthly direct debit going!

However one or two shares have caught my eye and I've had a little clean up of shares that seem to have run out of puff for now.

There are still shares that came up at the last online seminar that I've been keeping an eye on and bought three of them that we discussed online on the day.

Globaldata caught my eye as it came up at one of the screens we did at the seminar.

It's trading 10p under a tender offering which means it's almost a no brainer in that the company will offer to buy your shares at 150p later this year.

It's moving to the main market later in the year which is usually a good sign.

After a slow start to the year it seems things are improving though dollar weakness has caused a headwind.

But given the tender offer, and the chance there could be a bid in the future after two were turned down it looks like a nice tuckaway.

It's also on a major support level with plenty of buyers under the current share price.

A smaller retailer called Cakebox looks an interesting longer-term ISA hold idea, this one was on my "Dash for Cash" screen on Sharepad.

My screen looks at lots of criteria especially strong balance sheets although actually the cash has recently gone as it's just bought Ambala which specialises in Asian sweets, raising money from its cash pile and a fund raise.

This should begin to push up profits and seems a good use of the cash it held.

This looks like a nice gentle isa hold, maybe 2-3 years, with some growth and a dividend of over 5pc while waiting.

There is also the potential for a takeover from a bigger business, all in all, for now the shares look cheap.

Another that came up on my Dash For Cash screen was Gaming Realms with its £13m plus cash balance.

This is a mobile focussed gaming outfit which seems to be going well.

Shares are nicely on the move up and could be more to come.

It's using some of its cash to buy back its own shares which helps.

Profits were up an impressive 61 pc.

It's growing over in the US and has launched in Virginia the fifth US state regulated for I gaming.

If you want access to my Dash For Cash screen it is on Sharescope.

You can get 2 weeks free access to it by doing a free trial, link is here:

https://sharescope.co.uk/nakedtrader

There is also a decent discount on that link.

Sharescope is very decent with so much content, and if you sign up you get an hour's free tour online with one of their lovely geeks.

It really is quite incredible how shares nearly always fall on the day of any announcement if they already have gone up a bit.

It's happening time after time.

For most, you could sell up and bank profits the day before a statement, wait for the inevitable drop on the day, then buy back a day/few days later!

One example this week was Mony, bank profits at 218, buy back at 197! Then it goes straight back up!

And I averaged up in Kier after it went down on results and is now going back up yet another similar story.

The main reason for falls on statement days is holders decide to bank profits on statement days even if the statement is positive.

It is also known as "Better to travel than arrive".

So on this basis I took profits of £218 in SDI which reports next Wednesday.

The statement is very likely to be good, but unless it's way ahead of, profit takers will come out, and my plan is to buy back a day or three later.

Of course I could just trying to be too much of a clever clog, the statement could be knock out and my idea would seem foolish as shares scoot up on the day!If so, I will try and get in early.

I banked some profits on shares that were doing well but seemed to be pulling back.

Alu went for a profit of £360, KGH for a profit of £982 and Mcb for a profit of £30.

It's bid time !!!

Yes, Alpha International has been bid for at a 25pc premium and I have a lot of them.

For the website holdings it is actually a profit of a very nice £21,090, the biggest profits for a website position this year so far.

Been a lovely trade, I still hold some I bought at 800p a couple of years ago so to be able to sell at 4250p is rather fab!

As usual with bids, you can either sell at a slightly lower price now or wait to get the whole bid in your account in a few weeks. Doesn't look like there will be a further uplift in the bid price though you never know.

I've got a decent holding in YU Group, mainly because I've doubled and trebled on it over time so far.

It reported this week, all in line but noted broker Panmure has put a target of 2050p on it, citing how cheap it is with over £100m in net cash.

Plenty of opportunity for it to re-rate especially if it can do something with the cash and it pays a very handsome dividend and picked up a lot of cash from it while holding.

I can't quote any more of the broker note as it is copyright but if you want to read the note or see other broker notes on smaller companies it is worth subscribing to researchtree.

Here's a link with a free trial and a discount.

https://www.research-tree.com/code/nakedtrader

It's got quite a lot of other decent features too like a short tracker and videos.

Synetics where I've built a reasonable holding came up with a decent statement though the share price is stuck for now.

I don't mind holding shares which move up in "steps".

They get re-rated every so often and when they do the rise can be quick, you just need to stay patient. It went ex dividend today.

Investors tend to be inpatient and end up selling up if a share price doesn't move and they often end up regretting it.

Buyers have come back into MS International (MSI) after the profit taking as I suspected might happen.

There's been some decent buying over the last few days and the price is beginning to push up

There are many potential catalysts for some further gains here, maybe a sell off of its unwanted divisions for cash, or a defence order.

Decent report from long-term hold Me Group which has put itself up for sale.

Judged on these figures it's a nice each way bet!

It's easily worth the current valuation and any bidder would have to come in at around 300p I figure. With a bit of patience, could be rather nice with possible massive upside and little downside.

Journeo has come back a bit on profit taking could be a nice time to buy on weakness.

Recent buy Exiliir is down today but only because it went ex dividend for 11.5p.

Entry to the main market should see the share price push up and likely entry to SETS system soon rather than market makers should see the spread close up.

And Telecom Plus is down because it went ex dividend for a mighty 57p today and so on Aug 15th I will get a massive cash payment enough to easily pay all my household bills for a year and some nice meals on top.

If you don't read stuff about my life at the top of the page (and why should you?) I am taking my summer break and the next website update is September 4th.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.

if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Buy and read! Amazon link: https://amzn.to/46v2hcg

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

Amazon have them, link here: https://amzn.to/460qjeY

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here: https://amzn.to/3Z4VALw
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
