First off a new online seminar oct 24th - mail for details, come and spend a day online with me and live markets.

Back from a lovely investors retreat in Palma, and a few days holiday tagged on the end.

Maybe this sounds snobby but McDonalds has opened its biggest ever branch at Palma Airport just for the Brits in the UK bound departure area.

I really am not kidding: As we passed at 11am there were QUEUES to get in!

Yes, Brits were stuffing big macs in that early before a flight.

Must have been 100s in there and waiting.

Frankly most looked obese and wobbly, and it was awful to see young kids already massive.

No point putting one in the Spanish side, they are not interested in this junk.

No wonder the NHS is under such strain.

Of course when you think about it the lazy and greedy are being fed shite by the big corporations.

Just fill your food with addictive salt, sugar and shit and watch those profits roll in!

What a great bunch, everyone mixed well and got on.

Congrats to David for winning the big quiz with his knowledge of 80s pop making the difference, and to Lara for winning the "share pitch" session.

First night I made everyone my beef bourginon which seemed to go down well.

Last night was a meal at the local Spanish town.

Thanks to Elizabeth and Kalpesh for all their efforts

We ended with a bumper list of share trade ideas and some trades to be at the right price.

More on the financial side of it in the markets section.

As usual learned a lot about how investors think about a market and the fears and dreams that come with it.

Zipping round all the work groups and then doing solo work with people is a super challenge and I love it when a light bulb goes off with someone who didn't get something previously.

Wayne the cockerel though seemed to want to follow me around and decided every morning to stand outside my villa cock a doodle dooing.

However he became a proud dad and on the last day Mrs Wayne walked about with ten tiny chicks following her about.

Things to like about Majorca Vs UK :

Every restaurant/shop takes cash.

The speed limits are sensible.

People talk to each other instead of being on their phones.

Families go out and enjoy each other's company.

Little crime, no worries about phone snatching.

Roads are mainly great and pothole free.

Food is cheaper, so is fuel. Restaurants slightly cheaper.

No deliveroo drivers, lime bikes, or much junk food.

Independent restaurants and cafes serving mainly decent stuff (away from the airport).

Went to Palma and back on British Airways.

You always hope that it's improved but always, hopes are dashed.

We went "business class". In effect all it means is they block out the middle seat and you get some "food".

So for something like £250 more each you don't have someone else in your row.

The "food" consisted of three choices only one of which was available by the time they got to us and I asked for a tomato juice. "We don't have it today."

They didn't have the food or drink I wanted.

The captain decided despite the fact there was no turbulence at all to leave the seat belt sign on the whole trip.

That meant no hot drinks either.

A pilot friend said he'd "probably forgotten to turn the seat belt sign off".

On the way back we dumped business class.

I tried to buy something from the menu card which they "didn't have."

They didn't seem to have much at all.

Service was middling to crap. Back to Easyjet for shorthaul.

Though we did just book them for a trip to Dubai in November to visit our son.

That was only because their business class seats were £4,100 compared to Emirates' £6.400.

We'll risk it, after all we get a flat bed and better food and service on Emirates isn't worth paying an extra £2,300.

We hope for the best and expect the worst.

Anyhow, we should be doing another retreat sometime next year.

Places are limited to only ten and you need to apply for one, we chat to you and make sure it's right for you.

If you want to be on an interested email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "2026 retreats interested". We'll then put you on a list to contact next year and allocate places on a first come first served basis.
People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

https://tinyurl.com/mr3asr2x

If they ask my acc is burnsrobbieburns@aol.com.

I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.

He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.

You can hear be blabbing on about how I came to be a trader and suchlike.

https://zeuscapital.co.uk/adp-podcast/ scroll down to find the one with me.

Took the credit card tracker with me to Sri Lanka. Used it twice to locate where the cards were!

Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!

Link to the ones I bought:

https://amzn.to/40cyCTu

Put one in your passport wallet and one in your credit card wallet or purse.

Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard it on TV.

Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

https://soundcloud.com/thenakedtrader/ontv
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
"no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader@aol.com and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

" The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

"I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Whenever a government runs into trouble it often uses distraction techniques to get its problems off the front pages.

One of the better ones is the old "ID card" one.

It won't happen but it's divisive so a great talking point to distract from the awful state of things generally.

Can you imagine if it happened?

As we now know this bunch of jokers couldn't run the proverbial piss up in the brewery.

What could possibly happen when they get their hands on your details and those are on your phone?

When your phone gets snatched wave goodbye to your personal details.

How many seconds will pass before the database gets hacked (ten seconds?) and details of everyone get passed straight onto scammers.

Even funnier is the thought it will stop illegals.

They chuck all their ids in the sea already.

Anyhow it's never going to happen. It'll cost too much for not enough benefit. Just a distraction.

I wonder if every 5 years we'll just vote for a new party in hope that it just isn't the others.

I'm switching off for all these party "conferences".

It doesn't take much to realise mainly politicans are narcissists.

They want attention and applause, don't care about anyone but themselves.

If they were better looking they'd be actors.

A visit to the dentist, I pleaded for her not to say the "I" word. (Implant).

Sadly she did say it. This is payback time for all the years I ate twixes.

The implant itself isn't painful, just the cost.

Although she did say: "Taking that tooth out will be grim. You might be grumpy for two days."

Well, all set for it to go on November 5th.

No fireworks party for me.

Though if I load it on about how much I'm suffering I might get away without having to put the bins out.

Oh and Gursh, that falsie you put in for me ten years ago is still going!

Channel 4 has poached the Boat Race from the BBC.

How dare it!

Now I have to switch channels to watch a race between two rowing boats in which one takes the lead after two minutes, pulls away and wins easily.

Can't wait for the nailbiting drama of it all.

Didn't watch TV at all in Spain so just done a little catching up.

Task **** Sky

From the same team as "The Mayor of Easttown"

Not quite as good but a very nice slow burning story.

As binmen a trio find out who's dealing drugs from their waste and then raid the houses for money.

But one heist goes horribly wrong and the FBI is dispatched to find them.

Detailed background stories into the rogues and the good guys makes this a very interesting watch.

Blue Lights BBC 1 ****

Series two of the NI police drama continues to shine.

What puts it above similar dramas are the very funny lines.

There's a lot of decent humour here to match the dark bits.

The set pieces are very well executed too.

The Hack ITV **

As I was a journalist for many years I was looking forwards to this tale.

But it seems like a misfire. I gave up when David Tennant opened a door to a load of celebs doing weird cameos.

Can't say breaking the fourth wall worked either.

Also you keep thinking "This is David Tennant being David Tennant!"

Come on, give some unused actors a go, the same faces get very boring.

Maybe I'll come back to it, apparently episode 2 is totally different.

GEN V **** Amazon

The baby of "The Boys" is back with stories of young with superpowers.

Probably best to watch The Boys first.

It's a lot of fun and there are many scenes that are laugh out loud.

The soundtrack is decent too.

Alan Partridge is back this week as Alan becomes a mental health guru, let's hope it's funny!

An add on to the dentist tale.

The hygienist upstairs has what can only be described as a weird voodoo like doll of the practice boss.

It looks like him and his name is on it.

I did ask if she sticks pins in it if he tells her off.

Judged by her expression, I think it is possible.

I waved my hands at it and said "Give Naz a payrise."

Naz has promised me 10pc commission on any rise offered this week.

Hmmm, an NHS hospital online.

I wonder what the first message will be, let me guess:

"Error 404"?

New Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.

Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

Markets

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Had a great time at the retreat in Spain with many lovely people.

Interesting this time the majority (just!) were women!

Which is surprising given most traders are men but maybe not that surprising as women tend to be better at this than men.

Main reason? Women generally cut their losses fast while blokes stubbornly (ego?) refuse to sell losers as they feel it crystallises a mistake.

Indeed they tend to double down and buy more!

We noticed a lot of internet tipsters/commentators will almost always double down on a loss.

As usual learned a lot about how investors think about a market and the fears and dreams that come with it.

Elizabeth unearthed some interesting info during her psychology sessions.

Looking at how you were brought up and your parents' attitude to money tends to reveal how much fear or greed you have and how much risk or little risk you take. It is fascinating.

I don't actually get paid for it as the costs are so high though fair enough Kalpesh and Elizabeth do "" I do it as it's such a great challenge and I do learn a lot.

And it's also worth it for me because.. The event finds loads of great trade ideas and trades to be at the right price!
We unearthed shedloads of great trades (and future trades) both long and short and some spreadbetting range trades for shorter term income.

Zipping round all the work groups and then doing solo work with people is a super challenge and I love it when a light bulb goes off with someone who didn't get something previously.

Some lovely feedback, like this from Amanda: "I just wanted to say a big big thank you, honestly the weekend was so good for me and I feel so much more confident and learnt so much from you.

It was also so nice to get away, out of my comfort zone and mix with such lovely people and what a bunch of independent strong women there, inspiring! The quiz was such a good idea, a great icebreaker even though it must have been a lot of work for you. You both must be so exhausted from it all."

Well, with so many ideas there is no way I can present but a small amount here or else it's too much work for me, but here are a few of them and there'll be extra on the sub email.

Brave Bison came up a bit and I bought some of those.

Lots seems to be going for this trendy marketing outfit.

If it hits the forecast of £8m profit and a bit of cash it will begin to look rather cheap.

Lord Ashcroft who is a shrewd operator now has 24pc of the shares and bought more recently.

Also Downing Venture Capital bought as well.

It's buying up other companies and raised guidance for the next couple of years.

If it carries on like this, shares could with patience, easily have 50pc upside.

It's a small cap, so can get volatile if smaller investors get bored.

Overall looks a nice isa tuckaway and I expect to hold for a good while.

We did Dragon Den style "pitches" at the end of the retreat (I was playing a grumpy Deborah Meaden).

The winning pitch was Craneware.

Profits are growing substantially, though with a pe over 20 you do have to pay for it.

Makes it a bit on the risky side if it ever disappointed.

It has a big cash pile which is forecast to grow to over £100m.

It has Microsoft as a partner and is revolutionising healthcare in the US using some AI technology.

But probably the main reason for buying is bid interest.

It recently rejected a 2600p offer from Bains saying it was way too low.

Be no surprise if other bidders came in here especially as the US market values these types of companies very highly.

I'm going to sit and wait, though expect volatility.

Law groups are going very well and I got some Knights Group and Keystone Law having played with them both for profits previously.

Both shares are breaking out very nicely and two decent statements.

There is some excitement regarding the use of AI.

Keystone results were "comfortably ahead". Knights gave a bullish statement.

Knights has a pe of 7 and Keystone 20 mainly because Knights has a net debt pile while Keystone has cash.

The law sector of the market is under the radar and I wonder whether at some point if there'll be some bid action in the area.

On the debit side, both shares are at highs and need to break though the highs to gain further, and I'm happy to hold and wait on both.

Keystone went ex dividend (7p) today and Knights goes ex dividend next Thursday (3p).

Cordiant Digital Infrastructure popped up on a screen or two.

The Company's principal activity is investing in cloud and data centers, telecommunications towers, distributed sensor networks, and fiber-optic networks. It owns and operates digital infrastructure.

It in a trading range of 95-100 ish at the mo, looks worth a buy at the lower end of that.

Hard to weigh up the value it depends on the worth of its portfolio companies.

Directors have bought up a lot of shares recently which is a good sign.

Management seem sharp, it's one of those again to hold onto long-term and there's a very decent dividend while waiting.

I rarely buy shares that have dipped on warnings but bought a couple shorter-term for a likely bounceback, Pets At Home and On The Beach.

Sell off in both looked overdone with both suddenly looking rather cheap.

I topped up on Journeo which (of course) fell on results day.

Nearly every time now just wait for results day of a decent company, wait for the fall, wait a few days, then buy.

Same comment for YU group. Always falls on results day then a matter of waiting for th e turn and I added a few more.

Pays out a giant dividend which has been raised again.

I suspect investors get bored with it but it could surprise to the upside if it can use its cash pile well. They really ought to be rated at least 20pc higher.

I also bagged some more Cohort on weakness too.

Turning to a range trade that popped up at the retreat.. The idea is you can spreadbet a range trade for a long or a short because a share goes regularly between two points.

Easyjet was a good example. I have no idea how to place a value on it as there are too may variables

But it's gone from the mid 400s up to 600p several times.

Ie, you can buy in the mid 400s and then take profits at short at the 600 level.

So I have bought some but if buying or shorting a range beware of being in on a day of results or a statement in case it changes it!

With no likely statement till back end of November I'm giving the range a go but definitely out before results! Also I would be out if the range changed, say it started to drop below 420 or so.

Also Luceco came up as a range trade 118-150p ish.

Looks very cheap at the bottom of the range and too high once it gets to 150p.

Don't want to clog up the website with any more range trades, one or two more will be added into the sub email.

If you'd like sub details mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "sub mail interested".

I shorted Card Factory when results came out.

Though it's on a low pe, profits are down, debt is up and let's face it, people are sending less cards and I suspect even less this festive period.

Net debt is up again at nearly £80m and if you add in leases debt rises to a whopping £179m.

Some red flags are also raised on Stockopedia's earnings manipulations flag, failing two tests.

My view is shares are worth about 90p. It's very popular among investors so I suspect a "slagging" on some sites! (As they probably say on EastEnders).

I also shorted some more WPP as I think another profits warning is coming sooner or later.

Tightest spreads on these currently is TN

It also pays a small amount every night if you take out a short!

Link: https://tradenation.com/en-gb/naked-trader/

Onto sells.

SRBY spreadbet short went for a loss of £200 and took profits on NFC on results for a profit of £1,259

Data a profit of £206 part in the market and part in the tender offer.

Oxig was close to its usual top nearing 2000 so took profits of £396.

Spire has put itself up for sale which I am pleased about as I have a lot of them which I got many at a great price, somewhere in the mid 170s roughly.

I suspect a bid would have to be at 300p, or 330p with a bit of luck.

Of course maybe no-one wants it but there is big value in the properties, the company turned down a 315p bid a while back, this time it will accept!

A nice contract has been won by MS International, it's so under the radar but over the years ignoring any sudden moves has risen from a quid to 14 quid with some lovely dividends.

I intend to carry on holding for an eventual takeout. A further near-term catalyst for a further gain in MSI is the potential sale of its non core businesses which are up for sale.

So many investors have no patience!

The biggest winners are often those you hold for a few years. Let them build and grow.

Looking at MSI, with roughly £20m profit and net cash of £27m it looks cheap even after recent rises, and no reason why 2000p should not be reached.

Having held for years I was a bit surprised to see I now own more than £250,000 of MSI shares.

It's amazing the number of whiners and whingers there are on forums moaning their share went down a pence or two. Relax, if you are in a good one!

Talking good ones, a great report from MGNS today, what a wonderful share it's been and I regret selling half a while back.

Megp has become disappointing, no sign of a bid though bought most of mine at 72p and have had a lot of dividends. Even without a bid, surely looks cheap now?
Those on the sub email will be getting a couple of interesting higher risk ideas and some US stock ideas.. if interested in the sub email mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Sub mail interested."

Anyway, thanks again to those of you who came to the retreat.

We'll be running one or two retreats again next year so if you want to be on an interested email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "2026 retreats interested". We'll then put you on a list to contact next year and allocate places on a first come first served basis.

Probably be three days in May and three days in October.

So I am going to start building some shorts especially in the States.

I'm going to use spreadbets and also some ETF's in the isas but I feel I should be wary to discuss here on the website as it is dangerous and don't want to lead anyone up the garden path.

I'll discuss today to those of you on the sub email list who are generally more experienced.

Access to my sub email is just a once only payment (no yearly sub) and is mainly to cover its costs.

For info mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "sub email interested". I cover higher risk shares, and US shares and you get the website updates a little early straight to your inbox.

If you have some knowledge of shorting I find the smaller sb companies best, easier to contact and often much tighter spreads.

Big warning: before you spreadbet please read my spreadbetting book which takes you through the many potential pitfalls.

Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:

"Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.

But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.

I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

Mentoring

Monthly check up with Elizabeth the investment coach and I'll help too, email for details at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "mentoring interested".
Ian writes to say how much he enjoyed reading Little book of Bull Moves.

He says he realises some of what the book warns about is happening in the USA right now! I remember reading it a while back and thinking it was good.

Stockopedia Discount = Free Trial

https://www.stockopedia.com/nakedtrader/

People keep asking me which broker to use!

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.

if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

Spreadbetting

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Buy and read! Amazon link: https://amzn.to/46v2hcg

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

Amazon have them, link here: https://amzn.to/460qjeY

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here: https://amzn.to/3Z4VALw
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
