and that is NT5ROBBIE. Or Amazon has it! The audio version is out now! Go to and search for naked trader. Scroll down and make sure you download
edition 5, the one with me with a blue shirt on!
Well done, you made it! The most miserable day of the year has
just passed as has "divorce Monday" - if you have escaped
both those and feel fine, rest of the year will be a doddle!
If you didn't then - try the lottery you never know and well, there
are plenty of fish in the sea!
The February seminar sold out fast and a while back now, and sorry for those
of you I had to turn away but I have added an extra date which
is March 9th.
The waiting list for Feb is full too so I am afraid
March is the only date now. (Very flattered or I am not
charging enough!)
I've been very surprised at the massive interest in the spreadbet
seminar, I was expecting not much and maybe not enough to
run it at all but unbelievably it isn't far off sell out!
Anyway can't wait to see you all on Feb 7th - make yourselves
feel at home in the room and even though every seat is taken
there should be plenty of elbow room.
Lots of lovely snacks and food lined up for you all, tea and coffee
is on full time outside whenever you want it. If you are a bit
late do not worry, you will be guided in! Once in the hotel turn
left up the small stairs and register.
Remember to give your reg number to reception before you go
for the free parking. Don't forget no question is ever "stupid" -
and I hope we get through lots of live share dealing. Thanks
for those of you who filled out the questionaires and it has given
me a great insight into what you are all after from the day. Notes
should follow in a day or two after anyway will send you all
an email tomorrow with more stuff.
Now Xmas has gone I am surveying a pile of well meaning gifts
that I'm not sure what to do with.
The Mrs has enough scented candles to last two lifetimes, so we're
thinking of setting up a pop up scented candle shop.
Meanwhile, I also have enough Hotel Chocolat posh chocolate to set
up my own store too.
Literally nearly every gift that came through was those. The real problem
is: I don't really like them! They all taste the same to me whatever flavour
and well, they just don't cut it. I'm a plain and simple twix guy.
Whenever I've eaten a Hotel one, I think I wish that had been a twix.
It's probably because there is more chocolate than in Twix and I
am really just after the sugar and the biscuit crunch.
But I do like some of the M and S boxed chocolates. I figure with
chocolates I simply don't go for "quality".
Just when I thought people like spreadbet firms had stopped sending them
I got back from holidays to discover a package had been sent from
the hotel I do the seminars with.
I thought.. it can't be... oh it is, yet more Hotel chocolat. I can't even
re-gift as some of them are "Xmas wreaths" or have Xmas written
on them. Or the chocolates are called "Holly and the Ivy" etc.
On top of all that I got bottles of champagne. I hate champagne! I like
Baileys!! And a bottle of Port. Who on earth drinks port? I am a
Baileys guy.
And one of those Fortnum hampers. I groaned. That means another
massive box with loads of messy straw in I'll need to get rid of and now
I have stuff I don't want nor does anyone else.
Chai tea? Ugh!
Pomegranite chutney? And salted caramel things. Impossible
to re-gift and I hate to throw the stuff away but?
I know I sound ungrateful.
But now what do I do to those that will
doubtless repeat these gifts next year. "You know those chocolates
you sent me the last two years, I don't like them please stop. I wasn't
man enough to tell you I didn't like them last time."
I've decided in September to mail all senders and suggest they
don't send me anything and instead donate to the silver line
charity which I support and I make phone calls to the lonely elderly.
At least then some good comes of it. I've decided to take the
pile of Hotel Choc chocs to the seminar where I can palm them
off to delegates pretending I'm being magnanimous.
Hang on you don't think they read this website do they?
(I had a look at HC shares - but they look overrated to me).
One of my two lovely cats, Jacob (I don't use my cats names
as security questions fyi) has turned teenager and decided for the
first time to venture beyond the garden to chase pigeons. He has
no chance of getting one at all as he is a totally rubbish hunter.
But he disappeared and later in the day we heard some desperate
miowing.
He was high up in a massive bush trapped in... a bird's nest!
I had no hope of getting him down. But what do you do? Phone 999
and ask the fire service out? Or what?
Luckily my teenager had just arrived home. He managed somehow to
climb up this massive bush and grabbed Jacob.
Jacob hasn't been out since then. But as a teen I suspect he will
try and do it again. They never learn do they?
Lucky old me had to trek across London last night to go and
watch Fulham play Charlton.
I really wish I hadn't had to go but sacrificed myself for my son.
It's got to be the most boring game I have ever seen. The home team
dug in for a 0-0 and got it. Considering how much these players are
on the lack of any spirit on both sides was alarming.
The stadium has a nice feel to it and I got a lovely seat at the front. Only
thing was the photographer close to me kept moving his lens towards
me anytime my eyes closed which was often. He was looking for
asleep fan shows how dull this game was."
On the way back on the train we met up with my son's friend and his
father who is very interesting. A Fulham director he gave me some
fascinating insights into the running of football clubs and how different
they all are.
He went to school with Mike Ashley and has been in retail himself for
30 years so we had a great discussion on the various retailers! And a
lot more besides but obviously a private chat so say no more. Lovely
guy.
Great to meet so many lovely people at the last seminar.
Lots of different ages, races, faces and occupations.
From a journo writing a book on Fake News, to a builder, a kids
book author, a clutter clearer helper, a pilot, anyone and everyone!
Sounds from the feedback you all enjoyed the day, the Xmas lunch,
the mini breakfasts and we ran out of hot chocolate!
Caterina said: "Thanks for the comprehensive notes, no fluff just the way
I like my info. Thanks to you and Elizabeth for a fabulous day. Outside the
trading info the food was great, hot drinks on tap and the extra goodies you
surprised us with all day. That's the way to run a seminar!"
Thanks Caterina and the other kind comments. Good luck to all of you.
I was amazed to see nearly everyone still there as we were heading towards
8pm! Hope you enjoyed the "reward". It was great to meet some more
of you after and to sign some books.
I wish you all the very best at the start of your trading life (some of you). And
sounds like I might see some of you again at a follow up event in March
Of course it's nice to get comments just after but even better after a while. For example this from Chris:
The seminar well exceeded my expectations. I learnt a ton about trading, keeping it simple and it has given me the confidence to cut some positions. I reinvested the proceeds in a spread account and new isa and the results from using your process are exemplary!
If you'd like to come to the next one it is March 9th, see above.
Naked Rambling
Apparently some guy from some dysfunctional family and his
wife have quit the family business.
They already have millions apparently and frankly can't be
arsed to work anymore.
Frankly I can't blame them. I'd get the hell out too!
Anyone finding the Labour leadership thing really tedious?
It will take till April. No wonder we didn't vote for them to
run the country if they can't even pick a leader in good time.
Looks like it will probably be Keir Starmer who is ok but not
exactly a worldbeater.
If I was a Labour centrist I'd be plotting a split. This country just
won't vote hard left. Why doesn't "Momentum" just split off and
fight an election leaving a sensible Labour party to be a decent
opposition.
In the meantime, as a remainer myself I am happy to give Boris J
a chance here and let's see where we are in five years. Let's all
pull together, make the best of Brexit and get on with trying
to make the country prosper.
HS2? I think I would pull it on the basis surely if it is going to
take 20 years then by then a new fast transport technology
could already render it obsolete?
I believe within 100 years we won't need cars or planes to move
around - there will be a new form of moving around we haven't
visualised yet. But is is coming!
The Trial of Christine Keeler (*****)
Best episode so far which centered on the very unlucky
Stephen Ward. The poor guy just wanted some fun but was
set up as the fall guy by the powers that be.
It was beautifully acted by all. The time shifts can be a slight
pain but apart from that a slice of history brought to life. Love
the cars!
Cobra (***) I've always been sniffy about Sky One things thinking
they are probably crap but Temple was good and this one is
pretty entertaining.
About a Tory Government facing a power blackout to some areas for
weeks and what it does about it. Lots of sub plots and
political plots.
It's not exactly subtle and you really have to buy into it and ignore
all the plot holes and things that simply wouldn't happen in real
life. Ignore all that and it is pretty entertaining - and hardly any time
shifts.
I think anything with time shifts should be banned from now on. Too
much now!
Hurrah! The best comedy of all time Curb Your Enthusiasm
is back with a new series next week.
It's the only comedy ever that literally gets me on the floor in
hysterics with my fave being the last bit of the last episode of
series three with the tourettes chef. Too much! We
rewatched this episode last night and I was in such hysterical
laughter my son thought I'd gone bananas.
It's an acquired taste probably but if you love it, you love it! Featuring
the writer of Seinfeld as the main character who says everything
he thinks without worrying about it leading to brilliant situations.
I often think when I'm out "that would make a brilliant plot idea
for Curb". It's really all about Larry's attitude to the really small
irritating things in life and really annoying people.
Start from series one if you never saw it, you are very lucky!
Would you believe it Captain Picard is about to hit the screens again!
Years after Star Trek Next Generation finished he is back. Next Gen
I reckon was easily the best series and I loved it back in the 90s. I
looked forwards to the 5pm showings on Sky One!
You have to worry though if it will be any good and whether he
should have left the character where it ended. As a person
Patrick Stewart is quite "right on" and it could be all a bit
righteous. Anyway I am looking forwards to seeing it and hope
it will be decent. I'll report back with thoughts next time. It's
on Amazon from tomorrow.
Headline: "Morrisons culls 3,000 managers to put more staff
on food counters."
May I suggest wouldn't it be great to see this headline instead:
NHS culls 3,000 managers to put more staff on the wards".
SEMINAR NEWS
MARCH 9 near Heathrow (Feb 7 date is sold out)
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "March seminar interested". There
is a decent early bird discount on offer.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:
He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

MARKETS
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
Well, isn't it a lot nicer now than before the election?
Remember then? All the worries and the panic over a
hard left government.
And isn't it nice that the Brexit stuff doesn't come up so often
and at last we have a "strong and stable" government?
Of course the market will always find things to panic about - yes
folks the latest panic is over a virus from China.
I don't know how many times over the years we've had this and
these viruses never end up with us turning into a zombie
apocalypse. Cripes, did I spell that right the first time without
looking it up? Not sure. Will take a chance. Please don't mail
me if wrong though.
So if the markets weaken on virus fears it is probably a buy.
And what's to lose anyway? If it is a zombie thing money won't matter
anymore. It will be a question of running away from your neighbour
who fancies eating you now he looks like the Night King
from Game of Thrones. (Or does he look that way normally?)
By the way if you ever get seduced into "technical analysis" by
someone out there with all the jargon and the lines and the
indicators and the macd flashing crosses that it really all is
total bollocks. I am just saying before you waste any time from
your already short life.
Anyone telling you it is the bees knees and it works is either trying
to sell you a system, trying to get views for twitter or a website,
or wants some publicity for whatever reason.
Want proof? No-one makes money from trading indices etc by using
TA over time. Thank me when you find yourself enjoying more time
with your favourite hobby than wasting time reading BS!
Just buy good companies going well, sell bad ones going badly
and ignore all the stupid oil, commodity, bitcoin, penny shares
and you'll do fine!
Draper Esprit (GROW) came up at the follow up seminar just before Xmas
and I really liked it. The problem really was getting some at a good price.
Problem was the spread was quite wide then and so every so
often I put in a DMA order to try and buy at the sell price.
Eventually that paid off and I got a good price!
It's a strange one for me - it's one of those whose share price is
traded depending on its Net Asset Value - it's really a venture
capital vehicle and gives me a bit of exposure to small tech
companies around Europe.
It there companies go well the share price should grow nicely with the NAV
and vice versa. So you have to put your faith in the hands of
those evaluating potential investments.
For me, it's a longer-term isa tuckaway and see how it goes,
I think it has potential to do very nicely.
Meat is bad, vegan is good is the current feeling so it seemed sensible
to short meat and buy vegan - at least for the short-term as it
could all just be a fad, who knows.
So I bought Vegan with one of my occasional ventures into the US market and
bought some "Beyond Meat".
The name surely tells you what you need to know! It produces
plant based meat substitutes to chicken, beef and pork sausages.
And I'm not the only one to spot the potential, its shares are exploding
like a mother in law who has eaten too many sprouts.
I bought few shares in it for the isa and some in a spreadbet. It's
bonkers volatile as impossible to value and is a "jam tomorrow"
share. Is jam vegan? That means I don't expect to hold onto it for
that long - so my cunning plan is to keep raising a stop a long
way behind the price, and that stop is already in profit. Please don't
try and follow me into this or anything it's madly volatile (can be minus
or plus 10% in seconds)
Talking pork sausages I have shorted a meat company - Devro. (DVO)
To newbies shorting means betting on it to go down via a spreadbet.
Well,
not a meat company exactly but it provides the vile stuff that goes
round a sausage. With meat sales falling an a huge debt a short
I already have in it has paid handsomely but it looks like this
one has further to fall. Looking for about 130-40p.
So there we are let's see if my attempt to buy vegan and
short meat works!
I've bought two rather under the radar small companies that don't
attract that much interest, I kind of like these ones. They both
appear cheap and both have good prospects but simply don't
appear to get noticed.
These are the kinds of companies you can stick away and forget about
to one say wake up to a bid or a mail tip and you get your 20-30%.
First is The Mission Group (TMG). A totally overlooked (a bit like
Kape was) marketing company which is right at the bottom of the
market cap range I am happy to deal in.
It kind of most of the time sits around not doing much, it hasn't got any
mates in the market and probably sits around most of the day
on its phone looking at silly videos.
But.. its fundamentals look pretty decent and its rating is low which
leaves plenty of potential upside when it is discovered. It's one of
those that you're in and you think "is it ever going to bloody move" then
the day after you sell it from boredom there's a bid!
Its share price is on the rise this week after a decent trading update. It
expects to be debt free by year end, and reading between the lines
election uncertainty wasn't great for business but now things are
on the move again. If that's right the next update could see some
major upside.
Another interesting off the radar share is Concurrent Tech (CNC) . This
one looks very cheap to my eye and there was a very promising
statement this week with revenues slightly ahead.
It makes high-end embedded computer products within various industries
including the harsh environment market.
Both Concurrent and Mission appear low risk for now - we know things
are fine with both so a profits warning looks unlikely but with potential
upside surprises possible these are the kind of shares I love to
tuck away for the isas.
I added some more GB Group (GBG) on weakness - already made
more than £100,000 on this over the years - it always has a period
of weakness and so far it has always been worth getting more on
the weakness.
It has a very sweet spot in the ID authentication field - it does mean
it is highly rated but I think the rating is deserved.
The portfolio has continued to climb recently - not anything like the
pre Xmas rocket but decent nonetheless.
Lots of lovely big winners and for now rather than take profits I'll
take a chance and keep running them for now.
The recent shorts have really paid off with falls from Restaurant
Group and Card Factory.
Great gains from shares like Kape, Gan, Ten Entertainment, Hollywood
Bowl, XP Power, TP Group, Cohort, Avon Rubber, SDI among
others.
Given I would probably still buy any of the above despite rises it seems
sensible to carry on holding for more gains for now.
Of course if the zombies take over I'll have sold hopefully. I should
be ok. Given the strength of the weed being smoked by my
neighbours they will be way too stoned to bother attacking
me.
Next update will be Feb 13th - a week later than usual -
it makes more sense to have it after the seminar than
just before so I can report back on all the trades that
came up on the day. See some of you on the 7th and
the rest here on the 13th with trade news and more.
(Unless the zombies take over in which case I'll be hiding
behind the sofa)

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
