Wow. What a crazy couple of weeks. Did all that really happen in such
a short time?

Our lives have changed for a while and it all feels like a bit of a dream
and not sure our brains can catch up yet.

Everything is changing so quickly it is hard to keep up.

How can it be just two weeks ago I was in a hotel with a group of you
running a seminar and now it would be illegal!

I mean, we were even in a bar, chatting face to face, laughing and joking!

Now it is not possible. Amazing - so fast!

Given current
lockdowns all seminars are moved online for now - though I have
one or two of you who only want it in the hotel and will be back
with those as soon as they let me!

So the beginner improver one is now a zoom video seminar with me
on Wednesday April 15th 10am-5pm (all you need is a computer to join!).

And there is pent up demand for another spreadbetting one, That's
on April 8th 10am-5pm. Venue for both is your place!!

For those who have not used zoom before Mrs NT will contact those of you
need a tutorial the day before the events taking you through it live. It is
surprisingly easy!

Mail me for details on both/either. For the SB one you ought to know
already how to buy to sell shares so not for total beginners.

Mail to robbiethetrader with either "Sb interested" or "Apr
interested" . There will be a discount if you want to attend both.

I can't host as many online as a hotel one or screens get too crowded
so if you want to book it don't hang about! If you would still rather a hotel
event let me know and will put you on a list of interested for hotel only
once the virus effs off.

I managed to move the follow up seminar online - and it worked
really well.

We used zoom video which is really amazing technology. It was a bit weird
at first but easy to get used to.

I miss the quick banter I'd get at a normal seminar but we got a lot done, it
was easy for people to talk and ask questions with Elizabeth on hand to
sort out any tech problems and making sure the questions got to me.

I knew a lot of participants from previously as it was a follow up and it
was strange seeing all on my screen at one time!

Thanks for all your feedback for the first online event, it has all been good and
thanks for your patience on the tech side. We actually only had one small period
when we were offline. This was due to me pulling out my chair and disconnecting
my computer. I have already decided not to do that again!

Also thanks to four of you who did a test run for me on the Sunday it was so
helpful.

I expect some of you have had the virus now and I am hoping it wasn't
too bad.

So far myself and family have not had it - it is odd being locked up isn't it
though!

Our biggest risk is our teenager. Clean hands up for anyone who can get
a teenager to wash their hands regularly!

Anyway we keep washing hands, disinfecting and try not to go out except
for the odd walk and a trip to the shops.

The worst time to get it will be in the next two weeks, if you get it badly
you could end up at a makeshift hospital. Stay away from others!

It is still impossible to get any loo rolls around here. I think we have three
left. I'll be using old copies of The Times after that! In fact I may start
now and let Mrs NT bag the last three rolls.

There isn't much of a problem getting hold of food though annoyingly the
cat who used to be happy with dried food has now decided he only
wants the most expensive wet food.

Typical bloody selfish cat.. but ooh look he looks so cute and....

Our son's school is now online and he "goes to school" from 9am on
the laptop. It is all pretty amazing - what an effort the teachers are
putting in.

Hosting online teaching is quite tiring as I learned having done my
first online seminar as you have technology to deal with as well
as the teaching and being right on the computer all day is tough.

But well done all schools who are managing to do this and the
dedicated teachers.

I am so glad I do my volunteer calls to the elderly.

I knew I really cheered Vera up with my call. Vera hates being
stuck indoors, she always manages to get out and get a bus
to meet a friend once or twice a week and finds it hard
now she can't.

She says she is a little bit scared by it all but says the second world
war was a whole lot scarier!

Obviously she worries if she gets it, it might be a death sentence. Still
she reckons she is fit for her age.

Sadly I feel the current lockdown is going to lead to lots of mental
health problems especially those who were borderline.

Being inside all day can trigger all kinds of depression I would imagine.

We are in regular touch with the elder lady who lives close to us and
offering support.

Perhaps the virus in the end will bring out the best in us.

I am frankly terrified of getting it - I hate being sick. Weirdly I kind
of feel jealous of those who have had it - it must be nice to think
Yeah, immune now!"

So I wonder whether soon for a while we will have a two tier society with
those who have had it more valuable than those who haven't.

This is where testing would be so valuable. If you could get a certificate
saying you had it you can return to work surely.

Maybe restaurants etc could start to open with only customers and staff
who have had it allowed in! Or does that sound like a sci fi drama?

After peak virus will those who haven't had it be frowned upon?

Over Easter I hope to do a morale boosting lively virus bashing and shares
podcast.

Contributions welcome. How are you coping with being inside? Did you get
the virus, if so what happened?

What are you doing to fill the time at home? Have you tried a new hobby?

Is it making you re-evaluate your life? Any tips for keeping kids amused?

Looking for silly Virus songs and £50 for the best idea. For example "Fever" Peggy
Lee. "I Predict a Riot". "Feeling Hot Hot Hot".

Funniest idea wins. I hope you don't think that idea is too silly but surely
we need some fun in our lives in these dire times?

Mail me with "Pod contribution". Voice files also welcome on MP3 format

Thanks for all the nice feedback re the last seminar.
Of course it's nice to get comments just after but even better after a while. For example this from Chris:

The seminar well exceeded my expectations. I learnt a ton about trading, keeping it simple and it has given me the confidence to cut some positions. I reinvested the proceeds in a spread account and new isa and the results from using your process are exemplary! "

Naked Rambling

Is there any good news to come out of the virus?

Well, maybe. Perhaps gives us all time to have a rest and think.

Get off that busy treadmill and wonder what our lives are about?

Perhaps some people are now truly happy they can relax at home.

One thing the virus has brought out is the caring nature of us UK
folk.

Look at how many have volunteered bravely for the NHS.

And indeed we can but marvel at the incredible hard work and
bravery of those working in hospitals. What fantastic
people.

Politicians seem to have to work together for a change. They are being
nice to each other.

I personally would not like to be in charge now, would you? And I for one am
glad the current lot are in charge as I can't imagine what Jezza would have
been up to, or not.

I think patience is really needed. We just can't expect them to come up with
everything immediately.

I guess this is a time to get through some boxsets. If you have not seen the
classics suggest Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and Game of Thrones.

Dragons Den (***)
Definitely a "fast forward" show now. It all feels a bit slow. I tend to watch the
pitch then just forward through to when offers are or not being made. Peter Jones
for the first time seems to be losing interest. There are still some interesting ideas
but too man food and drink pitches - any fool will tell you not to invest in
these ideas in overcrowded markets with little margin.

Hunted (***). Another bit of a fast forward. Fun though it feels a touch
scripted" in that you feel the hunters could probably have caught them all
really. The marriage proposal was a bit of a stunt!

The End (***). I have a love hate with this. It's a comedy drama about when life
should end if you are terminal. Plus a sub plot about a gender change kid. Not bad
but not sure too!

Curb (*****)
Boo, it is all over will there ever be another season of the genius comedy? Latte
Larry Vs Mocha Joe was all priceless. You have to hand it to Larry: who wouldn't agree
with a no defecation policy and mugs that keep the coffee hot?

Lots of lovely sub plots and observations. Making sure dropping off the wife at
an airport is not done with too much glee was hilarious!

The Stranger (****)
Continues to be entertaining on Netflix. Some nice writing and decent
performances and lots of what happens next moments.

Westworld (****)
I got cheesed off with this in the last series but was curious about the
new one and it was surprisingly good!

The crazed head robot is now out of the park and out for revenge. The
bloke from Breaking Bad looks like he will team up with her. Some
fun sequences with an imagined world a bit in the future. (Doesn't seem
to be a virus) . It's quite fun to see psycho robot kicking out.

Oh dear. Those of you with lots of hair are going to have to get a friend
to cut it.

This is going to cause us baldies endless amusement.

Right, got a car bootsale to do.

I have a toilet roll on offer at £100. And some hand gel for £250.

Any offers?

Some recent feedback:

He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
I really thought after full-time trading since 2001 I had seen everything. Booms,
busts, bank bailouts, terrorist events and I was confident there was nothing
new on the way, after all how could there be?

But I have to hand the award to 2020. It's been a total (add all your favourite
swear words here).

And the last two weeks has been the most crazy, volatile and mad two weeks
in the history of the market.

Fear, lots of it - and then the last two days greed. Everyone piling in and
piling out - suddenly all and sundry are in and out as it heaves up, down,
up, and down.

On Monday it was disaster, now all is ok says the markets. I'm not sure
that can be right though I hope so.

It is so bonkers that if you get lucky you could have made a lot, if you didn't
you could have lost a lot getting it wrong both ways.

Or you could have somehow been somewhere in the middle. It has swept
up and down causing earthquakes to the investor community.

Ok, you could take any view of this.

Bullish: Prices are way too low, the virus will be over soon, companies
will get back on their feet so buy now! And Trump says everything
will be fine by Easter.

Bearish: Virus will get worse and even when it is over a lot of companies
will be a bust and the world takes a long time to get back on its feet
after all the bailouts.

Or me: Not sure - maybe somewhere in the middle of it all but
perhaps slightly to the bearish side?

Overall because we literally do not know yet and there is so much guesswork involve I actually think it is time to chill out a bit and wait and see what
happens.

Problem is if you don't is the fear of missing out thing. Oh no, why
didn't I buy earlier, I don't want to miss out.

Why didn't I buy this that or the other at such low prices etc.

Just stop worrying! I'm going to trade very lightly indeed until things
sort themselves out.

If you managed to sell a lot of your stuff in time, you should have banked
some nice profits. So relax. I am going to chill out in the garden with
a sign saying "Keep two metres away" What's that in yards anyway?

If you are a beginner why not take it slowly. I think no rush to do much
for the moment. Markets are always there. There are always trades
there. At the moment any trade up or down could be a costly error.

The problem of course right now is how the hell can you put a value on a company
when it is shut and we don't know when it might open?

What happened to me? As I mentioned in the last two updates I sold all or a lot
of pretty much everything and sold a bit more leaving me with a few odds
and sods, mainly the strongest ones.

The FTSE shorts were going very well indeed but I had
carefully used stops to make sure I wouldn't be caught with my shorts down
should the market spike up as those who were present at my online
follow up seminar on Monday saw.

As indeed online delegates could see from my accounts I had made many
hundreds of thousands from shorting the ftse.

(There are two new online seminars you can attend from home with me as your host for the day while I can't do the hotel - April 8th for
spreadbetting and April 15th for beginners and improvers - see above
or below for more details)

As it began to rocket up, my stops gradually took me out of the shorts
which means I didn't make as much as if I had got out at the bottom
but still some very generous gains were banked and indeed to be on the
safe side I withdrew some big sums from my SB accounts yesterday
and put them straight into national savings accounts which are fully
backed by the govt up to £2 million.

On the day of the online seminar I also nibbled at a few tempting
longs but I didn't really buy that much and so far missed out on
the juicy gains offered across the board. But as I said, I don't mind,
opportunities will always happen and it could be a dead cat bounce.

New problems now present in deciding to buy something or not.

Do you chase the recent rises or not?

I think the best plan right now is to ensure you only buy companies with tiny
debt but preferably only those with big cash piles.

So a couple of nibbles for me.

First was Computacentre (CCC) We discussed this one at the online follow up
seminar and I bought a few live with a stop loss.

I have since raised that stop under the price as it has been going up

People are going to be a lot more interested
in laptops etc which the company says is good news for it.

It has a very long history of improving profits and it appears to be run very well and
was very strong when we looked at level 2 on it at the online seminar.
Then it said it is in talks with BT to buy its French operations. This
could be a good time to do this perhaps getting a better price than
might have been the case during stronger markets.

All in all, this is a definite one I am happy to tuck away at a much reduced
price! I am keeping the stop well away from the price but currently
nicely above break even.

I realised when I spent money buying Zoom Video system to run the online
seminars, well, I really ought to buy shares in it.

The shares of course have zoomed up. So many are turning to it and using
it now they have to be at home.

I found it easy to use on the whole and it works well.

So I bought the shares a couple of times. (US: Zoom). Of course they are highly
rated and could come down to earth with a bump.

But stops are in at over break even now. I don't really like buying US
shares, some brokers won't even allow them but some do. You have
the dollar translation thing etc but on this occasion I thought why
not buy a company that I need to use its services?

A defensive idea is Telecom Plus. (TEP)I have had them in a share certificate forever
in fact since 1998 and 2000 when my first lot was bought at 18p ! So they
have stayed in the drawer paying me 5% or more over the years with
some lovely cheques coming in twice a year enough to pay all the household
bills and more.

Given it's utilities it is quite defensive and the dividend looks safe. Possible
problem? Maybe people will stop paying their bills but most put utilities
at the top of the must pay list.

I would also imagine it is one of the few shares that could maintain the dividend.

And I have added more Avon Rubber which is currently my biggest holding.

it just keeps on winning orders for its masks and has just won another
decent order.

One of the few shares that has kept most of its value during the virus
crisis. I suppose as a company that makes masks...

We discussed Qinetic (QQ.) at the seminar - looks like one of the
strongest shares on the market.

Its defence area looks to have a lot of, erm.. defensive qualities!

There is plenty to like here and I think despite the virus it could be
quite a decent one.

I am sitting on massive profits on a whole load of share shorts and it is getting
tempting to bank some of them. I may sell half of all of them. I have now
taken profits on the Pets short (over £1,500).

Most have more than halved. For example I shorted the AA at 150p and it is
sitting at 19p now. There actually isn't much more profit to be made out of it
and if it went bust it might take three months to get the profits out. (It has
a massive debt)

The latest short, Carnival has made more than £10,000 for the site but
possibly further to come.

I got out of a few more bits and pieces with some nice profits (though not
as much as if had got out earlier) will
get the webmaster to just put them on the trades table over the weekend.

My position overall now is mostly cash and biased to the short side
with the shorts.

I am literally going to take it easy, sit and wait for a bit to see which way the
wind blows.

I don't get FOMO - perfectly happy to buy away from the bottom as if things
recover there will be plenty of time to make gains.

So I will take it very slowly - the next 3-4 weeks will be quite revealing.
Everything hinges on when things can return to be normal and it
could be longer than we think.

All the best to you and yours till I next update - if the update doesn't happen
then I probably have the virus and will be back (hopefully) when
I recover as there seems to be a good chance of getting it.

Remember if you are at home without your usual work try not to overtrade
and become a day trader - it might end up being a disastrous move
for your mental health. Beware.

Overall - if in doubt - do nowt.

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
