It's been a crazy time - out all the time.. end of school things,
Wimbledon, summer parties, racing, family events. And two seminars-
more on those in a minute.
Anyhow for now the website (ie me) is off for its summer break and returns in September.

I can't give an exact date because we might head off somewhere in the first
half to cry ourselves to sleep as our son heads off to boarding
school. It's only weekly boarding but they keep them locked away
for the first weekend.

He passed his exams which I was pleased about until I got the bill for
his next five years at school. £187,000.

Phew. Indeed. I raided some of the isas and a lot of the spreadbetting accounts
to raise the money, wrote that amount on one of those old fashioned cheque things (you just try transferring that amount online and see how far you get before the hassle starts).

If I hadn't paid for the five years upfront I would have ended up paying over £200,000.
So I have saved myself quite a bit by taking the early pain.

They give you a decent discount for money up front. If you can afford it and you are soon to send your offspring to expensive schools ask about "Payment in Advance" discount schemes.
Most of them do it.

Also, let's face it, I am basically a professional gambler, what I do is risky so it is a comforting thing to do, and if anything happened to me also nice to know he is
sorted till he's 18.

And if Corbyn gets in (sell everything and go short if he does) he'll immediately
bung vat on fees so I'll also have avoided splashing out another 40k.

What a school though. I know it's a lot and I'm lucky to be able to do it.

We went to an afternoon there with all the new parents over an amazing lunch in a fab marquee in lovely grounds. Oh, food made by students in the school's cookery department.

And ps, would your son like to sign up for tennis coaching, drama and music lessons? How's about flying? Archery? And get this: clay pigeon shooting!

Is my son happy about this? He is more worried he's going to miss going to some Fulham FC games.

I'm jealous. I admit it. I wish I was 13 and could go there. He gets to play in their amazing football teams too. They have only 2 or 3 to a room.

When I started school I was left to fend for myself in a massive room with 40 beds in it. And it was horrible.

Here you even have a full-time "welfare" counsellor.

What's more they don't even focus so heavily on passing exams treading the well worn path to university.

They let boys examine all kinds of other options like going into business. Fantastic.
Sadly a lot of kids his age might end up in a few years not getting jobs because the jobs they would have got will be done by robots.

I'm hoping from 18 my son will be in business, think up some great ideas which I can back. Our first thought is to buy out the local five aside football centre. We reckon we could triple profits there.

Anyhow when he heads off in September it will be strange not having him around.

Mrs NT will be upset and so I'm thinking of taking her abroad somewhere in that first
bit. That's why I can't give you an exact date for the next update here except
it will be September.. sometime!

Great to see so many lovely people at both the beginners/improvers
and the follow up seminar.

At the beginners towards the end the conversation turned towards the
world cup football.

I said, "gentlemen we had better stop. The ladies in the room are already
thinking stop!"

I shouldn't have been so stereotyping. One of the lady delegates immediately
disagreed saying she loved it all.

She then carried on giving some incisive and detailed analysis of the
games so far and the teams ! So there, Mr Burns!

Big thanks to Colin the Crisps and Robin the organic for their senses of
humour!

Some lovely feedback coming in so thanks for all that - here's one or two:

Considering it's a lot of money to spend on a single day, and the fact that I can learn and retain info from books perfectly well, I reckoned if I learned only one significant new thing from the seminar that would boost my trading - it would be worth it. Well, having had such an informative day yesterday (and a bag of laughs) I couldn't possibly point to only one thing. Although Robbie won't give advice, he is so generous with his knowledge and the live research and trading demonstrations throughout the day is priceless! !

And:

After following your work for some years it felt so special to finally meet you in person.

Thank you so much for your incredible patience at explaining the elementary concepts to us beginners.

I absolutely loved level 2 and spread betting though I will definitely need your notes handy before I attempt my first shorting...

My desk neighbours were also delightful and interesting. The food was delicious and the snacks super refreshing.

Everybody's questions added a deeper understanding of what was being discussed and I found it educational and selfishly consoling to hear about other people's bad experiences..

It was a perfect day and even towards the end, when I was becoming aware of how much we had covered, you remained patiently focused and funny."

Thanks to you all for coming. l look forwards to meeting those of you booking
onto the September 24th event which will be the next. If you want to come email me at
robbiethetrader with "Sep seminar interested".

OCT 15TH OVERFLOW/EXTRA SEMINAR NEWS

Lovely to see so many returners at the follow up and all doing so well. Congrats
to Ava for best idea of the day. Thanks to you all for your wonderful homework
and five of you have booked the next follow up already, see you Oct 5th. If
you have been to a seminar before and want a follow up on Oct 5th mail
me at robbiethetrader with "follow up interested".

It's been a packed time for events. Tonight it is the end of term party.

Cue much crying and angst. It has been such a lovely group of kids
and parents and it's sad to see them go separate ways.

But, we must move on in life or we'd never get anywhere would we?

Yesterday we had a lovely day at Wimbledon tennis watching three
games on centre court.

The games were really all one sided as it was seeds against non
seeds.

Federer is just awesome. He pasted the poor guy opposite him. And
Serena Williams amazing too. Though she did look totally knackered
towards the end and panting heavily.

Lovely atmosphere as always there. Strawberries are amazing this
year and only £2.50 for strawberries and cream, not bad!

At the weekend the three of us went on a night time bus tour of London.

It was great fun and learned a lot of interesting facts about our
great city.

As Mrs NT is hooked on her mobile like most people I encouraged her to
leave it behind.

What if there is an emergency?" she asks. (That's what all those hooked
on the infernal machines say).

There won't be one. Is there ever?" I suggest.

She leaves it and as she admits, had a better time without lugging it about.

I think these devices cause stress to people whenever they beep and if you're
doing something enjoyable take you away from "The Moment".

I strongly suggest to all of you hooked on them. if it's not needed for work
don't take it to social or other events.

Leave it behind and enjoy less stress, being in the moment, talking
to people again and in effect, kicking away a crutch you don't need.

Trust me: You'll thank me!

Naked Rambling

What a world cup!!

Even my 88-year-old lady who I talk to on behalf of charity has suddenly
got interested.

She's started watching every game and I had to explain the rules,
though neatly sideswiped the need to explain offside.

Who'd have thought so many big teams would be knocked out
so early?

Given the surprises I am quite surprised that my three bets are still running and
even better all in profit!

My (nice) problem is whether to take profits in them now.

Bookies these days let you "cash out" bets at a profit. Not as much as if your
bet actually won but they offer about half profits to close a potentially very
profitable bet down.

Uruguay is the biggest problem. It's been a great bet as I got 33-1

I can cash out now for roughly £700 profit.
But.. if they win the next the profit would rise to over a grand. Get into the
final it rises to £1,500 and if they won it you're talking over 2k.

It is tempting! If I stick with the bet, I can't lose as even if they get knocked out
I will get around £150. The perfect bet! I think what I might do is half
cash out, so take some profits and keep some of the bet running.

I'll keep the Brazil and France ones open as I can cash out but for relatively
small profits. Some of my teams are going to come up against each other
so I should get at least one in the final I think.

Obviously I'm in a dilemma, I would like England to do well. So if
we play Brazil, Uruguay or France I'm not sure which team I want
to win. But I guess if either wins I'll have something to be
happy about!

England looked pretty determined. But we need to find out how
good they really are if they end up in the semis playing a
really good team.

That will be interesting, as so far they
have played some of the weaker teams. It would be pretty
amazing if they won and given I can't lose on my bets now
I would be happy, honest!

Neymar! Honestly - he ought to get an Oscar for all the pretend
rolling around, diving and general acting.

Can't they use the VAR system and penalise these types of players?

I've backed Federer to win Wimbledon (ew) after seeing him live
yesterday. He looks right at the top of his game. I can't see
anyone getting near him.

Surrey police are advising if you want to sunbathe nude in your garden
during the heatwave you should ask the neighbours first.

Hard one to bring this up. "Morning Vera! Do you mind if my wife gets her
tits out and I get my willie out in our garden this week?

Oh lovely,
thanks so much. Obviously, feel free to get your bits out too!
Nice weather eh. must get the car washed!"

I'll keep my bits covered. When you've got big bits like me it's best or
else I might get divebombed by birds looking for giant worms.
Another reason I'm glad I don't own a "smartphone".

Apparently Samsung phones are randomly sending private photos
in your phone to people on your contacts list.

The mind boggles.

But I am so glad as I'd hate those photos of me at the swingers
party I went to in Guildford getting out.

Especially as taking that Avon Rubber mask with me was a bit
of a mistake.

Westworld has ended. I now kind of wished I hadn't bothered with series two.

It was all too confusing and long-winded. Never mind, can't win em all.

The Handmaid's Tale continues to be a fascinating tale. Who'd have
thought Serena and June would link up? Can they take down
the crazy men?

The Affair is back! (Sky Atlantic) In good form too. If you've not seen
it, worth a view from the start.

Love all the LA therapist stuff. Most of the characters are slightly nuts
(like most of us) so makes it even better.

Game of Thrones has finished filming the final series and that's due to be
shown next year. Not sure why they'd leave it so long - the spoilers
are going to be hard to avoid.

I see "It'll be Alright on the night" is back with David Walliams.

Hey, how about just showing us the "funny" clips? We don't need someone to
link it all. We can judge if the clips are funny or not thanks very much.

Oh hang on I know why. If you just show the clips, the show would only be
10 mins. And if you only showed the really funny ones, about 45 seconds.
SEMINAR NEWS
Sept 24th has sold out a month early.

BUT I have set up an extra event on Oct 15th near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "Oct seminar interested". There is a large first ten to book discount.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:

He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

SEPT 24TH SEMINAR IS SOLD OUT
Overflow date: Oct 15th please mail me for details.
This one already half full.

**
The summer market continues to be quite volatile though when all is
said and done it isn't really going up or down overall!

The ftse seems stuck between 7500 ish and 7800ish. When I return
in September it wouldn't surprise me if it was either 7000 or 8000!

Summer markets are notoriously difficult. I've got other things to
do so I will try and stay off either buying or selling for most of
it if I can.

Problems arise because with so many away liquidity dries up which
means small bits of selling or buying can drive a price up or down
by silly amounts.

This especially happens with the smaller ones. Make sure you are
comfortable with this and decide what you want to hang onto and
what looks dodgy.

If you have a great share and it suddenly goes down a lot it might
well rebound. There may be nothing to it bar a distressed seller.

Clear anything out that makes you frown, keep the rest. Good luck!

Might be worth looking at shorting, check the new edition of my
book The Naked Trader's Guide to Spreadbetting, available here
or on amazon for next day delivery.

That will teach you all I know about spreadbetting! I am really pleased
with the book and nice feedback from some of you already especially
re how to use it just like an isa.

Interestingly right now Sco has the cheapest indices spreads but it also seems
to have the best for the ftse 250 too.

Also, it is offering for a small monthly fee, spreadfree trading (t and c's of course)
and amazingly 2% interest on cash balances paid monthly up to 50k.

I've taken a massive hit of £187,000 this week from the isas and spreadbets..
that's what I've sent to my son's new school to cover the next 5 years as
mentioned above.

It was a bit painful to have to withdraw so much from the accounts. I quietly
cried when making the online withdrawals. Amazing how quick they send you
the loot. Anyway glad about it too, and I'm able to give him a great
education.

A lot of trades/ trade ideas have come up recently because of the two seminars I ran,
the beginners and improvers and the returners.

Those of you who came to the follow up did amazing homework and came up with
some incredible trade ideas, some for now, some for the future. I hope
some of you can come again to the next follow up on Oct 5th!

I can't possibly cover them all here, but will do a few here on the site and
one or two extra on the email sub list.

Cakebox (CBOX) we discussed for some time at the seminar. This is a new
issue recently floated.

It's a company that produces cakes (obvs!) but these are apparently tasty
cakes for those with dietary problems so no eggs involved.

The number of shops is increasing rapidly and I wonder whether at some point
not too far away the company will be bought up by a bigger group (Pattiserie Valerie
or some such?)

I kind of expected it to come to the market very highly priced but actually the sellers
weren't greedy and I thought it was priced reasonably.

So I helped myself to a couple of slices of shares. (Every one a winner!)

I was tempted to top-slice (Gettit?) after the Mail on Sunday tipped it but decided
to hold on rather than take a few crumbs of profit.

Xpediator (XPD) is a share that still looks cheap despite rises and this one was brought up
at the follow up.

If forecasts are right this one is going to go well. It also has
some decent net cash.

It helps to enable consumers to make online purchases.

There is great growth potential here and the sky's the limit. I'll
probably carry on averaging up if it goes higher.

Recruiter Robert Walters (RWA) was the winner of the top prize of trade idea
at the follow up seminar. Well played Ava!

I thought it a good choice as a medium-term investment. It's a tad risky as
it is due to report on July 10th. Even if the report is good (I think it should be)
shares often fall on even good results day as people take profits (better
to travel than arrive thing).

But I'll take the risk as its consistent profit and dividend increases should
continue.

Brexit is not the worry it might be as it has such a wide client base and 78pc
of revenue is generated outside the UK. There is a decent growth here.

I can't think of a reason why this shouldn't carry on although the share is volatile
it seems to move up gently over time.

It also has a very decent cash pile of £34m. So there is a lot to like here,
just the negative of a wide spread. However live at the seminar I
managed to get the sell price on dma. If it falls on results day I'll
pick some up 1-3 days after on weakness.

I like the cinema sector - I've made quite a bit from posh chain Everyman
Cinema and now I have bought some of the much bigger chain,
Cineworld (CINE).

Much bigger actually it's worth around 3.5 bill ! An acquisition means
profits are expected to be way higher next time round so the net debt
is ok compared.

People continue to spend on experiences not things and a lot of its
revenue comes from outside the UK.

It should, I hope gradually continue to rise and so the idea is a long-term
isa tuckaway.

Please note I avoided all potential cinema puns. I hope you feel grateful.

I surprised myself by averaging up again in AB Dynamics.(ABDP) But this
car testing outfit is going from strength so strength and could carry
on going a lot higher.

Keeping stops well away as it can move 60 points quickly as market
makers try and push people out.

I've shorted IG Group which might seem a bit mean as I use them and
think they are pretty good! But I am running a trading business and so
I have to be unemotional!

But the price is back to where it was before the authorities clamped down on
leverage and that seems high enough for the moment.

I can't see a collapse in the shares but can easily see a drop of a quid or so
from current levels. I'd expect to be out of the short sometime over the summer.

I added some more NWF after a mysterious fall. I can't see any reason, and I
suspect some small investors just got stops hit. Unless the co is fibbing
in its very positive last trading statement, the current price is a steal.
Update: CWD - this was sold for a profit, reached target, then
slid so banked profits as it went down.

I've taken odds and sods of profits a bit of topslicing but only
small for moment. I sold all of Redd though for a small profit
as the shares seem stuck in a rut.

The portfolio has been brilliant with a lot of things at highs.

But maybe that's a warning to take some care. I'll probably do
some more topslicing soon. And any buys will be made with care.

If you want to know what I bought over the summer before
anyone else come

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
