Got to get Xmas wrapped up
Quick note to all of you who came to Friday's seminar: I emailed you all the notes on Sunday but I'm getting mails from some of you saying you didn't get them. Please check your spam folders as I gather that is where they are ending up!
My gosh we are SO excited - next week we head off to South Africa for a winter holiday!!
This means I am rather busy.. got to get Xmas presents, cards etc sorted in the next few days as we don't get back till the big day itself!
I was up and down the street yesterday not only buying pressies but also getting stuff for the holiday, sun tan lotion etc. Gotta big list! Stuff for Christopher, help!!!
Got to get the cards done, presents all wrapped before we leave so going to be under pressure the next few days but once on the plane time to relax. Talking planes..
The plane spotters were all over the seminar hotel when I left on Saturday morning. This seminar hotel is right by the runway. And every weekend groups of slightly odd-looking bloke couples (normally one fat and one thin) stand in the car park watching planes.
In fact the first spotter I saw literally the moment I left my room. He was at the end of the hotel corridor, leaning out of the window with the biggest camera I've ever seen.
If I hadn't known about the plane spotter weekends I'd have thought he was a terrorist getting shots of Heathrow.
I've had a thought about plane spotting. It can only be one thing. A replacement for playing mummies and daddies. Don't you reckon?
As I walked past the car park pay machine I realised I had ten car park passes in my pocket - I really ought to have stood by the machines and sold them. "Yours for a fiver!"
Another really enjoyable seminar with a lovely crowd. What's really great with an audience is the knowledge in the crowd of certain sectors because they work in it.
What can I tell you? Farming is still kaput, but property/construction is showing a glimmer of light.
There were just some amazing people there, all linked by the desire to not be in the rat race and have some horrible boss they have to please every day.
One chap has his own car valeting business and is doing well and wants to trade between jobs. Great business in the summer but not so great in the winter. I reckon he could grow that business very nicely. He's determined. He will.
One chapess had returned to the UK after working in property in Spain for many years. Things have got bad over there but she hopes to use the money she built up to trade and like many others I think is determined and disciplined enough to make a good stab at it.
There was a lovely firefighter - I get quite a few as the hours are quite suited to trading. Oh and two super full-time traders from Nigeria who came for drinks afterwards. You can do it guys! I think you do have the discipline and the common sense!
Doctors, dentists, plumbers (don't ask for his number), property developers, shop owners, you name it. We had it!
Well done to Mark who won the FTSE competition with an excellent guess who went away with £200.
Sorry to one or two of you who got hit by flying chocolate bars. Especially someone who got hit by a chunky kit kat.
I could leave the seminar pretty smug though because I made £650 odd from a FTSE upbet while the majority of the audience went with a short which stopped out at £132 loss. Oh hang on, I put the bet on for them so I actually lost. Right I know where you all live and I'm coming to claim my losses back!
I enjoyed the evening part especially and great that so many of you stayed till late as we went through and researched loads of shares though interesting that more looked like shorts than longs...
After talking non stop for over 12 hours I spent Saturday only being able to talk using sign language. Ie pointing at the kettle and the toaster and then putting my hands together as if in prayer.
Anyway thank you all for coming and some of you with such long journeys - and thanks a lot for all the positive feedback. Glad you can see how worthwhile level 2 is as well as some of the other tricks I taught, both in research and timing and wish you all the best with your future trades.
Tonight we have the babysitter (very hard to get hold of so nights out are rare right now) and we're off for a meal with friends and to see the latest Cohen Bros movie.
Then when we get back, probably got to get more Xmas cards done..
The next seminar is already filling up... that'll be on Friday Jan 15th. Which will have to be called the "Happy New Year" seminar.
The good news is right now you will get in cheaper than the sold out one because there's a decent early booking discount!
If you're interested then email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "New Year seminar interested" in the subject line and I'll send you details.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
With Xmas on the way have a look at the shopping site I'm involved with.
I now use it to buy pretty much everything online and I get a kickback from everything I buy from places like Debenhams, Boots, Mothercare etc. Even things like parking at Heathrow, hotel rooms, anything!
YOU can make money out of this too - by simply doing your online shopping as normal but via your site (it costs nothing) and then tell friends to open their shopping site using the link from yours - you then get commission on their buys!
Have a look at this link:
http://www.ei42.com/Nakedtrader/ then click "earn money" on the rhs. So for free you can sign up and get this site for yourself. What's brilliant is any product you want type it into the search and it will come up with it, which store it is at and where it is cheapest, then buy it and earn commission on your spend!
Everytime you buy anything yourself on your site you get commission.. So if you normally shop online anyway it's a no brainer: just use your own site instead of going direct and get some commission every time you shop.
Then you just get some friends to sign up and get their own site too - when they do online shopping using their mall, you get commission too. Simple as that.
The number of emails to me is nearly reaching saturation point and I'm struggling! I'm getting 100s which is lovely in a way but killing me in another.
The main problem is the length of some of them, indeed some run to the length of novels, so, please, help save my eyes and please keep mails to under 150 words.. you can do it! It's close to the stage where I am going to have to say I will answer all mails but those over 200 words will get deleted. Keep them short and sweet, please!!
Also, it's possible the answer you seek from me is already in FAQ's. And do remember I can't discuss individual shares with you as it would be classified as investment advice which I'm not authorised to give.
Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 2 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £138.06 inc vat via me instead of £167.47.
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

I've had heaps and heaps of praise from many of you regarding The Financial Spreadbetting book.
The book really seems to have helped a lot of you understand spreadbetting a lot more than you did. You say it's really helped you with ideas too. The writer deserves commendation. With the ability to go short so important in these volatile markets, it's a must read. To order click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/23307.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
(NOVEMBER 27TH NOW SOLD OUT)
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is now open for the next Naked Trader seminar on Friday January 15th
Price is £495 plus 15% vat. However right now there is an early booking discount!
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc. And most importantly it covers choc bars and fruit gums too.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "New Year seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

What were they going to do? Attack Iran from their boat?
Oh no. Brown is catching up in the polls. Please no. I couldn't take another 5 years of him. I know Cameron is a bit of a tit and his chancellor probably a tosspot but surely absolutely anything or anyone new is worth a try!
Not that any of this matter as Sarkozy tells the City "we are in charge". Signs of things to come.
Dubai World is apparently banking on getting out of the brown stuff with a brilliant new idea.
A massive hotel in Las Vegas where smoking and gambling is.. erm, banned and the rooms cost over a grand a night.
Got any shares in this company? I'd sell them fast!
The next great idea top save money is to cut police overtime. Brilliant. Why not cut all that paperwork instead? Every ticket given to a motorist apparently takes hours to process.
What's all this about Tiger Wood and why would I give a stuff?
I watched The Restaurant on the evening before the seminar and I howled with laughter at the airplane cake.
Just one of those moments in life when you know and everyone knows you have made a giant mistake but it's such a big one in the end you gotta laugh.
The Thick of It has been brilliant (Sat nights BBC2) - hardly watched of course by anyone but superior comedy for anyone with half a brain.
I did try hard and watched some of Gavin and Stacey but .. just didn't do it for me though it appeared better than most of the dire comedy output from the UK.
Talking of which there is a new "comedy" starting tonight on BBC1 about a circus where things go wrong starring Amanda Holden described as a "warm family comedy".
You have been warned. I can guess it already. A miserable clown? Lots of animals going up trousers? People falling over? Mix ups? I'd rather sleep with a large wet haddock than watch it thanks!
(Ps apparently large wet haddocks are rather good in bed)
Next door team Fulham have so few players not injured that the manager said he might have to play in the Europa League game tomorrow! I think quietly he'd be happy if they lost and got knocked out...
If you press "Sports" there is a preview of the weekend's sports betting action and a look at the weekend games.
Get to grips with sports spread betting by opening an account with Sporting Index. . Click the link below to find out more.

Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Thank you so much for a really, really useful and interesting day on Friday. My eyeballs were falling out and brain seeping from my ears by the time I staggered out at about 8:30. I don't know where you get the stamina from since you were doing all the talking all day.
You are incredibly generous with your knowledge and expertise and I hope I can do justice with all the information you provided. You probably know this already but your style of sharing information is really accessible and understandable for ordinary people who want to break out of what they are doing.
I hope you continue to have fun with what you're doing and enjoy your time with your young boy.
Thanks Richard - I'm sure "well done Robbie" mails probably are a bit grating - but thanks to all of you who came for the feedback which this mail kind of represents.

From one parent to another with children of similar ages I thought I'd run an issue past you. My daughter Lotty (started schools this year) has been starting to learn French. I think it would be much better for her (and ultimately UK economy) if she was learning Spanish.
Chinese would be more useful but it's difficult to learn and afterall we are Europeans. Spanish is a more widely spoken language than French, developing countries such as South America, Mexico etc.. speak Spanish, Britain is in the service industry these days and going forward so learning a very useful foreign language is key for children.
Out with french and in with Spanish. I emailed David Cameron and suggested it to him a few weeks ago- no reply as yet. What do you think? Most parents don't think it's a concern which is fine I suppose.
Simon I tend to agree but you could equally argue Polish could be handy! Spanish is spoken more widely - indeed Christopher has French lessons. You wonder at an age where kids can learn fast whether they could do both. There also seem to be a number of bi-lingual kids at his school where the parents already speak another language. I just feel bad I only speak English and a bit of rubbish French. How lazy is that?
Julian writes:
Just a quick comment on the FX and index playing - couldn't agree more. My worst losses ( which are now a year or so ago and never to be repeated!) were in daytrading them . They move very quickly , especially the FX since i suspect that the nearly all the players have their trades automated and stops can get tripped quickly . If you go on Youtube you can see demos of people chasing daily breakouts on the FX . I tried this and 80 % of the time it doesn't work and when it does it goes a little way then comes back!! I also tried maybe 5 different strategies in a short time frame and they all just cost me money !
I do think they can be played successfully but only over a much longer time frame.
Hi Julian - agreed!

I was watching my five year old son swimming in his club lesson, when
your Speedo dilemma popped into my mind. It's not a dilemma at all,
indeed I think you can really push the "Naked" brand by buying flesh
coloured Speedos, and introduce a swimming break into your seminars at
the hotel pool. After all, a fit, healthy, body and mind are going to
make better trading decisions, and work longer hours studying
investment strategy. I'll expect to see a Naked Speedos link off your
website shortly! Great website and book by the way.
Adrian what a great idea... www.nakedspeedos.com is on its way!

Markets
Those of you that came to the seminar, I hope you enjoyed having a nosey around my accounts live on the screen but it does go to prove you can make hundreds of thousands of pounds tax free in ISAs from just putting in £7k a year. It can be done!
For those of you who came to the seminar you may remember I had a FTSE long open - as I explained I thought the Dubai thing was overdone and would have bought some shares at the biggest moment of fear, always the best time to buy. But because I was too busy getting the seminar ready I stuck on a FTSE long as it was something I could do quickly and bought in at 5104 as you all saw in my account. I've sold out at 5306 to bank a profit of £1,010. Nice one!
We watched the bet on the day but in the end didn't take the profit despite some pressure from the crowd. Well, sometimes it's best to go against the crowd..
Biggest vote of the day at the seminar went to Bioquell (BQE) which I bought live in the afternoon getting 3,000 shares at 146.1.
I bought because it has a super growth story.
It is a small but growing company that specialises in decontamination services to places like hospitals - profits are growing, and it has cash in the bank. Great prospects here for major growth in 2010.
It's launched the "Q-10" - a new biocontamination product specifically for hospitals and there seems confidence that sales here will grow - it provides products for other sectors too including defence. With dirty hospitals in the news, money is going to be spent in this area.
And if sales go well, the share price could go well and I am hoping for a 50% increase for next year and I have it down as medium to longer term winner. It even pays a dividend. Even better there looks hardly any downside at current prices and tons of possible upside. With a bit of patience on the many days it won't move, I think BQE will be a big 2010 winner for me. Target 220 stop 130.
I'd pretty much forgotten about Porvair which serves me right as I hadn't noticed it slipping back - and by the time I'd noticed it was breakeven territory rather than the decent profit it had been. Note to self: Give self a b
! Sold at 59 for £100 loss.
Then yesterday I noticed PRV had tanked to 48-53 but I spotted the market-makers raising the price and buys going in so I bought back for 5,000 at 52.96. This morning a pretty positive statement has lifted the price. I really bought this one for the bid prospects and with a rival company owning near 25%, must come imo at some point. Target 80 stop 47.
Looks like I bought Batm at the top (stupid boy) so I sold at 50.93 for a loss of £330 .However I still like it and hope to get back in and retrieve the loss.
What a brilliant short Wolseley turned out to be! It achieved my 130 pts down target of 1200 easily and then went down even further to 1140! At which point I should have taken the profit but stupidly I let it rise back up but I have closed at 1192 for a profit of £549. Even better this looks like being a great short every time it get back near to the 1300 level.
Time to bank the RBS profits and they've gone at 35.37 for a profit of £1,637. Of course I should have sold higher but at least I took nearly all the Barclays profits of over £6,000 close to the top.
All of which profit and loss taking leads to a final profit of £1,756.
Elsewhere brilliant doubler Microgen went ex dividend today for 4p so it opened down 4p. I can see some selling but I bet it's from investors who had not noted down the large 4p ex dividend date! It means I get a dividend of over £1,000. Investors often make the mistake of selling on XD date not realising the share is dropping because of the XD and not for any other reason.
Creston has reduced its debt some more and shares are on the up after results - on top of that directors are buying and after seeing those results looks like a brilliant hold for 2010.
RM has gone 20 pts higher now since I bought last week and plenty of buyers around - and a nice tip in The Telegraph on this one too, expecting a much higher price in 2010. Photo Me has remained strong ahead of what should be an excellent statement.
Afren has leapt nicely higher ahead of entry to the main listing tomorrow. Spirent has been rocketing and Intec Tel Sys has bounced nicely higher too.
Centamin Eqypt has been doing the business and rises well today. The various doublers and treblers all look in good health - Petrofac especially. Alterian has come back a bit but looks set for another run and still more or less trebled there.
So all in all an extremely good week! Given I predicted a quiet week last week I make so such predictions for this one!
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Link is here: -
http://www.igindex.co.uk/?QPID=1078&QPPID=1
that also includes a pretty decent educational programme. As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.
£100 Tradefair offer
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 2 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply).

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Weds and Fri afternoons under "Markets" section.. afraid I can't do live trades as that would turn me into a tipster and I'd have to be regulated!
