Phew! What a busy couple of weeks. One seminar and one follow up seminar, nights out, days out... what happened to my relaxed sitting around in pyjamas?
First a big thanks to all of you I met at the seminar on Friday and I'm bowled over by the positive feedback. Thanks so much.
Even better is the feedback coming in from those who've come to previous seminars who are now making money rather than losing it - that is very rewarding for me.
Of course not everyone has the right makeup to trade shares. I could talk till blue in the face but some will never be able to sell shares at a loss or have the right discipline. If someone comes to a seminar and recognises maybe they just don't have the ability that's good too I guess.
So many interesting people came to the seminar. All kinds of ages and jobs. I noticed in particular plumbers.. heating engineers and similar are getting into trading. Not a bad idea given trading between jobs should be practicable.
Doctors, pilots, property developers, truck drivers, IT consultants, accountants, builders, name the expertise, we had it! It also shows what you do is no barrier to trading for some extra money/income.
I love talking to people from different occupations - for instance talked to a couple of people who work for property companies - they both reckon property prices are due to comedown fast and soon.
I had to laugh at what one of the pilots had written on his questionaire:
"Are you able to trade at work?"
Answer: "Tricky to trade at work!"The other: "Zero trading on plane."
Just as well, can you imagine your pilot trading. One of his shares goes bust. "Ladies and gentlemen please fasten your seatbelts as we are about to encounter some bad turbulence..."
The new Starbucks at the hotel kept me going and thanks to those kind people who kept me supplied with short cappos!
Lunch was fish and chips, we got talking about South Africa from an ex resident.
Sadly he has had to relocate away from his native land due to the violence over there.
It doesn't put us off going for our usual winter break there as we're pretty careful and still enjoy it as a holiday destination.
My main feeling after the seminar and from talking to so many people was those already trading and making a hash of it were quite simply refusing to sell their losers.
They were letting their losing trades take over and instead of cutting them fast at say, 10% some people had open trades with losses of 50% plus.
My view is no-one should ever allow losses to build up like this. Control your losses, you then control your capital and you are more likely to make money. So there.
It was getting past 8pm and I said "I'm hard enough to carry on if you are!" So I kept going but was enjoying it as I love scanning for new shares and I came up with one or two interesting ones.
Some drifted off. Even my laptop cried enough by 9pm and shut itself down. Lucky an IT man in the group got it back up!
In the end I suddenly collapsed at about 10! I could take no more and had the feeling I never ever wanted to talk about markets again.
Best bit about seminars for me is the last session where I probably come across shares and do painstaking research I might get lazy about at home. Nearly always end up with a couple of decent ones.
Thanks to all the very kind delegates who lined up gin and tonics for me. And for the chats in the bar.
I vaguely remember clambering into a hotel bed at 1am, as p***** as a ****. The problem with that was of course that stopped me from sleeping and so the rest of the weekend was spent in a comatose state.
The best anyone could get out of me over the weekend was "hmmm..... "
Anyway once again thanks to all of you for coming such a long way and for the amazing feedback. It's funny how people perceive you!
One said they thought I was "more clinical" about the markets than they expected. Someone thought I was "kinder" than they expected. And another was surprised I didn't eat as much chocolate as they expected. Now how was I supposed to find the time. I made up for it at the weekend.
Apparently Christopher had missed me and I got a lovely cuddle when I got home and despite feeling tired tried to give him lots of fun over the weekend.
Those of you who missed this seminar don't despair as I've booked the next date!
It's going to be on Friday Nov 26th. Booking now open so mail me for details at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Nov Seminar interested" in the subject line.
Those of you booking at this early stage will get a very generous early booking discount!

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

The number of emails to me is nearly reaching saturation point and I'm struggling! I'm getting 100s which is lovely in a way but killing me in another.
The main problem is the length of some of them, indeed some run to the length of novels, so, please, help save my eyes and please keep mails to under 150 words.. you can do it! It's close to the stage where I am going to have to say I will answer all mails but those over 200 words will get deleted. Keep them short and sweet, please!!
Also, it's possible the answer you seek from me is already in FAQ's. And do remember I can't discuss individual shares with you as it would be classified as investment advice which I'm not authorised to give.
Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £138.06 inc vat via me instead of £167.47.
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
(SEPTEMBER 24TH SEMINAR NOW SOLD OUT - SORRY)
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is still open for the Naked Trader seminar on Friday Nov 26th.
Price is £495 plus vat. However right now there is a generous early bookers discount!
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
My real problem is this guy wants to lead the country.. but honestly. Straight from university into politics.
What does he know about running a business or how it works? Or about anything? He didn't even go to a real comprehensive. It was the poshest one in the country!
A speech containing no new ideas - it mainly talked about the "new generation". Kind of saying we won't screw it up like the oldies did...
Meanwhile brother David was seething in the front row. Of course he's angry and jealous his brother beat him -who wouldn't be? All this brotherly love stuff doesn't wash.
All in all though Milliband the Younger doesn't look up to the job. Best bit of course was David Milliband during Ed's bit on Iraq telling Harriet Harperson she shouldn't be clapping....
Another big company, Wolsely is moving to Switzerland to pay less tax. The new Government has got to deal with this and the tax system and sort it out. What a mess.
Not only are taxpayers confused and bewildered by it but so is the taxman!
Time to simplfy the tax system. Do away with all allowances, credits, national insurance, the whole lot. Tax starts for all at £12,000 with flat rate of 20%. That would be the end for tax evasion (everyone would happily pay up). Lowest paid pay no tax, highest paid get incentives to really go for it with their businesses. Employment would shoot up as would tax revenues.
Ed Milliband thinks it's a great idea to permanently keep the 50% rate. Nonsense. It stifles new industry, stops new jobs being created and is a tax on the people who work hard. It doesn't really bring in any money either.
Mad Men continues to delight - goodness knows what happens next - it's just lovely to be transported to a different age free of computers and blackberries. Where decisions were made face to face and not via email.
I didn't use to like Harry Enfield but in the main his new series is funny. Of course some sketches aren't so great but the Dragons Den mickey take is excellent.
Two entreprenurs come in with a new sauce - they get rejected by the Dragons. Then they return with the same sauce as black with ragga hair and singing a song. Of course the Dragons fall over each other to invest - more than a grain of truth there!
Poor Deborah Meaden must be gutted by her portrayal. They've missed a trick though not giving James impersonator a James Bond style cat to stroke...
The Apprentice is back next week. I hope for the best this time as it appears because of the recession they may well have some decent contestants.
People who have already done well and were earning well but got done in by the recession. That could make for a better show. We shall see. I suspect Lord Sir A will ham it up even more....
The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account, you can get £100 cash into your account, terms and conditions apply.
http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your Septemnber seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Mike writes:
I would just like to thank you again for the great time at the follow up seminar and would like to report that thanks to your methods of teaching I have completely changed my investing style and since my first seminar a while back my fund is now nicely up which is a complete turn around from my day trading the FTSE days!
Mike glad to hear of continued success! It does take time to figure out what works for you. Some can make money day trading but it isn't for everyone and investing can be easier for some, including myself.
Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
John writes:
Thanks for a great seminar last Friday, everyone I spoke to enjoyed it and marvelled at how you kept going so long; you certainly gave value for money.
If the seminar taught me anything it was how to trade in a more professional and detached manner. I realise up till now I was just playing at it.
Thank you once again for a fantastic day that will remain with me for the rest of my life.
Thanks John, though my wife sometimes complains I go on for too long.....

Markets
Phew! It's always busy for me after and during a seminar and quite a bit of trading - more than I'd usually do.
Overall things still going very well, However October which is usually pretty nasty is on the way so I need to consider taking some stuff off the table soonish. Probably!
Anyway tons of trades made mainly because of the seminar findings, here we go with most of them..
I made a spreadbet of £25 in Xchanging (XCH) at 137 - pure recovery play for this one that's almost halved in value. Target 160 stop 125. It's already started the recovery and think there is more to come.
SportingBet (SBT) looks a potential takeover target now it's settled with the US. And even if it isn't it's doing well enough so I bought some on a spreadbet at the seminar, £50 at 78p. target 100 stop 70.
Microgen (MCGN) has been an amazing performer for me, having doubled and a half. I hadn't intended on getting more but new trades started coming in so I've bought some more, 4,500 shares at 97.25.
The reason I bought more as well as the buying coming in was that I pretended I was coming across the shares as new again. I did my research looked at the figures and I would have bought now from scratch.
Therefore no reason why not to top up. Early this week there were some giant trades - something up here. It's in the right sector and it's awash with cash.Target 130 stop 90.
Since my buy it's shot through 100, little profit taking today but I reckon it will continue heading up - possibly one of the reasons is it's being re-rated as a tech share in which case it should head up to 130 and beyond.
Xaar (XAR) popped up on several share screens at the seminar late on. This printing company is really going for it - and despite seeming to be too high, level 2 and my other "tricks" (seminar people will know!) still made it a buy so I did! Bought 2,000 at 177. Target 220 stop 170. It seems to have some kind of printing technology and one wonders about a bid from someone like Domino Printing. (My speculation of course).
Another one that came up on the screen at the seminar was one I hadn't come across before - E2V Technologies. (E2V)
At first glance it isn't one I would normally go for - it loses money and it has debt above my normal ratios. However, losses have narrowed so much and debt is coming down fast that I've taken a small position but bearing in mind it's risky.
However there are good buying volumes ahead of a statement due early October so I'll take a little gamble with it and I bought 4,500 at 82.9. target 120 stop 72.
Phew! I think there might even be one or two more trades that I made at the seminar but I'm running late so I'll bring those to you on Friday!
Spice confirmed it's a done deal for the bid at 70p. The shares went up to 70 which was a surprise given shares normally trade a little below even a done deal. Maybe the market thinks there is a chance of more but looks unlikely to me.
Not looking a gift horse in the mouth and to save me waiting a few weeks for the 70p, I was out. For a very nice profit of £3,100.
Sorry to see Spice go as made a lot of money on it over the last couple of years on both the long and short side.
A marvellous short at over 100p when the Mail on Sunday caused it to rise to a silly level from its tip, made a packet from that and that it became a wonderful long at 30-40p. Bye Spice, gonna miss you. Strangely they are still at close to 70p. Dunno why but the end of the story for me.
So goodbye Spice and thanks for that lovely nice profit of more than £3,000!
Wow wee, the portfolio has absolutely stormed ahead in the last week with many big movers higher.
I guess African Aura is the star performer and has motored up more than 35% in just a few days! That's because of a very decent drilling update. Management seem very upbeat about its prospects - they reckon to be developing a significant Iron Ore prospect and with Iron Ore in demand too, this could all be good for the share price. Bound to be volatile but will try and stick with this now after selling too soon previously.
After AAAM's good rise would expect a pullback and would be interested in buying some more if it weakens. With such good reports market makers may well try to scare out weak holders as they managed with me a few weeks ago!
Some other good statements too - Andor say they are ahead of expectations which is good news. The share price continues to motor.
And a statement from Porvair shows is running ahead of expectations and a nice jump higher - lovely one this is proving. I originally bought it for bid target potential but looks good enough without that now.
Recent top up Alternative Network goes very well. Next target has to be the 200 area, any move through there and it looks bullish. Really just holding for a bid. Nicely higher today.
Photo Me continues a brilliant run - looks like it will shortly be a doubler - no sign of it stopping.
Recent buy The Vitec Group has managed to break up a bit. Patience should pay off! Gone ex dividend today so a payment coming too. Pushing 500 at the moment.
Recent top up Alterian needs a good few goes to get through 200 but any more above there would be bullish.
Micro Focus continues to recover nicely, super Yule Catto continues to rise, 250 could be on the cards.
Volex has sparked up yet again this week and went to 300 but that was too much for now - fair enough but would expect it to make another crack at it soonish.
Devro seems to be starting a new run up it got through 250 and now having a crack at 260. What a brilliant one this has been..
Dialight's amazing run continues and it seems to have conquered the 400 at last, closing above there a couple of times. if it can consolidate 500 appears to be a possible. Mulberry continues its good run and now battles with 400 leaving me nearly 150 points up! .
XP Power has zoomed up even higher and now past 800!! I'm still holding onto the original buy at 150! Shows sometimes it really is worth being patient. Touching 900 now.
Lovely Petrofac has surged again heading for nearly 1400 and together with Enquest sees me sitting on profits way in excess of £20,000. Of course it's volatile but a strong uptrend remains intact.
A potential bid for Hyder still looks like it's in there for nothing! It can't get through 350 but a bid could easily see 500.
Aggreko has seen a massive rise and it gets further bought every time it weakens - made a big amount here in a short time but I'm intending to stay with it. Some bid rumours have been floating about in the paper s but who knows? Spirent has doubled for me and there recent top up is in profit.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Link is here: -
http://www.igindex.co.uk/?QPID=1078&QPPID=1
that also includes a pretty decent educational programme. As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.telecomplus.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me!

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Weds and Fri afternoons under "Markets" section.. afraid I can't do live trades as that would turn me into a tipster and I'd have to be regulated!
