Goodness we had a bad start to our half term hols. If anything could have gone wrong with the travelling part, it did!
I guess it is sods law, never had any problem before with countless holidays so there was bound to be one.
It all started well enough... the sat nav said 45 mins to London City Airport so to be generous we bunged another half an hour on to that to leave us getting there a nice 2 hours before the flight.
And indeed all was well until literally just three miles from the airport..... there was a traffic jam. Nothing to be concerned about, the sat nav assured us we were ten minutes away.
But then... the traffic hardly moved at all... it crawled and crawled.... an hour later we were beginning to panic. How were we going to make it? Jump out the car and walk the last mile? Ask Scotty to beam us out?
We discovered the reason for the non moving traffic was a pair of stuck traffic lights. Green for ten seconds red for ten minutes.
Now the plane was due to take off in 30 mins and we were still not there. We decided we'd missed the flight and hoped there was a later one or maybe we could get one from Gatwick.
Amazingly despite being obvious the lights were stuck people obeyed them. Come on just go through we thought so we started hooting our horn and luckily others joined in forcing the law abiding car in front to go through the lights and then everyone joined in the rebellion.
Soon we were at the airport. At about the time the plane had been due to take off.
Utter chaos there. No-one seemed to be properly in charge of chaotic queues, some people were joining in the middle and pushing in, everyone was late for their flights.
The board indicated the flight wasn't boarding yet but how to get through the queues? In the end we got through still not knowing whether we would get on the flight or not, even the ground staff who checked us in did not have a clue.
Then, of course... security, Massive queues, looks like an least an hour. If we queued we'd never get on the flight so we pleaded with security people and amazingly it worked and they let us jump though.
And just when we thought we might just make the flight one of our bags didn't make it through the x-ray.
It was Christopher's bag. We had to stop. They wouldn't let us go through. Please we pleaded.. let us go...
The guy glared at Christopher's football. "You can't take a football on a plane," he said.
"Take it," we said. Then he let us go. No idea why his football was banned. Anyhow we rushed to the gate and made it by literally seconds!!!
Phew. We could hardly believe we were on the flight. Relax. AHHHHH.....
We got to Malaga airport and waited for our bags.. and waited.. and waited and then the shock dawned. The problem was about to get worse. NO BAGS!!!
Eventually we got told the bags never made it onto the flight at all. And worse there were no more flights due that day and there was no chance on getting the bags for some time, at the very least a day!!
So we got to our villa with just what we had on us and a couple of magazines. Laptops and I Pads were back in the UK!! No net for us for a while!
So we had to go and buy stuff like toothpaste and swimming stuff - apparently we'd get compensated if we kept receipts...
The only thing is, do you think a Mulberry handbag receipt is going to get paid out?
Anyway eventually the bags were delivered... oh and on the way back Spanish security couldn't work out why Christopher couldn't take his football on the plane and were perfectly happy to allow it through on the way back.
After all who ever heard of a football bringing down a plane? Daft.
Thinking no more problems could possibly occur on our hols the next thing that happened was ..... yes, I bashed the hire car...
How would we avoid being done for a massive bill by the hire car company? Well, dear readers we did manage it.... but I will leave that story till next week, not much of a cliffhanger to be sure, but it's all I got.
The rest of our time in Spain went very well, I enjoyed a rest from answering emails (some of them honestly, if you saw them you would groan and bang your head on the nearest desk like I do...) some very nice weather and lots of travelling about.
Christopher found boys all day long to play football with whenever he wanted so all in all a great trip except for the start of it.
My ideal would be to live there Nov-Feb but we can't.. shame Christopher can't go to a school there winter term and go to his usual school here spring and summer terms...
Thanks for the continued feedback from the last seminar, many of you are now using level 2 to great effect, as I say the main thing is it stops you buying something you could get at a better price another time.
If you missed the seminar, the next one is on March 31st (the March 17th event is a sell out) and the good news is there is a decent early bookers discount! I'm sorry I had to disappoint some of you with the sell out but hope the new date works for you.
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "March 31st seminar interested" in the subject line.
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Here's some feedback from the last one from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
New Date: March 31St Near Heathrow
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Mar 31st - an overflow event for those who missed out on the March 17th event now sold out.
Price is £590 plus vat. However there is a decent early bookers discount available for those booking nice and early.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Mar seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
What are parents complaining about? Holiday prices are higher outside term time , well of course they are!
It's like you pay more for flowers on valentines day. It's called supply and demand and how business works.
The holiday companies find people can afford to pay the higher prices so there is demand. If there wasn't they would drop the prices.
If you can't afford it, then tough, you can't go on holiday.
I only went on one holiday thoughout my whole childhood. We couldn't afford it so that was that. We still had fun.
We realise we have to pay more to go away as we have a child but that is the way it is, you can't interfere with that.
I bet some of the holiday companies would go bust if they couldn't charge more at peak demand.
In fact we are looking at holidays for the rest of the year and they are very hard to book even at top prices. Demand is there. Pay it or not and stop moaning!
One way round it could possibly be allowing parents one week per year off school in termtime perhaps with a caveat that homework and some extra work is done during that week.
Now the Mrs is hooked on Breaking Bad we are into the final series which means shortly she'll have caught up and I can watch new episodes... whoopee!
Wow, Duncan made an offer in Dragons Den! And what's weird is it looked like a poor choice, kids cases? Are you kidding?
In any event they have to sort out the show because contestants are only interested in offers from Peter Jones or Deborah really.
They need some new firepower. I wonder if Richard Branson is getting bored?
I notice Deal or No Deal has introduced a new box 23. A sure sign that the game has probably reached the end of its shelf life.
It's a badly thought out idea. Those that didn't win anything will always go for the new box, and those that won a few quid won't. Not much drama there.
I suspect at the end of the next contract negotiation for the show the answer from Channel 4 will be "No Deal".
Now the floods are over you know what to expect.
Yes, within a month there will be a hosepipe ban..

Dave writes :
I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.
I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.
Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!
Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!
Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.
****
A reminder next seminar is Mar 31st. The March 17th event sold out early so sorry to disappoint those of you who were too late but hope this overflow date works for you. There is a decent early bookers discount email me for details at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "March 31 seminar interested" in the subject line.
There is new follow up seminar on Mar 10th for those of you who want to spend another day with me and live markets! Mail me with "follow up" in the subject line. That is close to sell out.
****
Well, as I've been mainly on holiday I have really only made trades that I felt I had to or really warranted it.
I suspect many were pushed out of positions when markets fell and wished they hadn't been and now feel they are too high to buy. Which may be right.
It keeps trying to push up through highs but not surprisingly falls back and maybe it's just stuck in a range.
Just remember if you try and second guess the market you'll probably be wrong every time unless you get really lucky.
Follow it and don't guess and remember ignore all the market bullshit commentators out there especially the "elliot wavers" and the rest, it is all basically cobblers and they need to fill space or sell subscriptions.
The worst is a magazine that has been advertising itself on fear ("The world is about to end we will save you etc) and they have been doing this for 30 years!
Assume everything in the market is pretty much a sales pitch. Hey, can I offer you some swamp land? Or how about some Bitcoins? Diamonds? Frankinsense.. come on, you know you want some...
Much better than buying some boring company that just makes profits. After all how boring is that!
So actually I've not been in a rush to do anything and I've simply been chilling out on holiday.
I haven't found much that screams "Buy me" and also I've not looked at much that screams "Sell Me" either.
So, sorry to disappoint, I know you traders out there want to see me hungry for action but maybe I am just a fat cat now who just wants his tummy tickled.
My bowl is full of food and really I have little incentive to go out there and hunt some mice. Frankly I have no idea either where this weak analogy is going. Nowhere perhaps.
I bought some more Servelec (SERV). I bought quite a few in December at 212 and it has already served up profits of more than 25%. I've been attracted in to buy more, it was moving up in a down market yesterday so I added this time getting another lot at 266 yesterday .
The market really seems to like this one and it continues to have great prospects for a rise up to and above 300. There is plenty of support for it on the order book too so all in all looks like a nice new top up for me.
As those of you who get my pension trades know, I've been buying Styles and Wood (STY) in it, had some at 5p once! I've also now bought for the ISA at 14.4 p and 17.3. It keeps gradually going higher and I think it might hit 30p with a bit of a fair wind.
An interesting company that looked like at one point it was going to go bust however there are some green shoots here. It is trying to branch out and just won a new contract and also a contract to install solar panels. It remains high risk and it's one where I think "I could lose the lot so go small". It's had a very good couple of days today and yesterday but it is very volatile.
I should shortly get 23,486 new shares in Seeing Machines in the rights issue at 5p which is rather good news as the price is well above that!
I sold Infinis. It just doesn't seem to want to do anything and I don't really have much of a grasp of it so it's gone at 262 for a profit of £593.
I had a lovely run with Scapa but it reached about where I thought it would and so it's gone at 125.95 for a profit of £1,257. However our parting of the ways will probably only be temporarly as I do like it and hoping for a nice retrace on it to buy back a bit lower.
What a great trade the live trade I made at the seminar turned out to be - that was the Hunting spreadbet, it really could not have gone better, and just as it was an easy buy it was so easy to sell it as it met resistance at 850 and it went at 844 for a nice quick profit since the seminar of £920. If only all trades could be like that but I hope those of you who came to the seminar now see a bit more clearly how to plan a trade where the risk is minimal but reward, erm... maximal?
And another excellent seminar trade Dominos reached well over target and banked at 566 for a profit of £900.
That's a total profit banked for the site of £3,670
Highlights
So what's been happening? In general the portfolio has done very nicely with most stuff heading higher and no panics or warnings to worry about.
Interesting announcement from Hangar 8 which looks like it is going to be reversed into by a bigger company.
It's good news and shareholders await developments and in the meantime the shares are suspended. One suspects they will return higher!
In the same sector Avation produced a report which augurs well for the future, and that remains a long-term position.
Nice moves from Monitise which continues to find favour in the market with positiveness for the future. Nearly doubled now and six timed in my pension.
Telit has motored up though very volatile and Merlin continues its nice gentle uptrend - its statement looks promising.
What to say about the lovely Kentz? Some amazing rises this week and some brilliant profits.
Fusionex continues well and has now more than doubled for me since I bought in October. Finding staying above 700 a bit hard.
OPG Power has been a nice one for me and seems to have conquered 80.
Long-termer Porvair is flirting with 300p and looks good.
Entertainment One is really going well now has conquered 300 and has been a wonderful long-termer.
Quindell has been rocketing up, and then falling on profit taking after a decent run and is very volatile but brokers are putting out valuations of around 75p so though I have doubled there seems more to go for. Probably one to avoid looking at for too long!
Renew put out a very confident super statement been a lovely hold and a potential doubler soon.
Communisis goes well after being awarded a new contract from Lloyds - 70p seems to be busted.
Telecom Plus has continues to look happy at around 1800 for now. Given I bought loads at 100 it makes me very happy! It now means I have a massive stake in there worth nearly £700,000. The open positions on the website now total profits of £270,000. Distributors have a get together next month and have been told there will be some exciting announcements!
GB Group has doubled with giant profits building. BTG still looks like a long-term winner.
Regeneris has regenerated and whizzed back over 300.
RWS, Avon, CML and Loq, (now called accesso) are the long-term stars and all are shining so far this year. Six times on Accesso, trebled on CML, doubled on Avon and doubled on RWS.
And a big cheer for Vimto maker Nichols, what a share!! It has bubbled up 2 and a half times from my original buy. It reported this year and all looks good. Also three cheers for Cohort which has gone over 200.
*** Two Newer Spreadfirms I Use
It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Dillistone so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far.

TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC
If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.ig.com/nakedtradercfds
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Telecom Plus Offer
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on Wednesday afternoons.
