Just back from Dubai and trying to acclimatise to the weather. From a T-shirt to four layers.
Dubai is four hours ahead so currently it's breakfast at 5am. Going to try and move it by half an hour a day.
On visiting a very quiet small mall near the hotel we wondered how these quiet independent shops made any money.
We soon found out.
While looking at suitcases the owner said "Would you like to see some magic?"
"Sure, how big's the magic discount then?" I asked.
He brought us over to a stand which had lots of beach towels on it.
He pushed it hard, the stand was actually a door into.. The magic.
"Abracadbra!" he smiled. Behind the door was a corridor leading to a hidden secret shop.
A beautifully lit lovely looking shop containing"¦ fake bags, shoes.. Well, whichever fake you fancied it was there.
Much to his surprise we politely declined and we were taken back into the pretend outward facing shop.
"If you know anyone who wants some magic, let me know," he said.
He did give us the onceover before announcing the magic shop.
Of course because I'm bald people instantly think I'm dodgy.
Just one of the trials us bald community has to put up with.

I can hardly believe it but it's 20 years since I started doing the hotel events.
I remember so many of the people over those years. Some became friends, some regular emailers.
Some of you have been to nearly every Xmas one.
Of course since covid there is less interest in actually having events in person, most just want online.
But there is still something special about an in person one and it's sad for me there are only enough interested to just do a couple a year with the rest online.
Anyway, see some of you there on Monday, as usual we kick off at 10am, finish at 6pm and then the bar after when the drinks are on me which well eats into any profit!
There's also an Xmas lunch and lots of snack goodies throughout the day including of course, Yorkshire Tea.

It's pissed absolutely everyone off and if there was an election now it would be wiped out.
Probably the worst thing of all is the egos.
"I will still be here next year and at the next election."
It's become all about them and not us. Disastrous.
Rachel Reeves seems like a rabbit in the headlights and just isn't intellectually up to the job.
One casualty already of the Budget, the new electric car surcharges and the "congestion charge" increase now applied to electric cars is the demise of Zip Car.
It closes at year end making nearly 100 redundant.
We loved this car share and even sold our car because of it.
You just used an app, there was always a car around to use.
No more insurance, mot, filling up, charging, worry about theft"¦
There were thousands of us happy users and now most will probably have to buy a car again.
We're thinking of being "brave" though and just use public transport in London and hire one when we need one for weekends away and suchlike.
But on cold winter days it is tempting to get back into buying a car.
And trying to forget insurance, mot's, thefts"¦.
Yes! Still in the Whamageddon club having avoided hearing any of Wham's Last Christmas anywhere so far.
Last year I was caught out on the 14th by TalkSport playing a snatch of it during a football commentary.

Our heroine continues her crusade against the "nice" virus with not much luck.. Yet.

Top notch drama reliving the incarceration of Nazanin Zaghari-Radcliffe for years in Iran.
Terrible mistakes and coldness from various politicians .
She was just a pawn in a political game between Iran and the UK.
Her treatment was horrible and this drama covers it brilliantly. Well worth a view.
The Beast in Me **** Netflix
Silly but addictive thriller with Homeland's Clare Danes, doing what she always does with the sensational quivering lip.
The brilliant Matthew Rhys plays an evil rich guy. Did he murder his wife and is he about to send the quivering lip into an early grave?
It's nice and easy to follow, no timelines. A relaxing view with lots of lovely silly cliffhangers.
Spotify is telling customers what their music listening "age" is.
I'm not on it but I suspect given my appreciation of Sabrina Carpenter songs mine will be somewhere around 14. I could listen to espresso all day as well as drink it.
Though the other day I did find the silly but lovable happy song Ding A Dong by Teach In and found myself dancing round the kitchen.
That probably pushed my average up to 25.
Ps. Don't miss the special "ding" right at the end.
A group dumped horse manure outside the Ritz proclaiming "Inequality is shit, tax the rich".
Surely the response is: "Go get a job you lazy bastards".

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.
The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.
Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Well, as we hopefully head into a potential Santa rally, what we want (what we really really want) is a crap week to give us a head start for the rally in a few days!
And that's pretty much what we are getting.
This week and part of next is usually crap.
And there is nearly always a crash when I do a hotel seminar so expect Monday to be a stinker but buy buy buy later in the week!
UK shares continue to look cheap but Rachel Reeves (chess champion, or is she? Shall we check, mate?) keeps putting paid to any growth with tons of silly taxes.
While this woman who sadly is way out of her depth continues in charge of the country's finances expect little help for growth.
It's pointless me pointing out the incredible idiocy and breathtaking stupidity of the current lot in charge, you know it, as does everyone.
As usual quite a few trade ideas and trades to be came up at the online seminar.
More trades to be as it's not the greatest time to be buying stuff.
Elixirr looked one of the most interesting ones and looks under the radar and is little traded which often makes for a silly spread as there aren't many orders on the book.
Which is why I went on DMA and at least didn't have to pay the spread.
It moved from market maker only to SETS recently which is why for the mo the spread can be a few points.
Its last results claimed record breaking growth and a big expansion in the US.
It is using cash and a new debt facility to buy up others and this challenger consultancy looks to me to be overlooked and undervalued.
If it can keep rising next year it could easily join the FTSE 250.
I bought some Globaldata. Made a few quid on that one before and it seemed to have fallen way too far.
It had a tender offer at 150p which is the last time I held it but it's fallen around the quid level which looks too low.
It's just announced a share buyback and is moving to the main market from AIM early next year which should raise its profile.
Its aim is to "achieve long-term compounding profit growth".
My aim is to stick with it unless question marks appear for an eventual return to the 150p level.
I liked the look of the On The Beach results which looked rather good.
Looks like despite a squeeze peeps really don't want to give up their holidays on the beach the lazy sods but that is good news for this company.
Of course good results see companies go up, then go down again which is the best time to buy.
Marks and Sparks is almost bound to have a good xmas and will be one of the winners of the santa rally assuming we have one.
So I have nipped a few.
Stores seem to be full, clothes are selling and it is putting its tech troubles behind it.
I suspect sooner or later shares will end up back up and over 4 quid and it's a matter of being patient.
A couple of shorts. I shorted Whitbread the hotel and pubs outfit.
Not that it's a bad company but sadly Rachel Reeves is really laying into hospitality badly and business rates are causing problems.
It's very unlikely these problems will resolve in the short term so I have done a quite hefty short here.
I've also shorted Autotrader - its shares seem to be in a real decline.
Its pe looks too high and its yield too low.
Shares show no sign of stopping their decline and so I am in on the short side.
A few profits and losses which are in no particular order.. Some taken to raise cash to play the Santa rally, and a few trailing stops hit.
On the naughty step with losses: Pay, loss £1,284 Ever, loss £189. Tep £192.
Getting stickers for profits are: Tate profit £199, Optima profit £1,977, Mitie £1,230 and Chrt profit £6,116. IG profit £328. Spi £509.
A few comments: Ig reached top of its range.
History repeated itself with Tep and Spi.
Tep slid after results and trading shares got taken out by a TL. It did this last year and previously too. It then starts to rise so not a bad time to get in. It went ex div today.
Of course my main lot I've had for 25 years remain. One day I will find the share certificate but in the meantime the lovely dividends pay for all my bills and holidays every year with more than £500,000 in dividends.
Spire is repeating history with an underwhelming update bolstered by possible takeover. Half got taken out by a TL but half remained which just had a sl. You'd have thought any bidder would want to get stuck in now the price is lower. The property assets are the prize.
Chrt was just a topslice as defence shares have been a bit weak
Elsewhere great report from MHA which gives me plenty of encouragement to stay in.
Same comment for SDI, which looks ripe to get a bid and one of those in the future where you wake up to a nice big rise and with patience it should head back to highs.
Onto the "Santa rally"
It isn't a myth. It generally does happen and usually the last ten trading days of the year and sometimes carries on into January.
How to play it?
Spreadbet is probably best, tax free and low cost for a short time.
Basically you buy the FTSE or Dow or Nasdaq etc.
For example if you bought the FTSE for £5 a point and the FTSE rises 400 pts you win £2,000.
If the converse happens you lose the same amount.
However TN offers a guaranteed stop loss so you could say put in a stop loss where you are guaranteed to say only lose £500 if it doesn't pan out.

Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Spreadbetting
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
