****

Enjoyed meeting some of you online last week.

I was very pleased with this online seminar, we came up with some great ideas, some of which are detailed somewhere below.

There were some great questions and thanks to those of you who told the personal stories of problems and bad deals.

Very helpful for the beginners there.

It's very tiring doing them but worth it for the feedback like Robert who said:

"The best course I have ever been on. Seeing you work through the process was eye opening and amazing."

Just fixed the next date which is June 2nd, if you'd like to book mail me, see above.

Those who've been to a seminar before would you like a follow up/advanced event say in July?

If you might be interested let me know as I'm not sure about the interest in one.

Last chance to get a contribution in to the next podcast.

Don't be shy. Looking for a good joke, so far most of them have been unsayable and would almost certainly get me cancelled.

Also any contribution you like, say your fave share or your worst ever.

What are you up to over this summer - which airline is your fave and which is your worst?

What's your view on King Charlie? What's annoying you generally about the state of things?

How do you see AI going? Is it a pile of pants or is it going to give us a great future?

Send them to me on email or any voicefile or recording system to "podcast contribution" at robbiethetrader@aol.com

Are you all getting ready for your coronation parties?

I'm not into it that much so will be doing other things including a visit to the Comedy Store.

I expect as usual I'll get picked on. They always pick on us bald guys being the last minority you can take the p1ss out of without any problem.

Given we live close to where everything is going on we might head into London at some point and see what's happening.

I was chatting to Vera who I talk to every week on the phone for the charity Help the Aged.

She is 91 and has lots of tales of royalty through the years.

Her accounts of post war Birmingham where she lives are fascinating.

These days all people really have to worry about is when their phone goes missing.

Vera had to worry about bombs dropping on her head.

She also has many stories about working in a famous club. She worked behind the bar.

The usual order was a pint for the man and a babycham for the lady.

The visit she enjoyed most was when the cast of "Crossroads" turned up for a party.

Vera is a big fan of royalty, was worried when the Queen died but is a big fan of Queen Camilla.

A trip into London last weekend shows there is a lot of spending still going on despite the cost of living crisis.

Bars and restaurants were packed with queues outside some of them.

And though prices have gone up, people are paying up.

Good to meet a few of you at the last event.

Thanks for the lovely feedback like this from Chris:

"What a great day! Thanks so much for the effort and time you both put in.

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long.

Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

Too many best bits to mention, but I was impressed that you had read all the questionnaires and had something to say about each one.

Also, I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener.

Thanks Chris, we so enjoyed it.

Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:

"The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

"Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

"Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

"Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "˜Betting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Jamie Oliver is going to open another restaurant chain.

This is despite the fact his last chain left suppliers whistling for £83 million of supplies they never got paid for.

Trouble is these celebrity chefs just stick their name on the door, they really are a con.

Oliver isn't going to be at any of the restaurants making the food. As a chain it will be the same old stuff.

Chances are after an initial bump like the previous one people soon twig they are paying over the odds for poor quality food.

We tried one of them and it was awful.

If I was supplying his new chain it would be cash on delivery only

The one celebrity chef who I think is different is Raymond Blanc - his Brasserie Blanc chain seems to deliver high quality food and great service which is why it is still going.

And it's easy - I am a big fan of his Beef Bourguignon, so never bother looking at the menu, it's a BB every time and it's excellent and good value at under £20.

You like pomp? You like ceremony? Enjoy the weekend! There will be tons of it.

Nothing against King Charlie at all, I personally find P & C boring so I won't be watching it much.

But if there is something this country does well it is P & C. Other countries are jealous of our speciality.

We're a pack animal and throughout history we feel better with someone with a crown on their head.

So enjoy the weekend of it, probably the concerts will be good, and after all we do music the best too.

The weekend should show the UK at is best so hope it all goes well.

For the naysayers Private Eye has a blank front page with "Man with hat sits on chair".

Apparently it is now possible to read people's thoughts using a scanner.

What a disaster for the human race.

After all let's be frank we all lie or white lie daily. If we all had a scanner and knew what the other person was really thinking can you imagine it?

That's the end of most friendships.

Once children have the scanners that's the end of all the lies we tell them from the off.

The tooth fairy, Father Xmas... oh dear. Actually we do tell our kids a lot of lies.

The Diplomat ** Netflix
So annoying. It's like The Americans lite .

Problem is trying to mix comedy with drama. There is no real tension and it's all unbelievable and the plot is so corny.

Shame, as if played as a drama could have been so good.

The Power Amazon ****
Ooooh. Teenage girls get the power to fire electric charges from their fingers.

What could possibly go wrong? A lot!

The premise is a bit silly but it's pretty entertaining.

Malpractice **** ITV
From the makers of Line of Duty so it's very decent.

Instead of "Mother of God, bent coppers" we're after bent doctors.

I'm expecting to see the actors from Line of Duty rush in any minute brandishing guns.

Interesting for me as my doctor father broke all the rules going!

Colin From Accounts **** BBC 2
Seen the whole series now and it ends up as a superior comedy from Aus.

The husband and wife acting and writing team has come up with lots of great
witty lines - it's very moreish and once in their world it's hard not to keep watching.

Might be worth ignoring the toilet humour evident in episode one as the writing and
story gets better and better as it goes on. Go for it!

Big Sam heads off to Leeds for a rescue mission, can they stay up?

Big Sam reckons he's a better manager than Pep or Jurgen Klopp.

And I reckon I'm a better investor than Warren Buffet.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

There are still bank problems rumbling around the US.

I just think it unlikely a UK bank would go bust, it would have to be bailed out.

In any event it looks like all banks will be bailed out or bought up.

Still today in the US another couple of banks are in trouble: Pac West and Western Alliance.

Of course it's only fear. If people stopped panicking and left their money in there isn't a problem.

We all know if everyone tried to withdraw all their money from all banks all banks would be bust and so would we!

(Might be worth tucking away some of that much maligned cash under the bed).

The whole monetary system is a con. We have to play along with it or we will all be fighting each other with sticks and I am crap at that (don't hit me) so let's keep the con going.

Interest rates went up in the USA again last night and another 0.25% is expected for the UK next week.

But experts reckon that's it for rises for a while.

So maybe the markets will stabilise once these smaller banks are bought up.

If you think that's the case it is actually probably a pretty good time to buy shares and I have been a buyer.

After a seminar I always end up finding stuff to get interested in as it forces me to do lots of share screening..

At the seminar lots of great ideas surfaced from the screens, there were many and I haven't got time or energy to share them all, but here are a few I bought, one or two live on the day.

Money Supermarket came up as decent value and maybe a bit of frisson as it's a bid target possible perhaps.

Obvious what it does and it seems to be going rather well.

Possibly helped by people trying to look for cheaper insurance as that's been going up a lot.

If forecast profits for next year are anywhere close then it's good value.

The downside is some debt around but it's not massive.

Shares also seem strong - there are many who might want to take this out and if so probably needs to be around the 350p area.

Spectris came up on quite a few screens at the seminar. I've bought some.

This is quite a big company and there is a chance it could get promoted to the FTSE 100 soon which would give it a big bump.

It's valued about £4 billion, if the price goes up a bit more and it gets to £4.3 - £4.4 bln
then it could get that promo from the FTSE 250.

Fund managers are then forced to buy in. Maybe if not in June, poss September.

Be careful with stops - it goes ex dividend for a massive 51p on May 18th so it will probably open up that day 50p lower. Make sure a stop is well over 50 pts away!

As a high up share it is also very volatile so a stop here is tricky.

I did a lot of reading up on the Government's new bill to try and get people to lose less money gambling.

A lot of it got leaked in the Sunday papers and one bit of the leak stood out to me, that casinos were going to escape very lightly.

I looked around for any listed casinos and came across Rank group.

This one seems the most likely to benefit as casinos have been spared a lot of the pain.

Obviously a little bit on the high risk side, but it seems to be picking up and it has a major online presence too. I've spun the wheel and taken the gamble.

I picked up some small Iomart after it reported. I was in this one many years ago and I noted it used to be rated very highly and now it isn't.

I thought it looked good value for the first time in years.

The report seemed confident, the only thing is it has been rising daily since I bought it and I'm wondering at what point it stops being value.

Still, it is seeing a lot of buyers for the first time in a long time so maybe there is something interesting coming up.

Zotefoams, a chemicals company came up on a few screens at the seminar and
I picked some up.

Profits have stormed up according to the last figures and net debt has fallen from £34m to £28m.

I hadn't bought it when I looked at previously because of the big debt but now it's fallen it's come into my allowed range.

Downside is the spread is quite wide but I did manage to negate that with a DMA buy on the day which meant I bought at the sell price.

If you'd like to find out how to use DMA to beat the spread (sometimes) do join me for a day of live market on June 2nd. Mail for details.

Publisher Pearson got crazily marked down because chatgpt has affected a small exam "cheat" publisher in the US.

I can't really see Pearson getting that affected that much.

I took advantage of the sudden sell off, this time on a spreadbet as I don't intend keeping it as a position long-term.

Begbies which had failed me recently on a trading range idea started a rise and I joined in.

This insolvency practitioner should really have a good year.

It seems to being re-rated at the mo and I wish I had taken a bigger stake as I got a very nice price on DMA beating the spread.

It seems to be doing a lot of small acquisitions - my thought is now to stop tinkering with it and just hold.

I picked up on a very strong level 2 for TT Electronics at the seminar and picked up a few live using DMA getting a nice price.

TTG is quite an interesting under the radar share that just might pick up a bid.

I had looked at it a few times but worried about the debt. But it seems to be dropping and it might be worth a try at this price.

I think that's enough - every extra share I put up here takes a bit of work to remember it's on here and to follow up!

Ok. One more quick one, Mears Group.

Came up on a seminar screen and it is going rather well.

A Mears van also pulled out into the road nearly crashing into me so maybe that's a sign.

I could have made a sign to the driver but I'm a relaxed road user, I think "whatever".

As a people pleaser I also let way too many people into space causing annoyed beeping from those behind me. And probably they shout "Bald c***." But I keep the window shut.

On the same day last week, the market gaveth, then tooketh some away.

I'll start with the tooketh bit. Don't worry, ditching the "eth" thing immediately.

A long-term holding Ibpo which I had considered safe and had paid me tons of cash dividends over 2-3 years including one major payout decided it would de-list. What !!

Yes - it literally said tough sh1t. We decided we don't want you to be able to deal in our shares anymore, you've got a month to p1ss off.

After that, well, you COULD deal in the shares, maybe with a "matched bargain facility".

Fat lot of good that is to us ISA holders as you can't hold unlisted shares, so you're forced to sell.

The thing is this wasn't a high risk silly penny share where you might take the risk of this kind of thing.

It was a company valued at £600m plus. With good rising profits and a big divi. It wasn't considered high risk.

This is pure daylight robbery and shareholders are right to feel as mad as hell.

The problem is one shareholder owned more than 80pc so he can do what he likes.

Quite how he can sleep at night after robbing his shareholders blind is another matter. Bad karma for him.

The biggest lesson from this and something I should have realised is: don't hold shares in a company where one person owns a massive chunk.

I'm going through all my shares to check so it doesn't happen to me again.

For the website that's a loss of £4,205 and personally about double that.

Anyway, you have to move on: there is no point getting any further annoyed about it.

We all got shafted and that's that. I hope the chap that shafted us has a lot of bad dreams and a sh1t time, but my guess is he doesn't care.

Rules need to be changed right away.

The rule should be, if a company decided to de-list, then shares should be immediately suspended and shareholders given cash to the value of the shares at suspension within 6 weeks.

I can't be bothered to fight for this as I'm a lazy bum, but maybe if you know someone who isn't perhaps set up some kind of petition to get this done.

The only positive is I did get a lot of massive dividends including one massive one.

I do wonder if a few brave people buy Ibpo outside an isa they might end up big winners as surely the co is still really still worth 3 quid a share. Good luck if you give that a go, I'm not brave enough to hold an unlisted.

I kind of remember people buying up one that was de-listed a few years ago who managed to sell it for 6x more the year after but I can't remember what that share was.

On a happier note, my patience in holding Sureserve for the bid at last has paid off with a very decent 125p takeout price which seems reasonable.

For the website that's a nice profit of £16,599 and about treble that personally, my largest holding.

Given Sureserve wasn't paying a dividend more than happy with banking the profit as a rival bid doesn't seem likely.

Farewell Sureserve, you took your time but you paid out in the end.

I guess holding this value but very boring share for a long time shows patience with good ones do usually pay out however hard it is not to sell them.

I got a bit bored with OMG taking a loss of £123. It needs to do something with its cash pile.

PZ Cussons trading range paid off and it reached target so I banked profits in this one of £428.

All of which profit and loss taking adds up to a profit of £12,699.

Elsewhere some shares are gaining well in a not so great market.

Tinybuild is going up in tiny steps. Under the radar Iqgeo is also gaining.

The Spire range trade is working out well, just a bit more hopefully before banking.

Ricardo is starting to slowly creep higher, one I never notice then go, hang on it's doing really well.

Wosg reports on the 17th, be interesting to see if people are still into luxury watches.

WTF? Another premium bond win this month! A £100 and two £25's to add to the £5,000 and £75 last month.

I'm seriously in love with premium bonds. Tax free money too. I probably won't win anything now for two years.

Last chance to send me your best joke for my next podcast (£50 prize) or mail me a voicefile. Or any contribution you like, such as your fave share, your worst disaster or any advice you'd like to pass onto newbies. How do you regard AI? Pants or the future? Your fave or worst airline?

with the FT's Money Editor Claer Barratt, a talk with a trading psychology expert, and an AI robot! Plus lots of shares and a chat through some strategies from my new book out next month. It will be on Soundcloud under "Naked Trader" probably in a couple of weeks.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
