*****
A surprise early update! I know it was supposed to be tomorrow but...

I have a tummy bug which is keeping me awake and so I'm very tired and decided to get it done in case I felt too tired and tummy bugged out to do it at all. Off to the doc shortly.

I can hardly believe it's half term again and we're off to Spain..

Seems like a few days ago since we were last there and it's nearly June!!

Has nearly half a year gone by already??? I'm trying to make the most of my days on this earth but time goes by faster and faster and yet I can only seem to do less and less.

Anyway yes we are off on our travels again, our last travels before the big one- our summer long California road trip. Can't wait!

Let's hope for some good weather and some nice relaxation, a 3bank holiday closed markets day will help with that.

We look forwards to some fun and some fresh fish.

When you become an old fart you have to realise you're really not still 18.

A lesson I forgot when I was in the park with Christopher and we were challenged to a game of football by two hulking teenagers.

Both of which I'm pretty certain hang around in hoodies terrifying adults.

"Just us," said one. "Family versus family..." he added scarily.

I wondered what the prize was. The loser gets to drink Powerade and the winner gets to sniff some glue?

I was soon running everywhere trying to defence while Christopher attacked.

And then.. well, I have to say I scored a screamer of a goal.

I didn't tell anyone that it was a complete bit of luck. A teenager was bearing down on me so I kicked the ball hard not knowing where it would go.

As it was it went straight into the corner of their goal. Hey, I was getting some respect.

In the end we lost a respectable 10-8. And we are now friends with the local hoods which may come in handy one day.

The next day I could hardly move. Ached all over, still do. Definitely not 18 anymore. Ya boo, it sucks being old.

Christopher forced me to go and see Fulham play their last game in the Premier League, championship next season.

Still couldn't win even with the pressure off and glad to see the back of football for a while, oh heck, it's the world cup.

Well, at least now we won't have to put up with those premier league prima donnas.

Frankly I think strikers should be paid per goal not given a salary. That means the Fulham strikers would have got the equivalent of FA this year....

Great to meet you all last week at the various seminars...

Yes, I think I made a bit of a mistake with the dates there, I had never intended to do a follow up in the same week as a starter seminar. That's two whole days of talking for hours.

After the Friday one had finished I was so zonked out I went to my room and went straight to sleep not waking till midnight standing up some people I was going to meet for a drink, sorry guys and girls.

Then of course I couldn't get back to sleep, brain buzzing with the aftermath of getting so many questions fired at me. The TA seminar went well do with Susan doing a terrific job.

Thanks so much for all your feedback on the events, glad they were helpful. I guess there is nothing like seeing it live.

I met so many amazing people with an incredible variety of occupations and all your interesting stories.

In particular this time a lot more women than normal, seems to be more and more women are getting interested in trading/investing.

We had a lot of laughs and unearthed some interesting ideas too. I made some live trades and I came away with some decent trading ideas.

Enjoyed all the lunches and the chats.
Thanks a lot for all the feedback from events. Both beginners and near beginners from the standard event and the improvers on the folllow ups.

Some of you told me afterwards you really did decide to sell your crap shares. That is even better news. And great to read how many of you now are aware of how to play supply and demand with level 2 and the tricks I showed you. As you now see, it is very important to understand it before you make a trade.

It's been so rewarding too that I've been getting emails from people saying I changed their lives after they came to a seminar. Many of you have done so well and it's not just about me.. you made the effort and put the work and discipline in to trade properly.
If you missed it, the next one is on July 7th mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com for details with "July seminar interested" in the subject line.

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

Here's some feedback from the last one from "D"

'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.

The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.

This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

**Follow Ups**

Date TBA with me and all day research, timing, direct access and attempts to find new trades etc.

If you have been to a seminar before and would like to follow up with me and live markets all day email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "follow up interested" in the subject line. Then I'll be in touch when a date firms up.

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

NEW DATE: JULY 7TH NEAR HEATHROW
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on JULY 7TH

Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a decent early bookers discount available for those booking nice and early.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling

Off to vote in the Euro elections this week? No, I can't be bothered either after seeing some of the awful party broadcasts.

Fun watching Ed Moribund struggling. Even if you hate the tories it seems they've done a reasonable job of the economy.

And everyone knows Moribund would screw the whole thing up if he got in.

Indeed if a lib-lab coalition gets in, I'm off. I'm going to sell everything and put my feet up.

Nice to have some decent weather but it means older blokes deciding to take off their shirts.

Indeed the Mrs and myself had some amusing moments as we noticed a chap doing some work in his garden but checking himself out in the window reflection.

I guess he thought his reflection showed some amazing adonis the girls really wanted.

Of course the girls walking by just sees a flabby old bloke. Nothing like denial.
Drat! House of Cards is now finished, I do recommend the series on Netflix.

Nice all the way through and a good way to get over Breaking Bad.

Pondering Game of Thrones for the next series to watch because there's not much on TV.

I like 4 Rooms though on Ch 4 Sunday nights, you ought to watch it if you are a trader.

Because you can see how easy it is to get someone to sell something at the wrong price.

The dealers are just the same as market makers in the stock market.

Seeing how they get punters to sell their stuff so low is brilliant.

I'll be watching the repeat of the finale of The Sopranos on Sky Atlantic this week, it was a great finish to an amazing series.

Bearded lady was always going to win the Eurovision so got a lovely spreadbet on it with a nice profit of nearly £500.

In fact the Euro is almost guaranteed money - the top three favs nearly always make it into the top 4.

Talking of bearded ladies, apparently the posh "Gogglebox" show pair raved it up with super "swingers" parties at their mansion. UGH!!!!

Bearded ladies, bearded blokes and bearded bums galore... Dunno about you I would shell out a good sum NOT to be there. One suspects being a guest at one of those parties would be a right pain in the bum.

We all know Brazil are going to win the Cup, aren't we? I'm going to back them on the spreads probably. Brazil at 50 on the spreads (winner gets 100) and perhaps Germany at 40 could be an interesting one...

If you want a spreadbet on any sporting event such as the world cup football
http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader/sports

A really great site for sports spread bets, remember you can back teams to do badly too!

There is some stuff on sport to come under "Sports" button above

Dave writes :
I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.

I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.

Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!
Gary writes :
"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

Markets

Next Update Will Be On June 5

***
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

A reminder next seminar is July 7th, Mail me for details at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "July seminar interested" in the subject line.

I know.. surprise!! An update a day earlier than I thought!! See, sometimes I am efficient, though weird to be writing the update on a Tuesday rather than a Wednesday...!

Well we are into the summer period which is notoriously tricky, as they say, go away in May (which I am about to do!)

Pretty glad I sold part of everything recently as I mentioned last time.

As you know winding down for a summer away in California.

While the FTSE's been doing okay the mid and small caps haven't and I am sure many of you have seen the value of your portfolios fall.

Some of it appears to be due to a mass broker sell with the good sold along with the bad. Usually when this happens the good ones eventually bounce back.

It's always hard seeing some profits eaten away. Even harder to know whether to stick or twist.

I think there is always a sensible half way house which is what I've done which is topslice/sell stuff, go into reasonable cash but keep some of the longer-term good ones.

And maybe try and follow markets down with some shorts keeping tightish stops on them.

Of course there is no right or wrong answers. Dealing with the market is like trying to reason with a pissed alcoholic.

And there is no way anyone can get in at the top and out at the bottom.

I've found over the years while I make good money over time, at some points total values can sink but usually they rise again. It actually often works out holding onto the good one as their values eventually come out.

Anyway I can't advise you but seems reasonable to have at least some cash over the summer and take it easy.

It's not a given the market will fall - who knows? It could equally push on up. So I'll continue to try and gently follow it.

But given I'm away for most of the summer for me personally it's in a lot of cash and what I keep holding to remain defensive.

Right onto some trades. I didn't quite finish last time with all the stuff I'd sold.

Anything that gets bought between now and September HAS to be right and very few are tempting me.

But I was tempted by Hayward Tyler (HAYT) live at the Monday seminar I bought 5,000 at 67.9 and some later in the week at 73.

It's a very interesting one, an engineer with bright prospects. It's been named as one of the 50 recepients of the Government's £300m regional growth fund round so it says it doesn't need to raise any extra money. It's also winning contracts - one at a nuclear plant in Sweden.

It looks reasonably cheap and the recent trading statement was very strong - I wonder if results at the end of June will give it a re-rating up to 100p.

For now a lot of resistance for the price to go above 80 but in the 70s it looks a great tuckaway for an ISA.

I bought some more GVC group (GVC) at 405. A lovely one this with a massive dividend, just got a huge dividend credit on it yesterday. It generates lots of cash, looks ever so cheap up to around 500.

I also topped up on OPG. Already up more than £3,000 on the last buy it looked worth topping up on some more, and it seems like it wants to have a crack at the 100p level at some point soon.

Onto Saga, I'll probably put in for some but they don't look like the most exciting share on the planet.

I guess might be worth a go either as a long-term tuckaway or as short-term quick profit.

I reckon fairer value is nearer the bottom of its suggested range - let's hope they are kind and the price isn't pushed right to the top at 2.5bln. That looks like all the value is squeezed from it, but at 2bln looks good. But we don't know till the day of issue.

I shorted Supergroup (SGP) quite big on a spreadbet as those of you who came to the seminars saw...

It was quite an easy one and I got the bulk of the short on at 1255. Current profits sitting over £3,000. More to come?

Quite an easy idea, it put out a horrible statement then said profits were only going to be around 61m. When I shorted the market cap was nearly a billion which looks way to high, I reckon £700m looks fairer.

Another short made live at a seminar was Just Eat. (JE.).A business that is easily copied it looks way too high at anything over 150 to me. It's already sunk a lot and some more to come I think.

I've been lobbing shorts on the FTSE in the high 6800s.

Let's clear up some more of the sells.

Car said their new tech thing had problems so the shares were marked lower losing me £1,134. Well I did make shedloads on it in the past so it owes me nothing.

Sold half Servelec for a profit of £274 on the last buy. Holding the rest. Ptec and Pets proved dire trades and went at a loss of £348 and £120 respectively.

K3 went at 223.1 for a profit of £702. Sold a touch more kbc for a profit of £500 at 118. Also sold part Avation which went for a profit of £528.

Hangar 8 got tipped in a magazine which sent it zooming up enabling me to exit for a way bigger profit than if it hadn't been tipped of £1,225. If you have a good profit in a share and you find it has soared on a mag or newspaper tip it's always worth banking some of the profits as the share price is up artificially. If it goes up nearly 20% on a tip you're crazy not to sell it!

Profits banked after all that mucking about are £1,452

Highlights

Renew came out with a sparking statement today, they had a very good half year indeed, now have cash too and look to have a brilliant future, what is not to like? It has been a lovely trade and looks well worth holding for a long time to come.

Some of the more recent buys have done very nicely: Powerflute came out with a decent statement this week . Scisys is doing well and put out a very nice statement and appears to be buying back shares.

Gulf Marine looks firm. Accumuli has had a brilliant time, will soon be close to doubling - just a shame I sold half of them a while back but that's the way it goes. Boring Polypipe, well, has been a tad boring so far..

Kentz won another nice order, back a bit on results but will probably power on over the summer.

Long-termer Porvair has fired through the 300p now, what a great one. Another one that put out a very nice statement.

Nichols has started to fizz up and its statement too was bullish for this year and it has a new brand or two. Entertainment One came back a bit but is still a wonderful long-termer, more than four timed on it. I wonder whether it will get bid for for its amazing library at some point.
Telecom Plus has come back quite a lot, not that surprising. It does tend to go skywards then come back to earth then start another charge and it did look pricey a lot higher. Starts to look cheap now unless there is anything lurking in the full-year out tomorrow, Given I bought loads at 100 I'm not unhappy and I suspect my share certs will still be in the drawer in 3 years time.

Seeing Machines is climbing a bit, it probably needs some news to lift it further.

Most of the remaining long-termers have been nicely quiet.

*** Two Newer Spreadfirms I Use

FOR SMALL COMPANIES:

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

http://www.spreadex.com/nakedtrader

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Dillistone so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link

***
TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC

If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.ig.com/nakedtradercfds

Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Capital Spreads offer

Capital Spreads offers a really excellent book on spreadbetting for those who open accounts through the link below. Spreads are very tight and every trade has to have a stop loss which is excellent discipline to have especially for beginners. Execution is really good I find and they also allow shorts on shares it is hard to get shorts on like say Carpetright or facebook.

Telecom Plus Offer

Want to quit the rat race? Try and start a new source of income so one day you can tell the boss to stuff it? You could do what I did to escape my grotty office job and become an independent distributor for the Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me! (Click become a distributor and follow links)

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets
on every other Wednesday afternoon.
