If you buy the print copy you get the e-book free! The book is a total update since the last one which I wrote in 2011.There are tons of ideas, trader stories, psychology, biggest trading mistakes and 20 trading strategies to make money. Also loads of stuff I have learned over the last three years. New insights into trading tax free, tons of examples, a whole load of new traders' tales and some of the trades that have helped to make me well over £2 million tax free.
Enjoyed seeing a few old friends at the follow up seminar on Monday.. including my new number one fan... (right Larissa!?)
Thanks to some of the old hands especially Jeff for helping the beginner traders and your great inputs into the day. I think we discovered one or two nice trades for now and the future... we'll see. If you've been to a seminar before and would like another day with me drop me a line, also if you are interested in a technical analysis seminar, both will be sometime later this year and I can put you on the interested list.
Meanwhile will be seeing some of you on Monday for the last seminar before heading off for the summer. I'll be dropping you all an email tomorrow with latest news on the event - thanks to those of you who sent back answers to my questionare, really useful.
Hope you enjoy yourselves, lots of tea coffee, snacks and even some live waffle making for you throughout the morning to get you going. Should be an interesting day and you get to rifle through all my isa and spreadbet accounts! Be great if we find the odd nice trade or two and looking forwards to teaching you how to time trades as well as finding companies with good potential, I have plenty for us to look at.
Serves me right. Went to a party and was sitting next to a doctor.
Turns out the doctor happened to be at the practice I'm registered with.
"Have you been to see us recently?" asked Doc. "Ha, no," I boasted. "Hardly ever ill, anyway us blokes hardly ever go unless we are at death's door."
I added: "I know the thing to never do is go on the internet to look up anything if you feel sick, as it will always tell you you're about to die!"
"Yes," agreed the doc. "Patients are always coming in now and telling us all about what they have from the internet which has told them they are about to die..."
"Yes, so silly!" I agreed.
One week later... I have picked up a nasty infection. I won't go into what it was as there is such a thing as too much information...
I was out for the count. In bed feeling sorry for myself and a fever to boot.
Then of course I did... I looked up my symptoms on the internet. And of course the internet told me my number was up.
What the internet actually said was: "Treat immediately or fatality could occur".
"Fatality could occur!!!!"
I was off down the doctor's in an instant. When I walked into the doc's office you can guess who it was can't you.
Yes, of course, it had to be.. party doc. Party doc who I'd laughed and joked with. Awkward. She was lovely though and we joked about it.
"After looking at the internet I'm amazed I made it across the road without keeling over..." I said. "Apparently what I have is fatal."
Anyway samples were taken and indeed I had a nasty infection. I was told to take pills and rest for a bit.
I'm not very good at being ill. I lie in bed feeling sorry for myself expecting it to be my last day. The pills made it worse for a while. I had a nasty few days.
I knew emails were piling up.
And it was a busy weekend full of things I'd promised to do, people I was going to see, football to watch, events to attend.
I hate sending out emails saying "too ill to make it." But it had to be done.
Anyway luckily within 3-4 days the pills kicked in and the infection appears to be gone and I am of this world again. If I took ages to answer your mail, sorry.. I think a few got lost along the way too.
It's great to be back in the land of the living and let's hope I don't have to see party doc for a while now...
Indeed it is just as well I am up and running as we have a frantic couple of weeks with the end of term nigh.
Ok, let's see, I'm going to an all day game of cricket tomorrow with lunch and afternoon tea included! I've got a seminar to do on Monday.
Then there's the end of term school barbeque where the kids all get off their faces on sugar. And the end of term parents do.
Then we are also off to Irish night next week at Kempton Park races. Lots of evening races and then an Irish band. There's going to be a lot of extremely inebriated Irish folk around and that's always a good laugh. Just hope we don't lose too much....
There are also lots of end of term sleepovers and.... I'm feeling tired just thinking about it all but life's for living let's live it!!
After that the holidays start in earnest tons lined up, will fill you in next time in my last update before the hols.
If you would like to come to the next seminar..it is this Monday September 28th
Mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Sep seminar interested". First ten to book get a massive discount.
Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks, and even live chocolate waffle making in the teabreak!
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Here's some feedback from from "D"
'It's obvious from his site Robbie Burns is a good market analyst and shrewd stock-picker. He is also a highly opinionated commentator on everything from TV shows to food. Therefore I expected his seminar to be 75% entertainment, 15% general exposition for beginners and-- if we were lucky-- 10% of something I could use to help me invest. But I could not have been more wrong.
The opinions on food and politics etc. though genuine, are I believe a bit of disguise or misdirection for there is a real touch of rebel genius here. And in the seminar, which is 95% hardball, he actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. You can see at once why so many of us are merely stabbing in the dark with our investments.
This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. I have only bought one stock since, as I am waiting for the tools he recommends, but I got the price down by using his tactics and I cannot recommend the seminar too highly if you are going there to learn. It must be taxing on him to let us at such length and in such detail into the process, which has made him so much money (for--unlike so many other so-called experts the seminars are not a day job). My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Spreadbetting firm Capital Spreads offers a great book on how to spreadbet for readers via this link http://www.capitalspreads.com/ntrader
Its spreads are surprisingly tight and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset. A super site for beginners.
I use IG Index for betting on the very small companies, the only spreadbet firm I can find that does the smaller ones making it possible to trade AIM cos tax free.

Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on September 28th
Price is £650 plus vat. However there is a special massive discount offer for first ten to book. Mail for details.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "jUNE seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards!
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
Because what really annoys us flightpath dwellers (which is an awful lot of London) is the flight from Hong Kong that arrives at 4.30am.
That's millions of people disturbed at 4.30am for one flight of maybe 100 people. Now that is crazy.
There are 16 flights allowed to land between 4.30am and 6am. Time these were banned right now. They'll just have to slot in from 6. They've already reduced times between landings so it shouldn't be a problem.
My real worry about a third runway is traffic coming into London. The M4 is already choked up most of the time coming in.
Unless additional roads are built going into town I can't see how anyone is actually going to get to and from the airport without it taking foreever.
Seems to me the sensible move would have been to build a brand new 4 runway airport out to the east where planes land over the sea. No-one disturbed by noise and lots of capacity,
That's it, finished Game of Thrones, had kind of had enough near the end but it was quite fun. I'll miss all that sex and violence..
If you've not seen it worth sticking with it till mid season one as it's hard going to start with.. So back to normal TV and there's not much decent on. First thing we watched after Game of Thrones was Mad Men and frankly it was a bit tame after GOT. No swordplay, killings or anything. Not much at all in fact.
But Netflix have Orange is the New Black back on and that should be good. And we have yet to finish House of Cards, also Netflix.
"Humans" is ok but a tad predicatable and wonder if it's a waste of time.
Well done to the bosses of the Back to The Future originals who are trying to stop a remake. They are classic films that don't need to be re-made. Re-makes are usually rubbish anyway....
The BBC's Wimbledon highlights show is such a hysterical mistake - it's pretty much what W1A could have covered.
Calling the show Wimbledon "2day" Arrghhh! I'm surprised they didn't do WINbledon as beloved by the PR lady on W1A.
Claire Balding is being wildly overused and obviously knows not much about tennis. The "chats" are excruciating - all tennis fans want are to see the highlights, not silly chat.
The BBC surely can't have many years left. Times have changed and you just expect to pay for sports coverage now. I'm not sure anymore what the BBC has to offer that is any different from the commercial sector.
Can Murray win? Just maybe, it depends on how the top two seeds are shaping up. He seems to have fight in him this year - I've had a little bet with spreadex on the spreads - even if he doesn't make it to the final, a spreadbet still gets you out without a loss if he makes the semis and a small loss if he makes the quarters, so not a bad bet.
If he comes second or wins then there is a nice payout.
Good place for spreadbets and fixed odds for tennis/sport is here...

Good quick execution of bets and a great range of markets. Recommended!

I agree with comments about Dr Who and Breaking Bad. I used to enjoy Dr. Who years ago but I think it's worn out, it's all about celebrity now, like everything else on telly.
I recently was enjoying the Sopranos a friend let me borrow (fascinating story lines) and my son Rob in Australia (an irrelevance to you of course), he said if you like Sopranos you'll love Breaking Bad. Wow was he ever right. I got the full set from Amazon (apart from the last season). I'm having to eke it out it's so brilliant I don't want it to end, that's the sad bit. What about the uncle in the desert in the wheelchair with the bell strapped to the arm of the chair, the missus and me just fell about and many more just brilliant set ups dragging out every emotion.
Agree Dave, love Breaking Bad. Only five to go for me and I won't spoil what happens for you except it gets more and more addictive!

"For throwing your heart, soul and energy into one fact-packed, full-on and exhaustingly educational day: FIVE stars with no hesitation!!
Met some really nice people too - like me, nervous that it was the most we'd ever spent on a whole day of anything (had we made arses of ourselves?) But no one felt short-changed, especially when you were still going strong when we all wanted to go to bed! One of your delegates, Susan, back for a second time, said to me unequivocally, "you will go away absolutely inspired." I can't disagree.
Thanks Gary, hope you make some money!

Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.
The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.
I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!
Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!
Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !
Thanks Gabriel!

Fantastic seminar.
I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance
Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!

Markets
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share, or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

I think one way or the other the markets will be happy once Greece is decided on. The uncertainty has been dragging markets down. All that silly politics from the prat in charge for the moment in Greece.
He's so childish but he is playing with his country's financial security. I wonder how many euros are hidden in property all over Greece?
I bet most have a massive stack of cash hidden away. The problems in Greece will never be over unless the people feel secure about their money in the bank. Until then they will continue to withdraw cash and stick it under the bed.
Tax collection has to be sorted out too - there is too much bribery and corruption. I would have thought best would be an all party coalition to try and sort out the mess and have some kind of plan for the future. Let's hope they vote yes on Sunday and get rid of the current child in charge.
Whatever happens over the weekend though I suspect markets will settle down pretty quickly. They seem fairly resigned now to whatever happens.
Spreadbet firms are cleverly doubling margins over the next few days which seems sensible to stop people gambling too much on events.
None of this has any interest to me because in the kind of shares I buy, the short-term politics won't make much difference in the longer-ter, As long as interest rates stay low there is nowhere for the money to go apart from stocks.
However so far anyway despite the market coming off I've come off pretty much unscathed and even had some going up!
It was interesting doing the follow up seminar on Monday when the markets were tanking as it was fun looking for some bargains.
It's easier said then done but it's much better to pick up good shares after they have been marked down for not really much reason except that the market expects lots of sellers.
So I ended up doing quite a few live trades during the day. I'm afraid too many to list here but hopefully those that came could see how to pick them and see how supply and demand could help get the good prices, indeed got many "sell" prices as buy during the day using direct access.
The two I immediately thought were bargains were Easyjet (EZJ) and Dominos (DOM) - both marked down too much I thought. In case they ended up being short-term bounces got both on spreadbets.
Not sure how long I will hang onto either but looking for about 810-20 on Dominos, top of its recent range. Greece has no effect on the amount of expensive cheese and tomato on toast people buy.
Despite Character Group (CCT) already going up a lot I bought some live on Monday. The shares still look very cheap - the company produces toys for most of the well known brands such as Peppa Pig and Doctor Who.
Indeed it seems to have nearly all the most loved characters. It has a strong balance sheet and parents certainly aren't stopping buying toys for their kids. A good Xmas and the shares could be a lot higher.
It was a fairly obvious trade to pick up some more Telecom Plus (TEP) - looks like the recent not so good news is now in the price while the very large 5% plus dividend does not go unnoticed.
It goes ex dividend soon and I'll pick up a substantial amount from that. The company could easily start growing again and the shares now don't take into account any new growth as it's no longer rated as a growth stock.
I've been buying quite a bit of Poundland (PLND) also getting some live at the seminar. It's fallen quite a lot and now looks very good value up to about 350p.
I'm sure you all use the shops too! If they get cleared to buy up the 99p shop chain, the shares could even go to 400p.
I've also topped up yet again on three of my favourites. Topping up on the good ones long-term has made me most of my money.
So bought more Entertainment One (ETO) - a fantastic share which I think has another 100-200p upside this year. In particular its library of shows continues to boom in value.
And also topped up in another of my favourites Pets at Home (PETS). Lovely profits here of more than £20,000 but more to come here. The breakup through 300p looks significant and I now think 350p is achievable.
And final top up is in challenger bank Aldermore (ALD) - already in handsome profit here but more to come and I think this one could easily head up to the 400p mark.
I made more than £25,000 shorting Carpetright (CPR) from 700 to 315 over 2-3 years. Since then the company has got stronger with a turnaround plan.
However it is now on a massive rating at over 600p with, at least short-term all the turnaround so far now in the price. So trying a short here (short means betting in it to go down) targetting a drop to about 550p. A guaranteed stop looks to be worth trying here in case of the outside chance of a bid. I think I would be out fairly quick if there was strength above say 640p but for now buyers seem thin on the ground above the 620 level. It is quite illiquid so it can move fast.
I have made some other trades but going to save those for the seminar on Monday so those of you coming will have first look at those. I'll clear those up here in the next update.
Let me try and continue to clear up some trades I was too sick to go into last time... I sold Immobile for a lovely profit of £1,375. Results were excellent but it's reached the target I'd set and it seemed a good time to exit for now. I'd like to buy back on any weakness though.
scs just didn't seem to be going anywhere and I exited that for a small profit of £242.. Fxtn just kept coming back so it fell to a trailing stop to bank a profit of £358. Shame as at one point had a profit of over a grand.
Hard to know what to do with AGA which is in a bid situation - if the bid goes ahead could be more upside, if it does not, back to a pound so sensible thing I thought was to bank half at just under the 150 area and keep the rest to bank a profit for the site of £2,175 .
That is a total profit banked of £4,150 for the site.
Elsewhere some great gains around the place, we already covered nice gains in Entertainment One, Pets and Aldermore.
Merlin is on the way back after its roller coaster problem .
OPG is on the rise after a decent statement this week. Could be a nice long-term winner. Dignity tries to hit 2200 again showing there is money in death. Vectura has been on an excellent run up and now doubled and a half on my first buy. With patience, I think personally I'm going to make more than £100,000 on it. Recent buy Redcentric reported some nice figures and that one is slowly moving higher. Spire is on the way back up after an early backer sold the last of its shares.
Quartix reported a decent statement, all seems on track with this very well-run company and there looks to be more upside to come in time.
Also reporting this week was the lovely GB Group and rose nicely after results which were excellent. I've made many thousands on GB and been in since 20p. To see it with another nought on the end is sensational. I still think it will end up being bid for. 250p?
Lovely long-termer Porvair reported results this week - another excellent report from this one and I'm staying put! Been in it since 60p and now 320p. Who says long-term investment is a waste of time.
Amino stays higher and Energy Assets carries on moving slowly higher after a recent pullback. Quantum Pharma continues to do well and high risk Xeros is having a good run.

It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

It does spreads on smaller ones other companies don't like Xeros so worth having an account for that, been using it for a while and very happy so far. They also have an Ipad offer at the moment which is on that link.

TIGHTEST SPREAD FOR TRADING THE FTSE/DOW ETC
If you're into trading indices this one is the cheapest with just a 0.8 spread which is fantastic - execution is top too

If you start using them and find any problems please let me know.
I also use IG's spreadbetting service too along with other firms. Great execution of trades and nice trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Also with this link there is an excellent education programme and it offers the biggest range of smaller shares.

As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

Telecom Plus Offer
You get to sell great broadband, phone packages and energy to friends, relatives, contacts and anyone else you find and you get cash for each sale but more importantly you get a cut of their spend EVERY MONTH for as long as they are a customer!
It's called residual income and is a far better way to enjoy a ripe old age than relying on a pension. Because even after you stop selling the money STILL comes in!
I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
