A day of live trading, research, and sorting out problems. If interested
mail me with follow up interested in the subject line.
My new spreadbet book will be published in June. (Discount
code below somewhere!)
Just had a final read of it, it is about to go to the printer.
You try hard for it to be published without a mistake.
There was a mistake in the last edition and every single week someone
points it out.
Yes, so sorry, I am nowhere near perfect...yes,
I have known about this small slip for 8 years but I can't change
it in the copy you bought from the charity bargain bin.
If you find a mistake, assume I know about it by the time you
mail me!
I'm very happy with it, there are tons of real life trading examples
and ideas in it and hope it helps you if you are thinking about
spreadbetting.
Made it back alive from Millwall...
I had a cunning plan: get there a bit late. Worked a treat.
No-one on the train, a nice relaxed walk.
Lucky my son didn't realise we were going to be late till
quite near the ground so I didn't have to put up with too
much moaning.
After a walk down a special walkway just for away fans to
prevent locals from hurling bricks (lovely scent of male
wee wee) we tried to find our "seats".
Locals are too hard to sit as are most away fans so had
to stand.
Fulham played very well in the second half which aggravated the
locals.
Some of them tried throwing coins at one of our
players and the linesman and began ripping up hoardings.
After a 3-0 win our fans were happy, my son had tons of youtube
presentable footage.
I had a massive headache as behind
me three pissed youths spent the whole game shouting many
bad words.
There was an old boy next to me perched on the end of his seat.
He seemed to want a hug when we scored. I guess this is his
community so I obliged despite some noxious smells emanating
from I don't want to know where.
After the game we were held back and we could see police car
flashing lights in the distance.
30 minutes later we began a slow walk down our special walkway now
really smelling of wee.
The walk slowed to a stop. For ages. "We are
arranging a special train for you," came the announcement. Phew.
Meantime the headache got worse as pissed fans continued the tedious
chanting. On and On. And on. This wasn't Britain's Got Talent.
There was some wee weeing going on at the sides of the path. I think it's
a marking territory thing.
At last we managed to get on the "special train". A well managed keep the
fans apart by the police and transport people. Well done.
I breathed a sigh of relief as Millwall disappeared behind us. Hopefully
never again though could we get them in the playoffs?
The journey started at 6pm and we got home at midnight. This meant
the journey to Derby and back was actually faster than what should have been
a 40 min train ride across London.
Still. Son was happy and grateful.
Maybe one day when I'm in a OAP home
staring at the flickering TV screen displaying "Bitcoin In The Attic" I'll remember
it with fondness.
Next up is Sunderland at home. Sunderland fans are lovely people as
met some before. Great fun and brilliant sense of humour.
Then finally it will be a trip to Birmingham. On a Sunday. This will
take flipping ages and probably the whole day.
After that let's hope we get promoted otherwise it's the play offs
and three more games. After all that I don't want to know
anything about football for as long as possible.
Oh hang on it's the world cup next.
Wasn't it great to get a spell of sun and warm weather? People
being nice to each other beer bellies Tried to make the most of
it with a picnic in the park.
Mrs Big Scoop still runs the ice-cream stall. And she still
does big scoops.
Sadly she was off on a break when we got there and we got
served by her boss, Mrs Small Scoop. Drat !
We also did lots of walking about - restaurants and bars don't seem
to be doing very well is the general consensus.
Of course we are now back to our normal crap weather.
When Christopher leaves for weekly boarding school in September
there are going to be quite a few short mini breaks in the sun!
That's after Mrs NT spends the first week he's away crying... I'll
need to keep her busy.
Anyway you can find out what happens to empty nesters here
from September!
Naked Rambling
Your grandma's 92nd birthday is coming up, you have an
unlimited entertainment budget. Oooh who to book?
Mantovani and the music of the mountains? A nice
orchestra?
Nope, one 92-year-old this week was offered Shaggy,
Kylie Minogue and Ed Balls.
However our Queen is really not stupid. On seeing
the entertainment ahead she did what any clever
92-year-old would do.
She "forgot" to put in her hearing aids.
Nicely played Ma'am.
What a lady though. I saw her in action a while back when
I was at the Palace to see my sister get an MBE.
Hard working, dedicated and all there. Simply amazing.
I gather a Royal gave birth this week. I just don't really care
that much about it so I skip the news and paper coverage.
I mean in the end one baby got born, end of?
As to the name surely an opportunity missed to get closer
to some countries we need relationships with.
So surely Vladamir Donald Kim would be a great name?
The robot future is coming! Yes "Alexa" could soon be
following you around the house as a mobile robot.
It wants you to interact with amazon's services. Apparently
the robot is codenamed Vesta. Vesta will assail you with ads.
Bit weird to name it after the classic dried curry boxes. Mmmm,
anyone remember a Vesta meal. Hideous but kinda dreamy too.
I promise I will never ever ever get one of these things. How
lazy do you have to be? But I can now see myself in the OAP
home.
Vesta by my side as I ask it to switch to "Bitcoin
in the attic".
Oh and by the way, Vesta I need a wee wee ! Oops,
too late.
And in other robot news, Amazon has released an Echo for
kids. It will teach kids to say "please" and provides content
for when they say "I'm bored".
It also says it will be a "kid friendly DJ, comedian which
is always getting smarter.
How creepy is that? Let's hope most kids say "It sucks"
and accidentally stamp on the wretched thing.
I know Britain's Got Talent is a manipulative show. But,
it's one of the few shows all the family can watch together.
The disabled comedian was rather moving and some brilliant
lines.
if you don't laugh at the disabled comedian then you are
going to hell..."
Really good for him. Not being able to talk must be
devastating.
While the Vietnamese acrobats were great I do think they
are more like professional circus act. Are acts like that
taking part in the spirit of amateurism the show is
supposed to engender?
Westworld is back. I just don't know whether to carry on
watching it or not. It needs a bit of cutting back. Some of it
is a tad ponderous. Some of the action is great though.
I think they've just tried to be a bit too high and mighty with it
re the meaning of consciousness etc. Just give us some action.
Bernard is really annoying. I wish I could program him to blow himself up.
Billions. Just gets better and better, love everything about the show.
A classic episode taking the p out of robotic trading systems.
Taylor nixed them all. The interviews were hilarious. The fear of
the staff thinking they were going to be replaced by robots.
Once robots do take over markets, get the hell out. Or get
Vesta or Alexa to deal with you.
A sex expert advises women to "hum into the back of
their man's neck". Meant to be erotic.
But surely it's what the woman hums that might make
the difference.
Perhaps one suggestion could be the Dr Hook classic:
When you're in love with a beautfiful woman, it's hard
(you know it's hard, you know it gets so hard).
Or Captain and Tenille:
Do that to me one more time, once is never enough with a man
like you."
Although if the Mrs hums that to me I might have to say
Love to, but I've got a bit of a headache."
SEMINAR NEWS
Next is May 21st near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "May seminar interested". The last three have been sold out well before time so don't leave it too late. There is a large early bird discount.
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:
He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'
When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."
LOTS OF LOVELY DISCOUNTS HERE!!!
My new spreadbet book will be published in June.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

I'm always a bit cautious going into May.
(That's what
her husband Phillip tells me anyhow).
It never generally is a good month for shares, not sure
why, maybe there are too many bank holidays.
The first half is often flat with the second half a faller.
So anything bought in the near future has to have a very
sound reason and either be really looking undervalued
or defensive.
The markets also have had a decent run which makes me
even more cautious.
Of course who knows what the hell they will do. Be
fearful or greedy?
I've placed a FTSE short for the moment though if it headed
back up towards 7500 I would exit for a loss. I would increase
the short slowly should it go down.
I used as it only
has a 0.8 spread which is the cheapest I can find.
The portfolio has had an incredible couple of weeks with some
longer-termers flying up unexpectedly. More in a mo.
I made a decent amount shorting the AA recently. I came out
way too early though!
I'm back in with a short after it rose very strongly. Someone attending
the last seminar said
I bought the AA near the top. Why?
Well, it's the AA!"
While it's all very nice and lovely to be rescued and all, but the debt is
simply enormous. It's billions ! And the debt is set to go higher.
The business model still doesn't look great either. So I think after
its rise it is due to fall again and I'm after a fall back down to the
quid area. As with all shorts if I get it wrong and it rises against me
I just get out quickly and take the small loss.
I've been in Alliance Pharma (APH) for some time. It's one of those
shares no-one notices, it just very gradually rise a half pee there a
penny here.
All the little rises gives me profits for the website now of nearly £20,000
and a lot more personally.
The big money I've made has been mostly patience to hold on to good ones,
sometimes for years and keep adding as they go up.
Anyhow I bought another lot! Recent results looked good. Its net
debt, though high is within my perameters and is coming down despite
£16m spent on acquisitions. Profit is up 28pc and dividend 10pc.
Good performances from its brands and the Sinclair products have
integrated well.
It expects to keep growing organically and with more acquisitions. Looks
well-run. Downside?
Well it is a drugs company which always adds risk. I would
like the end of the story to be a continued slow rise to a quid then someone
to take it out at 150p. That's my plan!
I've also added some more NWF Group. (NWF)
It delivers feed
fuel and food. This cold winter should really help the
next results.
It continues to look cheap which is why I
have added.
It has promised double digit gains and if the
cold weather really helps as it has said, I would hope for a decent
rise well over the 200p mark. It has debt but within my margins and
it is being reduced.
I bought some more K3C on weakness.
It succumbed not surprisingly to some profit taking from 4 quid
to 3 with probably stops being hit making it tumble too much.
It doesn't take much selling pressure to push down a small one
but equally the other way round.
So I
took advantage and picked up a few more. Already in a decent
profit from ones picked up in the 100s. I now hope to hold for
a good while, maybe a year or two and ignore any further volatility.
I've been out and then re-bought Vectura.
It leapt higher far quicker and faster than I could have
imagined and it flew past target. I waited greedily thinking there
was even more to come but then it started to sink so I banked profits.
If I'd sold nearer the highs it would have been a lot more. But
I was happy with part of the ride.
But it did then come down a lot more after a Japanese co said it
wouldn't bid. However, there are lots of companies that could so
I am back in for a potential repeat trade. Just because one company
isn't bidding doesn't mean another won't. So back in Vec, looks like
the 70s shows major support too.
I bought some Science Group (SAG) after its statement a few
days ago. This international consultancy produced profits ahead
of market expectations and net cash of nearly £8m. Valuation
of its property assets sit at over £30m.
There is little short-term downside as the company says it is going
to buy back shares because it is disappointed with the share price
performance.
Shares have topped out at the 230p area previously, I think they
are worth nearer 300p so happy to hold. Probably a push over
230p would look bullish. For now though this one looks undervalued.
I sold a few (about a quarter) of long time hold ETO. I don't think there is anything
wrong with it but the sector is
out of favour. But over time I have doubled and trebled on it so I
have banked a bit of that profit, £7,656. It has been falling so it
seemed reasonable to bank a bit.
Elsewhere great news from AB Dynamics! (ABDP).
Been holding for a while
and topped up. Half year results were excellent, with profits
and dividends well higher.
Testing of driverless cars should really be the next big
thing. I think with patience, this one could be an awful lot higher
as time goes on. A share price that could definitely accelerate. Again
bar a market crash expect to be a patient holder for some time.
Some longer-term holds have really rocketed up.
GB group has stormed higher on great statement. Over all accounts
this one has made me well over £150,000. Website holds show profits
of nearly £70,000.
Iomart is trying to get over 400p. Another lovely long-termer with massive
profits. Avon Rubber has been bouncing up, if it can clear 1350, that
would be bullish. NMC came down after a fund raise but looks like it
is about to head higher.
Redde reported today that things look good. Price gradually is rising.
Sopheon! Goodness me, this one has just been climbing and climbing
and I've now well over doubled in some of the earlier trades. I have
been tempted once or twice to profit take. But I am grimly holding and indeed
even thinking of buying more, a super share.
My biggest holding Safecharge continues a slow march up and looks
like soon to break all time highs. Just a matter of patience here and
hoping for a 400-450 takeout.
Overall very pleased with progress but again I remain cautious
after recent rises and won't hesitate to short the indices again
should a meltdown look likely.
The price of aluminium has dived this week.
Aluminium traders say they have been foiled again.

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
